REVIEWS OF Short N Sweet Bakery & Cafe IN Hawaii

A. E. Haldy

Delicious, with so many excellent local choices, it was hard to choose what to get.

Heather Moore

Just wonderful, if you are looking for something unique and really tasty then this is the place. My husband and I were so impressed that I ordered my birthday cake here. I love that none of her goods are overwhelmingly sweet.

Nalani Phillips

I bought two German Chocolate Brownies. I thought it was great. I guess this situation is "You get what pay for" A little to pricey for me. I would settle for a whole custard pie for the price of the two brownies. Excuse me German Chocolate Brownies. They were very good I must admit. But I prefer more for the buck.

Patrick Kolts

I really liked the coffee here!

Ray Fujimori

Catered to my pastry vices.

Glen Ishii

Great friendly staff. Food is very tasty and always consistent. Not cheap but you get what you pay for which is fresh and quality food.

Kathleen Lisa

We will always stop by when visiting Hilo.

Matt Collum

As far as baked good are concerned this place is excellent. We ordered “one of everything “ and didn’t have a bad item. The key lime pie was the standout for our visit.

Rayne DeReon

They have wonderful homemade desserts, one that I truly love are their lemon clouds, crème brûlée, flavored marshmallows (Coffee, Strawberry, Cookies and cream).

Justin Dritz

Great stop for brunch after the falls. Salad greens amazing and breakfast sandwich as it should be. Impromptu stop that was well worth it!

Ruthie Clearwater

Delicious breakfast bowl and warmed cinnamon bun.

Michael Scott

Excellent sandwiches and bakery goods.

William Sherman

Other than being out of bagels today, this place is usually spot on perfect bagels! Try with Lox! Expensive? YES! But its the real deal!! After a year and a half of frequently eating here I now realize that the poi bagels are much better than the bread-like fluffy bagels they bake.. poi bagel more chewy than their plain bagels...

Kim Miskovetz

Very cute with lots of delicious options, a comfortable amount of seating, and friendly service. The chocolate Nutella mousse cake is to die for.

Short N Sweet Bakery Rocks!

Paul Susmarski

They made a cake to order that was absolutely delicious and they even fulfilled our request to make it less sweet. They also offered breakfasts that I doubt could be anything but amazing

Guy Ambrose

Absolutely a great little breakfast place and has more , very sweet young waitress .

Bryan Nies

My 4 year old wanted cupcakes in Hawaii, and these were great.

Eggs Benedict ($10.95, available on Sundays for brunch) starts with a house-made English muffin topped with Canadian bacon, poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, and served with breakfast potatoes and fresh papaya. This was the first time I ever had a house-made English muffin and absolutely loved it. It was thick and held up well to the runny yolk and hollandaise. The poached eggs were perfect with yolk flowing like lava. The hollandaise was silky like it should be and very light on the lemon juice just how I like it. The breakfast potatoes were much different than what I see on the mainland which are usually underdone/overdone and bland, but these potatoes had a baked potato flavor with a smashed potato texture and simple seasoning. Rating: 5/5 Herb Roasted Chicken Panini Sandwich ($9.75) is made with thinly sliced herb roasted chicken, house-made basil pesto, mozzarella cheese, roasted red bell peppers, and organic local greens atop house-made focaccia bread. This was a beautiful panini with grill lines from the press, contrasting colors from the bread, and the green from the pesto and greens. It was a refreshing sandwich right down to the fresh local produce. The pesto was just strong enough in flavor yet lets the herb roasted chicken shine through. The focaccia bread had a perfectly formed crust on the outside yet is spongy on the inside. Rating: 5/5 Portuguese Sweet Bread ($6) gave my mom the chills when she tried it. It took her back to her childhood when her mom brought back sweet bread from Buck’s Bakery in Honolulu. This was a bread that was sold as a fundraiser and folks would rapidly buy them up. It had a different look and taste from King’s Hawaiian, yellow interior probably from more yolks and a spice that gave it a special flavor and aroma. Maria did a lot of research on old Portuguese sweet breads and came up with a recipe that is so onolicious. It had a beautiful golden-brown exterior with light yellow, fluffy interior. Next time, I’m going to buy a bunch of these so I can take them home with me. Rating: 5/5 Lilikoi Bar ($3.25) reminded me of a lemon bar, sweet and tart, but with a lilikoi (passion fruit) curd on top. It was just so Hawaii and so ono! Rating: 5/5 Kohala Crunch Bar ($4.95) is a creative dessert combining chocolate mousse and candy bar into one. It had sweet, rich, chocolate flavor and a nice contrast of silky mousse on top and crispy, candy-like texture on the bottom. Perfect for the chocoholic! Rating: 5/5 Hilo Bar ($2.75) is another creative dessert combining oatmeal cookie crust with chess pie like filling with macadamia nuts. It tasted like something your grandma would make. So good! Rating: 5/5

Stephen Hoffmann

The breakfast bowl is one of my favorite ways to start the day

Jen H

Very tasty food! We had a cinnamon roll which was excellent and the breakfast bagel which was also very good. It came with a pickle? There is indoor and outdoor seating. No onsite bathroom, but there's a park across the street with public restrooms.

Ronn Walker

Staff inconsiderate, refused a cake order.

jim Barry

This is the place for your Lilikoi fix! They routinely have cheesecake & bars. I got a custom order chiffon pie with one day notice. Ono!

Trevor Kiesau

Not bad!

Denver Collingwood

Always has good food and treats. When busy a small wait.

Matt Cooper

Indulgences galore, but also healthy options. Eggs Benedict, breakfast bowl, special of the day, lilikoi cheesecake, all great.

This place is the real deal bomb of a bakery for sweets. We have been loving them since the Hawi days and will organize a trip to Hilo side just to stock up on everything they got. This place is awesome. Go grab a lilikoi bar...

Harmony FY

Jonathan Rundle

Came in for breakfast one morning and found this place to be full of charm. Wife had the mocha, I had their lemonade. We also ordered their breakfast sandwich on a croissant, which is not going to go down in the annals of history as an incredible sandwich, but it was tasty and filled our bellies till lunch. Plenty of goodies here for the tasting, I kind of regret not buying some of their homemade marshmallows to take with me.

Donald MacNaughton

They have a pretty nice selection of baked goods and sandwich salad Pretty good food

Riley Sohriakoff

Just went here for the first time yesterday, we came back today because the treats were so yummy. I’m making it a point to try one of everything because it all looks so good.

Kevin Crosby

Very nice little cafe! We enjoyed very good sandwiches at lunch and left with a loaf of bread which was also great. The wait for our lunch was a little long considering they didn't seem to be busy, but it was worth it.

Melina W

Amazingly delicious.

Karina Malgue

Eco friendly place! And everything taste good!!

A Gator

Nice little dessert shop, great place for a morning pastry. Friendly staff. Reminds me of the dessert bakeries in New England and Europe. I tried the cupcake and the cream cake roll. Both are very good and sweet enough but not overwhelming sweet. Foreign people who are used to less sweet deserts should like this. It's not quite the same quality as what I had back east but for the island setting it's a five star fix.

Amy Dritz

Super fresh and delicious mixed green salad. Great panini and bakery sweets.

Ben Kirk

Great coffee, cheerful staff, delicious treats.

Amber Goelst

Flipping RAD LITTLE BAKERY! We were lucky enough to be there on Sunday, which afforded us the only on Sunday amazing sweet bread French toast. We followed that up with a grilled PB&J, a light and fluffy not-too-cream-cheesy iced cinnamon roll, and a latte. Everything was AWESOME! If there’s anything for constructive criticism it was the latte was a little watery, but we’re from Oregon where espresso is god so that could just be regional. Later on we’ve got a homemade Oreo that is sure to be killer. If you come here, don’t miss the grilled PBJ!! *please pardon the photos, everything was taken mid-meal when we’d realized we we’re so stoked we were destroying our food

Claudia Hagan

Fresh and delicious

Jim Manion

Great Breakfast bowl.

Leif Erickson

A Quiet Day. An Amazing Taste.

Cheryl M. Collamore

Food was good, service was good and the bread was awesome!

Terrie Oliveira

Beautiful love the bright colors of your macaroons

Michael Vollero

Loved the cookies and pastries. Reasonable prices.

Rick Dorbolo

Double chocolate truffle cookie!

Cassie R.

Compared with other bakeries the food here was just okay and it took a while for anyone to greet us when we arrived.

Sergey Lutsenko

Considering most of restaurants in Hilo look like dumpsters - this place stands out. They produced edible sandwiches.

Robert Bauer

Excellent spot for a quick breakfast. Baked goods are amazing!

Wrena Wild

I did not purchase any items. We walked out after waiting for 15 mins behind one person. The cashier was a brainless blonde with henna on her face. She wasn't Hindu, why doesn't she celebrate her own culture, instead of appropriating others? We won't be going back until that idiot is gone. You can find that level of food/pastries at a Starbucks in a Target, and it's much faster and cheaper. Its small size and wide doors suck in the heat from the sweltering parking lot from where it sits. Don't go.

Faith Parry

Fabulous sandwiches and amazing desserts! The girl at the counter was fabulous! I would definitely eat here again! Lovely indoor and outdoor seating! We got a cake for a party tomorrow! Can't wait to try it!

Kyle Greenville

This bakery provided banana bread for the breakfast at our hotel and we loved it so much we decided to have lunch here. The sandwiches and bagels were fresh and good. All of their desserts looked awesome, but we didn't try them.

Michael Stevens

Great treats and yummy lunches . Closes around 4:30

Joseph Manlolo

Nice specialty dessert shoppe tucked away downtown. Lot of delicious treats to choose from. They have their own special take on marshmallows.

Lan Au

Edible art....enviro..conscious

Kendrick Davis

We think the best thing they have are the home made favored marshmallows. Flavors like Lilikoi, Coconut, Kona coffee, Cookies and Cream, Tahitian Vanilla. They do have somuch more than that including sandwiches.

Nicolas Sotgui

It took 20 minutes to get a cappuccino. When I finally got it, it was filled at a third (I ordered a large one...). I feel like I got ripped off for the price...

Niki Richardson

Really great! So many homemade things and when the cappuccino machine wasn’t working the staff went out of their way to make our visit pleasant.

David Shaw

Very cute spot for casual breakfast and brunch

T H

There BLT w/ avocado panini was very good and just right for a light lunch. Satisfied hunger instantly! And you can request to have it toasted too!

Douglas Smithman

Cute little bakery but nothing special.

Jerry Ashwell

Not to sure about this place

Ej Cooper

Rebekah Zornes

Kim Magnuson

Good bakery. Yummy.

Nohealani Nebeker

Awesome service. So much aloha. I had a panini, the bread was fresh and amazing. I also had a salad that was local and super fresh. Good parking and good coffee, too. I took a box of brownies to go. They smell delicious. I would highly reccomend stopping here for a quick lunch or sweet treat.

Antonio Carranza

This was a very nice place to start the day. Interesting pastries, great tasting food, and smiling workers really make this a top notch place!

Chris Cholas

Very nice place, but does not have a designated parking space for someone with a disability. Could fairly easily be done. The coffee and bakery offerings are very good and service is friendly

Darlene Rose

If you love French pastries...this is an OMG spot to go to savor the flavors of old French pastries this Short N Sweet Bakery can deliver....definitely worth your time and $.

Jessica F

Amazing desserts, very flavorful! I ate the banana roulade, hilo bar, and oreo cookie, and they all were so good. Sandwhiches are tasty. Absolutely love there toasted focaccia bread. Cute place and very friendly staff. Only downside is I notice there's always a fly flying around the dessert shelf, and there mocha was expensive for so little. But j would for sure stop there again to eat

Jason Nisly

Great local bakery with breakfast, lunch, and baked treats! Hospitality was great too!

Whitney Aragaki

Always great desserts and the sandwiches hit the spot. Fast and friendly service, and so easy to stop in on a quick lunch break.

John Carroll

Lovely little bakery spot with local favorites and delicious classics. Some of the better baked goods on the island. And all reasonably priced

Alyssa Hopkins

A lovely bakery and cafe. The food is always fresh and delicious. The likoli bars are a yummy tropical treat if you’re looking for something new and the sweet rolls make a delectable snack.

Gregory Von Dare

Quiet and comfortable, this small cafe offers delicious bakery items as well as a very good menu of breakfast and lunch meals. There's also a shaded lanai where you can relax and enjoy your food, as well as a big, colorful mural on a facing wall. When we asked if they served a loco moco, they said no, but immediately offered directions to a place where we could get one. That's the aloha spirit in action. We stayed at the Short N Sweet and had the pulled pork BBQ panini sandwich and it was tasty-- as only Hawaiian pork can be. If you're in Hilo, check it out.

bluehawk 46

We enjoyed the Breakfast sandwiches we had they even brought them out to our table. Suggestion try going midmorning when it's a little more quieted down.

Barbara Fassio

Wonderful food. A nice treat.

Andrea Kuzmiski

Delicious, unique sweets and coffee.

Jerez Tehero

Great Service! Girl in the front was very upbeat and helpful:) The desserts are amazing!

Megan Coburn

We came into Short N Sweet for breakfast. Not too many Hilo restaurants are open at 7 in the morning, which seems to be when us mainlanders are guaranteed to wake up due to the time-shift. Short N Sweet had delicious and hearty breakfast offerings, without everything being fried or drenched in sugar. The coffee was delicious and the breakfast-specials were exactly what I was looking for. They have the chocolate-filled cream puffs, liliko'i bars, and guava cheesecake to name a few! #letsguide #eatlocal #oneaccessiblity note: This was one of only a few restaurants in Hilo where I could confidently say that a person in a wheelchair could easily navigate the entire facility.

Karen Boswell

Little chocolate cheesecake (like a little tart) was very good.

Chrissy Barrozo

Yum!!!

Rick Hopkins

Maybe the best iced tea I've had on the island. Breakfast panini was delicious.

Kehau Kalauli

We waited while cashier counted her till. Seemed a little long to keep customers waiting all the while another employee (I'm assuming she was an employee because she was walking freely behind the register counter) walked around gathering some items. Finally, cashier finished counting her cash drawer, helped a delivery gentleman and took our order. Phew! Wasn't a good first impression! BUT the creme brulee definitely made up for everything. I've never eaten creme brulee in my fifty years and I'm not a dessert person. But if there is any creme brulee dessert in heaven - it's definitely being catered by Short & Sweet bakery. Mahalo for the delicious deserts. It was well worth the wait in the end!

Margaret Brunner

Wonerful food! Wonderful spirit!

Emily Ford

This bakery is something special! The food is great, especially the breakfast options. A bit on the pricey side, but well worth a visit.

Texas Steve S.

Mmmm ....panini and coffee combo!

Dale Davidson

I did not purchase any items. The people were friendly and the selections looked fantastic. Those with me said that the items they ate were very good.

Chris Stanley

Nothing to say but, Fantastic. A must stop.

Jackie Jones

We got our wedding cake here 3 years ago and it was the best!! Came back this year and stopped by for some sweet treats.

Nura Renke

Super delicious breakfast!

Sarah Moore

One of our favorite places in Hilo! The breakfast sandwich on Foccacia is amazing and same with the orzo salad! We have been impressed with everything we have ordered here! 5 stars!

Brooke Holderbaum

Rabbitt Miyashiro

EVERYTHING is delicious!! I want these people to cater my whole life hahaha!

Corina B.

delicious food and friendly staff!

Adam Kniffen

Delicious! Had the banana cream pie and a German chocolate cupcake and they were magnificent.

DMXRACR

Prices are on the high side. Large ceasar salad, BLTA sandwich, Turkey sandwich, and a soup, and one soda $45.00. The food is amazing though and the staff is great. There is a heritage to this place that you have to see.

Maribeth Pili

Everything is yummy here!!!!

Jerome Saucier

The food and sweet treats are the best! The designer cakes will blow your mind! The staff is great and the owner's, Dien and Maria are wonderful. I highly recommend a visit to this great establishment.

TryBeing Gr8

Their Chocolate Nutella Mousse is soo good. I also love their Lilikoi cheesecake and bars. Definitely a great place to go for a delicious treat.

Tom Cumming

I'm a regular for lunch. I love their BLTA!

Lidia Saranina

Service really depends on who is working at the moment. Sandwiches are really good, coffee is decent (better than a lot of other places we tried on big island), cakes and sweets are goooood. Pog cake is nice, frosting is a little bit on the fatty side though, the cake itself is dry and not moist (but never promised me that). Good place for breakfast or lunch to go.

Adan Gonzalez

Great cup of coffee

Kathy Miller

GREAT croissants!!!! We had some hot from the oven and, heaven on earth. A great place for breakfast or lunch or a sweet snack. Parking in front, indoor or outdoor seating. Perfect,

Larissa Kama

Great desserts!
