Love the waiting area. Its so calm and their chairs are really comfy. Their staff is super nice and understanding and they really seem to care about the patients they see and the owners that care for them. The Vet gets right to the point and will even point out further issues with your pet if there are any.

Dizzy Dogs

All my pets are unlucky enough to have medical issues beyond basic preventive care--but we're lucky enough to have the RVC staff and Dr. Putnam for their veterinary needs. Dr. Putnam knows his stuff, but spends a great deal of time consulting specialists to learn more about the unusual conditions my pets have presented him. He continually seeks ways to help them, and has called in animal cardiologists and acupuncturists to help us. I would drive to Lexington or Louisville in a heartbeat if it was necessary, but we get top-notch, local care at RVC. I wasn't joking about unlucky pets; we've had to utilize a range of services RVC is able to do for diagnosis and preventive care: digital X-rays, ultrasounds, laser therapy, endoscopy, dentals and surgeries. And, if Dr. Putnam does an X-ray or ultrasound, he later shows you the actual images from the procedures so understanding what's happening and why is easier. We've had to use the after hours emergency number several times, and knowing I don't have to drive to Lexington for emergency help is a big relief. I also appreciate that on-site hospitalization is available if we need it. Plus, Dr. Putnam treats all kinds of animals--domestic and exotic. Besides meeting other cats and dogs in the waiting room, I've met a bird, a ferret, guinea pigs, snakes and a couple of tortoises. And, once, as I was leaving a 1 a.m. emergency visit with one of my dogs, another emergency was arriving. It was someone with a sick chameleon. I have no doubt that chameleon got the same attention and excellent treatment my seizure dog had just gotten. Above all else, and just as important to me, is how compassionate the entire staff is. They emotionally supported me through the weeks up to and the devastating loss of three of my dogs. Their kindness means the world to me. I couldn't ask for anything more for my pets' care. Dr. O’Connor always treats my dog like her own with incredible compassion and knowledge. My previous vet incorrectly diagnosed my dog with terminal cancer and tried to amputate my dog’s leg. Dr. O’Connor was skilled enough to recognize the mistake and save my dog’s leg and a lot of heartache for myself. She cares so much for not only her patients, but the rest of the family as well. My questions are always answered thoroughly and thoughtfully, and I know my dog is in amazingly capable hands under her care.

We are so thankful for Dr.Putman and staff. Our dog Scholes is 12-13 years old. We thought he was on his last leg. Dr.Putman figured out that Scholes had cushings disease and a bad bacteria in his bladder. With medication Dr.Putman recommended, Scholes is like his young self again! We couldn't be happier! I take my dog Maxx to Dr. Putnam at Richmond Veterinary Clinic. I live in Lexington and drive to Richmond for my pet's care. Totally worth the drive for me and my fur baby! First, the clinic is super spacious and inviting. Incredibly clean. Comfy big chairs in the main wait area and it's a very calm environment. For my appointments, I've never had to wait more than a few minutes to be brought back to an exam room with Maxx. Dr. Putnam is very thorough and knowledgeable, and will spend an extended amount of time talking with you about your fur baby. He is very comforting and really wants to make sure you fully understand the nature of your pet's condition. He tries to answer every question and he will call you if he happens to think of another suggestion, or if he does some additional research. I've never had a vet spend so much effort and time with me and my dog. My dog is battling anemia and a nasty skin condition associated with that illness and he has been wonderful throughout the process and through Maxx's continuing recovery. His staff are so nice - from the reception area, to vet techs, to students, everyone is so kind and welcoming. You can easily tell how much everyone there loves animals. Also, I really appreciate that they give you a call back the day after your appointment to check on your baby and to answer any additional questions or concerns you might have. I highly recommend Dr. Putnam and Richmond Veterinary Clinic.

RVC is amazing. I first found out about them when my pet rat needed emergency treatment. It was almost midnight but Dr.Putnam still took my call and came to meet me. They're amazing for being on call like that, I know no other vet that is for small animals. When my rat passed they sent a condolsecneces card which was very sweet and meant a lot. They are very thorough and good with my dogs and cat too. When my dog cried and yelped during his check up shots, they called the next day to check on him and see how he was doing . Those are the things that really stick out to me, sooo very sweet. I will always make the trip to take my pets to RVC.

My family has been seeing Dr. Putnam for years, starting in Lexington and following him to Richmond— we lived in Lancaster. When I moved to Richmond I already knew who I would be taking my dog to see. Dr. Putnam is amazing and staff is SO friendly. I’ve had to contact Dr. Putnam after hours and he has always replied within the hour and updated himself on records of the dogs if they have had to go to the emergency vet. Extremely nice staff. They saved my sweet Ruby girl and made her so comfortable. She's never been left anywhere over night but when the staff let me come visit her I knew she was doing and feeling much better. This was an emergency situation and they fit me in their extremely busy schedule and still made time when I called ahead and asked to pop in and see her. Long story short, Dr. Putnam made a last minute operation to remove what ended up being a blockage in our dog's small intestine. We were with another vet for months running tests etc before turning to Dr Putnam. Our boxer was days from dying, weighed 57lbs...was 84lbs several months before. Everyone was so great and stayed in constant contact with us during and after surgery. Pharaoh is back up to 80lbs now and a monster again....Very thankful for all of the staff's hard work.

Our longtime vet, who we also love, was out of town when our dog got sick. I called Richmond Veterinary Clinic, and I could not have been more impressed. They treated us like we were family.
