The atmosphere at City Cafe was very nice, but I was not happy with the service or the food. We came to City Cafe for lunch and we waited about 45 minutes before our food came out. We were told that a large party had ordered before us and slowed things down. I ordered the schnitzel and veggies. The schnitzel was nicely done, but the vegetables were so overcooked they were mush on my plate. Unfortunately, I had ordered a double order of veggies because I did not want the potatoes that normally came with the veggies. The waitress never came back to check on us until we were ready to pay the bill. I ate only two bites of my double portion of vegetables and when she took my plate I let her know that they were terribly overcooked. She did not apologize or offer anything to make it right. That usually goes a long way toward making things right with me, but she expressed no concern at all. Very frustrating!

Tried to get a table for 5 for lunch today. Was told we could not be seated until all our party was there. Watched two ladies get seated and someone else joined them 10 minutes later. I sat by and watched this with an 82 and 87 year old sitting by my side waiting. Rather than make a scene we left. Not a happy camper right now!

The food is very good, but the beer is outstanding! My waitress was very nice. There was live music being played outside which was so good it took me half an hour to realize that it was coming from outside and not the speakers! Dessert options aren't very extensive but they taste amazing!

Manager Bahia and staff was dismissive and very rude when called to ask questions about an overpriced cake order. Apparently, a manager can't come to the phone during dinner time. They did not even attempt to offer any apology for their lack of knowledge on what they offer. They gave the wrong cake, or have no idea what a flan actually is. Despite their incompetence ruining a birthday, the manager offered no help whatsoever. My only recourse is to share my experience so that others aren't duped and cheated as we were.

Horrible experience! This is my first time at this place. I had a taste for fried green tomatoes. I had to return home and get my card because I left it but was given an attitude by I’m guessing the manager when i asked for my order to be redone because it had sat for an hour due to them not wanting to enter my card information manually. Then she asked for me for my ID to pay for my food with my card when the customer of another race before me wasn’t. She then added a tip to my card for a TO GO ORDER and told me it’s for to go containers and plastic utensils. I thought about bringing my family for mother’s day but it’s a no.

Went walking downtown to city cafe, the staff was very welcoming. They treated my family and I very well. We went for breakfast but had no idea they don't do breakfast. We ate from the bakery and they brought out everything for us on the varanda. Had dinner here 2yrs ago and the service was just the same ,a warm welcome. I wish they do b~fast

This is one of my three favorites in Fayette County. We lived in Germany 3 1/2 years and I can tell you City Cafe is authentic and delicious. I don't expect crab cakes in a German restaurant, unless in Northern Germany, which is not landlocked like the rest. It is best to order German food in a German restaurant. My daughter bought a beautiful and delicious birthday cake for me when she gave me a birthday tea. Amazing.

Came in for dinner. Sat pretty quickly. Server wasn't very friendly. The overall complete dish wasn't very warm . My chicken was tough and the vegetable I ordered (Green beans) were soggy and limp. Others in my party also felt the food was lacking. Doubt we'll be going back.

Went here recently because my mother in law is German & this is probably the closest German-style restaurant to where we live. Most of us had the chicken schnitzel with mashed potatoes and it was REALLY good! They put some white wine cream sauce on top & boy is it yummy! The indoor dining is smaller, but they have a lot of outdoor space. We also happened to go when they have Octoberfest & had live music outside. Their bread is SO good, too! The staff seemed mostly friendly, although some of the hosting staff seemed a little miserable. The bakery portion is a little small, but they have a lot of options that taste lovely. I'd definitely eat here again, although be prepared to pay a pretty penny!

I came on Easter Day with my family and had a nice time. Live guitar music, good food, outdoor seating (in beautiful April weather), and a general flair of "Southern Upscale". It was very relaxing and comfortable, and the wait staff were helpful and professional. But the food is all that matters, ultimately. There was a great pot roast...tons of desserts to choose from...mashed potatoes and omelettes i think and various other nice choices. There were some average or sub-par offerings too, though--like some attempt at tarragon chicken and some fish thing. Didn't look appetizing. I know it's hard to keep buffet fare looking nice but it was clear that some options were a lot better than others. But i stuck to the foods i liked! And it was a very good meal, so---four stars!

Met family from out-of-state here for delicious lunch. The jäger schnitzel (breaded veal with red wine mushroom sauce) was excellent, served with roasted potatoes and vegetables. My wife enjoyed the käse spãtzel, sauted with black forest ham and Parmesan cheese in a light cream sauce. Prepare to be tempted by a huge array of goodies from the cafe's German bakery.

When we first got there we were sat right away and greeted by a server, she took our drink orders and then came back a few minutes later for our food order and then disappeared for 40 minutes and never came back. We see our food come to the window and set there for 20 minutes before even being looked at by somebody. We watch it get passed to the back and then brought right back up with only the veggies being replaced. We were served cold food which was fish by the way and when we brought it up to the server she went away and then came back and offered to reheat our dishes. No that's not okay and the manager didnt even come over to address the complaint until I asked for the manager personally and she offered to reheat fish. Just terrible service all around and was not impressed for a first time visit. Will not be going back. They did comp both meals without me asking for it so that was nice. I was willing to pay for the food and told the manager that. Very disappointed since I heard such great things about this establishment.

Every year I want to celebrate my birthday there. love their Oktoberfest season. Been going for over 15 years. But lately I went for lunch and they had grouper sandwich and it was better than the one I could have in Clearwater beach. Always so good and variety of menus. The only place I know in the area to serve veal. To top good food they have the best desserts which is where they started many years ago. European style pastries. They did the First communion cake for my son in shape of a cross(he wanted with tiramisu filling

Can I say wow!! This local restaurant is serving up some delicious, flavorful German inspired meals and pastries. Every meal and dessert I've eaten has been good to delish. Indoor atmosphere and outdoor seating are great no matter what occasion (lunch, dinner, date night etc). Servers are knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and patient. Prices are reasonable and portion sizes are perfect. The facility is always clean and organized, even during their buziest times. Desserts range from cakes, cookies, pies to macaroons.

This place has some of the best sweets in the area. Haven't had the opportunity to eat lunch or dinner here. Me and my bf enjoyed our meal this is a nice establishment, it is nice on the inside and outside eating area. I chose to eat outside since it was nice weather. We received rolls that were hard as a rock, very unsuspecting since they have a bakery. I had the Jamaican grilled chicken with zucchini and mashed potatoes and he had the grilled amber jack and mashed potatoes. I thought that mash potatoes came with my meal but when it came, it had rice. My waitress was quick to fix the issue, she brought me mashed potatoes. I saw the desserts inside, I thought that there would be more choices, I didn't end up getting any.

Hosted our granddaughter's bridal luncheon here and everything was perfect! City Cafe's special touches made this a very special occasion for our Bride and large group. Our two serving hosts, Liz and Dee, were wonderful and did an excellent job of making sure everyone had what they needed. The kitchen did an amazing job of preparing the meals for our large group and having them all served at the same time. All the guests enjoyed their entree (Crab Cakes, House Salad w/ Grilled Chicken or Turkey Panini with Brie and Apple) and dessert was a hit with everyone! Most purchased extra treats from the wonderful bakery inside the cafe. My husband and I eat lunch here occasionally and always enjoy our meal. I highly recommend City Cafe for a nice lunch, dinner or for hosting your next social gathering. They were wonderful to work with!
