REVIEWS OF Hofer's Bakery and Cafe IN Georgia

Dan Burgess

We ate here for breakfast on our way out of town. It's a good thing or I might have had to eat there every meal and wouldn't have tried many other places. The breakfast was prepared as expected and the kids enjoyed the eggs and bacon. Per my wife, the best part was the bakery. We got half a dozen of their pretzels and a couple of loaves of bread that we tried when we got home. Once again, it's good we were there on our way out because my wife would have loaded us down with bread. She said they had the most authentically German baked goods she has had in the 10 years she has been living here. Everything was fresh and the service was prompt.

Jimmy Wooten

Had a wide selection of pastries and sweets from the bakery! Staff was welcoming and had great recommendations of her favorites. Reese's cheesecake was excellent and the large pretzels were just right...so we're the 4 other things we ordered. Sat outside on the porch under a large tent. Can't go wrong here!

SoSouth Jackson

The cuisine here was completely different, but not necessarily in a bad way. This establishment, like the others in that city have adopted cultures of old Duch or maybe German I forget. The people there were nice which really made up for the lack of intimacy in the seating arrangements. There is also a bakery attached with German and American inspired treats. In concerns with price it was about average for the area. I think I paid about 17 dollars for some corned beef with apple sauce. And the German version of a pancake made of potatoes.

Jimmy W.

This place was still pretty good, but It's gone downhill since we first started eating here, 10 years ago. I was not expecting syrup in a packet.

Jeff Planthold

Great food, wonderful atmosphere, tastefully decorated, clean dining room. If you want to try something different, get the Bavarian Cold Cuts breakfast. I tried it for the first time, and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised! Also had their homemade corned beef hash and it was delicious! Dog friendly front deck for those who choose to bring their four-legged fur babies.

H Cobbler

Not bad at all. Had a nice diverse menu with a lot of authentic choices. Potato cakes were well worth it. Staff was experienced, seasoned, and on point. Seems like they've worked there for years. Only complaint was that half the menu was breakfast, and half was lunch, and you couldn't get items outside of hours. Has a nice store at the main entrance that sells a few colourful and authentic items.

Jim England

The food was incredible as was our waitress Haley! She was easily the best part of the whole experience, we loved her! We will definitely be back!!!

Kay Clements

Best German food in Helen. But my favorite is chicken salad on fabulous buttercrust bread.

David Stevens

I had their breakfast sandwich and it was tasty. The service was amazing and the servers dressed in German garb. This was overall a great experience.

Amanda Sims

The food was delicious. Not a very big place. Stood in line for almost an hour but it was worth. Portions are huge and you can have beer with breakfast.

Mara W

Food was delicious! I had waffles with blueberry compote. Coffee strong. Fluffy and delicious scrambled eggs. Small place so had to wait in line for about 30 minutes, but so worth it! We are going back for lunch. Waitress was attentive. Cozy atmosphere.

Renae Wilson

Wonderful food. One breakfast good for two meals. Worth the wait, there is always a line. Really good coffee too.

Nicholas Goodwin

A must stop in Helen. Excellent pastries.

chris daniels

A taste of Germany.. good food good service.

Ana Olsen

Great food and great service. I love eating here :) they have a wonderful selection

Rahyne TMR

Delicious food and wonderful staff. Absolutely worth every penny

Ruth Flick

Excellent food for breakfast and lunch. We went here several days. Excellent handmade breads and baked goods. Excellent selection of German and American food.

Adam Humphrey

Our waitress was very busy and still very polite and punctual. I was surprised how quickly me and my girlfriend got our food. Great quality of food for the money !

Ananya Narayanan

If you're in Helen, it is worth visiting this bakery. Their pastries are so good that we even took some back home to share with family.

Madi Hankinson

Lovely little place. The patio is adorable. We tried the Oktoberfest pretzels, some strudel, and Bavarian muffin. We will definitely be visiting again

Thomas Barker

They have separate meal times. Food was good though. Bakery and store are separate. Usually a line to eat.

Michelle Edmondson

Loved the food. Get your money's worth. Waitress was wonderful. Price was reasonable. Would go here first.

janet elrod

The food was so gooooood. We had soup and entries. No complaints and we have been to Germany......the food was spot on.

Biljana Cubrovic

A mediocre place, sandwiches were below average and overpriced. Restrooms messy. Service was very slow. It seems they clean the tables very slowly so that you get the impression that they are busy. All in all, overpriced and not worth the wait. We visited on a Sunday in July.

Ricky Studds

Great time here for Octoberfest and Florida refugees from Dorian!!! Had a nice big beer and an excellent Ruben sandwich, the girls on the patio did a great job with service and live music helped keep us entertained on a hot day!!!!

Joyceann DeNigris

I can't say enough good things about this restaurant/bakery. The breakfast was wonderful. We returned for lunch and were pleasantly surprised with my choice of a piled high pastrami sandwich and my husbands piled high Ruben sandwich on there freshly baked bread. The staff was very quick to take our orders and very friendly.

Erik Weber

Outstanding food, outstanding service. My go-to place for breakfast when I'm in Helen. One downside is that the wait for seating is a little long as the dining room is small, but this is made up for in the service in the food quality.

Don Owens

Lots of special baked goods and good meal even if service somewhat slow

Samantha Finley

We had a slight wait but it was a busy weekend during Oktoberfest. Great Rueban sandwich!

Brian C

Good filling comfort food. Long lines and they don't take reservations so be prepared to wait.

Sharon Keith

I originally came here in early-March, when it was still pretty chilly in Helen. The service was wonderful, the food was great. My boyfriend and I came for several meals during our 3-day trip. I came back to Hofer's in mid-June with my sister and her family. We sat outside this time because my dog was with us. The first thing I noticed was the musicians they had on the patio were very loud. I couldn't even hold a conversation with the people at my table. No wonder we were the only people sitting outside! Hofer's also only allowed you to order from an "outdoor" menu, which was very limited. This was a bummer because I was excited for my sister to try the awesome/extensive menu. We even asked if there was any way around this rule and were given a "Sorry, hon.". The food was still good, but I was definitely disappointed with the second visit. I was embarrassed that the place I had raved about was not very accommodating or guest-friendly. I think a real reason for the difference in what I experienced is the slower winter months forces the restaurant to be more hospitable and friendly. In the summer, there are so many tourists, they no longer have the need to provide such excellent service.

Robert Ramsey

The place to go for great German food. This is where I bring visitors to my home for a good meal out. Service is great, Friendly staff. There is also a bakery and small deli. The bakery items remind me a bit of the bakery I used to go to when I lived in Berlin. The have several different type of breads and rolls. They cam preside the breads. Some very good desserts, cookies, tarts, canoli sand such as well as cakes. Pricing is moderate. I will definitely be back.

Adam Jarvis

Way over rated. Waited in line for a 45+ minutes for average food. Service was average at best. We asked to sub out the roll that came with the breakfast meal for a different bread and they said it would be an extra charge. Silverware was dirty. Bakery items were good.

Mary Francis

The food was great. Everyone was so friendly, you reallly must stop here if your visiting Helen,Ga. The Ruben sandwich was awesome as was their pretzels.

Heather Stowers

Pretty yummy food. Decent service. Not a lot of room. Kind of small.

Eli Barona

Delicious German Baker!! Great food, pastries, coffee and more!! My mother loved the pastries for mothers day. Great service and delicious food!

Lizabeth Lyon-Brown

Almost always a wait, Always worth it. Great staff, great food.

Heather Nix

This place used to be really good, but I think the food quality has gone down somewhat in recent years. However, it is still a staple part of our Helen trip. The staff is very friendly and the shop and dessert case in the front are lovely.

Patty Talavera

I just got pastries but service was very good!

Savannah Rose

Cannot speak on the cafe part of this establishment but the bakery was good! We had the German chocolate torte, cream puffs, and apple strudel. All were very good! Friendly and helpful staff as well. They have their own parking in back of establishment for customers, very convenient.

Sonya Ballard

I had the BEST biscuits & gravy I have ever had!! The wait in line was very well worth it! Great service, coffe, & food! This is a MUST anytime you're in Helen.

Steve H

A great taste of Germany in the USA. if you "dine in" get there early because seating is limited and you may have to wait. Excellent pastries and cakes!

Sandra Worthington

The pastries are delicious and beautiful. The breakfast not great. Had an omelette and the vegetables were barely cooked. Maybe it's traditional German cooking but I didn't love it. The grits were watery. Everyone was extremely nice though. Would like to try another meal other than breakfast next time.

Richard Rogers

Wonderfully welcoming bakery with such delicious pastries. Try the apple fritter and have it warm. Light and delicious and not too sweet. Came back and had the cream puff. Stuffed full of whipped cream with a chocolate drizzle. Again, not too sweet. Have not tried the dining room but give us a day.

William Barnick

We tried this German restaurant the last day of our trip. Wish I would have tried this one the first day of our trip. Clean and charming. The service was great. There is a wait between breakfast and lunch but it was well worth it. Red cabbage is a treat, Sauerkraut is near perfect. Bratwurst were delicious. Ruben was the best we have ever had. Coffee is excellent. This should definitely be on the to do list for Helen. Took some Bakery Goods to go and will update after I have tried them.

Jessica Prescott

The food was tasty and reasonably priced. We loved the little grocery store section, since we were able to purchase a few imported items that can be difficult to find. The decor was cute, especially the wall paintings. My spouse enjoyed the Reuben, and I loved the gemüse spätzle.

Michael Mace

Went there for breakfast got there late, no big deal just have lunch instead except I was told it would be 45 min before they start seating for lunch. Kinda lame as far as I'm concerned, the food can't be that good. Is it a Michelin 3 star or something? You can highly doubt all you want that's what I was told.

L. B.

Their sauerkraut was delicious. Try the pretzel dumplings. Very unique and tasty. Dining area could use a facelift. Felt like a nursing home.

Alicia Smith

Best place ever! Love the Buckeyes here!

John Marathonitis

Nice place, but coulnt get my cappuccino

Richard Johnson

Loved it. The Country Biscuit, which is actually a croissant with country ham and egg was amazing. Thinking about going back tomorrow.

Carol Murray

We had German coffee and a cream puff and it was really good

Joseph Pearce

We did a catering order. Very good value, easy communication, and all our guests devoured the biscuits, danishes, and donuts.

Emily Knick

Good food. Schnitzel was good. Potato pancakes were a little too doughy for my taste. Bakery is the bomb!

Miki Hanson

The food is hands down the best we have had outside of Germany. The staff is very friendly. The bread is super. Beer is smooth. We will be back.

Cody Foret

Amazing local breakfast and lunch plus a really great bakery. Friendly staff and awesome food.

Bradley Joseph

Staff was great, food was pretty. Could maybe use some touch up on thr facilities. Though overall we had a great experience!

The Yoga Chick

Super nice service and a convenient location. I love the fact that the waitresses are dressed the part and all. Prices were average but honestly, so was the food. I ordered French toast and I was hoping the bread would be fresh and delicious but it was borderline stale. Hubby has cheese grits and you can tell they use water in the grits and it was no seasoning. He also had the corned beef hash and eggs. He said you could tell that the hash was homemade which was good but it was nothing spectacular about it. The food wasn’t bad, it just really wasn’t good. Our waitress was super nice and so was the front bakery staff. All in all I think is a tourist spot, they don’t have to put much effort into taste because they aren’t really counting on repeat business.

Jerri McConnell

The chicken salad was delicious. But the chocolate eclair was unforgettable. I love this place. You have to go and try their items at the bakery.

John Gates

This restaurant brings back memories of when I was stationed over in Germany. I just absolutely loved their food. I would recommend that you try this restaurant when you visit Helen, GA.

Cleveland Caulker

Haley was amazing, the food looked really delicious with generous portions. The cake however was quite dry (rum truffle). Will definitely be going back. Awesome service!

Tamara Adams

It was very cute inside. We stood in line for about 30 minutes only to receive expensive mediocre food. Will not dine here again.

Kathi Rehrig

Divine treats. We had 4 different baked goods and each one was over the top delicious.

Dan Morris

Love the Bakery/Deli, use it often. Hadn't been to the Cafe' in a while and was disappointed not only in the higher than should be prices, but no local's discount? Said they gave Military Veteran's discounts but forgot twice to apply it. Won't stop going to the Bakery/Deli side.

Pamela Rogus

Excellent food, excellent service!

Ana sanz

Huge lines for this family setting restaurant, but food is very good and cakes and pastries are the best!

Judy W

Yummy! Great breakfast and lunch also drinks and awesome baked goods. Love their Reuben, German potato salad and beehive square.

Amanda Prater

Unique and yummy little place. I didn't think there would be enough seating as we traveled as a group but, surprisingly there was plenty of room! Everything was delicious. The kids loved it too!

Amanda Taylor

Wow, this is the best restaurant in Helen by far. The food is always fresh and the service is always on point. Don't waste your time going to another place. Stop here eat here period.

Bonnie Meyerink

Enjoyed food! Cute place

Tiffany Reed

Was in this area for a work-related trip and came in because this place was highly recommended. Everything looked great and there was no line when I came in, but I was incredibly disappointed in my experience. I bought two pastries. The checkout process made me feel very uncomfortable. I handed the cashier my debit card, but every time the cashier had something to give to me--she would place it on the counter and make me pick it up. The bag with the pastries, the receipt, the pen--all placed on the counter instead of given directly to me even though she and I were standing face-to-face. I handed the signed receipt back to her. As she was preparing to place my debit card on the counter for me to pick up, I made sure that my hand was visible and even attempted to make eye contact to make sure I wasn't going crazy--she still made the decision to put my card on the counter directly below my hand for me to pick up instead. I gave you the courtesy of handing you everything directly. Why did you make me go through the process of picking and scraping everything up instead? Why wasn't I afforded the same simple courtesy? The answer saddens me. Could this be a big misunderstanding and just an example of less-than-ideal customer service? It's possible. I even tried to stay around a little longer to see if this was just the norm or if there were...issues outside of my control...that caused me to be treated so...unpleasantly, but at that point I felt too discouraged and unwelcomed. There won't be a trip back. The poor customer during my time here wasn't worth the hype.

GI Pelley

Delicious food, very friendly staff, AND they give a military discount!

Panhead Pastor

Food was delicious but be prepared to wait in line because everyone knows it and lines are going to be long.

Dan Longstreet

Of all the German restaurants in Helen, Georgia (my wife and I ate at all of them this week), Hofer's was not only THE best, but tasted the most authentically German. Even better, the prices were cheaper (for meals and deserts) than the others as well!

Kevin Korth

Great food and service. Very authentic. Arrive early before you are hungry. Small place so tables do not turn over fast during busy season.

Kemmuel Viveiros

In the City of Helen this bakery stands on its own. They have fantastic fresh bread and a wonderful selection of breakfast food.

Alan Bildzukewicz

Great service but the food was good not great.

Bill Shaffell

Fantastic food, great staff and service! They were super friendly to our dogs and will definitely be back!

M Dyer

AUG 24,2019 The HIGHLIGHT of my Helen, GA trip !!!!! The Staff were very accommodating, genuine, and courteous with a sincere smile, ESPECIALLY the young Lady in the Deli, she was a Sweetie. WONDERFUL fresh Bakery. Brochen Bread and Linzer Raspberry Tarts. GREAT small resale Deli. Mettwurst Meat Pate' and Havarti Cheese. Didn't eat at their restaurant but customers were standing in a long line out the door to dine there. The line was moving fairly smoothly and timely. You could even have a drawn beer or wine as you stood in line. If passing anywhere close in the future, I will definitely be a return customer !!!!!!

Nichole Burgess

Wonderful place to stop for some German fare. Very family friendly. Fantastic assortment of tortes and other delicious baked goodies.

Patricia Sheridan

I throughly enjoyed my rainbow trout at lunch today. The potato salad & coleslaw was delicious! Thank you Barbara for the great service today!

Leo Getgen

Nice place to have lunch. Good ni

Ariana Barnett

Great pastries and AMAZING service! The girl that helped us was so helpful and really made our trip special! We will be back!

ed meyerink

A 25 min wait for the first week of Octoberfest is reasonable. Great cold beer and a fantastic lunch.( Chicken schnitzel, potato salad, red cabbage, with a pretzel roll). Food was almost perfect and had me fooled I was in Germany.

Tracy Kessell

Great atmosphere and really good food. Our server was very friendly efficient. We really enjoyed our lunch experience.

Randy B

Was looking for local restaurant for breakfast. Homers was within walking distance. Breakfast was mediocre at best. Tried to order toast instead of "german" rolls was told there would be upcharge for toast strike one. Rolls came out room temp at best, strike two. Sausage links were not cooked through, strike three. Breakfast plate was removed an was told manager would cook mine. Wife finished her waffle while waiting for mine to be re-cooked. Breakfast was re-cooked better this time. Didn't enjoy the experience or rolls.

Reva Fitzpatrick

Food is excellent. Staff is outstanding.

Sara Neville

Such yummy treats. Anytime we are within a few miles from here, we beeline to the bakery and get a few sweets. So good.

Andy Craig

Delicious ! Get the sweet red cabbage. And everything else.

Scott McCloy

Very good and fresh food, especially the items in the bakery. Great selection for breakfast and lunch. Service was attentive, once we sat down. Only reason for taking a star away was lack of turning the tables... four tables sat empty and dirty for around 15 minutes, while there was a line out the door. Great place and worth the wait.

Sarah Carver

Nice little bakery. People were nice. It was neat to see the German foods you could buy and the baked goods were phenomenal!

Kevin Thomas

Pricey, for me, but I'd love to try everything in the bakery case. Bought a few items and shared with friends with coffee outside. Good coffee too btw.

Deann Adams

We visited for the weekend. We were not looking for a bakery but sure glad we found this one. We went the first night we were in town, enjoyed it so much we had to go back before we left. The staff is very friendly and willing to explain the products. Wish we had a bakery like this where we live.

Ronald Frasier

Was definitely worth the wait in line to be seated.

Edwin R Bolton Jr

Worth a visit just to see the bakery. Nice breakfast menu choices. The German cold cuts plate was plentiful and enough to share and save for sandwiches later. Rihanna was a friendly and helpful server.

John Gross

Delicious food and friendly staff in a charming setting. Each visit has been a pleasure, whether indoors or out. Good deli and bakery counter selection, and there are packaged German food items e.g. chocolates, teas, candies, cookies and more. Free parking for customers is a plus during busy event weekends.

Marlena Spence

Always delicious and authentic German breads and desserts which is what I was after this afternoon. Even though the lunch hour was officially "over," the staff went above and beyond for some travelers who really wanted to have their cake and eat it (at the restaurant) too. They then graciously helped me choose a delicious Linzer torte (fruit tart with almond crust) and a Bee Sting cake with a light spongy cake and a creamy custard filling, and also some great breads including their World Cup bread with lots of good for you sunflower seeds. Stop by when you're in Helen for some Kaffe und Kuchen (Coffee and Cake)!

Alice Beringer

The bakery was amazing! However the meal was ok and expensive for what you got and for the area. I would go back for the cream puff but skip the meal.

CL B

Food and service was excellent. I wish they had more vegan choices but overall it is a great place to enjoy breakfast.

Jackie Byrd Barnes

It was our anniversary and they brought us the best plate of goodies from the bakery. Yummy

Leon Chute

Staff are very friendly and helpful. Had lunch and ended taking half of it back to our room. Good size servings. This is a great place to eat lunch and bring your fur-baby. They brought water out for your pet. Food is great and if you don't stop here for the bakery or eating, you missed out.

Jane Eustice

Very pet friendly. I asked for a cup of water for my dog, the girl asked me what size dog. I told her a Lab and she brought a bucket of water for her.

Janet Geerlings

The pretzels and pastries are amazing, and there was even live music!

Glen & Renee Allen

Amazing breakfast! Wonderful waitresses! Delicious & smooth coffee!

Robin Dmochowski

Our favorite place was closed on Wednesday so we thought we would try something new. The comparison of this to the other place was: 1 big piece of pork schnitzel instead of 2 and tough as shoe leather. The spaetzel was bland, and barely warm. The gravy was thick and just brown with mushrooms but little to no flavor. All if this...and they were more expensive! Oh well, we TRIED someplace different!

Aloha Bob Moffa

Had a great breakfast with a ton of very unique choices and very cheerful waitresses.

Malina Xiong

Love the cake! Its not too sweet.

Linda Roerig

Food was great, waitress was fantastic, service quick.

Justin Kempski

This was our first stop during our Oktoberfest bar crawl- awesome! Had a couple Pauly Marzens and some great service!

Doris Daniel

Quick service, clean dining area, great food. I ate breakfast there, and the chef was accommodating to dietary limitations.. low potassium diet.

Rich R

This is the place to go to for breakfast in Helen! We now always make it a point to stop in at least once. You will not be disappointed if you give this place a try!

Barbara Luna

Amazing food and service. My mom lived in Germany for many years. She said it was very authentic and nostalgic.

Billy Prince

Only down side they close to soon, great coffee and German chocolate cake.

Georgia 3Gunner

Incredible breads and desserts. Stopped in for lunch, quality food all around and beer to boot. Highly recommend.

Page Flournoy

Very cute bakery! We just bought bread for sandwiches but were tempted by all the fabulous pasteries. Delightful atmosphere!

Theresa Corno

Food and service were great. Prices were very reasonable.

Edward Timm

Very good German bakery and deli and the food in the restaurant was outstanding

Ron Weyersberg

This place has great food... bit pricey and built in 18% gratuity (not a fan of forced tipping for counter service.) However, food was delicious and staff friendly. They would get 5 star if they got rid of forced tipping.

Romana Cozzolino

Do not go between breakfast and lunch. they put out a chair and if you're in front of the chair you're lucky to get breakfast if you're behind the chair then you have to wait for lunch but nobody tells you and you're standing there for half an hour and they give you a piece of bread to tide you over ... we turned around and left finally.

Joyce L. Luke

I would give them a 10 if I could. Great food great customer service. Waitress was awesome.

Joseph Fleming

Excellent lunch experience. Food was delicious.

jonathan lucas

I wouldn't even bother eating German anywhere else in Helen. Amazing service and the food is top notch. I would return for every meal of the day. If you want breakfast or lunch go there. 5 stars all day everyday.

Shaq Gonzales

The food was soo good. The bakery was delicious. Its a small sit down so go early or be prepared for a wait. We ate bakery items while we waited in line to sit down for breakfast.

Sharon Alli

Wow, we loved Hofer's. We had breakfast here 3 days in a row, food was excellent and service and staff were very friendly. They even have a small store with German goodies.

Jessica Higdon

We always enjoy Hofers for breakfast! The quaint dining room is perfect for couples who want to be close to each other and talk softly. The food has never been less than delicious! Their pastries and fresh deli are wonderful as well. If you enjoy the coffee in the restaurant be sure to grab some from the gift shop as we do to carry the feeling home.

Gina Kashnig

At 830am the Bakery baskets are empty. No product. Reminded me of former East Germany where they truly had nothing. A true Bakery should be ready by 7am/8am to sell product. Certainly NOT a German style bakery. Was told that the bread and pretzels would be ready by 10am!!!??? You have lost me at that point.

Pamela Farmer

Hofer's Bakery and Cafe was a good place to get breakfast. The dining room is small so we had to wait for a few minutes. The tables are very close together. The food was good. The employees were friendly and wore cute outfits. On your way out, you can purchase bread, snacks and candy for later.

Ann Ledford

Good food and great service. We went there for breakfast. I definitely do recommend giving them a try. Get there early though, there was a crowd waiting for them to open!

Alex Green

Oh man was this place good. Their Bier was so good and the schnitzel sandwich was great with their homemade sauerkraut! We took home two loaves of bread and some sweets from the bakery which were phenomenal.

Ashley Kirk

My husband and I went for breakfast and it was wonderful! The breakfast potatoes and the rolls are great. Loved the coffee and the service was so nice. Will come back before we go home!

Adam Nevis

Excellent authentic German food! Service was good and the food incredible!

Justin Tholl

If only I could express my happiness at the wonderful experience at Hofer's! Convenient parking in the rear, my lovely wife and pooch sat out on the patio and I was able to order inside. The wonderful staff brought our dog a pail of water and were very friendly. We also got to meet a few other furry guests who were all well socialized and just made eating there a treat. The biscuits and gravy were fabulous (and plentiful!), I also had a side of hash that was cooked perfectly and a wonderful balance of ingredients. My wife's country morning breakfast sandwich was great as well "these eggs are awesome!" We'll be back!

Daileen Galarza

We decided to go here for dessert since google showed high reviews but we were not impressed at all. There is a bakery, a restaurant and an outdoor porch with a bar and live music. I’m going to talk just about the baker since that is what we went for. Everything looked delicious but I was unsure on what to get and the lady serving us rushed us that I ended up not getting anything. My husband did get a chocolate cookie but it did not taste good at all. The coffee we got was cold and flavor was not great. Kind of expensive and not good at all compared to all the good dessert locations in downtown. My advise go somewhere else in downtown Helen for something sweet.

Carlene Smith

Delicious food. Great and friendly service

Helen T

Whent to Hofer's especially for my birthday today cake had shaving cream icing and apple strudel was hard as a rock WHAT HAPPENED!!! Know this is tourist trap area but this place used to be MUCH BETTER!!! THANKS FOR MY LOSEY BIRTHDAY CAKE SHOULD HAVE WENT TO THE GROCERY STORE IF I WANTED FAKE CAKE!!! And my name is Helen how ironic

Burton Hataway

Good breakfast. The French toast and fried apples pair very well together. The smoked pork chop was ok, but not like I remember from my days in Germany. I would definitely go again!

Imani Grady

Very nice historic place in helen, lots of things on the menu and lots to choose from in the bakery section. My group was lucky to get here before the breakfast rush. Any later and we would have been at the back of the line, out the door and around the cafe! Very popular place, get here early. Only down side is the space. Small tables, sat very close to everyone.

Mike Tierney

very cute Quaint restaurant but very small seating if you're expecting to get a table you're going to have to wait and if you want to get lunch when it's close to breakfast time do I have to wait another 30 minutes in all expect to wait an hour for food

Dorothy Brady

Wow, great bakery in Helen, GA. I recommend it to everyone who wants a taste of delish baked goods...But, a cup of coffee is a bit expensive.

Adam Post

Good food(Best breakfast in Helen,Ga.), baked goods are always well done.

Ebo J.

The service was really good. The hostess and waitresses were quite chatty. They were very pleasant. I even had a few chuckles. The dessert was delicious. The only regret we have is not going there for breakfast. We'll definitely be going back next time we're in Helen.

Flap Jack Stevens

Bakery, yes! Restaurant, ok. Super long wait on weekends, for good but nothing-special food. This could be relieved at least somewhat if thou could eat on the patio, but that's reserved for people with dogs, of which there were zero during our 40-minute wait and ensuing meal. Ridiculous.

Saturn View

German owned and delicious!!! This place has some really great German fare, a gift "vault" and bakery. Stop in and sit for a meal or just grab some stuff from the bakery to-go, either way you won't leave disappointed. Every time we're in Helen, this is a must have!

Camille Vaughn

We waited for an hour which we knew we would have a long wait so we were okay with that but after we were seated there was food on some of the silverware, the rolls were stale (yes even in the inside I know the outside of the rolls are supposed to be hard) and the food was nothing special. I had the corned beef hash and I was great but everyone else at my table got eggs and the omelet and said they were disappointed in it. The service was good but it wasn’t worth an hour wait.

steven alan

Haley was the best waitress I've had in a loooooong time! Made sure we understood the menu, and daily specials! Food was amazing! Hot and to order. Will definitely return.

Jin Takaya

Great food, good desserts and nice people what more do you need

Karen Sterman

The baked goods were awesome! What a wide selection and the ladies that worked there were so helpful.

Danielle Beal

Smells good. Croissant was pretty good. They only have plain coffee, no specialty coffee drinks.

Zeenat Hakim

Try this quaint Bakery/Cafe. The decor is unique and pleasing. We had vegetable sandwiches and a half sandwich-soup combo. The soup of the day was, "beef and barley", it was very delicious. The sandwiches were not worth the price. The greeter was charming, our server was curt and rude. The baked goods looked very delicious, we just tried their strawberry- chocolate cheesecake cup which was ok

Cynthia Wolters

Pastry at this bakery are wonderful and not supper sweet. The food unfortunately is not authentic German food even though they honesty try and it's clean. To make customers purchase sides that would normally go with the authentic German dish is disappointing. Substitutions are not allowed. They also don't serve fries which is always served with schnitzel and the German potatoe salad didn't even have bacon. So again, not original German food. The prices are inflated. A slice of cake costs the same as a cream filled donut $5.50. Unless you happen to German or have been to Germany of course you would never know the difference. I wish them well, but would recommend you drive about 5 more miles away and enjoy the same food and save yourself some major money

I had the soup and half sandwich. The soup is homemade and so is the bread. Delicious! The service was great!

Went there for breakfast. Their coffee was super and our meal was good.

Very busy late Sunday morning, but I got a coffee and apple strudel which were both amazing. Very popular place. I will try the breakfast next time I visit Helen.

Very authentic German bakery and restaurant. Food was delicious, but long wait times and slow service.

The service was very good, the food was ok and the cost was high. With all the choices of places to eat in Helen I would not return.

A visit to Helen Georgia isn't complete without a stop at Hofer's Bakery. This is a traditional German bakery and delicatessen with everything from sweet to savory. Order from their menu or buy direct from the bakery and eat at one of there indoor or outdoor dining areas. The traditional strudels and shortbread pastries are delicious. This would be a great place to celebrate a birthday, anniversary or engagement. Just pick a cake from the offered selection or special order for something unique. The raspberry, cherry or apricot shortbread triangles are sweet and tangy with a melt in your mouth crumble. Chocolate Eclairs and massive Cream Puffs filled with Bavarian cream will tempt you from the display case. The deli case directly opposite the pastry case (sorry and failed to picture it) is stuffed with German cheeses and meats. This is really a place for everyone. I stood and watched as children gazed wide eyed at the treats.
