Me and my Colombian husband had lunch here today.I was surprised at how GOOD the food was, it was like eating in Colombia,the place is super clean, the staff is excellent, very welcoming with a smile on their face and a positive attitude. Sign out front said "salads, sandwiches, hamburgers", but when my mom asked for a chicken sandwich the server told us they don't have sandwiches. We all ordered lunch, my dad's empanadas showed up and her didn't want to eat until everyone else's good arrived. Server told us "ten minutes" before the rest was ready. They brought my fish (pictured) and mom's grilled chicken. Next we waited for George's food. We had asked about their "soup of the day" and told they don't have it, but server pointed to several other items that were soup. A platter finally showed up which was definitely not soup. Back-waiter struggled to comprehend why we didn't want that plate. Eventually it was taken to another table and a bowl of soup showed up. Dad ate one empanada and decided he didn't like them so he didn't eat the second. The rest of the food was ok. When server came back to ask how we liked the food, our effort to explain that we weren't happy with some of it wasn't part of the expected script. Eventually, an answer of "it's ok" got them to stop asking. Highlight, the sauce they brought for the empanadas was really delicious on the fish.

Tonight’s meal was horrible. This place use to be great and it’s been about a year since I last ate here and their standards for service went down the drain. I’m not a complainer by any means but they served me burnt soup it smelled burnt like the pot burnt at some point . How they let that leave the kitchen is beyond me. Fine I sent it back but then my pollo con champinones arrived and I kid you not they served me old rice that got hard and they reheated it and served me that. I couldn’t believe it . What happened to el portal this is not the food I remember. They lost their love or pride in their food . Something has gone wrong but how sad that they are serving burnt old food to us.

Well if i could give the place 0 stars i would. Just went to this place because I read the reviews. I was really feeling like Mexican tonight and I didn't want taco bell. I get to the door, look through the glass to the two waitresses. They both look me in my eyes. I give the international sign for "yall closed" (doing the throat slice with my hand). They both just stared and look away. I dont recommend this place.
