I am new to the area and did a bunch of searching for bakeries near me. Sugar Benders kept coming up so I thought I would give them a try. I walked in and was immediately greeted by Veronica, the owner. I didn't have an appt, but she listened to my requests and helped me pick the perfect size and decorations for my cake. I left feeling confident in my decisions and excited for what the finished product would be. I will update my post once I've tried the cake and let you guys know how it turned out. Update: we ordered a berry almond cake, with raspberry curd filling and buttercream icing. When I picked it up, it looked exactly like the picture I had provided. I was super excited to take it to our event and taste it! We got so many compliments on the look from family and strangers! Right before the cake was to be cut the centerpiece on top did fall over and the dowel was the only thing left. I didn't let it upset me because I knew we were about to cut into it. I have never had more people tell me it was their favorite cake ever. It was delicious! The servers even asked if they could try some! Even after a full lunch with ice cream we had almost the entire cake gone. The most depressing part was that there wasn't much leftovers:) I would watch the temperature of the room very carefully. We had a large centerpiece on the top and the room was air conditioned and the piece still toppled over. They told me to take it out of the refrigerator an hr/hr and a half before the event and that's what we did. Even after all of that, I will keep my 5 stars because the cake was a beautiful and delicious! Thank you.

Ordered a Rubix Cube cake for my nieces birthday - with short notice at that -end result was perfect and the staff was accommodating and happy to help meet the deadline. My niece was thrilled and the cake was a hit! Not to mention absolutely delicious! Highly recommend!

Honestly I don’t know where to start. I made an order for my mothers 50th birthday and we gave detailed information and the cake was horrible we wanted 3 single foot prints (one for each kid) and they look like Fred Flintstone feet instead of a baby’s foot. This cake would have been to embarrassing to give to anyone. Nothing was what I asked for. The happy birthday sign was placed at the bottom of the cake instead of the top. The Owner Veronica never got back in contact with us nor did anyone apologize.

This has to be the most unprofessional bakery I've ever came across. They most definitely need to work on customer service etiquette. My friend told me she paid upfront for her cake and didn't receive it. Not only did she not receive her cake on time, but she was also told she wasn't getting her money back, especially since they failed to have the cake delivered on my nephews birthday. Don't know what the circumstances were, but I won't be coming here. My birthday is coming up and I'll be going elsewhere. Being that I always go to Piece A Cake, I should've just referred her there instead of trying somewhere new. I told her don't go where she isn't familiar

We have fallen in love with Sugar Benders Bakery! We've ordered three birthday cakes from them for our two young boys. They have always looked great and tasted amazing! The first time I ordered from them, I asked them to suggest a flavor, and they suggested pistachio with pastry cream filling. It was a huge hit at our party, and we've ordered it ever since! I ordered German chocolate bday cake and although it looked very nice it tasted terrible! Chocolate cake was dry and not German chocolate at all, tasted like made of old box mix, and coconut layer paper thin, It was my father's in law 70th birthday.. What a disappointment!!

Veronica took the time to meet with me, and to understand exactly what I wanted, then she custom designed it to perfection. One of her specialties is a lemon curd cake and it was very delicious. Veronica worked with me both times on adjusting design to fit my budget... cakes are not inexpensive but you get what you pay for and everyone went bananas over the first cake, including "non-cake" people. Their pastries and meals are very creative and of the highest quality. If you didn't know they served lunch, go check them out. If you need a cake, it's the best place in East Cobb to get one. My daughter was giving her best friend a baby shower. She lives out of town, so I recommended Sugar Benders since it was close. She called and made the arrangements, including payment, specifying the colors and borders to be used. She was told that "they do this all the time and they'd make it 'Martha Stewart' pretty." My husband picked up the cake the night before - it was awful!. The cake had a monogram, but no other decoration. We called and said we were bringing it back the next morning at 9 am (shower was at 10:30) and someone had better be there to fix it. Owner was not there, came in 20 minutes later. She said the decorator didn't know what she was supposed to do, and had left early. She stuck some flowers on it and I had to go. Said she had tried to call us (not true - cell phones don't lie). No apologies, no offer of refund. Oh, and the cake was STALE! Not good at all. She mentioned she had studied with the chef who did Princess Diana's wedding cake, who told her how to fix mistakes. Is that what she learned?! Apparently she didn't learn her lesson. I did, though. Never go here again!

The owner of Sugar Benders Bakery was very unprofessional, The cake that I wanted made for my mother’s 50th birthday had a beautiful concept & vision. However Veronica (owner) turned that vision into a nightmare, this situation brought tears to my wife eyes due to her being so upset. Veronica is a horrible unprofessional, uncaring & lacking all basic customer service skills of a business owner. We sent a picture of the cake to my step dad & and he showed it to one of his coworkers, we asked for there honest opinion both said that it was an ugly cake. Furthermore both of my brothers said that it’s was an ugly cake. This place is a fraud, it’s like someone hustling you out of your money on the streets.. DO NOT GO TO SUGAR BENDERS BAKERY.. Beware of this company. From all Yelp, TripAdvisor and other reputable online review websites you can see how people feel about their experience. I made a stupid mistake by just randomly calling and asking for help for a cake order that I want to place for my baby shower - my bad for not reading any reviews. Veronica who I believe the business owner took my phone, we discussed the design of the cake I want. She sent me a text message from a cell number, I said I am interested and this design may work. Then she told me to pay a 50% deposit to hold my place and I can cancel until the end of the day. At this point, she did not direct me to her website or discuss any cancellation policies. She just said "call until the end of the business to cancel, no problem." I called the business at 4:08pm to cancel nobody picked up - I got the voicemail that states their business hours are between 7:30am till 5pm. I called a few more times, no answer. At this point, I also checked their website which also states that the business hours are between 7:30am to 5pm. Then I immediately called the cell number that I received the image of a cake design. A female employee answers and says the business is closed for the day, she is home and she cannot do anything about it, I need to speak to Veronica. So not knowing what else to do I emailed Veronica at 4:21pm. At this point I am still 5 days away from the delivery date that we discussed. The next day Veronica emails me saying, it is too late to cancel because I called after business hours which is not true as it can be seen in the attached images so she cannot refund the full amount to me and I should have read their policies on their website. Unfortunate on Veronica's side, Veronica did not direct me to the policies on her website or volunteer any information about cancellation policies while on the phone with me. She assured me that cancellation is no issue. After further communications with her and understanding how Sugar Bender Bakery business is run, now I personally believe she purposefully did not inform me of her policies or she did not direct me to her website before taking a deposit from me. Any good, ethical company would inform you before doing that. Instead she immediately proceeded with asking my credit card information to hold my place. After back and forth for 3 days, she emails me this note: "Your deposit was $75.00, due to cancellation 50% of your deposit is forfeited($37.50) as well as a $25 consultation fee, that puts you at $62.50, so $75 minus $62.50 would give you a $12.50 refund." The charge on my credit card is $79.50 not $75. Her website states "Cancelled more than 4 days scheduled before pickup/delivery - $25 fee, Cancelled 4 or 3 days days before scheduled pickup/delivery - 50% of your deposit". Due to her irresponsibility for not getting back to me and closing her business early that day, she is now charging me not only the $25.00 but also another 50%. What can I say, my first big mistake is not reading reviews for this company before I called. My second mistake is just taking her word on being able to cancel the order by end of the day. My final comments are, please please please talk to other bakeries in the area before giving your credit card information to this company. You will quickly realize that others have a more upfront, honest approach as they are consulting you and they are much more open and clear about what it means to pay a deposit and what cancellation looks like (as opposed to Veronica just saying oh yeah call by the end of the day and you can cancel). Do your homework, read reviews, understand this business. Other bakeries that I called mentioned they have heard similar complaints from other clients. AGAIN BEWARE of this company.

This place is AMAZING! I was in a crunch to get a custom cake made for my girlfriend's graduation. Not only were they willing to take on the challenge but the cake designer was incredibly easy to work with. A simple set of ideas and the cake turned out even better than I could have ever imagined. Everyone loved it and it tasted even better than it looked! Definitely will never go anywhere else to have a cake made. Way to go!!

I reached out to this place literally a week before my fiancées birthday. I have ZERO creativity so all I had was a few clues for them to go on. I ordered the cake and then read the reviews. I will be very transparent and say that I was expecting a catastrophe, but when I went to pick up the cake I was BLOWN away. Now I ordered from this place last year in April and I will be doing so again this year for my fiancées 40th birthday. I was very pleased with the customer service I received as well as the accommodations for me being able to pick the cake up and having it be perfect on such short notice. Oh and the flavor was AMAZING!!!

This bakery is owned by Veronica she has horrible customer service and is very rude. My husband and I placed a order and spoke to Veronica about the details and designs we wanted on our cake. She gave us a hard time about putting the wedding rings on the cake which was a big asset to the theme of the party and the cake. When we picked up the cake nothing was what we asked for. Later we found out her birthday weekend was this weekend and she was preparing her cake for her party . She was not focused on making our cake beautiful instead she was focused on her own . The cake was horrible as if she just threw it together . I want you to be aware of this bakery and the horrible customer service skills . She is only for profit . Not to actually make her customers happy. Janice (an hourly employee) was there when we were going to pick up the cake . She couldn’t get in contact with the store owner (Veronica ) or the assistant manager.... finally after waiting for 2 hours she (Janice) gets on the phone with (John) who is suppose to be owner of the cafe , tells her to refund our money back due to the displeasure of the cake. We never received our money back. This place is a fraud. Veronica later contacts me 3 hours later. Telling me we will not receive our money back. This was a horrible experience for us .

I purchased a custom cake for my wife's birthday from Sugarbenders. Although I was impressed by this bakery's portfolio of work on their website, I was extremely disappointed with the product we received. The cake itself was lopsided had the consistency of cornbread. Dry, dense, and almost tasted old. The decorations were completely lackluster considering the simplicity of the overall design. Taking into account how much I paid for the cake ($200), I had expected so much more. Sure...when I picked the cake up on the day of my event I was asked by the staff if the cake was ok, but at that point what should a person say? No, I need an entire cake remade immediately??

As our bakery has closed, we wanted to try a new place. We were not disappointed. I sent photos to Veronica of what my daughter wanted her cake to look like. She quoted me a price, which was a little out of budget, but she gave me options. The cake was stunning, my daughter said it was much better than what she imagined. I was happier with the price and the guests raved about how delicious it was. That's all that matters! I had it the next day, and it was still moist and yummy! Thanks Veronica, we will be back!

My daughter is quite creative and imaginative and she had a very specific idea of a tropical themed birthday cake she wanted. Veronica was able to make that vision come to be! She was able to incorporate a palm tree and sea shells into the design while still making it look elegant. Super easy to work with and the cake was even finished earlier than promised - tasted great too!

My wife had stumbled upon this bakery while seeking out someone to make a custom order fondant cake for her mother's birthday. Her mother is a retired high school history teacher and as such, this established the theme. My wife showed her a variety of photos and a list of details about the cake. The owner requested the photos be provided to her. My wife obliged and also reiterated the list of details in an email. 1) The cake's base was to be two textbooks. This was about the only thing that the bakery got right. 2) The desk was supposed to be made to look solid - as in a wood desk. Not a slab on top of four skinny posts. The pictures provided clearly show this. The desk is almost as tall as the teacher figure. The globe on the desk was not in a mount. Simply a ball made to resemble a globe was plopped onto the table...hard to call it a desk. The picture provided clearly shows the globe with a mount. So, we knew it was possible, assuming the proprietor had the skill and/or desire to do so. 3) The teacher figure: Nowhere close to the size and style that was requested (it was supposed to be bigger). More specifically, my wife had requested that glasses on a rope chain were to be a part of the figure. When we picked the cake up, the owner had indicated she could not make the glasses...well, that was one of several things she couldn't do as it turns out. This was a rather important detail since the glasses were a signature implement for Mrs. Johnson. 4) ABC 123? She was a history high school teacher, not an elementary school teacher. No text was requested for the top of the cake. At the very least, the owner should have called before applying this misappropriated detail. At least my wife would have had the opportunity to suggest something more appropriate. 5) The figure was supposed to be holding a piece of chalk and AT THE BOARD. Not standing in the middle with her hands clasped. A piece of chalk on the chalkboard was also requested. And to top off the chalkboard mishaps, it can clearly be seen that she originally was writing out Betty's name with an "i". That's rather poor to leave evidence of a typo. This all brings me to the most salient point about all of this. The bakery itself is charming with a nice setting and a good assortment of cafe style food and a decent variety of confectionary sweets and desserts. The owner should stick to that. (Even though she only had one croissant when we had asked for two croissant sandwiches to go. It was approximately 11:00 on a Sunday morning and she doesn't have the vital component to the top menu item?) All things being said, it's clear that she does not have the skillset or an honest understanding of her capabilities. As the reviews can attest, she has a pattern of profoundly missing key points of what customers are asking for. Worse than that, no attempts to make things right with the customer. I see a pattern of almost flippant excuses and odd explanations for why she couldn't deliver. When my wife discussed her vision of the cake, and showed her the pictures, the owner should have told her that she wouldn't be able to execute. The owner needs to realize that in almost every circumstance, these cakes are literally the centerpiece of the celebration and figuratively, profoundly sentimental. In our case, likely the last birthday for my mother-in-law to experience with any semblance of lucidity due to the progression of her dementia. A last hurrah, if you will, to celebrate what she was known for, being a high school history teacher. So yes, we are profoundly disappointed and I am even more disappointed for my wife who has been tirelessly looking after her mom for several years now and wanted this birthday to be special. That's why you spend $250+ on a cake. There are expectations that go with that. There were assurances by the owner those expectations would be met. The owner fell far short of these expectations and in such a way she had to have known she couldn't have met them. To cite a common internet meme as of late: #cakefail

Thee absolute worst bakery EVER. I ordered a cake for my husband's surprise birthday party 2 months in advance and paid in full when I ordered it. The cake looked terrible, as if it were done in the dark and rushed; the cake did not taste good; the cigar looked like you-know-what. To top it off, I asked for a partial refund me they gave me $20 back. The cake ended up in the trash. DO NOT ALLOW THESE PEOPLE TO BAKE ANYTHING FOR YOU, A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY.

We had a terrible experience with Sugar Benders. They were supposed to deliver a grooms cake for my brothers wedding. My mother paid half for a deposit and spoke to Veronica multiple times and she said they would deliver to the Atlanta Country Club. My brother was very disappointed that we didn’t get the cake. We will never use again. Stay away. This is a horrible company. We are expecting our money back.

Back in October of 2016, I picked up a cake for my baby shower. The cake was BEAUTIFUL !!!! It was shaped like the letter "A" with a cute pair of baby booties on top :) I received SO many complaints not just about the looks but the cake being extremely moist. I would definitely recommend.

This hidden gem is in the Paper Mill Village. The specialty is pastries, but their croissants are top notch as well; and, if you happen to stop by around lunch time, they make the best chicken salad I've had. They have a small seating area outside near the pond for morning coffee. Prices are just a little high, but that's to be expected in the area.

The worst experience, if I could give 0 stars I would. Did not deliver what we requested at all. When we followed up about the pattern not being what we requested, the cake being crooked, the delivery being off...the best they said they could do was offer a gift certificate not a refund because they didn't see anything wrong with what they delivered. Why would we use you again when this is what you delivered the first time around?! Customer service is a foreign concept to this bakery and I wouldn't recommend spending your money with such an inexperienced, unaccommodating bakery!

I had Sugar Benders make the cakes for our wedding. I wanted the bakery to have some creative control over the presentation. In regards to flavor and texture, I had difficulty describing what I was looking for but they were patient and worked closely with me to get it just right. It's been a while since I thought to leave this review, but I can say that, till today, one of the biggest talking points of the wedding celebration was the cakes. Considering renewing our vows annually as an excuse to have more cake. Thanks guys! :)

I listen to a phone call between Veronica and my daughter in law and Veronica was very unprofessional. She has no regards for her customers. I have been in customer service for nearly. 20 years and her behavior is unacceptable. She couldn’t bake dog biscuits for me and the cake her staff put together was horrible. I honestly hate to give one star she deserves none.
