This Bakery corresponds to the category of Chinese restaurant.
This place is amazing. Top 5 favorite restaurants in town. I love everything on the menue. Definitely try one of the coconut rolls or custard buns for dessert.
Wow!!! Great flavor and portions. Quick service. First time visiting and will return before heading back to the Lower 48.
Food overall 4, dim sum 3.5; dim sum is made to order. See the menu, it's slightly limited but perfect for a quick bite.
The best Asian cuisine ever!
Amazing Chinese Szechuan food!
The food is always great, and so is the service. I always end up spending too much money but it's worth it. Their baked goods are ah-mazing!
Great food for lunch
Probably the best Chinese food I have had in Anchorage. This will be my new go to. Wish they delivered though.
A lot of things yummy to try around there!
Best Chinese Food in Anchorage
Good food, busy around lunch but worth it.
OMG, the spicy beef soup is worth waiting in line for as are the pork buns and the vegetable buns. Did I mention the beef soup?
It is not fancy, but it is really good food. Very helpful staff as well if you're not sure what to order.
This place is awesome. Delicious food, great service, great portions. It’s good, just go check it out for yourself!
Decent selection and service. Sui mai was underwhelming. Bland and no noticeable shrimp. Szechuan wontons were good. Overall not bad for the price- beef noodle soup seemed to be the crowd favorite.
This is a top notch Chinese restaurant! I always have their fresh made custard buns, and they are always delicious. All the dishes I have eaten here feel authentic and are made with quality ingredients. Excellent food with fast service, even when it is busy.
Best cakes ever!!! If you have not tried their cakes!! I encourage you it will take you to heaven. Food is good too!! As well, the dumplings!!!!
Great baked goods
Great Chinese food and service. Awesome bakery.
Good food, fast service.
Very delicious food, nice atmosphere, though it's small inside. A better place to grab and go than to sit in to eat. I love that their menu is pictures of the plates and very convenient 'sold out' label when they are. They also have displays of their beautiful cakes, and I love their bread display.
This place is amazing. Top 5 favorite restaurants in town. I love everything on the menue. Definitely try one of the coconut rolls or custard buns for dessert.
Great food.
Wow!!! Great flavor and portions. Quick service. First time visiting and will return before heading back to the Lower 48.
The rumors are true. Great food, great prices!
Everything here is exceptional. Even their classic white bread is the best I've ever had. Buy anything you want, you wont be disappointed.
The best place
Delicious food, delightful baked goods, and a traditional-style approach to Chinese food. My family has visited this restaurant for years and it doesn't disappoint. Sometimes we just stop in just to get some Pineapple cheese cake or a few slices of Boston cream pie (and always a jelly roll!) for special occasions. The menu is huge, but it would be nice to see some new items occasionally rotated into the baked goods selections. While its reassuring to have old favorites constantly available, a rotating special would be great.
The braised beef noodles we just like the ones we had in Beijing only with better quality beef. Good dumplings, though they'd been a little oversteamed and we're falling apart a bit. Loved the beef noodles with bok choy. The bakery items looked like what we'd had in China, which isn't my idea of great pastry because they're without a lot of substance, but absolutey love their coconut rolls with are the exception.
The food was delicious and the baked goods absolutely phenomenal. It is in a weird, but easy to spot, location. The server was incredibly nice and helpful. And we had leftovers that were just as good reheated.
Best cake IN THE WORLD.
The thing that caught my attention most upon entering into Charlie’s Bakery was the massive menu that is displayed. There is a vibrant, professional photo of each item on the menu. What is Szechuan style spicy won ton or Zha Jiang Mian (fried sauce noodles)? You can easily look at the photo menu and see how it actually looks before ordering. The photos looked great and I wanted to order a ton. I ordered the house fried rice, in addition to the pork/shrimp shu mai. It was good, though I do prefer fried rice very dry. However, the star was definitely the pork/shrimp shu mai. It tasted moist and very meaty. Very good. I’m interested to try out more of their dishes.
Always good.. busy place. Love their roasted duck, wish they could add it on daily menu (not only Saturday)
Not as good as it use to be. Still tasty.
Charlie's Bakery has delicious food at great prices! You won't be disappointed.
Love the food but the dining area could be better
Very good food had them Mongolian beef tender meat no gristle cooked perfect
By far the best Chinese food in Anchorage, the only place to get dim sum, or Saturday specials. There's generally a line for lunch, so plan a head. Also surprisingly fine French style baked goods. If you want generic American style Chinese food this is probably not the place to go, if you want steamed pork buns, or Saturday duck you're in luck
Very slow, no replacement of cakes if anything is wrong with it.
Just got take out, but it is really good
Really food and service. Had the sesame chicken and beef chow mein. The best I've had in town.
Best in town. Just good compared to the lower 48 but it's what we have
Charlies Bakery has been blessed by the almighty chef GODS. Love this place and recommend it to all!
Absolutely love this place. It is a true diamond in the rough. By far some of the best Asian cuisine I've ever eaten in alaska. Everyone I bring here falls in love. The sesame chicken is the best I've ever had in Anchorage hands down
This place was packed when we went and we could tell why. The dim sum menu had lots of options and we were very impressed with the food. The dumplings were good, as was the baby bok choy, but the star of the show was the steamed bun. Parking was pretty easy, but one inside there was a short line to order and then the were only one or two tables open. We came at lunch time on Saturday.
Best steamed pork buns!!!!
$3 chicken and vegetable filled bread is so yummy. They have many neat discounted items on Saturdays. Go try some chicken feet, very unique. Yummy sweet teriyaki type sauce. The ginger chicken is great.
One of the best Chinese restaurants in Anchorage. Excellent food and a great bakery to boot.
First time to Anchorage and wanted to try out some dim sum and was told this is a better one in town. I do miss the experience of having to pick the dim sum out of steaming cart. We ordered a few basic dishes: siu mai, bean curd roll, gyoza. Kung pao shrimps, Mongolian beef and house fried rice. The service was fast and within 10 minutes foods started coming. Fried rice has a nice v wok aroma and not wet. Shrimps were spicy but nicely flavored. Mongolian beef was not overly tenderized like some other places. I did find the dishes are a bit saltier here. The dim sums were good though not the best I have had. 6 of 10 in my humble opinion. I will definitely go back for a quick Chinese food while in the area.
Everytime i place an order there on doordash its always late and the doordashers have to order it themselfs and wait for the ordear to be ready 20 or 30 minutes have passed and the doordasher is wasting their time and money waiting for my food and the staff are so rude to customers.
the food is always good, but saturday’s can be especially crazy before 3 for dim sum...people want to get them, especially duck and hot and sour soup, before they run out.
Didn't like it. Sauces were a bit too sweet for me. Other people like it, not my cup of tea. They need more tables.
Best Chinese food in Anchorage I love there crab Rangoon
Love the cake delicious
The food is always wonderful . If you want the best pork chop in town, this is it. Also their cakes are light and not too sweet. Service is on par.
Chicken curry puffs. Dim sum. Steam buns. Yesssssss sir!
This place is legit. I love the cake and beef stir fried with sheet rice. Reasonably priced.
We love this place. We have been coming here for many years. We love the food. I love the beef rice noodles and the wife loves the house fried rice. We have never had a bad meal. Of course there are the cakes and breads. My wife's work as well as our family and friends order the cakes for all occasions. Keep it up.
Best Chinese in Anchorage. Great shrimp dumplings. Come early to get a table as it's often packed for lunch!
The BEST Chinese food in town. Authentic and not mass produced menu stuff you can get elsewhere. This is legit good.
The spicy dumplings are my favorite & I love their fried pork chops!!
You can tell why it's a neighborhood favorite as soon as the smell wafts through the doors when entering. Authentic, not Americanized, and so good. Just like my Asian grandma made it.
As if being one of only authentic Chinese restaurants wasn't enough, Charlie's thought they should make fantastic cakes at the same time
Great food. Best BBQ buns ever. A must try.
Fast service and great food
We use to drive, to the Bay Area, Cina Town from Sacramento, CA, just to get Authentic food. Charlie's Bakery here in AnchorageReal good food and bakery anything you want. Wait time is very short. Very busy but fast. Let me know if you did not like it I will take my post down.
The stuffed rolls here are wonderful, they've got pork, ham and cheese, cheeseburger and pizza rolls, all amazing! The other Chinese style food is worth the wait if you're dining in.
Charlie's is the best food I've had in Anchorage
Omg....this was really good!
Excellent food, and excellent service. Yummy, yummy. Who would've known there was actual dim sum available here in Anchorage? Finally stopped be here, and it was an all-around excellent experience. If you enjoy dim sum, you cannot pass up Charlie's Bakery and Chinese.
Great food.
Good
Great food very nice atmosphere
By far the best Chinese food in Anchorage, the only place to get dim sum, or Saturday specials. There's generally a line for lunch, so plan a head. Also surprisingly fine French style baked goods. If you want generic American style Chinese food this is probably not the place to go, if you want steamed pork buns, or Saturday duck you're in luck
Great dim sum, but limited selection. Sweet sesame balls are the BEST! Only available on Saturday and I recommend ordering some on Friday night. They run out early...
Clean, fast, friendly service. The red bean sweet bun was stuffed full and delicious! Pictures of food on the menu board are pictured as served, so fresh and good! They had gorgeous cakes and several desserts on display as well as fresh baked breads on the back wall.
Best dim-sum in Anchorage. On par with Chicago and San Francisco.
The pork buns are amazeballs! Trident everything here is just fantastic. I recently went on a Saturday afternoon and was glad I was getting to go. There were no seats! Ave the line when I showed up was out the door! I believe it's because of the special menu on Saturdays.
I love them. I went there on last moment to get a cake and bought vanilla cake everyone loved it in my work place. One the same day I also tried pastries for the first time I got some fresh pastries.
Food was cold, and portions extremely small. Wouldnt recommend.
Eat in, take out, or catered, Charlie's Bakery is the best Chinese in Anchorage
A great restaurant and wonderful place to eat. The curry was great and buns were awesome.
Always coming back for their cakes.
Dim sum heaven
The red hot chicken is amazing. The red peppers are pickled so they aren't dominating the spice, and you can eat the peppers without losing any flavor. Instant favorite. The upgrade to fried rice is worth every cent. Used to think the Mongolian beef and the sesame chicken were the best, now a nice memory of a good choice you can't go wrong with.
The best dim sum options around town and love the menu. Great customer service and it's a busy environment. Come prepared to bump elbows in trying to get a table on a busy weekend afternoon.
The inside is really minimal and sticky in some spots, but I can't fault the food at all. It was surprisingly good. They even have all the sauces I use as condiments available, which is unusual. Unfortunately they are unlabeled but with some sniffing and trial and error I was able to get the authentic taste I was after. I might order there and take it out.
Great Chineese food and bakery
Possibly the best Chinese food in town, I've never been in when they aren't crowded. If you go to late in the day they start to run out of things. I want tp try their cake, ot seems like they sell a lot of birthday cakes.
Love the Chinese food. Die for the baked goods.
Great place to eat. I highly recommend it.
Hands down the best Chinese food I have ever had. The food is fresh and taste great. My favorite so far is the red hot pepper chicken, I have also tried the fried rice very good. Keep up the great work.
Do you need great Chinese food and a sweet birthday cake? Are you getting married and only want to cater from one place, including the cake? Charlie's has got you covered.
Every visit the food is great. Be adventurous, they offer a lot and everything is good, if funky at times. Favorites include spicy shrimp wontons, asparagus chicken, pork shumai, sticky rice. If you want a treat have a cream bun. So good. The stuffed bread options are also great. As are the cakes, cinnamon bread and regular bread. There is no direct service, order get something to drink and wait. No need to bus your stuff. If its busy just find a table when they open. Staff will clear tables quickly, but it does get busy so be patient.
If they served Roast Duck everyday, I'd give them 10 STARS!!! But all their other dishes are wonderful!!! I love eating here!!!
Great authentic food that reminded me of my year in China. Great service as well
Good food. Atmosphere isn't amazing though.
Very reasonably priced and in line with the usual Chinatown fare. The steamed bun wasn't bad and there is a chance I might come back for it. The xiaolongbao however was nothing like what you would find in Shanghai and the other dimsum we tried was even worse.
Ordered the pork fried rice came with a shrimp in it I do not like seafood or fish and the lady just picks it out and was like here got a other one tasted like fish
Best dim sum in anchorage! Love this place. Great service.
I went with my friend here for the first time and I was wonderfully blown away-- We had a 4 items on the dim sum menu (crystal dumpling, har gow, szechuan wontons, baby bok choy) and it was delicious! I will absolutely be going back and just as i do anytime I enjoy my food--I'm bringing someone with me so that they can enjoy it with me
A favorite Anchorage restaurant. Yummy dim sum. Yummy bakery.
The best Chinese food in Anchorage. They have menu items you can only get there. Barbecue eel anyone? Yum! While it's a basic cafeteria style place, I've been told by Chinese tourists it's the best Cantonese food outside of China.
Excellent Chinese food, delicious birthday cake. Happy 20th, son
The best Chinese food in town. So easily.
Always delicious food and quick service!
Best Chinese food in town. There is nothing on the menu I wouldn't consume. The bbq pork steamed bun is great!
Very very delicious food and nice staff
Clean and great food
Very tasty
Some of the best food in AK.
oldest son's 5th birthday cake came from charlies. great service. thank you !
The best dim sum options around town and love the menu. Great customer service and it's a busy environment. Come prepared to bump elbows in trying to get a table on a busy weekend afternoon.
Amazing dim sum and fantastic steam buns!
You know how you can tell if the place is good? When it's crowded everytime you go there. Their portion of food is just the right amount and the price is affordable. Their pastries are so scrumptious and their service is good. I only wish they had sauces like ketchup, Tabasco, and etc.
Great cakes!
The food is good, but baked goods are where it's at. If you have never had cake from a good bakery come here. I'm not a cake person, but the cake here is amazing.
Excellent bakery but the Asian food rocks too!
Best Asian food you’ll ever eat in Anchorage, hands down. Bakery items are amazing too. The service is always spot on. Charlies is worth your time and money.
Fantastic food!!! Great staff!!!
Came here unsure of what to expect, since it's a smaller side restaurant that could easily be overlooked. The food was amazing and the staff were beyond kind. My son was going to be adventurous with his order and she suggested he try s sample first (which, although I liked it, saved us money because my son was able to order something he preferred). Thanks and I hope to come back soon
Best Chinese food in Anchorage with decent Alaska prices. They also have a variety of baked goods to I include cakes, egg tarts, pork buns, etc.. love this place.
Good chinese food
We wanted something light, so tried the dumplings out here. The food was a bit surprising in a good way. The boiled dumplings were good, made with hand made skins and good filling. I would skip the dipping sauce they provided and go with the standard vinegar and soy sauce mix, along with a bit of chili oil. The Baby Bok Chou was a simple dish with very fresh vegetables. The steam pork dumplings (really buns) came 3 in a basket, and was pretty good. The red chili oil wontons were good too. Overall, surprising meal.
Super good food! So fun chinese food and tasty treats for after. Mmm
I love steamed buns pork and chicken sometimes they don't have them but I guess that means they're that good pretty good place to go and grab some authentic food.
Voted best Chinese food in Anchorage, by a Chinese dude originally from Socal. Try the scallion pancakes (savory) on the weekend, they have egg tarts as a desert that are awesome too!
Charlie's is a family run business, and they are welcoming. The food is good, consistent and they have unbelievable bake goods and cakes. If you want a birthday cake to impress family, friends or coworkers, go to Charlie's.
Amazing food! I love the dumplings. Fast and good prices.
I Loved it great place.
Great cake, a bit pricey
If you are looking for good portions this is the place. Tastes good too. We had house fried rice and beef chow mein. Too hungry to take the pics of the food
Great bakery goods, very good food. Don't waste your money elsewhere on Chinese food. Not fancy inside, but awesome chow.
Really good food
Best Chinese food in anchorage. Make sure to beat the rush cause this place is just that good. They also bake delicious cakes and assorted food stuffed buns, I recommend the red bean bun if you've never had it before.
Very good....
Top 3 Chinese restaurants in Alaska.
Good food. All Southern Chinese food. Wish they would be open on Sundays too it would be even better. I would give a 5 star then.
I can’t wait to get back for more of the Szechuan wontons!! They were my favorite item by far.
Great food
The rice noodles on the Saturday menu are delicious. Always busy so you may have to wait but so worth it.
Best chinese place in town, and the only place that sells Milk bread in loaves. They're the only ones to sell steam buns and all the portions are HUGE. Bring a friend to share. It's nice to eat alone but better is everyone is sharing food with eachother. The desserts aren't too sweet, which is nice. Not sugar filled. It's very much like how it is back in asia.
Delicious. Will be returning
Cool place, strange blend of options that make it fun. It was clearly a popular spot, and I will be going back again for a boba tea. I got the sesame chicken, and it was pretty good. First time I've ever gotten enough rice for the amount of chicken. The rice was nice a sticky, my husband got the fried rice and said it good but he wished his rice was stickier.
Great har gow and boiled dumplings! Service was great and timely. Prices were reasonable given serving size.
Chill joint for stuffing tastiness in your face The decor is practically nothing, but the staff are hard-working and FAST; everything I've ever ordered there is super tasty, it's a No-Frills Great Taste kind of food venue. No pretension, just large portions of all of our favorite pan-Pacific/Asian foods.
Great tasting menu items. I would suggest that the Soy Sauce bottles be made available on each table. Now the Soy Sauce bottles are all placed on the one table, requiring customers to make an individualized, return trip to that table to retrieve the Soy Sauce. And I have mobility problems.
The best Chinese food in Anchorage! Their buns are amazing! Especially the pork and chicken curry buns =)
Hello Charlie! Food was delicious. Had the pot stickers and sesame chicken. A little sauce bar has mustard, spicy and sweet sauces. The place was packed when I visited. Also saw lots of people ordering cakes but did not try the baked goods.
My favorite place to eat. My sister is a very picky eater, but she loves it too.
Food was cold and not filling on numerous occasions. Great bakery. But better Chinese at the Fly In restaurant.
If you are looking for good portions this is the place. Tastes good too. We had house fried rice and beef chow mein. Too hungry to take the pics of the food
We tried to eat here on 7/24 at 2:30. There was nowhere to sit because half of the tables needed to be cleared from previous customers. The place was filthy. Send health inspector. There was only one person in the front of house who was on the phone instead of helping. We left. There are a lot of Asian restaurants in Anchorage--find a different one.
Good food, reasonable prices, fast friendly service
Best Mongolian beef in all of Anchorage. Friendly staff and short waits. The pork buns are the icing on the cake.
Great bakery goods, very good food. Don't waste your money elsewhere on Chinese food. Not fancy inside, but awesome chow.
Very casual eatery with large portions of food. The Mongolian beef was especially good, with the other dishes we ordered very ordinary.
I had the Mongolian beef with steamed rice. First off the beef was extremely chewy and fatty. Possibly cheap beef second the rice was old and hard. Lastly there was a hair in my food. I went there to eat because of the good reviews but I was disappointed with the whole meal. If I could give no stars I would. Go elsewhere
Pretty good food at pretty good prices. Feels a little cafetera ish but the food is good. Good home baked breads and other treats.
Good food, fast, friendly service!
My friend found a bug in her salad
This is getting a 5-star when maybe it shouldn't...but read on... In my quest to be a better reviewer, I have made it a goal to always try the Hot and Sour Soup and Mongolian Beef at every Chinese restaurant I go to. What others order - who cares. The Mongolian Beef was great. Not perfect, because it lacked the crisp rice noodles I love from the best restaurants I have been to. The big draw-back is that they only do Hot and Sour Soup on Saturdays? Now, I'll never know if it is astounding...which it might be...but I'll never know! The staff were great, seating at busy lunch was easy, and the restrooms were clean. The other items we purchased were really good as well. Nothing was left uneaten by the time we snacked later in the evening.
Great food at good prices.
Seriously, wow. One of the little gems of Anchorage. From the name and look of the exterior of the building, you'd never expect to find such fantastic food inside. The beef and noodle soup is a must-try, and you can't leave without an order of steamed pork dumplings (see my attached pic). The baked goods don't disappoint either. I was in Anchorage on business, and I ate here more times than any other single location in town. It gets busy around lunch time, so get there a bit early if possible. 11:30 turned out well for me.
A great flavor. Delicious!
Terrific food, efficient service, beautiful baked goods, and Thai tea with BOBA! Checked all my boxes. Will definitely return.
Love there food and great Boston cream pie!
Really great food but had a bad experience. My bf orders here at least 3 times a week. In fact when he calls they already know his name without them asking. He ordered duck early on a Saturday as they run out of duck pretty fast. He was out in Wasilla so he let them know I was to pick it up. I was across town and didnt pick it up right away but thought nothing of it. They know him and its early. Theh close at 8:30 PM. I went there around lunchtime. When I said I'm here for pickup and said who it was for, the lady at the register's eyes widened and said they had sold the duck and had no more. I said "you guys never made his order"? Oh no, they had.. but since it wasn't picked up within the hour they sold it and were out of duck she said. "So let me get this straight. You made the order, put it into the styrofoam box to-go and because I didn't pick it up within the hour you took it out of the box and sold it to another patron"?! "YES". Mind you, my bf is a regular and has ALWAYS picked up his order! I could maybe understand if if was near closing and he wasn't a regular but this isnt the case. I dont even know why they chose to do this besides maybe someone they know and like wanted the ducm and they were out besides that? Whatever the reason for them is not ok with me. It's really messed up! So next time you order you can wonder is this fresh or out of someone's to-go box! Thanks for nothing Charlie's Bakery!
this place is so good!! good prices friendly staff.
They're one of my favorite restaurants in the Anchorage area. Everything from the dim sum to fried rice to pastries/desserts and so much more is amazing!!
A+ so yummy
Love Charlie's. Great food in a hole in the wall environment.
I love that they will make special orders. I love old school wonton soup and they know how to do it.
