The architects for the new Portland Hyatt Place on Fore street was designed by Canal 5 Studio. If anyone has driven by the mammoth looming black faced building will be quite shocked if you knew the before and after of this corner location. I am quite disappointed with the looming black wall on the south side. If anything on the south side of any building there should be reflective panels or something where the sun is not absorbing so much heat! The architects tout this has a green and efficient building??? What about a green and environmental friendly exterior or a green roof or solar panels? Consequently, as a local, I am quite unhappy with the design of this building and based on comments made by other locals who are not happy with this as well. Portland Architects need to start building exterior green buildings and not just false advertising green friendly building when all they do are LED, tight envelope, and high condensing boilers..... that is ONLY part of the solution..... I think the Hyatt Place Hotel is a very attractive building. I especially like the accordion -shaped window at the front. I think it’s amazing how they fit the building inside that tiny footprint and made it viable! I don’t think it’s fair that someone who has never used this firm can rate them and even more so based on personal opinion, not facts and its allowed to stay 5 years later. Hopefully these reviews don’t have as much weight as many happy customers. This review basically neutralizes that first unfair review.
