They don’t like to call back what so ever. I’ve called once a week to get some info, over a 3 month period so I had to gave up. I tried work with them understand might be busy but had to get a different attorney. Ps. it had to be a attorney to answer my question (preferably Melissa) not a Receptionist and my voice mail box is never full and I wasn’t wanting free info I was willing to pay.

Living out of state and knowing nothing about the indiana legal system, but hearing about Elisha's Comers background and experience, I knew after the initial consultation she was the lawyer I needed, to get the results I wanted. She very attentive to all my questions, easy to talk to, and gets me the answers without leaving you waiting for a response. As a resident of Texas, I was very surprised when I was served with a subpoena to show up to court in Indianapolis for a child custody hearing. I tried calling the courthouse to explain that I had been living in Texas for the past two years but they said I would have to get an attorney in order to file a motion to transfer jurisdiction. One of my friends who still lived in Indianapolis sent me the link for Melissa Winkler and I am so glad they did. I had already tried to reach an agreement with my ex and his attorney to no avail. I felt like I was being bullied my his attorney and pressured to agree to things I didn't want to agree to. For these reasons I called this law office. From the beginning she set my mind at ease. I was able to breathe and more importantly, I felt like my voice was heard. Without going to court, we were able to reach an agreement via mediation with both of our attorneys there. She listened to me and made sure to stand up for my daughter and I which was the most important thing. She was very firm and knowledgeable. Thanks to Melissa Winkler my daughter will have a relationship with her father and we finally have a custody agreement. I would recommend her to anyone. Her office staff is friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable. I am able to call from Houston to their office with any questions and I get immediate answers. I let my son go to Indiana to visit his father on a temporary basis. After doing so, I received an Emergency Hearing notice for child custody from the father. I reside in California, and received the notice just one day before it was to be decided in an Indiana court. My initial call to Melissa Winkler York's office to set up consultation and ask the amount of her retainer fee , the appointment was made and I was told the retainer was $2K as a respondent to my wife's divorce filing . After meeting with MWY she told me that her husband handled all of their finicial affairs , as a Divorce Attorney who has been in the middle of divorcing couples property division disputes should have throw up a MAJOR RED FLAG but she insisted she trusted her husband . After MWY sized me up during consultation the retainer fee went from 2K to 3K when I asked her the amount . ANOTHER RED FLAG ! After MWY filed her appearance with the Ct. not much happened , my wife wasn't pushing to settle which btw was okay with me because I truly love my wife , I just wasn't a good husband and I accept the full responsibility of her actions . A few months went by without any communication between myself and MWY . I received an email from MWY stating the Ct. was holding a 43 - E hearing to dismiss the divorce and that I was being ORDERED to Ct. To show why I did not want the Ct. to dismiss the divorce hearing ...I didn't want a divorce and the Ct. Order was for the petitioner to appear not the respondent , later I received a letter from MWY's office stating I was being ordered and I wasn't . Just a way for MWY to charge me for two hrs of legal services . ANOTHER RED FLAG ! I called her the same day I received I her email regarding the hearing and she never called me back or returned my calls for over two weeks , when I reached out again through email , it was more excuses why she had not contacted me , I.E., everyone in the office was sick , I didn't answer my phone , my mailbox wasn't set up , on and on and on . . . After another four weeks went by I was ready to terminate her services but decided to give it another try and again no contact from her , I terminated our legal relationship and since she had the balance of my unused retainer fee of $1751.00 ... she went to work deducting every last dollar she could from me , she charged for the emails , letters she sent me and the time to withdraw from the case . The six or seven negative reviews left for her have all experienced the same issues regarding theft of funds when there is no percentage left in it for her anymore she takes whatever she can and calls it for services rendered . She acted as if I worked for her , had she made any serious attempt at making a real effort of discussing my legal issues with me during the six weeks she would probably still be representing me but she didn't and she brought on the issues by ignoring me as if I wasn't important and as if I worked for her . She had no problems sending me email after email after email exposing my faults for the lack of communication between us and always playing the victim card and o' innocent me while always laying the blame at my doorstep . She even went as far as emailing me an Indiana statute claiming I would be comitting a felony if I left a negative review regarding her business . PLEASE STEP DOWN FROM YOUR HIGH HORSE YORK !!!!! Let this review serve as a WARNING to anyone needing her legal services , I have attempted to be as fair to her as she has been to me considering the amount was only $150.00 and some change which she obviously needed more than I did , she had control of my money and took as much as she could when departing. Reply to response by MWY : MWY HAS AN EXCUSE AND A REASON FOR EVERYTHING . SHES A NO FAULT ATTORNEY WHO BLAMES THE CLIENT FOR HER INABILITY TO COMMINUCATE WITH HER CLIENTS AND AS PAR FOR THE COURSE FOR HER THE BLAME AND RESPONSIBILITY OF HER OWN ACTIONS ARE PLACED AT MY ( HER CLIENTS ) DOORSTEP BY HER . SHES COMPLETELY INNOCENT AND A VICTIM BY HER OWN WORDS . YOURE A CLASS ACT MWY AND ANOTHER AWESOME STELLAR PERFORMANCE OF BLAMING THE CLIENT FOR YOUR LACK OF PERFORMANCE . EXCELLENT ! AWESOME , JUST BEAUTIFUL !

Melissa truly represents lawyers as heartless, and blood sucking. She NEVER returns phone calls, and has horrendous communication skills. Some of her charges consist of $17.50 to send you (her client) a letter. She charges $8.75 to send an email to the opposing council as well as the mediator. She doesn't care about having client relationships in good status (as in calling to check up, or RETURN PHONE CALLS). The only way to get a hold of her, is to go into her office and hope she's actually there, which she's normally not; (that's understandable, lawyers are court rats) however when you let the secretary and her paralegal both know that Melissa needs to call you back or email you AND SHE STILL DOESNT; that's as bad as it gets. Lack of respect is all I can think of, even though I am her client. Even in mediation the opposing council got EVERYTHING he wanted for his client and Melissa just let it all happen. For instance the opposing party didn't do anything in discovery for Melissa, AND MELISSA DIDNT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT (this was after she told me it was required for me to do the discovery for the opposing council, which I did). We went off one paycheck instead of three when it came to child support, we didn't get a break down of how much my daughters insurance cost for being on the opposing parties insurance either. Like I said before she's heartless, and won't fight for you, but LOVES TO BILL YOU! My final straw (I'm surprised i didn't fire her sooner as well) was her not telling me the opposing parties date for contempt was canceled because we had an agreement in mediation. Well come to find out I was still charged $86.50 for her to file that contempt of court paperwork (Even though it was canceled). So I call once I realize I should probably be refunded for it and of course NO REFUND. Then once I let her office know she was terminated and I no longer wanted her services, she didn't care at all, didn't ask why, didn't ask if there was anything she can do to help fix the situation, just let it happen, BECAUSE SHE DOESNT CARE AND IS HEARTLESS!!! If you're reading this don't have Melissa-Winkler York represent you, save your time, money, and more importantly avoid all the stress she'll bring you.... Her response to this comment is the biggest lie I've ever heard. Her paralegal was notified to tell Melissa to give me a call a month ago and didn't return it until I had to call into the office recently and complain. Melissa did call me back two days later while I was at work! Good thing she knows what her clients work schedule is like right? (Too bad she doesn't) NO VOICEMAIL WAS LEFT BTW. Then I still return her phone call ASAP (like people should) and guess what she didn't do! RETURN MY PHONE CALL lol. So I terminated her, then face to face I ask for my file back, she still doesn't ask why or what she can do to change the situation, SHE DOESNT CARE. I'm telling you people she's a joke don't go to her; regardless of the fake ratings she puts on here for herself don't go to her!

I hired this firm to get my record expunged. I was very pleased to find out they would take on my case and focus on one county before we decided to proceed with the rest. My concern is that I made a down payment late last summer and agreed I would pay the second part once they filed the petition and we got a court date. The whole thing sounded like it would be wrapped up before the end of the year (2018) and we would go from there. I think I made half of the second payment in October despite having no court date. To the best of my understanding they filed the petition January (2019) and still no court date as we are quickly approaching mid July. I have been told they are not sure what is taking so long for us to get a response on the order. Anyway, today I have received an invoice for the balance for the second month in a row and there has been no updates from the court or a court date scheduled. I'd be excited to pay if things started progressing. Thankfully, the majority of my emails are responded to when I send them but not always and honestly I'm starting to feel very concerned with this process. I only have a year to complete this request and I only have the one opportunity to get it accomplished. I'm not sure if I should start looking to hire another firm/attorney or what, honestly I just feel hopeless. During my consultation this process sounded so simple, now I feel like a bother and an inconvenience. Ultimately I would be very satisfied if things would have gone as discussed and hopefully I am just worrying to much, I just don't want to wait to long to start considering other options. I will update this review as this case progresses. UPDATE: After leaving this review last night I received an email this morning that really put me at ease! Again, I've been impressed with everything this firm has done with me personally and honestly it looks like the responsibility of the delay is simply waiting on the prosecutor to sign my documents. I will continue to update my review until my case comes to a close.

In the state of Indiana your allowed 2 modification hearing's... This firm reduced my sentence 68months with Mrs. Winkler- York, representing me, then turned around my second Modification, she sent "Brooke", that I didn't know if she was as good as Mrs. Winkler-York. Well let me tell you, I WAS WELL IMPRESSED WITH BROOKE ALSO., she was very assertive with the prosecutor and fought my case as the best in the state of Indiana, and she got the last word in,,,as well ..with a new Judge and Prosecutor making a name for themselves...I was able to get off calling Drug line everyday for the next 3 years and my probation was made informal, I can leave the state by going in and filing out a paper to let Judge know. And I dont have to report no more. For this law firm to get 2 modifications on the same case is unheard of...Thank you so much Melissa Winkler-York and Brooke. It started out as simply filing for a modification, and over time has evolved into a way more complicated and frustrating ordeal (due to the Marion County court system). She has been a trooper through it since the beginning. She is patient, observant, and normally pretty quick to respond. Brooke is also very down to earth- I always feel comfortable talking to her. Since I cannot reply to this offices' rebuttle to my comment, I'll update here: I'd like to see those records, and I'd like proof that you left a voicemail. Bet you can't provide that. Also, I did not tell you I no longer needed your services, I fired you because you didn't do your job. My money should have been returned... All of it. I did not cash the $200 check you sent because I was going to pursue this with the office that the BBB recommended, and cashing that check would have meant I accepted your terms, which I did not. Was the check cashed? It's obvious this office uses their law expertise to bully people out of their money when they decide not to do their job. You were given a time limit and did nothing in that time. You typed up 3 pages of bs to submit and charged me $600 for it, but expected me to still pay when the time limit I gave you was gone. I was moving 15 hours away. You knew that. You knew I needed this paperwork done so that I could not be BROUGHT BACK TO THE STATE after I moved. We discussed this very thing and you told me that's what my ex could do if we could not get him to agree. This was done because I could not afford to move back to the state with my son after moving already. That's not me deciding that I no longer need your services. That's you not doing your job and, therefore, should refund my money. Do not use this attorney. I met with her and wrote a check that day for the agreed amount to write up visitation and child support terms that my ex and I had agreed on. I was very clear in expressing the urgency because I had a closing date on a home in another state and needed everything done within 2 weeks of our meeting. Between packing up 2 houses, 3 kids, and getting our house ready to rent out, I did not have time to stay on top of this office. I called a few days before our closing date, which was pushed a week further than I had originally told her, so she had even more time than originally thought. When asking about my case, the lady acted as though she had no idea who I was or anything about my case, I explained that it was too late because I was leaving in a few days and this was supposed to be done before I moved. She said she'd find out and call me back. 3 hours later, I received an email with the requested paperwork (3 pages typed up) that I was supposed to sign. When I talked to the office again that day I explained again that it was too late. The point of the paperwork was so that I'd have peace of mind during the time before the move so that my ex would not try to keep me in the state because he was being volatile, one minute ok with the move and the next he was threatening me. I explained that the paperwork they emailed me could have been drawn up in 30 minutes which gave them plenty of time during the 3 hours I waited for a response that day. They insisted they had called me a week prior.... But I had no voicemails and no record of the call, and that would have been too late for my original move date anyway, and I was very clear about why I was wanting all of this done and how fast I needed it done. When asked why they didn't leave a voicemail, they had no answer. When asked why they didn't email me at that time, they had no answer. I requested my money back. Melissa sent me a $200 check because that was the filing fee that I didn't pay since I fired her. She refused to send me the rest of my money, arguing that she didn't know I was moving, which is BS. Do not trust this attorney. IT COST ME $800 FOR NOTHING. The BBB won't take on attorneys. Complaints have to be filled with another office.

I first had a consultation with Melissa because I wanted primary physical custody of my Daughter due to more reasons than I have time to write. I don’t want to get into the specifics but my situation was very difficult for me and at the time I couldn’t be the Father I wanted to be and couldn’t even try to be. Being a Father in the State of Indiana, I felt like I didn’t have a chance. That was before I met Melissa Winkler-York. Not only did she take my case that really wasnt in her geographical area, she kicked major behind and I now have primary physical custody of my Daughter! She got me everything I wanted and more! She knew exactly what to do at our court date and I have to say that I was very impressed! I wish I could give some examples of how she dominated but I will keep them between us. As normal court cases go, things were kind of slow in the beginning due to the courts losing my original filing, a few continuations and things like that but it’s just how it goes. If everything goes right for you at the beginning and during the process, then nothing will go right in the end so I consider the few bumps along the way a blessing. People need to understand that you have to communicate with your attorney. You have to work together. You have to tell them the problems you’re having or the things you need or they’ll never know. You have to keep in constant contact. If you really want the results you seek, you have to stay at it. You need to do some work as well. Some reviews on here are obviously from people who think that their attorney is supposed to do absolutely everything for them. Yea, you pay them but it’s not going to work that way. You have to work with your attorney as a team. Going months without contacting them, not doing some work of your own, not getting the results you want due to your lack of motivation, then giving a bad review isn’t very smart. I sought Melissa out for my uncontested divorce with a flat rate. My ex and I worked out all the details. We needed a QDRO for our settlement which was an additional flat fee. A year after the divorce has been final I am still trying to get this done. Her office has submitted three versions to the plan that have been rejected due to clearly written requirements that the office did not follow. Each time, I was the one who had to find out why the order was rejected and get the ball rolling again to correct the mistake. I asked that they submit via fed-ex and offered to pay for it because one version was simply not received. I was promised they would by her paralegal, but it was likely not done because I asked for a tracking number and was never provided one. I asked them to verify the language with the plan before sending to the judge to sign and again this was not done. After each rejection, the office has not only been unresponsive to my concerns but has repeatedly giving me false information (promising they would call me back, send me documents, follow up). Most recently today, I was notified the QDRO was again rejected in June. The plan sent a letter to my attorney and it was returned. In July, Melissa Winkler-York assured me it was all taken care of and that she spoke to the contact at the plan. Today I spoke to the same contact and she said they still does not have the required documentation and the QDRO is not approved. I will be seeking a refund of the money paid for this QDRO as clearly this office in not competent to finalize. My divorce was smooth otherwise, but like I said my ex and I basically worked out all the information and just had the attorney complete paperwork. I would not recommend this office.
