They are the worst vet I've been to my dog went into labor my original vet was closed so i called them because i knew she needed a c section. Spoke to vet they asked me has she been pushing for more than 30min to bring her in immediately. Prior to talking to them i told them my vet said that it was a big pup she was carrying. I get there they take her to the back exam her and they even told me the pup was big. So my question is why didnt they do the emergency c section instead of waiting 4hrs to see if she would push it out. After 4hrs oo f them giving her medication to see if she would push the pup out they decided to give her the c section by then the pup had died. They was quick to take my money but wasnt quick to do the emergency c section. The surgeon dont even like dogs so why have him work there. They must of forgot i was in the small waiting room in the back. They are very unprofessional except the female that brought my dog to me after the waisted time and money surgery. They are out just to get your money i highly do not recommend them if your pet has a serious injury

What would we do without the amazing caring and compassionate staff of the emergency clinic. They sacrifice their own comfort and time with their families to care for ours. They are such a valuable and vital part of the community we are blessed to have them within driving distance.

Waiting time is ridiculous regardless of patient count or seriousness of healty issues. Good to havevwhile regular vets are always out but extremely hard for far away patrons or working patrons to get emergent help dor their fur babies. Friendlyvstaff thiugh which helped a LOT

Expensive services, but on the night that we went, my cat passed away right as we walked in the door. A tech named Ashley (I think?) was so kind and helpful. She cleaned him up and let us say goodbye, and made us keepsakes of his paw. They even coordinated with the funeral home so we didn't have to worry about cremation. If you're having an emergency, I would definitely take my cats back here.

Friendly and thorough. Helped my kitty get better.

DO NOT LISTEN TO THE BAD REVIEWS! The staff was so incredibly helpful and sweet in helping me euthanize my rabbit. They were sympathetic and understanding. The staff were working extremely hard in helping so many pets in the rooms. People tend to complain because there's a long wait, but the staff handled all of the complaints with dignity. They don't deserve nearly all of the hate they receive. They're a great company and absolutely helpful. I fully recommend them in times of a pet emergency!

This place is a joke. Over 3 hours of waiting and ended up getting skipped while my dog is barely breathing. They don't care. I will never be coming back. I'd rather pay more elsewhere than deal with this place again.

Dr. McCall literally saved the life of my French Bulldog puppy Piper when she had an anaphylactic reaction of unknown cause. The staff was very kind, keeping me updated while Piper was being treated. I've been to this clinic a few times over the years and my pets always received top notch care and the veterinarians were always respectful and kind.

They deal with serious pet cases first, before more mundane clients. You have to understand that. I was there for 6plus hours but there were terrible injuries that came in. I understood that. They were apologetic about my wait. They took their time explaining to me my cat's condition and prognosis. I do recommend them, especially Dr. McCall

Adam Nicholas

One of the worst animal hospital/vets I've ever been to. They lied right to my face. They do not care about an animals well being. I'm not saying everyone that works there is bad, but the staff I have encountered are unprofessional & unfit for your animals health to say the least. I urge you not to visit this location. Very poor judgement treating/dealing with animals.

Very caring and kind staff. Life savers for your animal family members. Very Pricey could be more reasonable on the pricing so more folks could save them pets. Have used multiple times.

This place use to be somewhere I was confident in, that is no longer the case. They have new vets and new vet techs that are extremely rude and unfriendly. The only friendly one there was the girl who checked us out when we were leaving, I believe her name was Angela, I had seen her there in the past. The wait time was insane compared to how it use to be. Considering there was only 1 other dog there. When they finally did call us back to a room, the table had not been wiped off from the dog before, I told the vet the meds our regular vet and the vet there always put him on and they gave me a liquid form of a pain pill that states online it should not be given to dogs in liquid form and is usually given to treat seizures which he was not having. They only wanted to give me pain meds for him when I know he needed an anti-inflammatory, finally after arguing with the the little maybe 18yr old vet helper they gave him his anti-inflammatory medication, all they had to do was look at pt history which was clearly a good page long. Each time the little helper would go out of the room when I was explaining to her why he needed anti-inflammatory we could hear her talking badly about my husband and myself, apparently she thought the room was soundproof. I have never been been so displeased! This will absolutely be a last resort for me from now on.

If I could leave zero stars I would. I called them and told them my dog chewed through a plugged in cord (something he never does) it electrocuted him. He was attached to the current for less than 10 seconds as my boyfriend pulled him off. They told me to bring him down immediately as it could cause internal damage. We sat there for OVER TWO HOURS we were the only people there and you could hear the entire staff sitting in the office laughing and telling jokes. I was furious to say the least!! I would not trust these people to touch an inanimate object let alone my poor dog. We walked out to find another vet. This is the most unprofessional place I have EVER seen! This is a place I will never recommend or return to. Not to mention they wanted to charge a minimum fee of almost $90 just to be SEEN, that's not counting all the tests needed to be done. Pathetic.

Chad Hatcher

DO NOT BELIEVE THE NEGATIVE POSTS. I recently had a kitten (Vinny) who was very dear to my daughter. Vinny had been diagnosed with a warble in his nose. Two other vets could not get it out. Dr. McCall and her wonderful staff were able to remove it. Unfortunately, the the kitten also had parvo. Dr. McCall caught this also, but due to it not eating for days because of the warble, I had to make the difficult decision to let him go. Dr. McCall made that difficult decision easier by taking the time to provide me with all of the options and showing great empathy toward the decision. Dr. McCalls intuitive diagnosis of the parvo did allow me to treat and cure his twin brother's parvo. I have an animal ER 15 minutes from my house in Huntington, but if I ever have an emergency in the future I will drive the extra hour to Dr. McCall as she is one of the best vets I have dealt with in 40 years. THANKS Dr. McCall you helped save our other furbaby.

I took my cat to this vet Sunday because her left arm was paralyzed. The er vet determined before even running tests that she had a blood clot caused by a cardiovasvular episode which had cut off all circulation in her arm. None of my cat's lab work confirmed it, but the doctor insisted that because her left paw was colder than her right it had to be a blood clot and I needed to take her to see a cardiovascular vet in columbus. I took my cat to my vet and another vet and both have confirmed that somehow my cat had overextended her shoulder and pinched a nerve, making the leg paralyzed. She is now on anti-inflammatory medication, which is much cheaper than a trip to columbus. Also, my vet was shocked at the prices I had to pay--mainly $300 for oxygen for not more than an hour or so. The people were nice, and I can't say I won't go again since it is the only vet office opened at night, but I will definitely be hesitant to go there again.

The last time we brought a pet here, while sitting in the back waiting room, a clipboard was posted at the check in window stating that no animals would be seen for 4-5 hours. Nobody came out and told us this. Last emergency we had we called and were at least told that the vet went into emergency surgery and would be essentially closed for 4 hrs. I don't understand why they cannot have at least 1 vet on call like a typical emergency room. The staff have always been polite, but, this is simply not a reliable way to operate an e-vet. Both times we drove an hour to the next closest vet and were seen immediately.

Debra Raines

Very Sweet when they had to lay our Cinnamon to rest

David Hall, Jr.

I obviously don't like having to go to the emergency vet but so glad they are there for things that need attention after hours!

David Riley

Terrible place. Have a clearly sick animal on the brink of death and kept taking other animals in with much less severe conditions. Don't bring your animal here. Take it to Huntington or some other ER. Valley West is a great hospital but unfortunately they recommend this place. STAY FAR AWAY.

Itty Bitty Kitty Committee

We are a little cat rescue based in Charleston, WV. We take in kitties that require extra care and many trips to this clinic. The doctors and staff are truly compassionate, gifted, and caring individuals who never treat our kitties as though they are "only rescues". We are lucky that this facility and these wonderful people are there for us and our four legged family members when our regular Veterinarians are not open.

My two foster kittens were diagnosed with fading kitten syndrome. Within 30 mins of becoming lifeless I rushed them here late one night and was told that 2 week old kittens not weighing even a half an ounce stood no chance but they would try. Long story short two days later I had taken them home and the boy had to be rushed back to be euthanized. But because of them the little girl had a chance and it has been 8 days and she is gaining weight. They have her the chance at living for herself and for her brither

How can these people advertise themselves as 'Emergency vets'. We sat in the parking lot watching them inside and my husband asked if we could come in (they didn't open for 20 minutes) and were told NO! So instead my beloved dog died in my lap from congestive heart failure, he needed oxygen and a fluid pill. You should not advertise as Emergency, you are just a regular vets office, I went because you claim to be Emergency. You should open as soon as the first local vets office closes. I have been here before and couldn't stand them then, and they just confirmed for me they DO NOT CARE!!

Hannah Evans

Don't care about animals, just what money they can get out of you. Called beforehand to let them know the issue, was assured they could fix it and even gave an estimate, then waited until we were in the exam room and could be charged to tell us they didn't have any dental equipment period. Let an elderly dog sit in pain bleeding all over the waiting room for over three hours, just mopped up the blood and didn't feel it necessary to help the dog. Even after waiting so long for an emergency, was charged an emergency fee and charged through the roof for simple pain meds and antibiotics.

Our bill was more expensive than we were originally told, and we were the first ones here and then they got swamped with people. They told us our dog would be ready in about 2 hours, so we came back then and they said "no not even close he hasn't even gone into surgery yet. We are still dealing with all of the people in the waiting room." I'm sorry but I was here first. I am so upset and mad about this.

Angela Asbury

My husband and I had to take our dog in on a weekend just days after having puppies. We knew something was wrong. They took her in and told us exactly what they would do and what she needed. They told us the price up front and told us they would throughout her care. They ended up keeping her a little longer than originally planned but did not charge us any extra money. They treated her with excellent care and we're extremely professional. I would definitely go back if there was ever a need.

I would love to give 0 stars. My yorkie was in a life or death situation and all they cared to say was “you’re 7th in-line” i drove all the way to Kenova and made it just in time as they said my dog was barley alive. Her sugar dropped but i wasted an hour sitting in the waiting room of this hospital! Very upset about the service. It shouldn’t be who got there first it should be the severity of the dogs condition which is why it’s an EMERGENCY VET. Kenova was amazing, even her report says she was “dull and disoriented” she couldn’t even lift her head up they took her back IMMEDIATELY. I know there are other dogs that are sick but none were i the condition mine was in. Glad i got up and left before it was too late for her.

Buddy Clem

Literally a life saver for your pets! They can do all kinds of life-saving work, including blood transfusions for cats. They do require up-front payment, but help you apply for a "Care Credit" card that can also be used for your dental and vision. The bedside manner could be better, and the hours are limited from 7pm to 7am, so they lose 1 star for that. It is the only Charleston area emergency animal hospital. The next closest is in Huntington, WV.

MONTE CRISTIA

Caring compitent staff, I only go there in emergencies from Parkersburg

They kept my sister waiting on Sunday for 7 hrs with the dog still in the car she was there at 12:45 pm they took people ahead of her she was the last one out got home about 9:15 pm they charged her almost 600$ dog had lime disease what a disgrace to charge anyone that sat for over 7 hrs we need a better clinic that is funded by the people and not outragious prices that people can't afford.

I arrived with my very ill cat a few minutes after the vet opened for the night, but in the 4 hours we spent there the only thing they did that actually helped him was give him anti-nausea medication to stop his vomiting. The vet student and supervising vet misread the x-rays, telling me that my cat had fluid in his abdomen that needed to be sampled. However, less than 8 hours later my regular vet took x-rays and immediately knew it was air in his abdomen- not fluid. My regular vet's findings were confirmed through surgery, so I know she was correct. In addition, when my cat arrived at my regular vet, his body temperature was so low that they couldn't get a read. It is highly unlikely his temperature was normal when he was seen at the emergency vet, who failed to even mention his body temp. To add insult to injury, the fax from the emergency vet didn't come through in its entirety. I feel like I wasted nearly $400 (for basic bloodwork and x-rays) and 4 hours only to have a dead cat less than 24 hours later.

Although our situation unfortunately culminated in somber results. Both my fiance and I were 1000% satisfied with the manner in which the staff navigated EVERY step of our difficult situation. We were unsure of where to go to evaluate our options, but we were EXTREMELY pleasantly satisfied with their involvement, guidance, and compassion. THE STAFF MEMBERS WERE WONDERFUL

Wonderful staff for my dog, during an emergency. I understand busy, buy I do feel.somethings could have moved faster,; but that's as a layman and not behind the scenes, kinda like any emergency waiting room. The fees was much more reasonable than expected. I've been there many years ago and an intial visit was way more expensive than it is now. Very please and would go back if needed!

Charles Grant

I took my dog there and waited over 3 1/2 hours. The staff was rude and inattentive. My dog had an eye injury. No staff kept me updated on when my dog would be seen. They seemed more interested in collecting credit card info. They need to make major changes in the ER staffing both with doctors and techs. I eventually left without being seen.

Jeanne Leary

They are very loving with the pets! My dog had to monitored during the night. We transferred him from Cross Lanes to the Kanawha Valley Animal Emergency. He did well in their care

Great group of veterinarians and vet techs here. All we're caring and gentle with my cat which was very sick but with their care and treatment was back on his feet within 24 hours. They were very upfront and honest about the cost of each test, treatment and medicine. I even got a refund on my initial deposit because my cat got better quicker than expected. I was able to call anytime and check on my pet too. Highly recommended from me and my cat, George Noodleman.

I was there today and drove all the way from Gilbert and wasted 5 hours to have my dog not even seen. Woke up and she looked like a monster from being so swollen so I panicked and took her here. Her swelling went from her nose and top of her mouth to her eyes to now under her mouth. There were a few including myself who left and a hand full who had very sick animals that waited for hours before they could even make someone give them an update. The lady out front was ignorant and the atmosphere just sucked. Next time I have an emergency I will take mine straight to Virginia tech. It was a wasted trip and I wouldn’t take a goldfish there.

Ashley Adkins

Took excellent care of my dog and was great with us as well!

amazing people, they not only care for your pet but also the owners

Carol Smithson

I took my sick dog there and there are signs up stating they may see other animals that come in after you due to seriousness, I waited forever for them to finish with a dog that was already there. Finally, they finished with that dog who seemed happy and healthy. A young man came in carrying a dog that was having stomach issues....they took him right in while I still sit with my sick dog. They didn't even acknowledge my presence. My dog is sick, too. After waiting for two hours, I left without being seen.
