Went to Tartine for the first time today and was not disappointed. It was quite busy on a Sunday around noon - the line was out the door and around the corner. My family and I waited about 20 minutes to make it to the line to order, and then another 15 minutes to get our sandwiches (made fresh). I had the ham and cheese sandwich, which was incredible. The rest of the family tried some sweets and quiche slices and said those were great, too. I'll be back for sure!

Anyways! As usual we ordered the Banana Tart Creme and that is my favorite every time I come here. No doubt it's sweet and creamy and just an enjoyable tart in the morning with coffee. I got to try the morning bun and that was super sweet and cinnamony taste. Another great sweet to add with coffee in the morning. Very soft and made perfect in every bite. I shared the croque monsieur with my brother and my girlfriend. That was was really good. We chose turkey as our protein and it was flavorful packed with the gruyere cheese on top of the bread. I def would order this again.

Ahad Subzwari

A nice barkery with a lot of options for pastries and more. Prices are pretty higher, but food is solid.

WYing Goh

The banana cream pie is to die for. The pastry is flaky and nice. The cream wasn't too sweet and the banana, chocolate and caramel balance the tart very nicely. Delicious. Can't wait to try out their other pastries.

Cat Lady

Long lines on weekends! Worth the wait for the dessert options, for sure. Sandwiches are a bit too breast for my liking..

Justin Ogden

I'm so in love with this place. The place has the best cakes. There is so much of variety. My wife loves their food. I always love to get cakes from this place, as it makes my wife happy. Best quality!

Kelsey Brandin

The pastries are elegant and not too sweet - allowing the flavors of the chocolate to really shine. However, given the fame of Tartine, they can get away with some rather lofty pricing for certain items that leave a lot to be desired. I didn't get to try their famous sourdough, though, which I bet is fabulous.

Lawrence Stevens

High expectations based on reviews and word of mouth. Croissants are good... But on my day of purchase they were overdone... At $5 a croissant they should suck up the mistakes and make a fresh batch

Matthew Gallant

Busy by virtue of its quality but also because of its limited space. Delicious pastries and coffee.

James Grinage

Must visit if in the Mission -- great pre or post park adventure. They have great loafs of bread to take home if you live in the bay ( we got the countryside loaf with sesame seeds on top). Alternatively, you can order a pastry/dessert and it'll run you around $7-9 per pastry. Definitely expensive but worth it if you appreciate an eclectic flavor profile. My girlfriend ordered a slice of passion fruit cake and loved it. I had a bite and it was killer. I ordered a slice of lemon merengue pie and couldn't have been happier. The slices are quite large and although expensive, they're damn delicious. Overall, if you've got a sweet tooth, this is a must try!

Michael Morrison

Great bakery. Maybe the best I EVER tasted

Amy Korb

Beautiful and delicious. Worth the line and chaos.

Audrey Peters

The bread was very good. There is always a line at this place.Absolutely fantastic bakery with a wide variety of baked goods.Love this place.

lady luck bug

Hands down the best coffee I have ever ever had!!! I own a bookstore cafe and know the importance of making well balanced coffee. Had I know it was going to be so smooth and rich I would not have added honey. If I could drink more than one coffee at a time I would have had another but just an espresso to truly enjoy the craft the pulled from the machine. WELL DONE!!!

Tara Riedel

Best loaf of bread we've ever bought.

Danny Cohen

Good bakery, but I think the clout is bigger than the taste. Treats were good, not great, not bad. Just ok. There are some really amazing small bakeries in SF that would rival or beat Tartine and have no lines. Besides the lines it’s very very expensive, expect about $8-9 for a single tart.

Larry C

I still come back to the original location and wait with the crowds. Am always rewarded with impeccable French baking no matter what I purchase!

Matthew Harris

The tart shells here are so good--especially when paired with bavarian cream and fresh fruit. The best!

Junha Shin

Though quality of food would be first, service shouldn't be neglected if they're serving themselves. Couple of people were staying in idle, but they even didn't try to clean tables at all for more than 10 min. It might be better to take out rather than have yourselves place. Croissants and tart were fair enough, but not very special.

Jeffrey Petit

Love this place. They have a wide variety of unique desserts from around the world. Always something new to try. Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere. I always make time to stop by when visiting the area. The desserts are absolutely beautiful and tasty. They have a perfect amount of sweetness in their cakes , neither too less nor too much. I love this place. The staff is amazing and always there to satisfy my sweet cravings always.

S Alessandra

I adore all their dishes, savory or sweet! Worth the wait if there’s a line. Can’t go wrong bringing back their desserts for a dinner party or just because.

Alina Ferguson

Amazing cake. Gluten free and tasty. They were great. Amazing service.

Soumeya Benghanem

I love the constantly changing menu and the freshness of everything here. Anything savory with tomatoes

Sarah Bal

I went there with my husband and somehow I feel the place is a bit overrated. It’s a very small place and hence has very little seating. The tables are super dirty and sticky. We grabbed a table and the people before us had left their used plates(you have to put your dishes into the cleaning bin and throw your trash). We asked servers to please clean the table and literally for 15 mins we stood there waiting for someone to help us with bundle of dishes. A waitress came and put our stuff down next to the trash and left! Eventually we grabbed their dirty dishes and trashed them. It was such a horrible experience. The food is nothing exceptional as well. Tried out there quiche and it had really burnt ends, the chocolate cake was super sweet.

Luis G

Always delicious food. Breakfast and lunch are different menus. It's our third time visiting in 6 years and we are delighted and surprised by the tastes and smells

Eric Lee

A delicious bakery in the Mission District, with lots of good pastries, cakes, and bread. We ordered a croissant and pastrami sandwich, and were very satisfied. The line outside moved faster than expected, though the hot pressed sandwich took about 20 minutes. Definitely will be coming back again.

Mark Kalpakis

It is very VERY rare that I feel that a bakery has truly nailed the croissant. Tartine nailed it %110. Made a point to try both locations, both were phenomenal. I would absolutely encourage anyone who loves authentic french pastries to gives this place a shot.

Ernesto Olson

This place is the best.Last week i got an anniversary cake for my mom-dad. I got a blueberry cake from Tarting Bakery , it being the favourite flavour of my mom. And she was so happy with the cake and told me that it was the best blueberry cake she ever had. Thanks Tartine Bakery for the wonderful cake.

Nicholas DeHaan

In the running for best bakery in the area! The lemon tart was smooth, creamy, and fruity without being acidic. My favorite was the breakfast roll. It was gooey and flakey at the same time. Don't know how that is physically possible but they manage to pull it off here. Coffee was good and ambiance was fun, if a bit packed. If you want a treat, the line is worth the wait!

Bethany Simpson

I had the pumpkin pie! It was amazing!

Syrah M

This place is so famous they don’t even have a sign on the door ! It smelled so good we had to try it all. Our favorites hands down are the sweet bun (tastes like orange, and sweetness, so good!) and the the gougere (like a pop over but savory and So Good!!!)

Charles Beeman

World class pastries. Try the morning buns and the croissants...

Suresh S

Croissants were super fluffy and buttery. Savory scones were good

Melody Kao

The bread was very good. Maybe because I'm not from SF, but I thought ~$6.50 for a baguette was a bit much. I would like to try their other loaves next time, though. You can watch them baking them in-house.

Peter B

The attention to detail here was pleasurable to watch. Specifically the gentleman making the coffees. We ordered 2 coffees and a chamomile tea. The tea was loose leaf and he brewed it with a timer. After that he made others people's drinks. He did not poor our coffee. I was initially I was concerned the coffee bit of our order was lost in communication. I watched him work at thought maybe he's timing the tea and the coffee to be ready at the same time. There was a bit of doubt that that was the case only because it's rare to see someone so thoughtful, especially over something as seemingly easy as a tea and coffee order. So, I watched. He finished making a few other drinks. Then the tea was ready. He removed the timer and the filter then added a bit of hot water. Then he swung to his left grabbed two coffee mugs and poured the remaining part of the order. I wanted to hug this guy. The thought and care he put into something as simple as a tea and coffee. Tons of respect for this person. If this is the consistent culture cultivated by Tartine I will always recommend it and always stop by when I'm in the city.

My boyfriend love Tartine's big buttery & flaky croissants ($4.95). He craves it. The cinnamon pastry was ok but nothing special. The 4" blueberry almond cheese danish ($7.50) wasn't worth it. It had too much blueberry flavor & not enough sweet cheese flavor to balance it. Also, they mixed the almonds in it instead of putting it on top (not toasty). It was also hard flaky instead of lightly flaky (overbaked or not fresh). Their regular coffee ($3.50) was pretty good. Cappuccino was kind of sour. I think their stuff are way overpriced. Our bill came out to be $28 for 3 pastries & 2 coffee. We might only come once in awhile for their coffee & croissant but if we find another location that has as good of a croissant at a lower price, we will probably not come here anymore.

Xiaoxiao Gao

The banana pie is amazing! And the pastrami sandwich is definitely worth a try. The pickled carrots that came with the sandwich is surprisingly good. Crunchy, sour, and spicy. A perfect combination with the savory sandwich.

Kasey Steendam

Delicious! Ordered the almond croissant, ham and cheese croissant, and the savory scone. Line was a bit long but well worth it. We walked a few blocks to Delores Park. Highly recommend.

Hell's Kitchen Kritter and Friends

Quaint and friendly bakery. Fresh bread comes out at 3pm. Staff was very helpful and welcoming.

Sarah Richards

Absolutely delicious! I usually come for the chocolate croissant but sometimes I splurge on a latte! Very good as well :) Be prepared though, sometimes the line can be quite long!

William Townsend

Unbelievable ham and cheese croissant ... worth the wait!

Kelly Karst

Lovely bakery. Prepare to stand in line and perhaps wait for seating if you plan to dine in. The classic Morning Bun was exquisite. I overheard someone say that was "the best croque monsieur I've ever had."

Ravi Ravishankar

Wow - easily the best bakery! The sandwiches are excellent as well. If you want to avoid sugar, the savory scone is delicious! Long wait though unless you get there as soon as they open. Highly Recommended!

Gavin Haynes

Jesus what a good pastry shop. Must go.

Chris Geronimo Seeh

When a friend of mine heard that I will go to San Francisco she told me to go to Tartine Bakery and order a morning bun it would blow my mind especially as I like cinnamon pastries. A recommendation for delicious food? Let's go! The place does not look very special from outside but the morning bun, oh my God! The taste of cinnamon with a hint of orange zest... And not too dry not too moist, just perfect.

Forrest St.Laurent

I miss Tartine dearly now that I’m no longer in San Francisco. It’s arguably the best bakery in the city. Traditional desserts and bread of the highest quality and flavor. If you’re able to, treat yourself to something nice and tip the lovely staff

Kimberly Brown

Went to this bakery on a recommendation by a local. Absolutely amazing chocolate croissant! I also got the corn and squash quiche that was fantastic as well. Line was long but moved quickly. The staff was very friendly as well. Highly recommend.

Omega Rae

This place is always lovely! One of my favorite places to stop by. The baked goods are so yummy and there are so many choices. It's worth the wait, unless the line is down the block, if you're visiting I would probably stick it out tho. The service is wonderful and very knowledgeable about the different items they serve. Probably not where I would go if I just wanted a coffee but a wonderful lunch spot.

Shane Griffiths

I heard to get here early because there's a line out the door, but we came at 10am with a short line and a huge selection. The (Grourere?) was amazing, with a hollowed our inside, crispy crust and delicate flavor. The orange morning roll was also incredible, with a nice texture and flavor. Well worth the price.

Silvia Colombo

This place was a bit out of the way for me but it was BEYOND worth the trip! It doesn't look like much from the outside and you might just miss it were it not for the amazing smell calling you in. Be prepared to wait a while in the queue as tourists and locals know about the bakery. In short, this spot is well deserving of its reputation.

Lizzy Wallin

I don't know how many of you also struggle to find the right flaky crust to soft inside ratio for croissants, but this is one of the only places in the city that does it right. I also ordered a latte and it seemed to have come in a bowl...not sure if I really needed that much latte but I still appreciated their dedication to caffeination. Be ready to wait for like 30 minutes for a pastry and coffee, but I'd say it's worth the hype.

Karen Zellers

I love a good bakery as much as anyone, but Tartine is overrated. When I first came in, I was impressed by the variety. They have multiple varieties of coffee, bread, and sandwiches, in addition to pastries. However, this variety is completely counteracted by the price. Each item here was heavily marked up and, quite frankly, it wasn’t worth it. I tried the chocolate croissant and the pumpkin bread. Both were good. I don’t have any complaints. However, when you pay $6 for a croissant, you expect to be wowed.

Laurie Smith

Long line. Great cakes, and coffee. A real macchiato!

Simone Reed

Super tasty pastries that they have in stock. Everything here is high quality flavor.

Chey O.

I'm a strong believer in the old saying, "you eat with your eyes." I think whoever came up with that phrase had Tartine in mind. I honestly don't know if I've ever seen such beautiful pastries. Specifically, the CROISSANTS! I'm not at all a fan of croissants (I know, I know...), but the Tartine ones are almost too pretty to eat. That goes for their sweets as well! I had the lemon cream tart (about $8); it's the perfect pastry that you can share or just devour on your own. I also tried their savory scone, which came with homemade preserves. GET THE PRESERVES. You really can't go wrong with any of the items here. Pro-tip: Go on a weekday late morning; there's practically no line!

Nicole

Get here early to reduce the wait! The savory scone is my favorite.

Sabrina Constans

Pain au Chocolat the size of your head. Airy, fluffy pastry and good coffee. The Morning Bun will start your day off right. I found taste to be very Americanized, YMMV. Still, would recommend.

Dashon Burton

The only question here: is it a great bakery, or the greatest bakery? This question has stumped all of our greatest philosophers, since time immemorial. Upon eating his first croissant, Plato himself fell silent and, dumbfounded, exclaimed, "Eureka, I have found a delicious treat. May I have a Triple, Venti, Half Sweet, Non-Fat, Caramel Macchiato with which to wash down this delectable comestible?" I walked him to the nearest Starbucks, and then immediately returned to Tartine, for it is that good.

Iris W

Simply the best. Worth the line every time.

Chase Inform

Been here twice now in my visits to SF. It's worth experiencing. The pastries didn't remind me so much of my eating experiences in Paris but it was well worth the effort to taste the items. The desserts are beautifully prepared and displayed. Very appealing to the senses. The desserts and other items on display are something to behold!! A line (of ppl) forms frequently at this place so be prepared. I will go back! (I waited about 15 to 20 minutes in line around 1500 hours on a holiday weekend after a parade had recently finished nearby.) The sandwiches looked scrumptious and our server at the table went above and beyond. He made our experience worthwhile and intensified our wish to come back. Kudos to him! Additionally, Tartine is in the Mission District. This location has some of the most picturesque murals I've ever seen. Tartine and the Mission District area we visited are worth the trip! Recommend immensely... Going back... Oh yeah already said this.

Katie Yamada

Wow. Easily the best croissant I've ever had. The line was a bit ridiculous and it moves incredibly slow (it was a Saturday morning, so I think everyone had the same idea we had). I think we got a little carried away in attempting to essentially purchase almost one of every pastry, but it was well worth it. The quiche was delicious, you could tell that the crust was homemade and was cooked to perfection. The pastries were unbelievable, I expected they'd be good but the croissants literally tasted like butter, while maintaining such a beautiful, flaky texture (as someone who's baked croissants before, I have a much greater respect for people who do this well). The coffee was made at a separate counter and also did not disappoint. The shop is rather small, and some of the tables get in the way of the line, and the line gets in the way of utensil/water area. I imagine it wasn't designed to handle the massive crowds that it attracts.... wish they'd take some of their profits and expand the place a little, because it's just not meant to handle the amount of people who visit their shop everyday. I also love that you can look into the kitchen in the back and watch the pastry chefs, live, make all the delicious food at the counter. Highly recommend for a pastry and a coffee.

Toots78

Bread was incredible - way better in my opinion than Acme and can’t even be compared to Boudin. The pastries though - somehow I was expecting something better. Maybe it was also that we got there around 4PM and there was not really much to choose from.

Mark Johnson

Everything I got was great. I happened by when there wasn't a line, but apparently there is usually a wait. Plan for it, and know it's worth waiting.

Abraham deAlba-Avila

Famous sourdough by excellent book writer, they even had a Spelt loaf !

martha c

Such beautiful pastries. I like that they use restraint with sugar so the pastries are balanced and not to sweet. Definitely worth the wait if there is a line...

Ayako Hasegawa

One of the best ham and cheese sandwich I’ve ever had. The operation for the order could be improved though...but can’t be blamed, because it’s so popular.

Taeko Franklin

One of the best bakeries in San Francisco, let alone the state. Get here early, or risk waiting in a long line. Everything here is good, whether for a quick coffee and pastry to a sit down lunch. Be prepared to deal with long lines and crowds either way, but enjoy some of the best San Francisco to offer.

Eric Young

This place has been listed as one of the top ten bakeries for several years and it has maintained that position based on the quality of what the do. Their sandwiches are just as amazing as thier pastries. So don't let the line discourage you from giving them a try. And yes, there's several great bakeries in San Francisco and this is one of those places.

Yujeong S

I love banana cream tart in here. A heavenly banana, caramel and chocolate concoction♥️

Amey K

Enjoyed their lemon tart and bread pudding

Fabricio Solano

Unfortunately, I came to this place without time. I had to catch a plane and there was too many people in line. This is a famous bakery that I wanted to try for years and I live in Costa Rica. The smell was marvelous the pastry looked beautiful. I am sure it must be good but I can comment on it

Parthiv M

Everything at Tartine Bakery is out of this world, be it a lemon bar or lemon cream tart, be it their bread or hot pressed sandwiches. However, my most and all time favorite item here, is their Tres Leches cake. Try it here and you will not want to eat it anywhere else.

Matthew Holladay

Yes, this place is worth it! Everything from pastries/desserts to their sandwiches are incredible. I ordered the spicy turkey sandwich and it is by far the best I have had. The bread definitely makes it the best. Watch their video on Vimeo to get an understanding of their process and appreciate your experience even more.

himani wadhwa

I thought it was good without being great! Had a croissant and a croque monsieur. The croissant unfortunately did not live upto the hype. I enjoyed the croque monsieur.

Theo

Amazing bakery. A 15 minute wait but it's worth it. Their food is so good and even better then the France ones.

Michelle

It's not fair how good these baked goods are. I went in during closing time and grabbed a lemon meringue cake slice because it was one of the few things left. I wasn't even sure if I liked meringue, but wow, it blew me away. Even a slice of probably not-so-fresh cake was delicious, moist, and full of the perfect amount of sweetness and zest. I went back the last day to get some famed country bread and pastries. Even a day later, the croissants were flaky and top-notch. And again, I'm not even a huge croissant fan. 5 stars all the way. Don't be intimated by the huge line. It moves fast.

Kat Finnigan

Beautiful and delicious bakery! It smells SOO good in here and LOVE the bakery feel. Delicious pastries! Starbucks do not do them justice! But the main bakery is to die for

Shivani Kaw

Ordered the chocolate souffle cake and eclair. The cake was so rich and yummy, yet not too sweet. Will be back to try other pastries.

P Avari

Some places are more hype and less substance. Tons of amazing reviews and recommendations got us to try it out. We had time for a quick bite and chose ‘brioche bread pudding’. What we got for $5.99 plus $2 as tip should have been labeled as ‘half a cup of squishy banana strips with some bread pudding at the base of the cup, probably made with brioche bread.’ Perhaps they have great sandwiches and some of their other desserts look good too (although the pain au chocolat looked over baked).

Cynthia

Be prepared to wait! But it's indeed worth it. The tart shells here are so good--especially when paired with bavarian cream and fresh fruit. That being said, the main draw for me is the croissants which have strong distinguished layers you can taste because of the extreme flakiness and crunch you experience upon every bite. That being said though, sometimes the quality of the croissants vary so quality does seem to fluctuate a bit.

Dennis W.

This has got to be one of our all-time favorite bakeries.... The quality of the food is bar none, even compared with the best bakeries in Europe. Every time we come back to SF, we have to make a trip to Tartine.... The neighborhood has gotten a little better, but still maintains it's independent and gritty vibe. The baked goods are the Stars here, and you should definitely get here earlier during the day if you want the best selections, as they do sell out. And expect long lines. Service is ok.... Depends on who you get to assist you.

Kate B

One of the best bakeries anywhere! Yes the line looks intimidating but it moves quite fast--honestly. Once you get inside and get to lay your eyes on the amazing selection of pastries, cakes, croissants and bread you will forget about how long you waited. Try the Morning Bun --you won't be disappointed!

Eric Khun

I was just following my friend there on a Wednesday morning. I'm from France so do not expect too much from a bakery, but wanted to check what was the hype about that bakery. Line move quite fast. I was tempted by the "morning bun", a kind of croissant with cinnamon and orange zest. Was definitely mind blown with the perfect crispiness it had on the outside, and how the inside mixture was meltting inside my mouth. Highly recommend it. Also has a great coffee latte ☕. A bit pricey though.

Houston Searcy

A bit of a line but it was worth the wait for the delicious sandwiches and baked goods that we had. I see what all the hype is about.

Renato

What can you say, it is a world class bakery. The pain au jambon was exquisite....light, flaky croissant with a crunchy texture, delicious ham, gruyere with subtle peppery spice notes. Yum yum

James Elsto

Tartine Bakery , THE BEST ! I'm truly in love with this place. Though , they have quite a varied menu , but their banana pie and walnut pie are worth making a note. They are so good. And this place provides exquisite service.

Nancy Ly

Lemon tarts are the best thing ever. Other desserts like the eclair, chocolate tart, large cookie, chocolate croissant were just meh. But I don't come here for those other items! If you go a bit after they open, particularly on a Saturday, the line is not actually too bad at all. I wait 5 minutes to order. They're quick!

Philip Crean

Hype is real. Place is good.

Olivier Manhattan

You quickly understand why this place is a local institution. Pastries are delicious, cakes are beautiful, bread is crusty and fluffy. Lemon tart is creamy and melts in your mouth. Croissants and chocolate croissants are these big but delicate balls of... happiness. Perfect shape, texture, and taste - a real treat.

Johnny Chang

The original is still the best. The LA location does not even come close to the quality from this kitchen. Tartine bakery croissant is what I will ask/think of on my death bed.

Dan Morgenstern

I was there only to try the famous pastries and chose the lemon cream tart, which was very good but nothing out of this world, pricey though ($9 for a mini tart)

Sayali Tungare

Lovvvveddd this place!! Was here for breakfast, and as expected there was a long queue outside the place. But what we ate made it worth the wait! We had the chocolate croissant, banana cream tart and the morning bun with their latte. The croissant was so flaky and the dark chocolate inside it was so decadent! The morning bun is something I would love to eat every morning, with right amount of sweetness, cinnamon and orange zest in it. The banana cream tart was super delicious, again not too sweet.

Natty Coleman

I love the croissants and sandwiches and bread! Always feel like I am putting the staff out though, so not a great vibe, though with that many people I get it.

Alice Noelle

High quality, high end bakery. Limited seating. Plan to take your stuff to go, maybe to eat at Dolores Park up the street.

TammyT

Had cafe late, chocolate croissant, coconut cream tart and passion fruit bavarian cake. All 4 items costed $26.98. Was recommend this place from a friend. Possibly its good for brunch food? There is definitely a huge line to buy. I'm just not a fan of long lines, 20 minutes wait for overpriced items.

Shelley Hall

My favorite place to get sweets! Lemon cake...the best! These sweets always remind me of down south authentic baking! Made with love or at least that's what I like to think!!

andy tran

A great bakery to try out.

Guy Gibbs

Everybody at this place is so cheerful and lively. I absolutely love this happy vibe place. Their desserts are really fantastic. I'm very fond of this place. In fact, everybody in my family loves the stuff got from them. Thanks Tartine Bakery for such good food.

David Pellouchoud

Long queue but moves somewhat quickly.

Maggie McManus

I love this bakery. I come every time I'm in the Bay Area, and I've purchased all of their cookbooks. There isn't one bad thing I can say about the bakery. Ok, there is ONE bad thing. The line can be long at times, as with any quality establishment. Everything here is delicious, so you cannot go wrong. My ABSOLUTE FAVORITES are the soft gingerbread cookie (not pictured), the lemon square (sweet and tart, with a buttery crust), and the coconut cream tart. Definitely get something to eat there, and some snacks to bring home - you won't regret it.

Helen Leung

This neighborhood favorite is packed as usual, so I could only purchase to-go. The croissant/pastries in the glass display all looked very good, but the color overall looked a little dark to me (but maybe the local customer like it that way?). I purchased half a Whole Wheat Sesame loaf to enjoy at home; the color was also a little dark, but it was very good—very crusty on the outside but very soft on the inside, with the aroma of sesame in every bite! I also got a croissant with very good lamination. Too bad I didn't have a chance to try their sweets and pastries or coffee, nor could I wait until their baguettes are out in the PM—that will be my mission in the next visit!

Toni B.

This is a must visit. My first time there and i feel in LOVE !

Bjorn K.

Great quality bakery (european style). An absolute gem in San Francisco. You must taste the morning bun with a nice cup of cappuccino. There mostly is a long line outside, but it is worth the wait. Staff is not super friendly but ok.

Dan Chen

The is the original Tartine Bakery, the Mecca of bake goods. They have wonderful selection of pastries but their bread is where it’s at, it’s is amazing ! However they only start selling it around 3:30? Warning, once you eat here, you might have much higher standards for pastry and bread.

Naomi Fogel

Finally made the pilgrimage! A fair wait but the croque monsieur was delicious and so was the croissant. Wish I could’ve tried everything! As a traveller not practical to buy a sourdough loaf unfortunately.

Ray Zhong

The quiche with tomato and ham is really tasty!Highly recommend. The lemon tart is good too

Kevin Lo

Best chocolate chip cookies ever!!!!!!!! Insanely thin and crunchy, they are basically crack. I love getting a couple and walking over to Samovar to enjoy them with their chai (make sure to get a few, they might not make it all the way there). Also be sure to try their coconut cream pie, morning buns and any or every laminated dough pastry!

Curtis Layne

Everything at Tartine is to die for. I generally don't like sweets and desserts but I LOVE everything I've tried here. My favorite so far is the coconut cream tart, highly recommend it! There's usually a long line but it moves quickly. You won't wait more than 15 minutes.

Rodrigo Lopes

The food is really good. The best croissant ever. The bad is waiting in the long line and not explained things. They receive a lot of tourists but don't explain or present the products, so my tip is, ask everything. Furthermore, they need to speed up, stay in line 10 to 15 minutes to get a croissant isn't good. The country bread toast with butter and jam is unbelievable.

L Lee

Love Tartine's. Can't find anything I don't like here. Banana cream pie, outstanding. Actually all their desserts are outstanding. Pizza bread is very good.too. Lines are usually out the door.

Victor V

always happy to walk in to a bakery & know you gonna love anything you buy... the sweets here are amazing, the taste always fresh, the quality amazing, the fruits always fresh, the people offer a friendly environment & a great place to enjoy a piece of cake.....

Arbana Grembi

The bakery was great and I loved their pastries except for the line. The weather was amazing so seating outside and enjoying my chocolate hazelnut tarte with a cup of cappuccino post Moma was the ideal afternoon. The waiting in the line is the only bit that I wasn’t super happy about but i understand that this is a SF popular thing to do

Don Hall

Not positively impressed. The cappuccinos were weak. The poppy seed cake over sweet. The sandwiches way too greasy. We won't be eating here again. Oh, and the music much too loud.

Davis Turner

The long lines epitomizes Tartine. Amazing pastries, especially the morning buns, and the atmosphere rocks!

Warren Moreland

Best bakery in San Francisco in my opinion. Sweets are in perfect level of sweetness and moist. I'm so in love with this place. There is so much of variety and there's truly no flavor that is not prepared by this bakery. A little pricey but quality of the food is top notch.

Cariza Sy

Their pastries are great and service was fine. You can't expect great service at an always busy place.

Max Schwaner

Superb! I'd normally have to try to be more critical when a coffee and croissant costs me 17 bucks. They knocked it out of the park however. Great vibe, pastries, aromas, and experience. Friendly staff and I was enjoying the music selection as well.

Ajna Kenning

Their coffees went bad. Pastry for that price not enjoyable anymore. Not bad but don't worth the long line and money

Max Hufnagel

The best morning buns!

GreekGirlinLove S

We waited in line for an hour for a few croissants. The tables and restaurant were so dirty. Lattes were nice. Croissants were over cooked. Not worth the wait.

Eliza Grace

Be ready for a wait- but we’ll worth it! Make sure to take some bread home with you. The morning buns are to die for

Hamala Makala

It’s actually rare for me to try freshly baked bread. Definitely a treat trying the baguettes and the sourdough bread here. Was only able to try the almond croissant but they were all a treat to have. Parking as usual is difficult but worth the try after you find a spot.

Bernardo Villapudua

They were out of croissants so I was able to try their most popular items. Has a ham quiche and was average. Also tried their crumb cake but was a little disappointed, had somewhat of a cornbread taste. Will definitely be back to try the croissants though.

Guillaume Rostaing

Not bad but incredibly overrated. Not worth the ridiculous price tag. Go to Paris for real pastries.

Cheryl Garcia

You will have to wait here usually as they deliver good food and it was baked fresh daily. I like the pastries and bread here. I am satisfied with their stuff and their service.

Gerald Winsor

I wish i had an option to give some additional stars. I am definitely a dessert lover , but the pancakes i got at this place were amazing. They were the fluffiest pancakes i ever had. Friendly and fast service. I'm fond of this place. Thank You Tartine Bakery for the fantastic food.

Joshua Cook

Incredible pastries, especially the Morning Bun. Croque Monsieur is also a must when visiting. Baristas know how to make good coffee too!

Anzela Niraula

As a sourdough bread enthusiast, I visited this place as part of my bread pilgrimage. Words can't do justice to the magic of their sourdough! Can't wait to be back again. They do a great job with their pastries and cakes too! Love Tartine so much! The perpetual long line of customers is there for a good reason!

Oliver Grant

There's little I can say that hasn't already been said but please go and experience this food. Really delicious stuff, with some classic flavour combinations. I didn't think an edgy bakery could exist, but this is the place, with some clear passion and positive attitude towards their creations. Not to be missed.

Great service. Good coffee and nice sandwich. The bread I took home was heavenly!!!! The stuff is great with handling the croud. You will be lucky to find a place to sit :) But it is worth waiting/take to the park/join other pepole table..

Rohan Kapuria

I think this place is hyped. The croissant was just average. Try banana or coconut tarts.. they are good...

Everything we ordered was fantastic!I love this bakery.

Jeanne Armstrong

The best croissants, and the bananna pie is a must have.

Eun Kim

Self-complacent and lazy clerks, repititive old Daft Funk songs and over priced food. The chocolate croissants and the banana cream tart were good, but nothing special. Americano was served in a really small cup!! The amount was just less than a half of a common coffee. Not sophisticated, not urban and, above all, not San Francisco.

linda lavelle

Delicious fresh food made daily. The menu is never the same and the quality is outstanding

Adam Sheveland

Yes! Go to here! Amazing baked goods. Don't be afraid of the lines out the door, they move quick. Long lines usually mean food is worth the wait

Jeff Moffat

Absolutely delicious! It's cramped inside, it was hard to get around with a small stroller, but the pastries are incredible.

Vibhu Rathee

The baked items are good. The buzz around it exceeds the quality far more. If you are around don't miss it for it won't be disappointing at all but neither will it be something that will sweep you off your feet. Mostly arrogant staff that do not give any suggestions and expect you to know what you are buying and want the line to keep moving.

Rich Bromberg

We were wandering through the Mission with a friend, who suggested we stop at Tartine for coffee. What a great place - incredible pastries! And my timing was perfect for watching one of the bakers working the ovens. Nice enough to give me a few tips on baking sour dough bread.

Tessa Graham

When the smell of freshly baked bread hits your senses while walking down the street, you have no other choice but to stop. I was told that the line gets rather long, but thankfully it wasn't too bad when I visited on a weekday. It's a small space, so you're lucky if you get a table on crowded days. I tried the croissant and it was full of buttery, flaky goodness. The walnut bread is also fantastic. I wanted to try a hot-pressed sandwich, but not of the options were appealing to me (I don't eat meat and certain cheeses). Lots of delicious goodness was being sold. I'll have to go back another time.

John-Jose Nunez

Popularity has got to their head. 'run out' of the items they're famous for half way through the day. Typical keeping supply low to build hype,a la cronuts. Might be awesome but I won't have a chance to know

Jenny Skrenes

A wide selection of delicious treats and great espresso drinks! Very popular/crowded.

Kevin Jaskela

There is always a line at this place, especially in the beginning of the day when orders are piping hot and fresh beyond belief. I have had a few pastries and baked goods in my life but this has to be some of the best I've ever had. Definitely a close runner up to the likes of Paris bakeries. I'd grab a couple treats and enjoy one outside in Dolores park if no seats are available. Then you can enjoy your second in the comforts of your home as an after dinner delight.

Ernie P.

Pastries are yummy! Worth making the trip at least once and you may find yourself going back if you live nearby or have a long stay. Not easy to get to, you could take public transportation as I did. The BART gets you close, but the bus didn't run that often on Sundays, so a half mile walk slightly be uphill then flat and a slightly rougher part of town. The line was out the door and hour after opening, but the wait from about a dozen from the door to the counter was about 20 minutes as there were 3 people behind the counter. They will do take out, but don't wait too long to eat them. The pastries we're great! The croissant and morning bun were extremely flaky, crispy, and buttery, with an outstanding chocolate inside. The bread pudding was moist with fresh fruits on top and was good. The chocolate hazelnut tart was very deep and rich. Wanted a loaf of bread, but shipment hadn't arrived yet. Overall, not easy to get to (take a cab - about $5, or ride share from BART or Metro Train), but worth the effort!

Paul Southern

There’s a line for a reason. Everything here is legit. When I was doing research on how to make my own sourdough, I found the ancient secret and a reference to Tartine. They make sourdough like the Frenchies did before they put Louie & Maria’s to the guillotine. Local airborne yeast, flour, water, salt. So this was on my bucket list and it didn’t disappoint.

Catherine Vasquez

Delicious! Evething we had was fantastic. The croque mounsieur, croissant, quiche.. you can't go wrong with anything you order.

Adelina Radu

We had 2 chocolate cakes: one (the mousse one) was good, the other could be improved in terms of flavor (although my bf liked it). The service was slow and it's one of these places where you have to clean after yourself and even place your dishes in separate containers after paying for service charge?! Happy to clean if I'm not tipping!

Leo Noya

Only had the ham and cheese croissants and they are arguably the best I've ever had.

Louise Jenni

This little place is as yummy as it is cute. Perfect drinks, vibrant service, and a selection of breakfast toasts that are innovative without being too complicated. Lots of local foot traffic and regulars are no surprise for this gem of a cafe. No matter where you live in the city, this place is worth the visit.

Heidi Kato

Must try the Almond Frangipane croissant and whichever quiche option is on offer that day! Well worth the 15-minute wait to make it to the counter. This is a must-visit bakery!

Brandon Everett

I got a Country loaf fresh out of the oven at 3:30 along with a coconut and banana cream tart. Everything is great and dont worry the line moves fast. The employees are always super helpful.

Tommy Hughes

This is where you get real pastries, the line is worth the wait. The best of the best

Justin Su

Absolutely fantastic bakery with a wide variety of baked goods. The lines get a bit long, especially on the weekends, but the wait is definitely worth it. The morning bun is a staple here; it's sweet with a hint of cinnamon and just the right level of sticky and chewy. Would definitely recommend a visit!

Josh Montero

Usually a wait, but always worth it. I am a diabetic and very rarely get to have anything sweet, so when I am able I want to make sure it's worth it. Tartine always is. They make the most unbelievable croissants and even something as simple as shortbread cookies are the best I have ever had. Always bring a few things home to share and never had anyone disappointed.

Jennifer Michels

How could one not love Tartine bakery? It's truly one of the best bakeries in all the Bay area. If you love bread, try the sesame loaf. The sweets are amazing too. The best of the best!!

Aaron Flint

Exceptionally well managed. Quality of food is on point and staff is extremely friendly. Well worth the wait.

Sugi Panneerselvam

Everything we ordered was fantastic! We got the passion fruit coconut cake, which is tart yet sweet and very refreshing on a hot day, a slice of the lemon meringue, and the hazelnut tart. Highly recommend all three as well as a loaf of the sesame bread. A bit pricey, but the taste can't compare!

Tabitha Popescu

excellent bakery- a must try in san francisco
