What does Bing's do wrong? Nothing in the 20 years we've bought there! We've had nearly every dessert they sell and it's always fabulous! Wish they would come back to Middletown again, in a more visible location. They would have great business there this time, in my opinion. The store they had when they were here wasn't visible enough. Most people, even today, didn't know Bing's had a bakery in Middletown at all.

My fiance and I were a little put off by the reviews we read here, but decided to give Bing's a chance because of the positive things we heard about them through word of mouth. We were not disappointed! The first thing we want to note is that the place was hopping when we got there. Many people were picking up cakes or just stopping in to grab a snack. All of the staff were attentive and nice. Norma was our wedding consultant and she was phenomenal! I had been emailing with the shop the week prior to our appointment to set things up and they were very prompt, emailing me back in 24 hours or less (usually within an hour of my original email). Norma took all our ideas and suggestions and helped us merge them into one cake. She never said "We can't do that" even though our cake was a bit more on the complicated side. They also showed us a few of the cakes that they had done before using client ideas and I think they turned out wonderfully. Norma priced out all the different options we had available to us and helped us fit our dream cake into our budget. The samples they had us try were great as well! I am looking forward to seeing our finished cake in a few months. The only reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is because I haven't seen the finished cake yet. Once I do I will be back to finish this review! After the wedding: The cake turned out amazing and we got lots of comments on how beautiful and unique it was! We couldn't be happier with how everything turned out. Bing's was very accommodating. We recommend them highly!

My family's favorite bakery for many years. My favorite is the hamestashen -small triangles with cherry filling they are not overly sweet. Great lobster tails they are huge and filled with a yummy creme. Cherry kuchen used to be my favorite and if they don't have it in the case out front you can order it.

We got our wedding cake through Bing's and I cannot say enough great things! Our guests raved about the cake so much. We had 105 guests but ordered enough cake for 140, but everyone kept coming back for more and we actually almost ran out! We did a 4-tier and had a different flavor for each tier. I ordered a strawberry short cake from Bing's the other day and it was very disappointing. It was beautifully decorated but the filling tasted like the strawberry goo that you get at the grocery store and left a chemical taste. The whipped cream had no flavor and the cake was just OK. I have had better from the grocery store for half the cost. I called Bing's and was asked to bring the cake it to see Norma. Norma did not want to hear what I thought and she did not care to make it right. All I wanted was to exchange for another cake since I have heard that Bing's cakes are good. Maybe just the strawberry shortcake is not so I was willing to exchange it and give them another chance. Without even discussing anything Norma said they will give me half of my money back so she opened the register and handed me $12.25. I was shocked that she didn't even offer me the full amount since I brought her 3/4 of the cake back. It was evident that Norma did not care to make it right and keep a customer. In this day in age when times are tough you would have thought she would make customer service a priority. I would NEVER treat my customers like that, especially knowing that this was my first experience there. I will NEVER go back again and I will make sure my friends wont either.

I noticed there was another reviewer on here with the same problem we had. We went here hoping to get our wedding cake. The owner informed us she would call us back in one week after she talked to the baker. One and a half weeks went by, no call. So I called. I was told I'd be called back because the owner wasn't in. Again, no call. Four more days go by, I call again informing them of both times I was not called, and I was told by the owner "the baker hasn't gone into his office, he goes straight back to the baking area" Is it wrong to wonder how the bakers know what they are supposed to make if they don't look at their order forms? So trying my best to be patient, we wait. Two weeks go by and my fiance calls and recaps the entire situation to the owner, all she told him was "oh" No apology, nothing. This place is a waste of time, and if you are a bride that doesn't want one more stressful thing to worry about DO NOT order from here. We ended up going down the street to Cakes By Kim. The staff was very polite, professional, attentive and they communicate wonderfully. In my opinion their cake is much better quality as well. The cake at Bings was on the dry side.

I would trade a kidney for some Bings. I always order our cakes from here and every time people want to know where the cake is from. My favorite so far has to be the chocolate cake I ordered for my daughter's 4th bday that had raspberry filling5inside. After the kids went to bed, I pulled out what was left, grabbed a fork and ate a whole corner straight out of the box. My daughter snuck downstairs just before dawn the day after, planning a top-secret cake breakfast for one. She woke me up just before 7 am, mad as h-e-double-hockeysticks that I ate HER cake - and to make matters worse, the fact that I had eaten the middle of the rainbow was unforgiveable. For my first experience at Bing's, I ordered a yellow-mocha cake for my mother's birthday. The cake was light & moist; not over powering like some mocha cakes we've tried at different establishments. Mom went back for seconds! The staff at Bing's was very helpful. I went to pick up the cake the night before my preferred date and pick up time. At no fault to the bakery the cake wasn't prepared. I was offered the yellow-mocha cake in the display case which worked out beautifully based on my schedule constraints. The staff member went above and beyond my expectations by additionally writing a personalized message on the cake. I will definitely be a returning customer!

Chocolate Raspberry Royal Prince cushion fondant cake tasted perfect and looked exactly how we wanted it to look. As famous as they are, I was disappointed in their customer service. I stopped in to ask some general questions about a wedding cake. I know it's the norm to set an appointment up for a consultation, but my mom and I went in to just get some information on what they could do, since our venue isn't local and we would have to transport it. Unfortunately, we had to wait about 15 minutes before we could even speak to who was in charge of wedding cakes. After that, she told us she couldn't sit down with us and that we would have to make an appointment with her, which would be okay, but then she told me we had to send her dates we were available and she would tell us when we would meet. All the other vendors I have worked with in the past have looked at their availability on the spot and offer me times to work with. I feel like you should have your availability for customers to make an appointment. Because of this, we have chosen to look elsewhere for our wedding cake.

I currently live it Baltimore and I promise you this big city has no bakery that can match the hidden charm of Bing's. Everything is always delicious...cakes (store and ordered), cookies, tomato pie, glacés (a must try), pastries, and cookies. And, all staff is so welcoming and helpful as soon as you walk in the door. I recommend Bing's to all!

Got Moana inspired cupcakes for my sons birthday and they were super cute! Turquoise and orange swirl frosting in cookie crumb sand. ADORABLE! Delivered to his child care center on time. Super courteous staff were great. That being said the cupcakes themselves were a trainwreck. Dry and crumbly. As soon as you took the paper off you had a pile of crumbs. The children didn't enjoy them but the staff enjoyed the icing.

This review is based on just one order that I placed at this bakery. We ordered a black forest cake to be picked up after 4 days. Had to call in at the last moment to prepare the order one day ahead and they accommodated that request which I am grateful for. The cake was really good too. The employees were very helpful and pleasant. It is convineantly located in Newark Downtown and there is a huge shopping complex parking lot opposite to the place. Would definitely recommend this place.

My mother loves this place. She always raves about the fruit tarts. I've always loved the fresh baked donuts and the Pecan Pralaine. They've been open since 1946 and have been Delaware's oldest bakery ever since it was originally named Fader's Bakery way way back in 1871. So roughly 145 years. They've been making everything from scratch for all of this time and they know what they're doing. Everything from Communion Cakes, Graduation Cakes, Wedding Cakes, you name it. I hope they'll be around for another 100 years.
