I met Amy Gardner in 2003 when my husband and I decided to remodel our house. It was a pretty dilapidated, but cute, Sears Bungalow from the 1920's. We really wanted a contemporary addition but thought that this would be impossible based on the period style of the house. To our surprise, Amy was able to create a beautiful design by designing a more updated bungalow style for the front of the house - which she describes as a "Japanese Tea House". She educated me on the fact that the origin of the bungalow style actually came from Japan. Then, she designed a much more contemporary, yet warm, addition on the back where we were able to have the contemporary kitchen that we truly desired. The best part of her design is that the transition from a more traditional front to a more contemporary back is seamless! This whole project and her ability to understand how to put it all together felt magical.
Having been a kitchen and bath designer in Chevy Chase, MD for the last 35 years, I have worked with many, many architects. After having worked with Amy, not only on my house but on many other new and renovated homes in the past 14 years, I have to say that she is the absolute BEST architect that I've ever met! She understands the benefit of collaboration and therefore respected our ideas throughout the whole process, allowing us to participate in the creation of our new home, (this is not always a natural trait for such skilled architects of her caliber ;-) She is not only talented, she is creative, innovative and she stays up to date with the latest and greatest products and trends including green and sustainable construction. If her clients desire to have something that she hasn't done before, her research skills are so fantastic that she's willing and able to tackle the challenge and to do it to the nth degree .
I am endlessly impressed with her ability to create the most detailed plans which barely leave anything out and are so clear that the actual construction goes very smoothly. She's a real pro at staying on top of the project, catching issues (which are inevitable in this industry) and fixing them by being a fantastic team player with everyone involved. She's a skilled diplomat who can ensure little to no contention during the build out - which we all know can be a very stressful process.
The way that she and her right hand woman, Brittany, take ownership of any project that they choose to take on is above an beyond the call of duty. I have yet to meet any professional who has such a dedication to look out for a client's best interest.
Do not hesitate to hire Amy Gardner if you want to ensure a well orchestrated project where the end result is mind blowing!
