Brought my young cat in to have an echocardiogram done on his heart. The staff and DVM were very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. Had an early morning appointment and we were brought into the room and checked out in a very timely fashion. Very much enjoyed my experience here!

When our beloved dog was diagnosed with lymphoma in Lawrence by our local vet, we were devastated. After learning that the type of lymphoma she has is treatable with an 80-90% remission rate with chemotherapy, we knew we wanted to try that option for our girl. We couldn't do the treatment with our local vet and found Blue Pearl online. I was able to make an appointment within a reasonable amount of time. Our first visits have been with intern Dr. Kayla Viebrock, and she has been wonderful to work with. In my first appointment with Blue Pearl, she sat with me and answered all of my questions, fully explained all of our options, and most importantly, was incredibly gentle and kind with my dog. So far, our experience with Blue Pearl has been fabulous, and I recommend them highly.

Had an early morning visit with our cat who had a few seizures. So glad a 24 hr emergency vet is available in this area. Dr. Horton was very kind, professional, and helpful. She didn't run any tests that weren't necessary and gave very clear instructions on how to follow-up. We are very appreciative that our concerns were taken seriously and feel that our cat was cared for with good hands.

I will never use their services again, they killed my cat!! My cat had something going on in her lungs that even after spending $2,000.00, a definite diagnosis was not known, maybe a tumor, an abscess, an infection, or something else entirely. She would develop pleural effusions causing her to have breathing difficulties. Twice, the fluid build-up was drained from her pleural space and she returned home happy and breathing fine, until the fluid started to return several weeks later. She wasn't suffering so I was unable to put her down, as they suggested, and as long as I had money, I would get the fluid drained, the procedure was quick and didn't seem to bother her. The other day when she was picked up after the procedure, it was very late so my friend picked her up for me. It was not until the next day that I noticed my cat was now blind, her eyes never closed, she didn't respond at all and she had definite brain damage. When I held her water dish up to her, she could not drink from it, her head just rolled in circles and fell in the water. Her movements, the few she had, were all jerky and clumsy looking. Obviously, she had suffered an anoxic-hypoxic event or oxygen toxicity and nothing was mentioned when my friend picked her up or when they collected their payment. My cat died that night.

Honestly the best service in a moment of a pet emergency. Although, the cost to do surgery on my dog was an expensive one and options were to do the surgery or put my buddy down; I highly recommend the team of vet doctors at this emergency clinic to do the work. I also recommend pet insurance if you can afford it.

Really couldn't have asked for better care for my cat. Had to be rushed for same day emergency treatment from my primary vet which when I got there, recommended this place. My cat had a blockage in his bladder and had to have a cathetar inserted asap. When I got there, they saw me right away and knew what to do (my vet had called them in advance I was coming). They took my cat and then a vet came and talked to me and walked me through the whole process while answering all my questions and concerns. I felt relieved and happy to leave him there with the very polite staff. It seemed reasonably priced for the emergency service they offer. They also called me each day to tell me how he was doing (he stayed a total of 3 days) and followed up once he was discharged. Also worth noting that I had a concern and called them at 2am and the staff were more than happy to chat and help. My cat survived thanks to these group of lovely, professional people.

My Jack Russell ate a tulip petal and after some research, I figured he would be okay. But being a hypochondriac even for my dog, I called Blue Pearl and asked to make sure. They asked their vet on staff and told me what I should look out for, but mostly reassured me that he would most likely be fine. Thanks for putting my mind at ease.

We have used Blue Pearl 3 times now. The first time was late at night when we discovered our puppy had eaten some grapes from a bowl we were eating out of. We brought her in and they IMMEDIATELY turned their attention to her. The doctor was very caring and after they pumped her stomach spent time with us explaining what they did and answering all of our questions. Recently we took her to Blue Pearl for an echo-cardiogram after an x-ray our vet took showed some anomalies. And the third visit was just yesterday for further diagnosis by an internist as a follow-up to results from both the x-ray and the echo-cardiogram. In all cases, the doctors spent time with us discussing the results of the tests, suggested follow-up action. We are so pleased that a facility like Blue Pearl is in close proximity to our home. With multiple cats and now another dog in our brood, it is nice to know we can go somewhere when our regular vet is not available. I know some people have complained about the cost, but when you consider this is a facility with 7x24 staffing, cardiologists, internists, oncologists, neurologists, surgeons, dentists and others on staff, along with x-ray, CT, MRI, fluoroscopy and ultrasound equipment, you can't (and I don't expect ) to pay what you'd pay walking into your vet's office (even if they had half the equipment Blue Pearl does). Thanks for being here!

My beloved lab, Zeus, was hit by a car late at night. We called ahead and they were waiting for us. They met me in the parking lot with a gurney and rushed him right in for examination. Within minutes, while I was still filling out paperwork, he was stable and the doctor was explaining his situation. Unfortunately, I chose to euthanize him - his injuries complicated and his quality of life would be seriously changed. The staff and facility are amazing. They gave me as much time as I wanted/needed to say goodbye. We were in a comfort room that is not clinical at all to spend our last moments. They brought him to me wrapped in a blanket as comfortable as he could be at that time. We were given as much time as I wanted before administering the sleep meds. I was allowed to stay and hold him during that time. We were not rushed and given every opportunity to ask questions and take the time to make a difficult decision. While some people complain about the cost, I would say it is an emergency situation and there is no way to cover every circumstance until they actually start treatment and find out what responses the animal has to that treatment. They assisted me, gave me the information and let me make my own decision. Although it was heart wrenching, I highly recommend them.

I was really surprised to see the low ratings. My vet had recommended Blue Pearl for a surgical consult if the time came for my Labrador (lar par). Though I never had the consult I ended up going to Blue Pearl at about 2am as there was no on call vet at my vet’s office and my dog was in distress. Dr Beverly was so kind through the whole process, but I knew going in the outcome wouldn’t be good. My Labrador has just gotten too old and his condition too severe to do anything that could improve his life and he had to be put to sleep. Dr Beverly did present options for care and timing and Rex was euthanized shortly there after. The entire staff was very sensitive then and when I went to pick up his ashes. I’ve only had these visits to Blue Pearl at times that were very difficult for me personally, but found them to be kind, professional, and caring.

Sadly, what everyone says is true. Once they get your money, there is no compassion for you. I would not return here and I would not recommend this place. While I understand emergency vet medicine is high, this place is extremely so. Find a good vet who has emergency services.

HORRIFIC!!!!!! HORRIFIC!!!!!!! HORRIFIC! !!!!!!! !!!!!DO NOT GO HERE EVER, EVER, EVER!!!! I LEFT BLUE PEARL, PARAMUS WITHOUT MY DOG BECAUSE SHE WAS DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!.....NEED I SAY MORE!!!!!!!!!!!! I DO NOT WANT TO HERE FROM ANYONE AT BLUE PEARL IN RESPONSE TO MY POST!!!! DO NOT RESPOND TO MY POST!!!!!!!

The receptionists there are really bad. They have no idea what they are doing. My dog was transferred from other vet to there and they couldn't find info. Some other day I asked if I can visit my dog and the receptionist went to check and I was on hold for half an hour. I cut the line and call them right back again and her excuse was she thought we hung up.

Robert Tobin

BEST BEST animal hospital around. Saved my poor puppy with double pataller luxation. The surgeons are phenomenal and all the staff is courteous, professional and very knowledgeable. We visit quite often and never have had a bad experience. The people who bash this place have no idea what they're talking about.

A few wks ago there was a fire in my building. After being inside a smoke filled apartment for about five hours one of my cats was finally rescued. My sister took him to BluePearl as a precaution. After examining him it was recommended that he stay twenty four hours on oxygen. They would not admit him without being paid I believe $2100-$2300 up front, I don’t remember exactly. They called us the next day and recommended he stay another 24hrs for an additional two grand, which we declined. When we picked him up that evening there was a balance of over $300 we had to pay. In total we were charged close to $2600. Upon examining the bill my sister noticed we were charged two consultation fees each about $300, bc he came in as an emergency but then was transferred to critical care, so we were charged for the initial vet examining him and the second vet taking over his care. In addition she noticed we were charged for 24hrs of oxygen treatment, meanwhile he was taken to the hospital at 11pm on Thursday night, and picked up at 8pm Friday night, plus was taken off the oxygen at 4pm that afternoon, so not only was he not on oxygen for twenty-four hours, but he wasn’t even there for twenty-four hours. They did end up reimbursing us I believe $150 for the hours that we were initially charged that he wasn’t receiving oxygen. I get this is a business. But I feel my family was taken advantage of. When we picked him up the ladies at the front desk were saying that everyone had been talking about my cat and the fire. So they all knew what he had been through and what my family was going through. Even as we waited for him to be discharged the news was on in the waiting room and talking about the fire. Again, yes it’s a business, but that doesn’t mean you need to lack compassion and humanity. Not that I think we should have gotten anything for free, but $2600 is completely ridiculous. These people were totally insensitive to our circumstances, demanding payment upfront, charging us for services not even rendered, attempting to get another $2000 out of us unnecessarily. I’m grateful for the care that my cat received, but would not recommend BluePearl, as all they saw were dollar signs, instead of my cats’ health being their main concern, especially under the circumstances. They coldheartedly took advantage of the situation my family and I were (and still are) experiencing.

Rachel Caldwell

Awful experience. First time pet owner and the receptionist laughed at a question I had over the phone when I was clearly in shock and completely traumatized (crying and disoriented) after my cat was attacked by a dog. I went in anyway because it was my understanding this was the only emergency vet service in the area (which its NOT!). I arrived at 11 pm and was charged an arm and a leg for the simplest of services. They released my cat the next morning (we left at 1 am and they told me if I wasn't there by 8 am, more charges would be incurred) and luckily, I took him to another vet for a second opinion, Dr. Spain, at Blue Valley Animal Hospital, who informed me that if I would have taken my cat home, 90% chance he would have died that night or soon after! He also let me know that what they charged me $1,400 for, would have been about $300 or $400 at BVAH! Veterinarian that assisted me was not the most helpful. She gave very confusing information and kept talking about the money. Yes, money is a factor, but not when its a matter of life or death! I wouldn't have taken him to receive medical care in the first place if I was too broke to let him live! I really don't know how these people sleep at night when they are aware of the kind of scam they are running. My cat stayed at BVAH for a week for the same price I paid BluePearl for 7 hours! They prey on your love for animals and rob you blind. At least provide love and care to the animals and animal owners if you are going to charge the fees you charge!!! No follow up phone call after we left, no concern, no nothing! I will NEVER take my animal to Blue Pearl again!

Judy Gemes

We have been to Blue Pearl several times over the years with both dogs and cats. In every instance the staff have been kind, efficient and honest with us regarding treatments and probable outcomes. The doctors are skilled and knowledgeable, and all the staff is kind- making difficult situations as easy as possible. It's great to have a place to take pets when they need more involved care than your regular vet can provide, and when the other vets offices are closed.

Darla Samuelsen

My husband and I recently had to take our 14 year old dog to the emergency vet at 4am. We weren't going to go to this location b/c of the reviews, but it was the closest and our dog had a seizure in the car. I'm so glad we went to this vet. The staff (Dr. William Baker and Valerie) was great and handled us well given we were preparing for the inevitable. We knew we were going to have to put him down. The whole process from the minute we arrived in the parking lot to the minute we picked up his cremated remains was so smooth and effortless on our part. They didn't try to sell us on additional testing or services and they didn't try to sell us on his cremation. They provided us with options and guidance. They allowed us private time to say good bye to our family member. They even surprised us by providing a cast of his paw print when we picked up his urn.

Nicolas Lusardo

Very professional and super caring staff. We just had to put asleep our little dog and they we're extremely accommodating, explaining the entire process and allowing us to say goodbye to our little guy on our own time. We had previously brought him in for a diabetic episode and they were very prompt and transparent in his treatment and options moving forward. Highly recommend.

Anthony Morris

I had a horrible experience at BluePearl and It will haunt me for the rest of my life. They hired uncaring money hungry staff who treated my dog despicably. After being charged a bill in excess of $8,000, they gave me back my dog practically lifeless. I called them back several times to speak with the surgeon and the front desk assured me that he will call me back, but he never did. I was told he went home and he could not be reached. Dr. Monaco is extremely unprofessional and when I spoke to him, he told me he had to get home to eat dinner with his wife. My dog remains in a huge amount of pain and is suffering around the clock. I'm giving her pain medication but nothing is helping. Never bring your pet to this place! They're a big scam and i'm paying for it emotionally and financially.

Brenna Castor

They were fast and thorough. Made me feel very at ease. I have full confidence in this place.

Dillon Roark

Dr Riley is paws down the best veterinary surgeon I know.

Rose Ray

If I could give it a negative rating I would. We brought my cat in and immediately he was taken to the back to triage. The tech came out for paperwork then the doctor with an immediate plan of action with a $4000 bill attached. I don’t think he ever even looked at my cat. Then the tech left after saying she would be right back and was replaced by another tech who then tried to convince us why this course of action for 4 grand was necessary. Meanwhile, she had not even laid eyes on my cat. All we wanted was a prognosis and if there was hope to save him and all they wanted was $$$. We left and went to Animal Emegency Preffered Associates in Fairfield. The second we walked in we were seen and greeted by a doctor who wanted an X-ray right away. It was cancer that was so advanced and easy to catch. If you want bed side manor and people who actually care about animals and their humans, don’t go to blue pearl.

Heidi Williams

I was torn between 2 stars and 3 stars. When my cat needed to be placed on oxygen in an emergency after being sent over from our primary vet, I believe this hospital worked quickly to get him stabilized. I appreciate them for that! What I did not appreciate was the vet here jumping to a conclusion that my cat had maybe days to live and upsetting me on the spot before she had anything solid to go on! We went from the start of the visit to me thinking my cat was at his end, to them following up with a call a few hours later after they had gotten more concrete evidence and telling me it wasn't as serious as they had first thought. Seriously?! Get the facts straight before putting fear in someone like that! Ever since that initial visit, and I realize they are an ER clinic and I had to pay that price when I needed them in the emergency, but ever since then all I've gotten from them is terrible communication and them worrying more about what they would want to charge me for things my cat still needs, before then asking me "oh by the way how is your cat doing". I always read reviews online. Yes some are good and some are bad. I agree with most reviews for this hospital that state bad communication and they only care about the money. Based on my experiences with them, that is what I have gotten. I have since chosen not to go back to them and will not, unless goodness forbid I have another emergency with my kitty.

Donna Salvato

2nd time they eased our worried minds ❣️ No charge for worried parents! Absolutely the best!

Clint Kirkpatrick

I was very impressed by their support and kindness in the passing of our beloved pet. Thank you!

Melanie Williams

Absolutely disgusted that you charged an adopter of a rescue kitten nearly 3000 dollars for an atypical uri/pneumonia. This rescue will never recommend or use your services. In fact, we will be filing legal action. You should be ashamed of yourself for such blatant robbery.

We recently needed to have our dog seen at BluePearl to confirm if she tore her cranial cruciate ligament and discuss potential surgery. Our dog in fact needed surgery and we were able to schedule it the same week. As my husband and I are both K-State graduates, we explored whether the veterinary school would be a more cost effective option. We found there to be little difference once factoring in the cost of driving to and from Manhattan. Our dog's surgery went well and we were updated the entire time. She stayed overnight and we were able to pick her up the next morning. We were pleasantly surprised to find the final bill slightly less than the original quote based on our dog's size and as such, she required less anesthesia. We found all staff members to be very professional and caring. We will definitely seek BluePearl's advice and expertise should our dog require it in the future.

Kim Bagwell

Do not go to Blue Pearl! Our dog recently passed away, and, not having gone through anything like this before, we rushed him to Blue Pearl. From the moment we arrived until we left, my family and I felt as if all they care about is money. Only 1 person asked if we needed anything. They were what I call professionally nice. Outside of that, all they cared about was what cremation package we wanted and payment. Questions about those were asked by about 5 different people every 15 - 20 minutes while we were in shock and grieving over our dog. Money comes first at Blue Pearl! Stay away!

Tammy Reeder

I can’t say enough about Dr Davidson & his staff. We came in on an urgent basis after being to 2 other ER hospitals. Sadly, they gave us an answer of what was going on with our fur baby & it wasn’t something fixable. They made the experience as peaceful as they possibly could. They didn’t rush us & showed us a great deal of respect & compassion.

Great experience at this vest office. Good place fair prices. Other places in the area are a ripoff

Regina Roy

They did an amazing job with our little Bear and the girl one nights had a heart of gold. They were very gentle and compassionate

Kayla Balcom

Took my cat in who was clearly VERY sick. They said they couldn't find anything wrong with him. They wanted $1400 to do blood work, x-rays, and to keep him overnight (it was about 6pm at that point). We couldn't afford it of course. Fast forward to the next morning and my cat dies on the way to the hospital. Please find an alternative for your pet. Don't let your kitty or any other animal suffer like mine did.

Amelia Mimms

These people don’t care about your animals. All they want is money! All their prices are 3-5 times more than other vets in the area. They push services on you that you don’t need. They didn’t keep me informed and wouldn’t let me see my animal. I had to call multiple times to get discharge instructions. They documented that I refused services that weren’t offered. I would absolutely not recommend this place if you have another option.

sophie costello

Completely backwards ethics!! They cared more about profits than my own dog!!! Never EVER returning or recommending to anyone. IF YOUR PET IS GETTING SURGERY THERE GET A SECOND OPINION!!! This past Sunday I got home to Lawrence from the Chief’s game to find out my friends lost my dog and she got hit by a car. We rushed her to Blue Pearl because it was the closest open vet. I got there and handed over my fur baby. Fifteen minutes later the receptionist comes up to us- thinking I was about to get an update on my dog- says, “so yeah, all this is going to be more than $450, is that okay?” Yes, I am a young college student, but I still didn’t think it was appropriate to ask that in the waiting room, before any word on my dog. And yes of course I’m going to spend $450 to save my baby that why I was there. After an hour or so a Dr. took us into an empty exam room. I don’t remember her name but I should’ve gotten it- I was a little shooken up. She showed us her x-rays and our pup had multiple breaks to her pelvis and hips. She told us she would need $5,000 worth of surgeries. The whole time she was inappropriately talking to us with a grin on her face and even giggling when talking about the price?? All while I was bawling my eyes out. Then the vet told us we could either keep our injured dog there overnight for $1,500 or take her home. After we told her we wanted to take our dog home because we couldn’t afford $1,500 on top of $5,000 of surgery she needed she acted like having the surgery there would be our last option instead of doing everything in her power to help our dog or even go through options with us- like vets should!! The Vet also told us they would send us home with pain medication and fluids to keep her comfortable overnight- which they did not do. We left there feeling so hopeless and clueless. We paid $450 for pretty much nothing-even the other vets we talked to told us they took horrible x-rays, which was a huge chunk of the cost. We ended up taking her to K-State for the surgeries where they were the complete opposite!!! They aren’t charging us for keeping her there overnight and we even told them we couldn’t exactly afford all the surgery costs so they offered to pay $1.5k of the surgery!!! The vets at K-State also told us that our pup would only need one surgery instead of the 6+ surgeries Blue Pearl told us she needed. A lot of vets recommended blue pearl to us so they must be good at what they do, but they obviously care more about the money over the animals themselves. I wanted my dog to be in hands that would do anything in their power to help her and that truly cared. I know if we went to blue pearl for the surgery and told them we couldn’t afford the surgery they would send us home like they did before and not try to work with us. If money isn’t a barrier for you, they are probably great! But if you are in an emergency and don’t have the savings then I highly highly recommend driving the extra hour to Kansas State Vet school where they truly care about your pet. Again, if your pet is due to have surgery at Blue Pearl get a second opinion!!! They might be trying to do surgeries that don’t need to be done in order to milk money out of you.

Douglas Damico

I understand that this is a emergency facility, but I'd like to accompany my dog through his exam rather than be shafted off to wait in a waiting room. I trust their medical abilities, but I'm left totally unaware of how they handle my dog once they go behind those doors. I'd understand if it was a life threatening emergency, but I only came in to have his eye looked at.

Nicole

We brought our dog Buster to them after he had a medical emergency. After a long and painful decision we had to put Buster down. Never did they make us feel we were making the wrong decision. They were compassionate and respectful of this difficult decision. We received a card from Dr. Pennings today with a print of Buster's paw. This means so much to all of us.

Katie McKinney

We have used Blue Pearl for both ophthalmology and emergency services, and we couldn't be more pleased. Dr. Tolar is an amazing doctor, and all of the staff is friendly and helpful.

Tami Cummings

We went in thinking my dog was going to have a surgery for broken toes. After a consult with Dr. Millard we left with only a cast! He explained things thoroughly and answered all of our questions. We greatly appreciate him being up on the latest research and did not perform an unnecessary and costly surgery.

Dag Lengquist

Last night we discovered a feral cat in horrible pain. We first called the closest place, the hospital in Mission... what a joke, they wouldn't see him at all even to put this creature down unless we paid them. Having been to VSEC (Blue Pearl) before we went there. The worst was the case and indeed he needed to be put down. They did this and allowed us to pet him and give him as much love as possible during his final moments in this world. Dr Rich Aarstad after we first thought he might have been run over by our neighbors ran out to the car just before we left to tell us he'd been thinking about what had happened and he told us a blood clot had more than likely occurred in his lower back thus paralyzing him. He didn't need to go out of his way to run outside in the cold and rain, but he did and we all felt better afterwards. Thank you Rich. They don't always get it right, no place does. Some employees are better than others but in this case they did the right and moral thing.

agustin malo

Hands down this place is animals over money. i was left speechless. From entering the building, a beautiful spotless building. They Helped us with our cat Mocca for a FHO surgery. They took great care of him. We are very thankful for your help

This is my own experience and it will differ from others. I'm not going to talk about the front line workers because I didn't really interact with them. Are they expensive? Yes. BUT they are an emergency facility. You wouldn't complain about the price discrepancy between an ER and a standard clinic for people (or you shouldn't). They are expensive because they need to handle unique/fringe cases and do so at all hours. The doctors were clear and tempered our expectations but always provided us updates on our pet's health and kept us up to date on our financials. We've been there a couple of times, unfortunately. They delivered great service and worked with us as best they could while attending to our pet's needs.

Jill Bartram

We brought in our 13 year old, very large and very sick dog to be put down. The entire experience couldn't have been handled any better. From the initial phone call, to arriving at the facility, to being led to a quiet room, to giving us time with our beloved Zeke, to the pain free and peaceful end of his life, you all were professional, respectful, compassionate and ultra kind. Thank you Dr. Blouin and your wonderful associates, for making our boy feel comfortable and loved. You made a very difficult day a bit easier for us.

rsoltero 24

Such a great staff who treat the animals with love and respect. We went through the painful experience of having to put our dog down and they were extremely sympathetic and accommodating. Dr Smock did the procedure. I can't express enough how wonderful Dr Smock's bedside manner was during the procedure as she soothed our dog while she told us what was going to happen step by step. We will now go to this clinic for any future pet visits. A heart felt thank you to the entire staff.

I was very disappointed with the ethics at Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners. You should exhaust all possibilities before taking your beloved pet here. Although, if you have a lot of money they would probably be great. I called their north clinic when my dog was whelping. They told me I would have to go to the south clinic due to if she needed a c-section, the south clinic would have someone on staff able to perform one. I drove from the Gladstone area to the Overland Park clinic only to be told there was only one vet on staff at that time and he would have to call in a surgeon which would be between $4-5K. When I responded we couldn’t afford that, I was pretty much told I was out of luck. Frantically, I texted my regular vet Dr. Wingert at Independence Animal Hospital who responded within minutes he would meet me at his office at 7:15am on a Sunday. He did the c-section and spayed my dog for $1000. We have 11 healthy Bernese Mountain Dog puppies and a healthy mama thanks to Dr. Wingert at Independence Animal Hospital. Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners would have let them all die. Their staff is also very rude, including the vet on staff. We were there around 5am on 9/2/18. Beware of using their emergency services. It was a miracle the delay they caused didn’t have fatal effects in our case. I would never use their services again.

My wife and I had to rush our sheltie, Daphne, to BluePearl in the middle of the night because of her labored breathing. A staff member met us at the door and immediately took Daphne back. Dr. Jennifer Ringenberg took exceptional care of our little girl by explaining what was going on. Unfortunately, because of many more complications Dr. Ringenberg found and informed us about, we had to make the choice to let her go, allowing her to cross the Rainbow Bridge. I cannot say enough about BluePearl. They were compassionate and attentive to ours and our little girl's needs.

Dennis Cooper

We had to euthanize our dog a few weeks ago. It was a very urgent matter that escalated quickly and required fast action. As sad and as emotional as the situation was, it was met with tons of warmth and comfort from Blue Pearl! The team rushed out to grab him from the car when we arrived, the front desk helped expedite our paperwork and processing of information upfront and payment at the end of our visit, and a HUGE thanks to Dr. Losev who performed the euthanasia. Dr. Losev was compassionate and showed a huge heart for our dog but also for my wife and I as owners. He offered clarity and honest advice, and he helped make a terribly difficult day a bit better. I would recommend Dr. Losev and Blue Pearl to any and every one. We will be lifetime patients of Blue Pearl!

Our 15 year old maine coon cat could have died from recommended Catlax and neglect to follow up. We drove 2 hours to this clinic because of a recommendation. Our cat was being seen for a mass on his rectome. DR Viebrock diagnosed that it was a hernia and recommended that he go on a special wet food diet only and that he take Catax everyday for the rest of his life and said he might need surgery to repair the hernia. She also ordered a full panel of blood work be done. We got the blood work done and left 2 messages with the clinic to speak with DR. Viebrock about going ahead with the surgery which is $3000 starting out. We were also concerned because our cat had lost more then half his body weight since he was seen by DR. Viebrock and we were wondering if it could be because of the Catlax. No one returned our calls on this matter so I went into the clinic on the 9th of March to ask if there was any other stool softener we could give our cat other then Catlax and we were thinking about going ahead with the surgery. I spoke with a VERY RUDE lady at the front desk that laughed at me for asking about the Catlax. She said DR. Viebrock was busy and if I wanted to talk about his diet I would have to make another appointment and bring our cat in for another visit. That they couldn't just give out diet information for free. I was extremely upset and worried about my now skelton of a cat. I told her that I had just got $200 worth of labs done the day before on the 8th of March because DR. Viebrock had recommended that we do that. I also said we were going to go ahead with the hernia repair. She wrote a note for DR. Viebrock and said she would call me. This is now the 25th of March and I still haven't received a call back. Another VET in the town we live in determined that the Catlax that DR. Viebrock recommended was blocking our cat from absorbing any nutrient there for all the weight loss. Our cat is already suffering and due to this clinic he is now suffering even more! I would not take your animal here. They are insensitive and only care about money. And they will not follow up if there is a problem.

We've just had a second excellent experience with the orthopedic team at Blue Pearl. Our Sophie had her 2nd CCL repair surgery and we were again treated with kindness and empathy by Dr Heather Millard and her team. It's expensive, which certainly adds to the stress of the whole situation but I would feel more stress if I felt like my furkid wasn't receiving quality care. I'm so terrible with names but from the surgery appointment setter to the ladies at checkout, everyone is wonderful. The whole team is kind, empathetic, and extremely knowledgeable. This is clearly not just a job to anyone we've met. We've never felt rushed or like we've left with questions. Much appreciated. We're looking forward to having Soph zoomie-ready again soon after a really tough year.

Had to bring my pet in unexpectedly and was thankful to receive thoughtful and thorough care. After a handful of tests the results and diagnosis were clearly explained all in just a few hours. Given a treatment with instructions along with documents containing their findings that you can share with your regular vet. Glad I can trust bringing my pets here.

Everything was perfect. Thank you all so much.

Actually I haven't been there yet... I have decided not to go because of all the horrible ratings. No matter all the positive experiences people might have had, there is no excuse to have all these negative ones and for the deaths of so many animals unexpectedly... and in such a short time. I was happy to have found this place after our experiences at Metro Animal Hospital where Scott Campbell essentially experimented on our gorgeous and sweet dog overnight not exactly the same words to use to put similar, and when we picked her up she could make no sounds. We really do believe that he cut her vocal cords. She was so unhappy with us she would have nothing to do with me and we were BFFs before. I went to pick her up outside in the pouring rain under a bush and practically had to drag her out and when I got it on the porch she tried to hide from me. I cannot imagine what experience you had that was so horrible that you would have nothing to do with me her favorite someone ever. She really love me and we had left her in the hands of a horrible doctor. Also they gave us a price for a surgery for her and when we finally said yes they went back and she was already strapped on the table with Ivy's either in her arms are ready for it and was beside herself. We didn't even know she was going to have surgery and we wanted to say something to her before then. And then she was going back and came up with double the amount as opposed to original amount that we need to pay so from 1300 to 2600 in a matter of minutes. Also caused the ill treatment of a dog before that one that died shortly thereafter. We just thought we didn't understand enough about the disease, but I don't think it was that at all. Another $2,000 or more for minimal and ineffective surgery. I would never set foot in there again and obviously not BluePearl now

My dachshund had a slipped disc. Blue Pearl did the surgery and he was back to his normal self within two days

They were very kind, understanding and accommodating..I had to make the unfortunate decision to euthanize my beloved miniature dachshund Daisy May. A very sincere Thank You to all the staff at Blue Pearl both past and present, we'd always had the best of care for 5 years..

Would give 0 stars if I could. Stay away from this place. Took my dog in and they completely missed that she needed stitches and her lower lip was completely detached from her mouth after diagnosing fractured teeth. They do not care about your dog.

First time needing an emergency vet and it was 1:30 in the morning. The staff and the vet doctor were so welcoming, understanding and empathetic...even when I had to make the decision to euthanize my tabby cat, Tumas. It was heartbreaking to have to do but I was glad they were able to stop my poor cat's suffering humanely and with compassion.

My little one got into some poison. We didn't know it. There... was no way to save her. The staff and Dr. at Blue Pearl were impeccable in their service and kindness in an unbearably difficult time.

As hard as this is to write I must. I lost two dogs in one month. Both treated there. The first visit went fine. 3 days ago I brought my dog who was sick I was a walk In. They weren’t that busy. Didn’t wait long to get back to a room. This was about 1:00 in the afternoon. It took awhile for the doctor to come in and get my information. They took Sadie back. They said she needed an echocardiogram with the cardiologist I said ok. So it was hot in there I felt sick so I sat in the waiting room watching walk In come in not emergencies. So as the hours went on and nothing. I keep asking they said they had emergencies which they did not. Now it’s 4:00 and nothing. No echo no blood work nothing. I’m wilting like an old rose and worried out of my mind. So the echo was done the cardiologist never talked to me. I asked if they would bring my dog to me they did and I could see she wasn’t doing well so i decided she needed to spend the night. Finally the dr came after 6:00 said it was bad gave me a price of $3,800 to over $5,000 to keep her there for 4 days I was so tired not thinking and would do anything for my dog. Long story shorter they called in the morning thought it best I send her to God.of course loosing two dogs in a month is beyond sad. So after two dats I called about the $3,800 which I was told I would not be charged that. So it’s day four still no credit to mt Amex. As I sat there all day I wonder is it just a money making operation. They worked on her tops an hour and one overnight. So the bill has been disputed with Amex I will pay but not close to that. So make sure when you go you don’t sit there worrying for over six hours while there taking care of wal ins. Sorry I had to write this but money does not grow on trees.

My 12 year old Golden Retriever had been slowly declining. I came home one Saturday to find him panting heavily and called my vet. Since it was a weekend they were not available to help with my dog and referred me to BluePearl. I called and the staff was very helpful. I ended up having to take him in to be put down; something I'd never had to do before. The staff helped me get him out of my car and immediately took him back for an exam. The vet came back and explained what was wrong as well as my options. They were genuinely sad for me losing my pet and gave me time alone with my dog. What was one of the worst days I have experienced in a while was made so much easier by the wonderful and caring staff at BluePearl. I highly recommend them to anyone who wants their pet to be treated and cared for like family.

My husband brought our senior kitty in on Saturday, October 13th. He was previously diagnosed with kidney disease and doing very poorly. I came around 30 minutes later, as I had to leave work early for this emergency. Unfortunately, we had to make the incredibly difficult choice to end his suffering. Redford was my best friend; my baby. During the counseling about euthanasia, we were told we could get a myriad of different products from the company doing the cremation. We opted to have a private cremation and asked specifically for a clay impression of his paw print. Repeatedly, throughout the entire process, I stated I wanted a clay paw print and an inking of his paws. As I signed the paperwork for Rolling Acres, I asked again where the box was for a clay paw print and was reassured we would get one. They then pushed for me to just sign it without inspection. The entire time we were being counseled and signing paperwork, my cat was kept away from me. From the time my husband called to let me know Redford was in distress until the time they brought him in for the euthanasia, I wasn’t allowed to be with my cat. Why, under the circumstances, would you not allow me to see my cat sooner? Today, Blue Pearl called to let me know my sweet boy was ready to be picked up. At pickup, we were informed that there was no paw print made. In speaking to the company responsible for the cremation, we found out that the clay paw print was never requested. It wasn’t anywhere present on the paperwork. This is completely the fault of Blue Pearl. My best friend is gone and I have NOTHING because the staff at Blue Pearl failed to communicate what I was absolutely adamant about. All I wanted was a clay print. Additionally, our invoice from Blue Pearl states that cremation costs $255 - which seems to be a bit of a scam since Rolling Acres charges $150 for pets under 50 pounds. I’m not sure where the other $105 goes. Nothing about our experience is positive. They refused to listen to us and did anything necessary to push us through the process. Blue Pearl takes advantage of grieving pet parents. Edit to add: Paul did follow up with me after chasing him down repeatedly and calling Blue Pearl over and over. He called from a blocked number. During our conversation, he continually rudely told me "there's nothing I can do about it now," and "I don't know what you want." Paul's demeanor with me was not one of a person who has made a mistake - it was one of someone who does not believe they have made a mistake and would prefer to continue blaming the other person. It was clear that speaking with me was simply checking a box after my review. During our call, he told me that Blue Pearl does not offer any options for pet memorials because their source (Rolling Acres) does not offer anything. After speaking with Rolling Acres, we know that is indeed not the case. (Rolling Acres, on the other hand, bent over backwards to address what wasn't even their mistake.) So, despite, the fact that the person at Blue Pearl who counseled us about the euthanasia said that we could get a variety of products for our memorial, Paul told me Blue Pearl offers nothing. We were told we could not receive a refund because we "did not pay for a clay paw print so there was nothing to refund." Paul offered to make a donation to the Arbor Day society to "make up for" their mistakes. As my husband stated, this still in no way absolves them of all of their heinous mistakes and our poor treatment the night we lost Redford. I will never take another animal to Blue Pearl, regardless of cost or convenience.

I'll update this review once we've actually been to the clinic - so far I've been able to speak with several 'schedulers' and 'receptionists' that are pretty rude and ignorant. It took me being overly assertive and making a point of how rude and stupid my inquiries were received to even get a sliver of very minimum assistance. Too bad the front line folks misrepresent the potential the veterinarians might have...hoping to up the Stars for my review, so 'to be continued'.

I called with a question regarding medications after having moved from Rhode Island. My dog takes benadryl and loperamide as needed prescribed by our vet in RI and then previcox from our vet in KY. He was having diarrhea (after eating my sister's dogs food- he's on prescription diet and bland foods so of course it messed his stomach up) and a bad allergy outbreak (it is spring time) so i didnt want him to suffer over night if i could give him his as needed medication with the previcox. With the vet closed I wasnt sure how to get interaction information. Needless to say they were literally ZERO help. Couldn't give advice over the phone, I mean its BENADRYL for crying out loud. So after some research online I asked a vet at a reputable online veterinary (trust me I did a lot of research on them) and was told it was absolutely no problem. How can they tell me without seeing my dog first, but this place can't? It makes this place feel like it's all about money, unconcerned with the actual Welfare of pets. My answer would've taken 2 seconds, I really hope I never have to go there for something serious.

Blue Pearl's only merit is that it provides emergency services overnight and on holidays. However, I have not had good experiences here. I question the competency of the staff - a few months ago, one vet tried to explain my dog's sudden seizure by the presence of the full moon (debunked pseudoscience that did not get close to explaining my dog's actual condition, hypothyroidism). Most recently, I brought both of my dogs in for possibly ingesting medication. Neither of my dogs have ever had an incident at a vet and but they both left traumatized. One of my dogs was supposed to stay on fluids for three days but after seeing how traumatized she was by the staff and, most troublingly, seeing a vet tech yank her by the leash and call her a "bad dog" in front of us, we opted to take her home and administer fluids on our own. (She is doing well now after receiving care from our regular vet, where we discovered that my other dog was placed on unnecessary medications, seemingly for Blue Pearl's profit.) I am appalled by the actions of the staff at Blue Pearl, as was my personal vet when I spoke with her about it after the fact. I could not ever recommend taking your pet to Blue Pearl unless you are in a serious emergency with no other options. If you do have to go to Blue Pearl, take your pet out and go to your regular vet as soon as possible. Their well-known price gouging practices are not nearly as terrible as their treatment of sick, scared animals.

Just to be clear, the surgeons that are called in at Blue Pearl are board certified veterinary surgeons. This means they did extra specialized training in veterinary surgery (3 or more years of just surgery in addition to the 4 years of veterinary school) in order to be the absolute best in their field. This isn't to say that the Jefferson vets aren't qualified to perform the surgery that was necessary on your dog, but it is important to understand that when a person who is a specialist is performing a procedure, that is where some of the cost difference/calling-in comes into play. I have no affiliation with Blue Pearl but am in the veterinary field and feel it is important to clarify this.

Often, Whenever the employees take the trash or recycling out they have a smoke. To each their own but then the smoke blows throughout the parking lot AND the apartments nearby. Unpleasant.

Alexandria Curry

We brought our 3 month great dane in to be evaluated for a wound since our regular vet couldn't fit us in and was pretty sure they would have to refer us here anyway. The staff were friendly and prompt. They only offered the services that were necessary (a shave and cleaning out of the area) and we were on our way with peace of mind and antibiotics. The price we were charged was fair for an after hours, emergency vet visit and they made a stressful situation easy for us. Thank you for your help!

A little over 2 weeks ago we had to bring our sweet boy to BluePearl at 9pm on a Saturday. Sadly, he was past saving due to his injuries, however the staff there was incredible and made sure we were fully aware every step of the way. Dr. Stamper was amazing and I would bring my boy back there just for his regular vet care if he was still with us. Would definitely recommend to a friend.

PLEASE READ IF YOU WANT YOUR (SICK) PET TO STAY ALIVE My dog suffered from lymphoma. At blue pearl, we had to pay 2,000 for her to stay overnight, as well as 5,000 upfront for medication, which she never got to use. On a Friday, she wasn’t doing well, so we took her in to have her blood work done. The results came back supposedly fine, but the rest of the day she was acting weird. but then that Saturday she didn’t eat. That Sunday she woke up and was in very bad conditions so we took her in. We waited 30 minutes for her to be looked at. They took her and did an x-ray. We waited for about an hour for the results. We then heard she died. She ‘supposedly’ had a blood clot in her lung that they didn’t take care of, and they set my dog up for death. She could’ve lived for another 6 months but that precious time was taken away from her. We were never given a direct diagnosis of what happened to her, and when they told us the news of her death they kept asking for more money while we were crying about our dog. This place only cares about the money, and set our dog up for death. If you are considering coming here for your pet’s surgery/immediate need, please read the 1 star reviews because a large amount of people have had the same problem. This place has misdiagnosed numerous pets, overcharges, and were not one bit sympathetic about the loss of our pet.

The staff promptly took our cat into care on a weekend night when things took a turn for the worse. I felt that the prices were fair and the staff was sincere.

The best. We went both to ER & speciality clinics for follow up care. The doc's are very knowledgable & have years of experience. The staff is friendly and also very dedicated & knowlegable. Our special family companion had surgery there with Dr Weinstein, cared by Dr Viebrok in ICU, & had rehab in PT with Connie, the physical therapist. All ICU & PT staff were excellent in their care & go the extra mile. Front desk is also very friendly & responds promptly to emergencies. I highly recommend. I'd like to add another review. The dental team here is outstanding. Dr Modrcin is one of the few board certified in state. But in addition to this, our elderly 15 yr old shitzu got the absolute best care under Dr Modrcin & his assistant Valerie! She has over 30 yrs experience, and 20 yrs at Blue Pearl. Dr. Modrcin also has over 30+ yrs experience. In addition, Valerie was there every minute during & after surgery and also combed him & clipped his nails! (Perfect time to do - as our dog fights this). Needless to say - this is the best team ever. Highly recommend.

Dr Riley did surgery on my dog. Dr Riley was recommended as one of two outstanding orthopedic surgeons in Kansas by several veterinarians. It’s only been a few days so far but I am extremely happy with my dogs care.

Our puppy ate a pack of gum - and knowing Xylitol was an ingredient we figured we'd need to take her in to a vet hospital. We called Blue Pearl's North KC location and they told us to come in immediately and that they would need to purge it from her system. We then determined Blue Pearl OP was closer to us, so my husband started driving with our girl while I called the hospital to give them a heads up. The woman on the phone told me I would need to contact "Poison Control" even though BP in North KC told us to get her in ASAP. I told her I'd give them a call while my husband was on his way. I called Kansas Poison Control's 800 number, and the man on the line told me about a case with a dog who ate a "large amount of gum" and had seizures, so it would be best to take her in. I figured this was all the info we needed, so I called my husband to let him know he could tell the folks at Blue Pearl that we did indeed call "Poison Control." When he got there with our dog, they told him they'd need a case number, but they could go ahead and get started on her immediately. He couldn't get a hold of the number I called for Poison Control for some reason, so I called in and got a case number. In the meantime he found a number for the ASPCA poison control line which cost us $75 just for the call. When I called him back with the KS Poison Control case #, he told me that ASPCA said the specific type of gum our dog ate didn't even have enough Xylitol to harm a chihuahua. So, we've spent $75 plus whatever Blue Pearl charges us (and based on the reviews here, I'm expecting a large bill) for no reason at all, and we've put our dog under unnecessary stress. Would have been WONDERFUL for Blue Pearl to tell us up front which "Poison Control" we actually needed to call, but maybe that meant they would lose money on a potential patient. Either way, this place needs to be way more clear in the up front for concerned pet owners. Very disappointed with our experience.

I went to Blue Pearl today for my sick cat because I could not wait until Monday when my regular vet was open. They were so friendly and got me in right away, there were a few others in the waiting room as well. I saw Dr. Kristen Holcomb-Wallace who was awesome. She explained everything to us before doing it and seemed to go above and beyond. My cat was in and out in an hour even with getting an ultrasound and multiple shots. The cost was reasonable and honestly not much more than my regular vet qouted me. Thank you so much Blue Pearl!

Priya Nibert

I’ll be honest - I hate coming here. I don’t know how they do it day in and day out and stay so positive. The doctors and techs are very honest and approachable. Most importantly they know their stuff. We have had different outcome the two times we have been here, but both times felt like we were well cared for. Yes it’s expensive but I never feel taken advantage of.

Lenora Wuattoux

24 hour service, also highly recommended by other Vets. Their services are top of the line. Pet insurance is a must, should you be financially challenged.

Cee Jay

Simple. I'm deeply indebted to Blue Pearl Paramus - and they made me deeply in debt. They successfully diagnosed, treated, and hospitalized my dog from a low survival-rate bacterial infection - Leptospirosis. They were 'less expensive' in their estimates than Oradell (where I had just left) - although - still COSTLY. $8000 for 4 nights stay and tests etc. etc. So, you get HOSPITAL INSURANCE (which I didn't have) to avoid those high-costs if you want to complain. I took the gamble and lost - but my dog didn't. She won - and she's all back to best-of-health thanks to their great care. How do you expect them to afford leasing all that expensive medical equipment you don't see behind the 'Employees Only' entry? BTW - nice, modern waiting room.

Jeannie McDermott

The physical therapist and her staff are very knowledgeable and caring. Our dog has really benefited from their services. For the amount of time they spend with our dog, their prices are reasonable.

Jacob

i had to put my friend to sleep. the staff treated me with such respect and compassion. hopefully i will never have to go there again.

Lauren Keene

It was an emergency vet clinic with emergency vet clinic prices. My 1.5 year old puppy had labored breathing and vomiting. She's very attached to me, but they wouldn't let me stay with her and instead dragged her into a room and closed the door. I didn't get to see how they treated her beyond the door. Staff was ordering food and having personal conversations while I was waiting to pay. Was there for about an hour. Left with $440 less than I arrived with. I can't attest to their knowledgeability. I had already learned everything they had told me over Google in the 15 minutes before taking her in. In an emergency, it's almost your only option for this area. But know that you're not going to get top level, personalized, or inexpensive treatment here. Doctor who returned my puppy to me was very friendly.

Carl Rowland

They are awesome people. Very compassionate and understanding. Treated our Bruiser with love and respect. Won't ever go anywhere else. All of the staff was professional and caring. We will miss our Bruiser but know he received the best care anyone could ask for.

Linda Wittmer

We left this facility with our dog in worse condition than when we initially brought her in. Our dog was brought to the hospital because she appeared to be breathing hard. After blood work, chest x ray and pancreatitis test. We were given the option of taking.her home and watching her breathing ourselves. Was told she was given a shot for nausea and some fluids. She was handed to us with saliva dripping from her mouth and vocalizing. Upon leaving told by the front desk that it was normal she was drooling and making loud noises because they had given her a shot. Called facility and was told to give her prescribed pain meds and if she wasnt better come back in. We returned within a very short time. Our dog was vocalizing and in severe distress (wasnt her condition when we brought her in). We made the very difficult decision to have her put down (she just turned 17 years). I would NEVER recommend this facility. We paid the bill of over $1,000 that night, but worse thing is knowing our dog suffered a great deal because of the actions of this facility.

Renee Barron

They did a horrible job dealing with the passing of my pet cat. The Doctor had no time to talk with us. Apparently if they can't save your pet and make more money they don't care to spend time with you explaining what happened. And we asked for a cast paw print..which never happened..and we only found out after she was cremated. I;ve had a lot of experience with specialty vets and emergency vets over my years of pet ownership. Blue Pearl Overland Park is the worst experience I have ever had.

Bonnie Sandefer

The front desk ladies are amazing. Upbeat and sweet. Dr Richard Aarstad was informative and kind. He made sure we had the time to discuss Slicks care. We had to leave him overnight and they allowed us to go back and visit. They made us feel so comfortable to make the decision to let him stay over. I would highly suggest taking your pets here.

Julie Jeanes

I was referred to blue pearl because they were supposed to have the leading specialists. I could not be more disappointed in my experience. The care my dog received is beyond substandard. He has had significant problems since his initial surgery and it has been extremely costly. He has had 2 surgeries and 2 sedated procedures due to complications from the original procedure. I expressed concern during the entire process but felt dismissed and ignored. I lost all confidence in the staff at blue pearl and took my dog somewhere else to have the problem fixed. I definitely would not recommend blue pearl to anyone.

UPDATE: I would like to further iterate how incredible Dr. Beverly is, as far as quality of care is concerned. Despite shifting the care of our dog back to our primary vet, he called on his day off to check in on our dog. I am blown away by the care and compassion demonstrated by Dr. Beverly. I have never received such compassionate and thorough care from a Vet, even our primary vet. Our dog had an eye issue that was dealt with promptly. However, after she had an extremely negative reaction to one of the medications, we had to come back again. The staff quickly addressed her, made sure all her vitals were ok, and allowed us to hang around with her for a few hours to ensure she was ok. The prices were very reasonable, no more or less than our primary vet. You never hope to have to come to a place like this, but when an emergency happens, I wouldn't hesitate to come back here again. A special shoutout to Dr. Beverly, one of the most professional vets you could ever hope to encounter.

I took my cat in to Blue Pearl because I suspected he had a UTI and my regular veterinarian was closed. Kaitlin Redmon was on duty. The staff took my cat to the back and I was asked to wait in an exam room for the doctor. When she came in, she said he did not have a UTI, but something called FLUTD (Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease). She also stated he may have bladder stones and that they wanted to xray him at $200. I declined the xray because I knew I could get him in to see my regular vet the next day. She prescribed a pain med and an antispasmodic and sent him home. I took him to my regular vet the next day. He did have a UTI, blood in his urine that Dr. Redmon failed to mention, no bladder stones, and my regular vet put him on antibiotics to treat it. I have had an outdoor cat die in the past from an untreated UTI. Had I followed this veterinarian's recommendations, my cat could have gotten worse and possibly died. I am glad I trusted my instincts. UTIs are fairly common in male cats and even an inexperienced vet should be able to diagnose it. I will never return to this hospital for emergency care again.

We had surgery for our dog’s front leg. Prognosis is good and the staff weee very pleasant. This is an ER, so just like for people a wait is normal, and we experienced one as well. Our dog had a compound fracture and they brought him back and gave him some pain meds almost immediately. We did not see anyone for a while, and I had to approve the cost of the X-ray before they did it. Blue Pearl is NOT cheap, but they were open and our Astro needed help, and they did a nice job. Follow up Care was also a decent experience and followed the cost estimate they gave us.

My dog Ruger I believe had been bit by a snake, I couldn't catch it and I was panicked. I was in Louisville on Vaca from Michigan, I called a vet they said get him to Blue Pearl immediately! That vet precalled Blue Pearl for me. We arrived 15 minutes later and they were waiting for us. I was greeted with an introduction as well a hand shake. It was a non venomous bite. Ruger is well and I'm forever grateful for all the staff at Blue Pearl. They were professionable, very kind and considerate. Blue Pearl even called me a few days later to inquire about Rugers condition. Thank you everyone at Blue Pearl

Having never used emergency veterinary services before, my husband and I were not sure what to expect when our beloved 12 year old lab, Keykey, collapsed and lost control of her back legs leaving her immobilized. After monitoring her for a couple hours we knew she needed help we couldn't give her. Honestly, we chose Blue Pearl because of its proximity to our home and their availability in the early hours on a holiday. But after our experience there, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone I know. The staff met us at our car to carry her inside. She was taken back immediately for examination and the vet was back with an update before our registration was even complete. After completing her examination, Dr. Cullman very patiently explained her diagnosis. While it wasn't good news, and we were forced to make the hardest decision we've ever had to make, the compassion and care we were treated with were so appreciated during such a difficult time. I am not one to typically review a business online, but I can't let Dr. Blaire Cullman's loving care of my sweet girl go without expressing my sincere appreciation. When I arrived home today there was a sympathy card in my mailbox with a beautiful hand-written note from Dr. Blaire. My sincerest thanks for giving Keykey the dignified sendoff she so greatly deserved.

Before = 5 After = 0 Before the service and while your pet is there they are amazing I would recommend them 100/10 times. After the service and spending thousands...... good luck!!! In your most vulnerable time while your loved one is there you will love this place like I did. I called anytime and I mean anytime. I woke up worried at 1:30am and called and they answered. But........ after you pay...... good luck getting anyone to care about you any longer.

Erica

The worst. Love that I spent over 500 dollars here for me to take my dog to my veterinarian the next day and for them to tell me my dog has kennel cough, not an obstruction. They were ready to cut my dog open and start exploratory surgery. DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMALS HERE. Totally incompetent.

Annie Homan

I would not recommend this clinic as a first choice. There is another emergency veterinary service in Louisville that has specialists. I brought a four-year-old mixed breed dog in for what was a suspected trauma to his eye. He had been out running in fields and (like a dummy) I allowed him to put his head out of the car window for part of the ride home. Immediately after our outing he had eye discomfort, and my local vet recognized the pressure in his eye was greatly increased. My vet could not see trauma with his instruments, so he recommended specialty services to get a better look at the eye. The vet who examined the dog at Pearlblue seemed confident it was not trauma that had caused the problem – but more likely a fungal infection or a cancer or something. I questioned this but he ruled out trauma since there was no sign blood or hemorrhage. He gave me a quote of almost $1600.00 to test for fungal infection and do imaging for cancer which could be causing the increased pressure. I trusted his advice and agreed. I became very skeptical when two hours later a technician came to tell me the vet had forgotten to include the cost of blood work and an initial treatment for possible fungal infection. She explained it would be around $425.00 additional cost. With this added “forgotten” cost, I tried to see if I could forgo the imaging for cancer (after all, the dog is only 4) but it had already been done. I felt cornered and agreed to pay. I ended up paying a total of $2,079.00 by the time my dog got released. As for their medication treatment: They recommended starting treatment for a possible fungal infection (Itraconazole) to be on the safe side. I thought this was a reasonable precaution. However, Pearlblue’s charge for a daily dose (2 pills) was $50.00. Walgreens charged me $25.00 for the same dosage. An owner of a local pharmacy who knows I’m a teacher who took in a rescue dog, agreed to sell me the Itraconazole at cost and it was less than $3.00 for two pills! Another medication the doctor at Pearlblue prescribed had different dosages on the bottle versus the discharge instructions – which could have been very bad had I not read discharge instructions carefully and called to clarify. As for doggo: the eye pressure did not resolve and within a few days my local vet needed to remove the eye. The pathology showed trauma, small penetration injury but no infection. The dog is completely comfortable and back to his happy dog routines! I just regret I took him to Pearlblue rather than the other clinic which offers ophthalmology services. I think we may have had a clearer idea of what we were deciding about and ultimately saved several hundred dollars. I'm giving it two stars because the front desk folks were fine and another vet who provided quick pain relief for my dog was compassionate.

Great veterinary center with great doctors and techs. However, they need to hire some new front desk receptionists. A gentleman brought in a puppy that he found on the street and when he walked out, the lady said to the other receptionist "Do they think this is a f***ing puppy shelter?" Terrible, snarky attitudes that have no business in customer service. The whole time we were sitting in the waiting room, we could overhear them talking bad on other customers.

So pleased with the service and staff at this facility. We were referred from the vet in Elizabethtown after another dog attached ours at the dog park and left him with a laceration on the nose and eye. They are very informative throughout the entire process and even if we hadn’t gone ahead and done the surgery to repair our dogs eye at this facility they were very passionate about finding someone who would.

Great care for your loved ones!

The Dr.s here are about high pressure sales for expensive procedures. They do not care about the animals or the family. We waited for a long time in the room, they did not tell us what was going on or what they were doing to my dog. The Dr. we had was basically a used car salesman, do what I recommend now or euthanize. No offer for a second opinion and told me not to call my own vet about the case. DO NOT GO HERE, they care about money not animals. The Dr. gave a diagnosis, no details, did not answer questions just kept telling us how much and now, now, now. It was very clear he did not want to help, just euthanize and move on to the next sales pitch.

I can’t even talk my heart is broken. I will share with you the horrific experience my kids and I endured from your heartless staff. I took my dog in on 4/27/19 at approx 7am in a panic I googled the closet animal hospital to my house and I will regret that chose forever. I would never recommend BluePearl to anyone and after church I shared my story with my friend and they had a very similar encounter with your staff. Your staff is what I call professionally nice but outside of that all they cared about was money. Dr. Rizzo did tell me to reach out to my vet but it was too little to late and I feel in my heart and soul BluePearl knew that. I witnessed Jess at the counter call back on her headset and say Diamonds mom made the partial payment so did my dog suffer? Was someone even tending to her during the time I was on the phone making numerous calls borrowing money to try and save my baby. I know it doesn’t matter and you all don’t care I paid over $1000 and try wrapped my baby in a blanket she died in less than 3 hours. I’m telling any and everyone I know unless you have money BluePearl trests you like your nobody and your pet doesn’t matter. Shame on your staff no one comforted me or my kids but Jess sure kept pressing me about the signing paperwork and making a payment. I know I’m a nobody to you but my dog was somebody to me and my family. Our experience was worst and I feel my race played a factor as well I hate I took my Dog there and I pray she will forgive me someday.

If it were possible I would give this place 0 stars. DO NOT GO HERE! These people do not care about your dog at all. I came here a couple days ago because my dog had a severe allergic reaction. I was recommended to come here by Banfield Animal Hospital which is located in your local PetSmart, now that is a whole different review within itself. Needless to say I should have waited until my regular vet opened and taken him there. I was so worried about my dog that I rushed to Blue Pearl. For a 5 minute consultation which cost $185 (more than the $40 steroid that did nothing to my dog but made him worse) I felt like they just wanted money. The next day my dog’s condition worsened to which I called Blue Pearl and the nurse I had spoken to had the audacity to simply say “Well you can bring him back to see the doctor OR go to your regular vet, up to you”. Are you serious? No sympathy, no compassion, no willingness to genuinely help. Again do not take your dog here, whatever you do DONT. Go to your regular vet!

We found ourselves in a bit of an emergency this evening. My spouse had gone fishing with his dad and our oldest son and took our dog with them. I got a call around 11pm that our dog had ingested a fish hook that had bait on it, causing it to get stuck in his tongue. We called our local vets office and they quoted us at least $1500 upfront!!! After asking for other recommendations we found the Blue Pearl and boy am I so glad we did!!! After a few long hours, our baby is safe and all better and we didn’t have to sell any of our limbs to take care of him. Thank you doesn’t seem like enough. This place is absolutely amazing and without them, we might not be bringing our dog home! Kudos Blue Pearl! We will definitely be recommending them in the future!

Olivia Searcy

My mother took her dog here today due to the dog vomiting and having blood in feces. They told her the dog had an upset stomach and sent her home within 10 mins. Only hours later the dog passed away. Obviously their diagnosis was way off.

Hannah Kouri

I took my dog here shortly after she had been throwing up consistently when I got home from work one night. The staff was wonderful and very informative. Even when I called and called to check my dogs condition, they were very patient with me and kind. Most importantly, they cared very well for my dog. They made sure she was eating and back to her regular self before sending her home with me. She came home clean, healthy and happy as ever following their care. Plus, the cost for multiple ultrasounds, two days of hospitalization and an x-ray was surprisingly less than what I thought it would be. Overall, I am very satisfied with this place. I could tell they wanted what was best for my pet, which I really appreciate because dogs are family, after all. I will definitely take my dog or cat there for any emergency (though I hope we dont any) that we may face in the future. Thank you, BluePearl!

Mckenna C

I can’t say that losing our dog Lily was a good experience, but the folks at this place made it the best that it could be. They were understanding, kind, and made the best of a bad situation. The doctor was lovely as was the front desk and everyone involved. I wish I could give more than 5 stars.

Suliman Al-Ghazlat, This man from the very start set my gut alarm sounding! (And i play poker for a living). There was just something off about him that bothered me. He was telling me the direct opposite of my vet that i had just left 20 minutes ago. My dog was critical so i took my vet's advice and let him try to help her. They gave my dog a transfusion which costs almost $2000 for the first 24 hrs. and it helped her for a very short time but she quickly slipped back to a worse condition. I'm not a vet but i even knew it was time to stop treatment but he tried to sell me another transfusion for another $2000 knowing the same thing would happen because they didn't know what the underlying cause of her illness was. I said stop all treatment and was going to bring her home. When i got there to pick her up he didn't even have the guts to talk to me during her release. He sent out a nurse to do it. This man, if you can even call him a man, didn't have the courage to face me! He released my dog back to me and she couldn't even stand up! She was so weak when i got her home she collapsed and i had to bring her right back there to be euthanized. She was no longer my dog just a suffering animal. I had to argue with them about during the euthanization that i was going to hold her in my arms as they gave her the needle. Then after her heart stopped he failed to warn me that all her urine and blood was going to release from her back end. It poured out all over my clothes and shoes! There was so much blood! Then he says to me "I suspected a brain bleed" and 30 minutes earlier released her to me without any mention of it. I can say what i think about this poor excuse of a human being right now but i'll let the rest of the world and universe do that. I'm going to mourn the loss of my little girl, my best friend, Bella.

Anne Amsden

I brought my dog in for a checkup and they prescribed her something that wasn’t explained to me but I later found out on my own was an immune suppressant. The room was covered in slobber and fur from another animal I was shown into. Less than a week later my dog suddenly passed come to find out from dog flu. When I called to confront them about it they denied any possible wrong doing but did admit to being the beta site for the state in treating dog flu for Kentucky. No wrong doing my ass. These people set my dog up to die,she was a service dog, she wasn’t around any other animals or dogs but there, she’s was perfectly healthy and had no issues prior to her visit being there and her autopsy showed it. These people murdered my dog.

Malinda Lloyd

Very patronizing experience - hopefully I wont need to use them again. When asked about my experience after filling out a not so perfect survey, I provided a long and detailed response via email as I really didnt care to call in and talk about it....got no response. Cool.

Ryan Colerick

Since getting our 7 mo old lab we have visited Blue Pearl and called them. Once for infected stitches and once for having eaten brownies. Both time they have been incredibly helpful, compassionate, and gained our trust. Especially Bree and Linda. Thank you

Jacinda Wood

The emergency staff, surgical staff, and Dr.Rittenburg were wonderful and compassionate. They cared for my Bella kitty and gave me daily updates while she had to stay there.

Charity Donahue

The front desk staff is awful... I have been so upset and broken hearted. It has taken me quite some time to write this. I have been filled with guilt. I listened to the advice of a receptionist named David and as a result my dog died. Beware this place.

Justen Obrien

It's a decent place for animals.

Terra Hall

My pup and I made a road trip to Blue Pearl for a consult about her seizures and potential testing which would be done at a later date. That would mean another 3 hour road trip each way. Once we arrived, we were in such good hands. The staff was polite and helpful. Dr. Weinstein and his assistant were compassionate. And, honestly, we couldn't have asked for a better specialist experience. Dr. Weinstein was thorough and explained everything in detail helping us navigate but also allowing us to make the decisions. He also got us into testing that day so a future trip wouldn't be necessary. Its hard sometimes to trust other people with the care of your best friend, but I have total confidence in Dr. Weinstein and the staff at Blue Pearl.

Diana Halverson

I have had to use Blue Pearl twice in the last two years and both times the experience has been great. The staff has been kind, considerate and caring. Everyone from the front desk to the doctor. I found Dr. Bragg (most recent visit) to be understanding, empathetic, and took the time to answer every question we had and really listened to us. Is Blue Pearl expensive? Yes. I expect that when I go to an emergency vet clinic. But I feel their level of doctors and facilities justify the cost. They provide options and treatments that sometimes other vets cannot. I won't hesitate to use them again when needed.

Cindi Shibla

They saved my dogs life when he did not look like he was going to make it through coming down with severe pancreatitis, while being very caring. I highly recommend them. Dr. Christian Erikkson was wonderful, and continued to be invested in how my dog was doing after he has able to go home. I wish that this facility was closer to my home so that this could be my go-to for any vet needs.

Ann Harrell

Dr Matt Sherger and the entire staff at Blue Pearl Paramus were outstanding in treating our dog, Miss Francis, for mast cell cancer. Although Miss Francis did not survive the onset of the cancer, she received wonderful, empathetic and caring treatment from everyone at Blue Pearl. I recommend this hospital in every way. Superb!

Sarah Hiestand

We took our dog to Blue Pearl after hours. The vet techs and the doctors were absolutely wonderful to us and our pup. They made sure he received the care he needed, and they were very fast. I was very impressed with our visit.

Lc Bega

Wow I wish I had the opportunity of looking at the reviews of this place prior to my visit there cuz I wouldn’t have stepped foot in this place even if they were to pay me after everything I just read. I was told to go there by a different hospital as I was dealing with a bleeding traumatized dog after viciously getting attacked by a bigger dog. I feel the need to edit my comment and hopefully it could help someone at some point. It’s pathetic how some people have no compassion and would use others when they r dealing with a sick pet! People like these make me love animals even more then I already do and my love for them is as unconditional as theirs for their owners. My experience there wasn’t as bad as some of the reviews I’m reading because thankfully I got to walk away with my dog alive but it was most definitely EXPENSIVE. It’s sad how vets have switched over to be such expensive butchers without any compassion whatsoever to the most innocent!! I wish my dog could talk and tell me what goes on behind the closed doors, because I’m pretty sure they don’t do 70% of the things they claim to be doing on their long list and they couldn’t possible give them any type of care as they only see our pets as $$ signs. I’m heartbroken by all the dead scenarios I just read in these reviews. Money is not everything ppl , butchering a dog so u can buy the new iPhone or a new pair of shoes Its absolutely disgusting. Ppl with actual hearts pay and will pay top dollar when it comes to their babies... the least you could do is do ur JOB RIGHT and have some type of compassion for the animal in front of u. A real dog lover, loves all dogs not just theirs.... I even love and feel bad for the dog that attacked mine even after all the discomfort and pain it brought to our baby and the stress that I’m dealing with. Now I completely understand why I was treated like that on the phone after reading such bad reviews. If you get answered by a girl named Alexa please be aware as she would make up words you never even thought of .... forget about saying them just so they can claim they were threatened by u so they can protect themselves because of the horrific services they offer. Little did she know my phone records all conversations and I’m so disturbed by all of this that I’ve lost sleep and I’m making it my personal mission to get some type of resolution, starting with an apology first. If I could give it zero stars i would

Kelly Stewart

We brought out dog Bailey in tonight. We knew when we left our house that Bailey would not be returning home with us. The staff was so compassionate and caring. Thank you for the care you showed my family as we said a tearful goodbye to our dog. Your gentle words and caring actions made a very difficult time just a little easier to handle.

Bryon VanLerberg

WORST EVER...We brought our Standard Poodle in for a Fever, I suggested it could be an ear infection because of the way he would shake his head. Spent over $700 for blood work and ultra sound, they sent him home said his fever was gone and he was acting normal. Still sick the next morning, we called and asked for a prescription for an antibiotic to treat ear infection and they refused, said he would need to be seen again. fyi -this would not let me post 0 stars...$39 mobile vet on the way

Bait and Switch My male cat was treated for a UTI by our regular vet about a month ago. However a few weeks later, this past Saturday, he was in obvious pain and struggling to use the litter box. Our regular vet was closed and they recommended Blue Pearl. As others have said, I don't like them taking my cat to examine without me present, but okay. The vet, who was very nice, came out to tell me that they felt he may have a blockage which is not that uncommon. She said she would work up an estimate to have him stay overnight and be catheterized and treated. An associate came out (the money person I guess?) and told us his treatment would be between $1,100 and $1,800. WHAT??? Okay - it's a cat - we love him, but there are a lot of cats in shelters that need good homes and I'm not about to spend that kind of money on something that may just continue to occur and have my pet in pain. I told them that they would need to put him to sleep but that I wanted to go get my husband first so he could say goodbye. I returned 15-20 minutes later with my husband and we reiterated that unfortunately, we would have to have the cat put down. She suggested that we try for a Care Credit card. I explained that it had nothing to do with not being able to pay them, it was more complicated than that. Suddenly, they found a $350 option which involved catheterizing and flushing his bladder then sending him home that evening with some medication. They put us through emotional hell. Seriously - we almost put our cat down because he got sick on a weekend and we took him to Blue Pearl rather than being able to take him to our regular vet who is very reasonable. I felt like the entire visit was a sales job so that they could see just how much money they could get out of us. I will be looking for another ER vet if we need one in the future.

Amanda Gunter

Just want to remind people about my AWFUL experience of this vet!! Two years ago, my dog was diagnosed with Mammory Gland Cancer from this vet, they quoted me 12- THOUSAND dollars for treatment!! When I went to my home vet, they quoted the SAME treatment for 12- HUNDRED dollars!!!! I don't know how the people at Blue Pearl SLEEP at night...... it should be a crime, the AMOUNT they over charge!! 2 years later, my 13 yr. old Maltese is thriving!!! Don't be taken advangtage of... do your research!!!

Donna Fowler

Front-end staff were great but the vet not so much. He would not speak in terms we could understand after telling him to.

MERYL LENNON

I took my dog here tonight and had a great experience. I was taken care of right away and the staff was very nice and friendly. I would recommend taking your pet here.

My sweet baby Lucy severed her ACL and MCL. The care we received from the nurses and Dr. Bruce was great. She has recovered, but unfortunately the same thing has happened to the other leg. So we are returning to Blue pearl because of the care we have received for our Lucy. We are sad and a little nervous that Dr Bruce is no longer there, but feel that his replacement will be great as well. While the care is wonderful, the prices are absolutely ridiculous, just for a consult to see Lucy and tell us her leg is messed up will be $189. We may be there 10 minutes, that’s how it went last time. The last surgery ran me about $3500, that’s not including the after visit I don’t believe. With that being said, my dog is healthy and can walk(prior to the new injury) and that is worth it to me. I just thank god I have the means and a credit care card that can work there. It is sad that if you don’t have money or credit then you are out of luck.

Bunni 08

Overall visit was good. Was seen pretty quickly. The doctor and staff were very thorough. I waited about an hour for them to complete tests on my kitty. Wish they would have brought my pet back into the room with me while they were waiting for blood work and such. Pricey, but that is expected of an emergency clinic.

Ally Brown

Took my cat nugget here because he was straining to pee and having accidents around the house. I suspected possibly crystals in his urine because that is what happened to my other male cat at home and I know how serious it can be. While I was gracious they were open when very few places were, the care my cat received was less than adequate. They charged a 97$ fee just to come in, expensive, but since it is a hospital I was more than willing to pay this. I thought it was strange that I couldn't stay with my cat while he was being examined. After a rushed conversation with the vet, they came in with a quote for his care which totaled to $800+! I'm a college student and can't afford that kind of price tag, so my mom called to discuss it with them. Like magic, they told my mom that a lot of the expensive procedures listed weren't necessary and could be taken off the bill. In the end, they performed a urinalysis and found crystals as well as signs of infection for which they prescribed an antibiotic. They also prescribed him a nausea medication, a muscle relaxant, and a painkiller. When I asked the Vet tech about if the medicines were really that necessary, they made me feel like they were absolutely crucial and that I would be hurting my cat if I didn't get them. I pressed the tech and asked her more questions which made her flustered and her face turn bright red. My cat is not and was not in pain, which I tried to explain, but I agreed to the medicine anyways because they made me feel bad about it. But wait, it gets better. When I asked about them writing a prescription for the medications so that I could get them elsewhere (much cheaper) they told me that the vet wasn't certified to write a prescription for a controlled substance? What? Then they had the audacity to tell me that the 20$ difference in prices really wasn't that much and that I should highly consider getting them there. Do they make money off the prescriptions they write and fill? I'm sure they do. This place is a SCAM. They over prescribe and costed nearly 400$ to tell me that I needed to change my kitty's diet. Terrible hospital that only cares about money. TAKE YOUR LOVED ONES SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Becky Bucalo

Wrigley was in bad shape when he arrived. My former vet was at a loss of what to do. Dr. Schmidtchen knew just what to do. She was so caring and really took time to explain what was going on. She saved my babys life!!! I'm so thankful she was there that day!!!

Christina Oates

I would actually give them 4.5 stars. I have used Blue Pearl for emergency visits and non-emergency visits over the past year for my kitty. The staff is very helpful and friendly. From the time spent there, I noticed how they quickly and efficiently they push aside all else to prioritize any situation where the animal's life is in jeopardy. (In some cases, this may mean longer waiting time for you and your pet. However, I do respect their decision to treat those who are in critical, life-or-death conditions first.) Further, if you are fortunate to get him, Dr. Cummings is a terrific vet. He is personable, patient, and informative.) My only hesitation with Blue Pearl was a one-time situation where there was a push to do surgery, that I felt like was a premature recommendation. My kitty is 17 and we had not even received results from lab work-ups that had to be sent out. Thus, my only recommendation is to sit on the idea of surgery, if recommended, so that your emotions (as in my case) don't inform such important decisions. If you know the latter going in, then I think you will love Blue Pearl and be glad you opted to use them.

Liana Grasso

Called them for a simple explanation of standard normal ranges for lab work and they refused to give me any medical information over the phone without coming in for an office visit - so basically wouldn’t give me any information if I didn’t pay for it. To clarify- I was not asking for any diagnoses, just simply for the numbers of normal ranges for specific lab tests. Not results or diagnosis. Was told “google it if you want to know”. Would not reccomend!

Marina Brizendine

Late one night my ManCoon cat of 14 years who was actually 19 years old fell ill. We were very nervous my daughters and I and needed to get him seen immediately. I looked up the closest 24 hour vet and this is what was recommended. As soon as we got there the staff was immediately on top of getting the proper care for our cat Bangor. Unfortunately after a few minutes in the room he became even more incoherent and the nurses there took him to another room to examine him without my daughters being present. While they were in the other room he took his last breath. There was nothing they could do to save him that night it was just his time the blessing was that this facility offered services for him to be cremated as well as brought back to us with Memorial gifts such as his paw print in clay a beautiful cherry box to hold his remains and they provided me with information for Care Credit to cover the cost that came with the services. The staff was very gracious and courteous to her needs they showed so much sympathy for us as they could see how upset we were by the loss of are pet family member. We have had our dog the same length of time and I will not go anywhere else but to this location.

Alice Dennis

I would definitely suggest this veterinary clinic! Dr. Aarstad and the staff were so awesome. We were in Kansas City on business when our little dog, Tiger, jumped off the bed and broke his leg. We thought he was having a seizure but he continued to shake so we took him to the clinic. It was late at night but we were seen very quickly and they evaluated him, gave us some options and took action. We are so grateful for their help and experience. We arrived in an emotional mess and left with much comfort knowing he would be okay. Thank you!!

Shayna Hart

If I could give less than a star I would. This was our second visit to the ER here and still didn't get to my dog for 4 hours! So slow and didn't treat my dog like an emergency.. We wouldn't of come here if our vet didn't tell us that we needed an emergency ultra sound of our dogs heart. Over our 4 hour wait we didn't get one person to come talk to us just sat and watched as people came in and left and all of the staff sitting around talking and laughing. Dont recommend!

Carol Gannaway

The folks at Blue Pearl are so compassionate and caring. I have had to put down 2 of my Persian cats over the years and they treated me and my babies so well. I am fixing to put down another one due to cancer and will be visiting the hospital soon. I am sad....but, feel so comfortable taking her there when the time comes.

Karen Grooms

A few years back my little rat terrier Josie begin having seizures again and our regular veterinarian recommended us to Blue Pearl. It was a godsend. They got her straightened out and got the seizures under control

I originally wrote a very negative, angry statement here. If life has taught me anything though, it's that when you're wrong, you're wrong. It turns out that even though it was expensive, and yes it was rushed and maybe a bit cold emotionally, the doctor at Blue Pearl absolutely called it. They caught what, for two months, we had missed. An obstruction from a shoe, that ultimately, sadly, took my best friends life. Because I didn't like the news, because the diagnosis was so dire, I, like most humans, overlooked the facts and went straight to a bias in my mind that said they were wrong. As for being maybe a little cold about the whole ordeal? Of course they weren't my usual vet. They hadn't been seeing Moose since he was a puppy, we literally walked in that day and that was the first and last time they saw us. With no time to connect, and so many patients, one cannot ask a doctor, any doctor, to form a connection that quickly. They showed exactly as much empathy as they should have, and cannot be faulted for it. Ultimately they reached out to me to see how Moose was doing after reading my review, and sadly that was today, the day he passed away. They were incredibly nice, and very sincerely sorry for his passing. So yes, they are expensive, and yes, their options are expensive, but they caught and properly diagnosed in 20 minutes what we missed for 2 months. It was too late to save him, but I'm grateful for their efforts.

Darryl Batts

I highly recommend this office for any pet owner in need of emergency or specialty services. I tool my dog in with a rare condition, Chylothorax. The staff was very friendly and helpful from the door. My dog need to have extensive surgery. Dr Monaco was the best, he explained the procedure in a way that it was easy to understand. He is truly one of the best Vets I have ever come across. The entire staff was very friendly, n matter what time I called to check on him they were always kind. Their prices were very reasonable as well. I highly recommend this place!

Wow thank you all who helped my loved one! I could have not asked for a better care team then what a saw last night when I brought my injured

My cat ate a gym mat. He's been doing that for a year. It took me 11 months to figure out what he was throwing up. I guess they make some plastic/rubber items with soybeans and he evidently loves soybeans. As soon as I figured it out, the gym mat went in the trash. He had hidden a piece to snack on and after a year of throwing this stuff up, his luck ran out. He got a significant chunk lodged in his intestines. I took him to my vet the day after he was vomiting and stopped eating. They weren't concerned. They gave him a shot and sent us on our way. Two days later, no improvement. I took him back. They did an x-ray that showed a possible obstruction. Did a barium x-ray that confirmed. By this time, he was severely dehydrated. My choices were to let the do the surgery there for about $1000 or take him to Bluepearl for 5-8k. Seems like a no brainer until I asked what the odds of his surviving the surgery. My vet told me honestly, less than 50%. I took him immediately to BP. They were fantastic. They were honest and fair and more importantly, gave him the care he needed to recover. They hydrated him for a day before surgery and checked his labs again to make sure his odds of surviving were good. He did great! He got the best care there and recovered quickly so the bill was on the lower side and they even owed me $500 at the end. They saved his life and I will forever be grateful.

They saved my dog's life.

Monday june 10th I was freaking out because my dog Lola (9 year old chihuahua) was very sick and I was in other Animal Hospital in Fairfield (terrible place) so I call Blue Pearl they hear all my drama and told me JUST COME...is amazing how simple kindness, compassion but most of all Sympathy change my mood..the moment I step in,the receptionists were kind, give me so water to calm, the vet technician took my Lola...Then a kind Dr(can’t remember his name) hear patiently all my drama and Lola story then he told us our options but is amazing to feel that they care about it...My husband and I knew My Lola needs a surgery so Dr. bonczynski took her time to explained us the cons/pros about surgery, what to expect, what could happens she was so kind and we felt that she cares about... So Lola went to surgery after that, they keeping us updating us about her..Saddly my Lola couldn’t make it...When they call to tell me that, I ask them if we can go to say Good Bye and they wait for us..So I said Good Bye to my Lola...from receptionist, technician to Drs all were so sympathetic with our loss...That’s priceless!! definitely I always going to take my pets to this place... We took our sweet Hope in on a Saturday evening, and even though we had been told it was a few hour wait, the staff were incredibly caring and we were able to be seen much faster than they had said. Hope's health had been declining and we knew when we went in to Blue Pearl that the possibility of leaving with her was slim. They made an extremely difficult time a little easier, if that's at all possible when it comes to losing a pet. We were able to spend as much time as we wanted with Hope and being able to leave through a side door and not the front was extremely helpful.

Chad Pendleton

I was very anxious going in to BluePearl - about my dog mainly but also that the clinic would take advantage of me or add stress to my experience. I could not be more satisfied with my visit! Every person did their job at a high level and they took care of my dog better than I could have hoped. If they weren't a specialty clinic/emergency center and if I didn't already have a great vet - there would be no other place I would want to take my dog for care.

Has anyone noticed everytime there's a bad complaint made about this place they always say we cant locate your pets records, well that right there is enough to tell me that this place is shady, I mean are you kidding really if you lose that many records something's definitely wrong

At 9pm on a Saturday, I was looking to find somewhere to take my dog who had been vomiting for 2 hours straight. She also had a horrible rash on her belly that had came out of no where. I was basically desperate and overcome with worry. The staff was nice to us. I have no complaints in regards to that. However, I can’t help but to think that this place takes advantage of people who are in desperate situations with their animals. Honestly, I had to leave without any diagnostics bc of the price. X-rays start at $400!!! Lab work was like $300. If I had the money, I probably would have paid it. I took my dog home who whimpered and cried all night with pain and continued to vomit. The next morning I went to shively animal clinic and they did an X-ray for 50 bucks. I also got a diagnosis of systemic vasculitis. I understand charging more because of the whole 24/7 emergency thing, but I cannot for the life of me understand how I can get a diagnosis, an X-ray, and 7 medications at one faculty for less than 200 dollars but at blue pearl animal hospital get only fluids and nausea meds that cost me almost 300 dollars. Her rash wasn’t even considered there and it was the clue to what her whole issue was. I guess what I’m trying to say is if you can tough it out at home with you pet until the morning when somewhere else is open, do it. If you’re rich, you’ll be fine going to Bluepearl.

Diane Demarest

A friend took her pet there as an after hour visit. Her pet wasn't even seen by a vet, only a Sr. vet technician and charged $700 - REALLY?!

Melissa Gonzalez

Just heard a horrible story. Coworker came here with her dog that was literally on her death bed and the doctor was so cold and just wanted my coworker to “just sign it” so they could get their $6000. The staff were rolling their eyes and laughing as my coworker cried because of how nasty the vet was. The dog ended up dying IN MY COWORKERS ARMS. What kind of place is this? A place that should be shut down. Don’t even reply to me bluepearl.

M Steele

A year ago they killed my rabbit. I decided to give them a other chance after my pregnant cat started bleeding. We got there and they said nothing was wrong and that we could go home. As we were paying the 200 that they charged just to LOOK at her, the doctor said they wanted to do an ultrasound. We let them and sat as patiently as we could, with a two year old child, for 4 hours. they told us they found a bunch of dead kittens and only one live one and that we needed to pay another 2500 for surgery. We were there from 2:30 to 6:40. Seriously, don't waste your time here. Go somewhere else.

I liked nothing about it. I think they scam people out of money. I paid 2800 for an overnight stay. They did nothing to try to fix my dog. I was quoted 2000 low end for back surgery 4000 for high end for back surgery said they needed 2000 up front gave them that. They called said its not a slipped disc so wait 3-6 weeks he should walk again. Well 16 weeks later nothing and the kicker when I picked him up the very next day they charged me another 800 for what I don't know they didn't do anything. His actual vet said it seems to be a slipped disc but the damage is now permanent they should have done it like they said they were and he would be walking. Well we had to put him to sleep 2 days ago. I highly recommend you DO NOT GO HERE

Amy Mcconnell

This place is terrible and over priced. They misdiagnosed my dog and my dog could of died because of it. They have no clue what’s going on and they actually had the nerve to tell me that I need to surrender my dog as the first option. Do not recommend.

I woke up Sunday and expected it to be a good day. I get a call from my daughters father telling me that Frankie has been bit and he was heading for a hospital little did I know it wasn’t where Frankie normally gets his exams and such. My pup had a ruptured spleen since a bigger dog caught him. He called me every 20-30 minutes telling me that the doctors kept increasing the price to save my dogs life. Long story short, these doctors knew Frankie wouldn’t be 100% at the end of this but they kept trying to push and ask for more money which I didn’t care about. Frankie is my life and I would have paid anything to save him but these doctors are so greedy. I was 3 hours away when this happened so I tried calling and some receptionist told me “ you have no say in this because you aren’t the owner and I won’t get in between a family feud. (Hangs up)” . I tried transferring Frankie to his regular vet and they wouldn’t let my daughter and her father take him. I hate this place just because they let my dog die on a table in a room alone. I would feel better if he had died in my arms at least he would know that he wasn’t alone and I was there. I hate this place. Rest In Peace to my sweetheart who didn’t even make it to his first birthday.

Terrible experience.

The staff here was nothing short of phenomenal. I unfortunately had to put my dog down over the weekend, because of liver cancer that they diagnosed. They helped explain things very well, and gave me several options. Surgery was going to be costly so I went ahead with the tough decision to ease my little guys suffering. They were compassionate and respectful throughout the whole process and even though I had just met the staff, it felt like they had known my dog for years before. It sucks to see your best friend go, but he went out with great care at Blue Pearl. Dr. Aarstad was tremendous and so comforting throughout the process. When the time comes for me to get a new best friend, you can bet I will be coming here for any medical attention. Thanks again to Blue Pearl.

For starters I want to address the negative comments on here, yes this facility is OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE. However, that being said, if you are looking for QUALITY services for your pet this is the place to go. I truly believe that other places would have reccomended putting our dog down because of her health issues but not here. They ran all the tests they needed to run and provided treatment and an on going treatment plan. They got us back fast for the examination without any waiting around, everything was very smooth and the staff seems friendly. Overall we would recommend Blue Pearl for anyone looking for QUALITY health services for their pet, if you're looking for a cheap fix this probably isnt your best answer.

Tia Rutter

I wish I could give LESS than a one star, but it won't allow me to. They wouldn't even do any sort of diagnostics before wanting a big fat paycheck. Wanted us to promise to pay more than $2000 up front, without even knowing what was wrong with my sweet puppy. We ended up going to metro animal hospital and they were amazing. Do NOT go to blue pearl. Zero compassion, all they care about is money. They "didn't feel comfortable" treating my baby after my husband (understandably) got very emotional and went outside to allow me to try to talk to them. The "doctor" even accused my husband if child abuse after he got up to take her to the restroom! My baby was quite literally dying, and they kicked us to the curb.

Brian Stephens

This place clearly knows what they are doing when it comes to fleecing their clients. I called in first because I was concerned about the price of a vet emergency hospital and was told, based on the condition I expalined, the cost would be around $120. Based on what had occured, it seemed like a reasonable price to pay. It seemed odd that they didn't let me see my pet until after we were going to pay but I quickly learned why when I was given the bill for $375!!!! So they are holding my pet until I pay since they are charging me triple the price? What kind of outfit is this?? If you are looking for a little extortion to go with your vet visit I guess this is your place.

It’s all about the money here people ... please find somewhere else for your pet ! -Reply to comment- I couldn’t reply to the comment you made below - Paul, so posting here. 1. You weren’t even there to speak with me, and your name never came up... nor do I see your name on any paper work... So you have no idea what the primary focus was... You just read a file. 2. The reply’s from you on all these reviews are clearly scripted and seem to be the same just to keep your reviews under control, if you truly cared you would call me being that you saw my number in the file you read. 3. Unless you plan on returning money that you took from me by taking advantage of my sick dog.. then I don’t really have anything to say.

Bob Parmley

I thought Dr. Acker was very kind, and I am very pleased with the care my kitty received. They took the time to explain everything beforehand, and were good about keeping me updated as well. When I picked my kitty up they again took time to explain all that had been done, and how he had fared through the ordeal. Very professional, and very clean facility. Many thanks!

The worst part about our little buddies is when we have to say goodbye to them. Our Jack Russell, Tori, had been with us for almost 16 years. We had lost her brother two years before and her anxiety and need to cling increased greatly immediately after. Our vet was unavailable, so we were directed to BluePearl... Tori had developed complications with a previously benign tumor over the weekend, and was bleeding freely and in pain, so we could not wait. I cannot say enough good things about the staff here... they were very busy, but three different team members took great care of us, empathized with us, gave us all the time we needed. Each step was handled with the utmost compassion... one of the girls gave Tori as many treats as she wanted (she has always been a black-hole for treats), and even came by one last time to say goodbye. The tech that put in her IV was superb, and the vet that administered the medicine to end her pain was absolutely fabulous. It's the worst thing a pet owner has to do, and BluePearl made the best out of a terrible situation. I recommend them without reservation.

We knew this was the only emergency vet in town and was scared to use it due to past bad reviews. However, they were actually amazing! Everyone was very nice and loving to our dog and the doctor was awesome! Really took the time to explain everything to us and made sure to let us ask as many questions as we wanted. I think most of the bad reviews are from people who really wanted to complain and are not that justified. I would highly recommend this place. It was our saving grace in time of need.

David Horrar

came to this facility after going to Metropolitan and having the worst experience and almost life-threatening event for my dog. It was 9 at night I called BluePearl facility on the way there they took my dog in as soon as I got there extremely nice people had her eyes examined a full body examination even had a special opthamologist contacted and reviewed her condition only pay $200 for probably $500 worth of service they were all extremely nice and caring make sure to give this facility a try before you read all the morons that have left the reviews on this page oh and also never go to Metropolitan Animal Hospital ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever.

We had to take our sick cat in on Christmas and sadly had to have him put down. This was a very much loved family cat and although it was a very hard night for us I can not express how amazing the staff here was. They were beyond what I would have ever expected. They were so caring and kind. They were patient and let us spend as much time as we needed saying goodbye to our furry friend. Then a week or so later we got a card in the mail with our cats paw prints and all of the staff had signed it with their regards. I would give 10 stars if I could.

They saved my pup who we witnessed to try to jump a metal fence and got hanged onto it after a long Derby Day. They were attentive, prompt, and gracious. I’m an ER nurse so I know they got him the treatment and into surgery, fast. ❤️Thank you!!

Blue Pearl is very clearly focused on getting every dollar they can out of you.The one thing you can be sure of when using Blue Pearl is that they will do whatever they can to fill their pocket books at the expense of your concern for your pets wellbeing. Our blind and deaf cat has been having issues with one of his eyes for quite some time. It started as a scratch and turned into glaucoma. We’ve spent several hundred dollars and visited several vets and given him the prescribed medication. The last vet, who prescribed medicine for glaucoma, recommended a visit with Dr. Tolar if his eye did not improve. It seemed to improve at first with the medication, the swelling went down, but in the last few weeks it has gotten significantly worse. We called to schedule an appointment with Dr. Tolar but the soonest she could see us was 2 weeks from when we called. The eye continued to get worse and we decided to bring him to the ER at Blue Pearl. What a mistake. The vet on staff at the time basically didn’t help at all. We spoke with him for maybe 5 minutes, the rest of the time (3.5 hours total) we either sat in the room alone (30-40 minutes at times) or worked with a vet tech. The vet simply reached out to Dr. Tolar, who said to keep him overnight so she could see him in the morning. So, we paid for an emergency vet visit that amounted to “I can’t help and we have to keep him overnight to do anything useful”. This is where it gets worse. Concerned about the bill we would incur to keep him overnight to see Dr. Tolar, I asked for an estimate. The one that was produced included the cost of the emergency vet visit, a fee for optometry tests, boarding fees to stay overnight, and a wide range of costs for possible medication. In order to have him stay and actually get some help, we had to sign the estimate. The estimate basically said: “If we will exceed the costs on this estimate by 20%, we will try and contact you. If we can’t or don’t, sorry about your luck you’re still on the hook for whatever we decided to do without your consent”. We HAD to sign this in order to have him stay, which basically means “if you want us to help your pet, we’re going to charge you whatever we want and you can’t do anything about it”. Of course, our bill far exceeded 120% of the high end of the estimate that we were give ($500 when the high estimate was $324). We were not attempted to be contacted at any point. The final bill included a large fee for nursing services. If you knew that in order to keep my pet overnight and give him medication (which was quoted), he would need nurse attention and that would incur an additional cost, why was that not on the estimate? There was also a charge on the bill for the consult with Dr Tolar. Why was this not on the estimate when the entire purpose of keeping my pet overnight was to so that she could see him? I’ll tell you why these things weren’t on the estimate: because they tried to keep the estimate as low as possible so that we would agree to have our pet kept overnight, which meant we had to sign a form that said they could charge us whatever they want. I only signed because I was concerned for my cat’s wellbeing, they gave no other options for treatment, and I wrongly assumed that they would act in good faith and stick to the estimate. On top of all of that, the medication estimate ranged from $20 to $100. As you can guess, the final total cost of the medication was $120, again over the quoted amount. I even offered to bring him back, at any time they needed, so that he didn't have to go through the stress of staying there overnight. But of course that wasn't an option because it wasn't putting money in their pocket. At the end of this terrible experience, all we walked away with was a lighter wallet, some antibiotic drops, pain medication he doesn’t need, and a quote for $1600-1900 to have his eye removed (I’m sure, based on this experience, our bill would end up being closer to $3000). I hope me sharing my experience helps someone avoid having to go through the same things.

Pricey but they perform miracles 24/7. Great staff, caring, clean & compassion & more in an all service hospital. One stop for all types of emergencies...So glad they are there.

Laura Strong

Dr.Rizzo and team have been amazing. I have been in practice as a veterinarian for 28 years. The care, dedication, and compassion I have received with my best bud Miles has been outstanding. I will be forever grateful. Dr. Strong.

I wholeheartedly believe that Dr. Peace is partially responsible to my dog needing to be put to sleep before his time. He had a bad inner ear infection, and we eventually were referred to BluePearl. She gave him a steroid, when it should have been an antibiotic, and he had seizures for 12 hours straight. And, when we called in a panic, she asked us why we were calling her when we should be spending our last hours with our little Max saying goodbye. Absolutely awful. Max was able to pull through, but had severe nerve damage from the hours of seizures. He lost ability to jump and he wasn't able to walk straight--he walked sideways for a long time. He was never able to fully regain full face function, and could only eat out of one side of his mouth. All due to the steroid's effects. We had him for roughly two years after that, he was never the same, but always our loving Max and he managed. But, Dr. Peace was absolutely awful to us, and had no regard for what she did. However, the girls that answer the phone are always very sweet and empathetic, and I'm sure other doctors there are great and helpful, as they should be. Peace was none of those good qualities.

We took our cat Odin in because our normal vet was closed. He was so congested he could barley breathe and his eyes were nasty and runny, runnung a fever ,sneezing and coughing badley. We told them we took in some rescue kittens who come to find out had upper respiratory infections and most likely passed it to Odin. We were told it wasn't that. That it was just herpes and all cats have it. Then they prescribed him a antiviral that cost $150 dollars!!! On top of a $110 vet bill. He took the medicine as directed which was also huge horse pills btw. And after wasn't any better. So we took him to our normal vet and was told AN UPPER RESPIRATORY INFECTION and that he should have been prescribed antibotics and he tested neg for herpes. Very disappointed in Blue Pearl.

Josh Roudybush

Fortunately Blue Pearl has been there for me and my pets when the unfortunate has occurred. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful to me when I had questions and were understanding towards me while I was anxious and worried about my animals. The veterinarians were professional, explained everything thoroughly, and addressed any concerns that I had. I've been twice - once each for my cat and dog and the care they received was top notch.

Kathy Swinnigan

Doctors and tech's are wonderful. They have saved our dog when others would have given up. They kept us well informed and they really care about what happens to your dog. They understand your dog is truly a family member. We could not have asked for better care!!

Sheryl Bjorgo

This facility is fantastic, we had to say goodbye to our 5 yr old cat yesterday, they helped us every bit of the way and made it more bearable. I’m so Thankful we took him there, I love my Vet, but we would not have had the outpouring of support there like we did at Blue Pearl! Sure they are more expensive, but they are an emergency center. Thank You

Excellent care for Chief. He needed ACL surgery and other medical procedures.Very professional and explained everything during consultation.Picked him up this morning and once again very professional and explained his care for the next 2 months.Final Bill was actually less than estimate.I will spend the savings on rehab.Thank You for the awesome treatment.Chief came home better than he was.Seemed stress free considering the trauma he went through.

After visiting our primary vet on Saturday we were informed our puppy had a bowel obstruction and needed surgery, because it was Saturday our vet was unable to perform the surgery. We knew that because we were visiting an emergency facility we would pay significantly more for care, and decided it would be worth it. Admittedly when we called the woman on the phone did not seem friendly, but the experience we had once arriving made every penny worth it. Dr. Rich was compassionate and explained all of our options in detail. He monitored our puppy for four hours before surgery to see if the obstruction would move on its own, and ultimately proceeded with surgery. He kept us updated throughout the entire process. For being such an unfortunate situation, I couldn't ask for a better experience. Thanks Dr. Rich!!

I'm compelled to leave feedback after reading some other experiences -- ours was nothing but positive throughout the process of having our dog's spleen removed (we were referred here). Dr. Peace was always so nice, informative and helpful. Scheduled call-backs always occurred when promised. Dr. Mallard, the surgeon, was equally communicative and informative. We never felt unsure about what to expect, or what was going on. To address some criticism of others... It's true, when they present your options and cost estimates after initial evaluation, they don't bring your pet back in. Can you imagine how distracting it would be to have a hyper/ill/wild pet reunited with its owner when they're trying to cover treatment options with you? We have no doubt that, had we asked, our dog could've been brought in to us. But their default protocol just makes sense. Yes, they take a hefty down payment, and require the balance upon completion... It's a business, not a charity or savings and loan. And yes, it's expensive. I guess you could do the work yourself if you think it's easy, but specialty/emergency veterinary medicine commands a hefty price. So does specialty medicine for people. Finally, it's called a medical "practice" for a reason -- they're probably not going to get it right every time. When a pet dies, yes that's tragic. But such are the risks of the medical world, canine, feline or human.

Greg Clayton

The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. They inform you of all your options and explain every step of the process. They were open all day Christmas eve and day. If that were not the case I'm not aware of any other place nearby that would have been able to help our sick little guy.

Charles Dobbs

We were very pleased with the attention and professional service we received when our dog needed emergency surgery. The surgeon was one of only 3 in the state that could perform this type of operation and we drove several hundred miles to have it done. It was expensive but I'm grateful to have had the option. It saved our dog's life.

Cristy Stack

Our experience with BluePearl has been fantastic. The whole staff is knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, caring, and efficient. Our dog had to have a plate put in her leg and the care we have received has been truly top notch! I’ve seen some posts on being super expensive, I don’t feel like we were takin to the cleaners. I felt like it was reasonable, after all you are at a 24 hour and specialty hospital seeing a specialist. We had no surprises with costs, in fact they saved me some money and waited on doing more X-rays and said the initial one I had gotten at my vet would be good enough till the ortho doc looked at her the next day. I would definitely recommend BluePearl and I would for sure come back again.

Our 15-year-old black lab had multiple seizures on a Sunday. He was not able to walk, vomiting, and in considerable pain. His health been declining quickly the past year and we knew that it was time. Unfortunately, our vet is not open on Sunday and they don’t have an emergency line. I called a company that does euthanasia in the home, but the vet was out of town. He recommended Blue Pearl. I am so glad he did. The staff was caring and compassionate. They made this very difficult time as easy as possible for myself and my children. I am beyond grateful for their patience, understanding, and compassion. Thank you for being there on a Sunday.

Robert Blauvelt

Had to take our dog in today. I am blown away by how great this place was. From the minute we walked in the staff was right there catering to our Meiko. Dr. McGuire is awesome. Excellent emergency care. They truly care about the pets. Cost is a bit high but I haven't found any vet care to be cheap. Don't mind paying when they are truly caring for the pets. Highly recommend.

Gail Pruette

Arrived at Blue Pearl as an out of town visitor on Christmas night. My older dog was having a stroke. The staff was extremely patient and caring. They explained everything to us in detail and they gave us all the time we wanted to process the information. In the end our little dog could not be saved and they were gentle and empathetic through this process. They have a special room for those whose pets need the last solution. This room has a private exit so we were able to take our grief out by ourselves and so we did not have to exit the building in front of a group of other pet owners who were dealing with their own pets' health. We did have our little dog cremated through them. The charge was reasonable and the ashes were returned to us with 4 days. We received a sympathy card from the doctor who treated our little guy and she had made a last footprint for us as a keepsake. Very touching, and indicative of the caring staff we met at Blue Pearl.

Horrible! If there was a no star option I'd choose that one. This emergency vet clinic told me they couldn't see my baby until they verified that my own vet couldn't get her in today. Are you kidding me?! Obliviously I'm here because of an EMERGENCY and can't wait for my own vet!!!! The lady told me they were a referral hospital and still needed to verify with my vet, my vet didn't refer this Emergency hospital, a friend did and after telling her my experience she won't be returning either. How do you call yourself an Emergency Veterinary Hospital if you ask stupid questions like that?! I could understand if you need previous records, but to verify they couldn't see her....It's none of your business if my own vet can't take my baby in same day because I'm coming to see you and give you my money!!!! Waste of time to go here, I wouldn't recommend it!!!

Alijah Myrick

I wish I could give this place 0 stars!!!! Horrible service ...waited 5 hours to see my dog with a broken leg and was eventually told that the fracture had been sitting too long and that my dog would have to be operated on!!! The vet said that she was frustrated and tired and that there was nothing else she could do considering her day started at 6am ...I am disgusted .... Of course I was frustrated and when I expressed my frustration Nari the charge vet tech was extremely rude and disrespectful and felt it appropriate to talk about me behind my back to David the receptionist! ....Stay AWAY!!! This place is beyond unprofessional!

My husband and I took our 8 year old Border Terrier to Blue Pearl in Louisville, KY with paralysis in her back legs. After a CT scan it was determined that Bailey had a herniated disk in her back and Dr. Hodshon performed emergency surgery . The entire staff at Blue Pearl was wonderful. I was able to come visit and spend time with Bailey the day after the surgery. Everyone was very accommodating and allowed me to spend as much time with her as I wanted. She spent 2 nights in the hospital. On the day we got to take her home, the vet technician, Ben, was great at going through all the details of her discharge paperwork and he answered all the questions we had. We also got to meet with Dr. Hodshon again to go over Bailey's recovery. Everyone there was absolutely wonderful and they treated Bailey like their own dog. I am so thankful for the entire staff and especially Dr. Hodshon for taking such great care of her.

Donna Falco

I traveled from Sussex county to come here and it was sure worth the trip! Thank you so much Dr. Eriksson for spending so much time with us explaining every detail and steps to take to get our dog Niko better!

4 word review - "Use Mission Med Vet"

James Gilbert

My local vet detected a heart murmur and suggested we go to BluePearl since they have the most sophisticated equipment and a resident cardiologist (Dr. Erickson) , who was amazing. Everyone was helpful, personable and competent. Even the person at the front desk who helped me with the coffee machine. Trust me. You will need help, too! Bright, clean facility! Highly recommended!

Very friendly, compassionate, and caring doctors and staff. We highly recommend BluePearl Vet Partners and thank them for doing all they possibly could to help, we are forever grateful.

James Kuhn

Walked into empty waiting room still waited30 minutes to go back but I expect that. Doctor did not instill alot of confidence, but was fine. Main problem is the 40 minutes waiting to check out and get meds. 4 employees up front doing nothing. I would hate to see how long you would be there if they are busy. Not an ounce of joy in the place . It is like a morgue.

Daniela Sarver

Dr. Schmidtchen is great. She was knowledgeable, friendly and compassionate. Most importantly, she helped our dog. The cost was reasonable too. While some might mention higher costs, it is an emergency facility and it is open 24x7x365. I'm thankful they were available and able to help us so quickly. Thank you.

Tad Porter

Dr. Rizzo and staff were outstanding in providing my pup with the best care! They took care of her every day, ultimately saving her life. They were compassionate and very up front about Filly's prognosis, time in the hospital, and cost. I would highly recommend their services!

I am very ashamed just only for even putting a foot in this place. The love of humanity and the love pet has Become a money factory, How can a veterinarian see a animal sick as my knowing that he needed treatment and had the face to asked me $5,000.00 just to keep my dog. She just turned around and let me walk out with a treatment that she knew was not going to do nothing for him, Where is your heart. Or your hear became a soul Of money $$$$$. I hope you never have to go what I am going now seen my dog sick and have my hands tied with no other place look and see no way out. I hope you enjoy your 189.00 that you charged me. I will post this review in all social media with the picture Receipt you charge me the $189.00. have a great night and God bless you.

I arrived, and was seen immediately with my dog Jax. We thought it was one issue, and it turned out to be something different. Dr. Iosiv and the staff that worked the weekend of 9/17 & Kate on 9/18 were AMAZING! Thank You All! My baby boy is much better and you guys are so understanding and empathetic!! Thank You again!

Tonight while playing in the neighborhood my three kids witnessed the neighbors cat attack a baby bunny. It was in shock but still alive. Shortly after 9pm we arrived at this 24 hour animal emergency center with the bunny. Rushed it in the door where the woman behind the counter told us "we dont do bunnies." I asked where she thought I could take her and she said she didnt know, maybe there was a place in shively (another 25-30 mins away in a thunderstorm) another person came from the back and she turned around, I thought maybe this was the doctor and she would ask her, but they ignored us and talked about another case. I told my confused kids to come on and we left. We came back home and did our best to bandage the bunny. She died ten minutes ago. This hospital could have helped this animal, saved its life or af the very least put it to sleep. But they didn't care enough to even try.

Jason

We were treated like dollar bills and that's all. The only compassionate person, ironically, was the lady who settled up our payment at the end of our visit. I am writing this nearly three years after our dog died. The raw emotion is gone, and I would still never recommend this place unless you had no other option.

Dr. Heather Millard was able to save our cat’s life after another surgeon recommended a surgery that was likely to kill him. Our cat had perineal urethrostomy surgery – also called P/U surgery or PU surgery – at Mission Animal Referral and Emergency Center (Mission MedVet), following multiple urinary blockages and catheterizations in one week. Afterward, the MMV surgeon said our cat’s urethra had been “shredded” by the catheterizations. He was concerned our cat was likely to stricture, (where scar tissue forms its own blockage within the newly-widened urethra). He strictured three weeks later. Stricture is a known risk with this surgery, and the remedy is revision surgery. Beforehand I’d asked the MMV surgeon how many revision surgeries he’d done, and he said one. What I should have asked is how many cats have strictured after he performed this surgery on them. The MMV surgeon had a full schedule the day our cat strictured, so another vet talked to me on his behalf about three options: 1) Inserting something and expanding it to try to stretch out the scar tissue. Low sedation, comparatively low cost, low chance of doing anything worthwhile, (other than pretending like we were trying). 2) Death. 3) Revision surgery where they relocate his pee hole to his abdomen. He said the MMV surgeon didn’t think primary revision – where the pee hole could remain below the anus – was an option. – Has the MMV surgeon performed this type of abdominal revision before? – Yes. – So it’s the one revision surgery he’s ever done? What was the outcome? – The owners later euthanized the cat for poor quality of life: chronic UTI’s, urine scald, etc. I went with option 4) Call Blue Pearl. Go through their ER doc to get to Dr. Heather Millard, a former veterinary school surgical instructor who’s done several PU revision surgeries, and is very good at it. There are no guarantees. Dr. Millard also had two cases where the cat’s pee hole was relocated to their abdomen. They were also later euthanized for poor quality of life. But for our cat, she was able to do a primary revision to save his life. I wish we’d used her for the first surgery. She was very thorough and conscientious; her competence was obvious every time I spoke with her. What I’ve learned: 1) Consider whether you’ve made your best guess about who’s the best surgeon for your pet’s specific surgery. It will especially matter if things go sideways. 2) It seems more of the negative reviews for Blue Pearl are about cost, and more of the negative reviews for MMV are about care. 3) I was able to negotiate price for catheterizations (on a different cat) at MMV, but you have to accept risk for cutting corners. I don’t know if Blue Pearl does the same. That cat was catheterized and released within the hour for @$850 at MMV, instead of their recommended @$1,500 treatment plan that includes hospitalization. I gambled in order to conserve resources, so that I could pay for another catheterization later if he needed it. I paid @$2,100 for the recommended protocol at Blue Pearl the first time I had a cat catheterized. 4) If you're dealing with urinary obstructions and your primary vet hasn't told you to stop feeding dry food, consider whether they should be your vet anymore. Prescription wet food really turned it around for my first cat. 5) Two urinalyses months apart came back negative for crystals and bacteria on my first cat, so his primary vet diagnosed him with idiopathic cystitis (stress-related)… But crystals and small bladder stones were later confirmed via ultrasound and x-ray. 6) Don’t let your primary vet do a catheterization unless they do them regularly. Experience counts, especially if it turns out to be a difficult catheterization. And overnight “hospitalization” at your regular vet is usually your cat sitting in a cage completely unmonitored. Mine sabotaged his catheter, so fluids were going in, but urine couldn't go out... 7) Be calm, be steady. Take responsibility and make the best decisions you can. And I wish everyone a high credit limit, because holy….

Great animal hospital to use if you need to use an animal hospital. Had to have an emergency tooth pulled on our dog and it was handled perfectly.

This is Lisa Neuhaus. I have been to Blue Pearl several times with my cat who has chronic renal failure and have spent hundreds of dollars. Today, I took him in for a recheck, as directed a month ago when he was put on steroids. He had recently been vomiting and had diarrhea. My wait for a 15-minute blood test was about 45 minutes during which I heard Dr. Rizzo's name paged twice to take calls. Andrea came out, who I had never seen before, and started spouting off the few sentences typed on a piece of paper. I had questions. Does he have ulcers in his mouth as is typical of a cat with this disease? Andrea's response, "I'll check." Is the $135 bottle of potassium gluconate supplements the same as a $5.00 bottle at Walgreens? "I'll check." While she walked back to get answers, I spoke with someone at the counter and said I don't understand what she's reading to me. I'm not happy. I've been waiting. I'm spending over $300 and would like to understand what's going on with my sick cat. The nice girl said Dr. Rizzo can speak with you. She took me to a room and Dr. Rizzo walked in, seemingly rushed, and started to tell me the same thing the vet tech Andrea had just said. A lack of compassion, a poor bedside manner, the appearance of being reluctant to let me talk, and a healthy dose of ego, was simply too much. I walked out. It was extremely disturbing. I didn't want a reiteration of what was typed on the paper. Rather, I had questions and didn't feel my concerns mattered. The logical conclusion is that this organization is money-hungry. $135 for a $5 bottle of supplements? Blood work for twice the cost of my regular vet. Price gouging because they operate 24/7. And the real kicker - no one wants to take the time to sit down and interact with the customer, ask if they have questions, ask what concerns do you have? Based on this recent visit, I can't help but question this organization's integrity, business ethics and whether or not they truly care about the animals and owner concerns. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. I'm furious, disturbed, and truly believe they are more concerned with profit than they are their patients.

I had to put my dog down who was I was strongly close to in November. The staff was amazing and it was the one thing that helped me get through such a tough process. My heart was broken but they treated my family and I wonderful and helped with the grieving process.

Excellent service. Only problem. Vet doctor said it would be about 300 or less for a 10 minute procedure of 5 stitches. They charged me almost 400 dollars. 100-120 more than quoted for 15 minutes of time. I paid but seemed to be typical overcharged healthcare price.

I don't know why the negative or mediocre reviews for this place. I took my dog (for the first time) today, (had an appointment) to see Dr. Christian Erikkson, for a consult and ultra sound. My experience was fantastic. The staff and the Dr. Eriksson were so attentive and welcoming. He asked questions about my pet and gave options of what he thought could be wrong with my dog, but assured me that he would find out through the ultra sound. I was told I had to wait 30-45 minutes for the ultra sound because the Dr. had an emergency to take care off. I didn't have to wait that long because after 20 minutes I was escorted to the back where they perform the ultra sound. I asked to be present in the room with my dog and not once did the Dr. give me a difficult time. As he performed the ultra sound he was showing me the images and explaining everything he saw. Bottom line my dog is in good health and not once did the Dr. or vet techs pressured me into unnecessary blood work, procedures, or spending more money that what I had to pay for my pet. I highly recommend Blue Pearl to all pet owners. I will definitely use them again. So glad I bought my dog here.

I had an amazing experience with Betty and the Dr. I’m sorry I can’t recall her name. It was time to put our dog to sleep and they were beyond helpful and supportive. Told us to take as much time as we needed. I wasn’t even pressured to do the cremation through them. She told me she could hold my dog and I could research other facilities. Betty also made us a paw print to remember our Luke since I couldn’t afford his ashes. Highly recommended. At such a traumatic time they were nothing but helpful.

Although our trip here was devastating, I have nothing but high praise for Blue Pearl. Our 8 month old pup had an infection and it had entered his bloodstream, so the prognosis was very bleak, even with surgery. The staff was incredibly kind and so sweet to our baby. They gave us as many options as they could and a surgeon actually ended up adopting him from us. The surgeon took over responsibility for operating, all costs, and future care and thankfully saved his life. We have no doubt that he will live a wonderful life as a wonderful surgeon’s dog. Saying goodbye to our pup was heartbreaking, but it was incredible to know that a surgeon was willing to do so much for him; it says a lot about the people that work here. Although I hope the situation never arises for your babies, I highly recommend taking your animals here if it does.

Was having my dog dogsitted and had an emergency was referred to them and they helped me and communicated while I was away, took care of my dog kilo and educated me on his issue thank you!

I've heard horrible things about this place and then something else happens. This place ONLY cares about the money- not the animals. If you want love, kindness and caring- GO TO GAILOR. They care about the animals first!!!!

Elizabeth Geraldes

This place is only out for the money. I went there with my dog, due to him being lethargic. Apparently he had an inflammation of the liver and either he stayed a week or he needed to be put down because he was "depressed " and not eating (after two days being in the hospital). Well when I visited my dog I bought him his favorite food, he then began to eat and walk around. They were exaggerating on the severity of his diagnosis. I told them I couldn't afford their prices and I was going to take him to his vet. After spending around 5k, I took him to his vet. She spoke to the doctor there and basically repeated the same thing. I then took him home. After a day being at home he was walking, playing around, eating and being his usual self. I took him to see his old vet and she gave us medication for his liver. It's been two weeks now, and he's doing a lot better. I'm glad I didn't listen to them. I could of been in a financial hole or with a dead dog. I am never going back to this hospital. This is a place were you are going to spend a lot and on top of it loose your pet. I found it interesting that they would give him pain medication then present him to me this way. Of course he looks "depressed" , he's high as a kite. Never again.

I'v been very happy with the care provided my pets since we started using Blue Pearl. I have several pets with a variety of issues and see various doctors, all of which I've been satisfied with. The initial visit/consultation is not cheap but understandably so. After that the cost is very reasonable.

We were referred to BluePearl by our veterinarian due to a lung tumor. We read some of the negative reviews and found that the doctors that had these negative reviews were not there anymore. We decided to take our fur baby there after a recommendation from Pet Station Country Club in Louisville. We are extremely glad we decided to take her to BluePearl. WE HAD THE BEST EXPERIENCE! They exceeded our expectations. The doctors and staff kept us well informed about EVERYTHING that they were doing and how Daisy was throughout her stay. We would recommend BluePearl to anyone that is in need of specialized care for their pet.

Barbi Wood

Thank goodness for a place to take my injured cat on a Sunday! We were in and out relatively quickly, the facilities were VERY clean and the best part was that Dr Blouin was very patient with all of our questions.

I am absolutely disgusted with this hospital. My daughter brought her 10 month old puppy in who had a blockage in his intestines and was dying!! You told her she had to have thousands of dollars upfront for surgery to remove the blockage. Obviously she didnt have it. But you took her 400 dollars and put him to his death. Why didnt you take that 400 and save his life???? Isnt that what hospitals do? Im taking this as far as it needs to go to see this never happens to another animal. Everyone in that hospital should be absolutely ashamed of yourselfs and whoever put that dog down knowing his life could of been saved should literally never work in this field again!!

Crissie Huntley

My dog was coughing and wasn’t sure if it was dog flu or something else after coming home from the dog park. He had a fever. Dr. Clements was up front about cost and services and what they may or may not cover. Her veterinarian nurse DaRon was great! He was compassionate about our pup and has a genuine love for animals. After we declined to get treatment with it being so late and the price we would save in just 6 hours they offered to give him fluids at no cost so he could make it until morning. I can not thank them enough. It is not all about the money with them. They didn’t have to do that and for them to offer that was a blessing especially with school shopping, birthdays, bills, etc it was extremely helpful. I told the nurse when he finishes school we would be more than happy to come to his practice. We couldn’t be more grateful, thank you blue pearl staff!

Called in for an emergency on Sunday afternoon arrived at the hospital within 45 mins of call and the staff was amazing! They immediately came out and started caring for my dog. Very friendly staff and took time to answer all my questions.

I went to this hospital about two weeks ago because my pitbull fractured his nail, it was literally snapped in half and the nerve was exposed. They took my dog to the back to show the doctor. The doctor came out and told me what they were going to do to take care of the nail. I told her that my dog has fractured his nail before and I explained to her how my regular vet took care of it. She insisted that that is not how they would do it because it's going to keep bleeding and all vets do things differently. So, the first thing I found strange was how they kept asking for my permission to work on my dog.. just weird to bring that up so many times. So they took my dog and told me they will call me when he is okay to be picked up.. When I go to get my dog, the bill was $600. I bring my dog home with his paw wrapped up and some antibiotics, nothing for pain. Within a few hours, I take my dog out to do his business and his bandage just slides right off!! I look at his nail and I was so upset.. all they did was remove the nail part that was just hanging off and left a piece of it with the whole nerve STILL exposed!! I guess the doctors forgot that a dog WALKS on his paws... So at this point, its Saturday night and I was so disappointed at the job they did, I decided to wait till Monday morning to take my dog to his regular vet to do the job right this time.. Needless to say, my dog needed ANOTHER surgery which cost me $300. Now, I'm not sure if any of the people checking these reviews know what a fractured nail looks like, but, it has to be clipped ALL the way back in order for it to heal appropriately. A vet, I feel, should know this. So, as far as this new hospital, I will never go back and I would not recommend them at all. The staff was nice and all, but I was not there to meet nice people, I had an emergency with my dog that was not at all taken care of. My poor dog needed to be put under anesthesia twice in two days and I was out just about $1000 for a broken nail. In case of another emergency, I will stick to Oradel since I've never had a negative experience there.

I drove 4 hours and took a week off work with NO PAY for my dogs surgery. I was quoted 4k for the MRI and surgery and was told I had to have 3k up front. I assumed the rest was going to be payments. When I got there for the consultation they told me I was quoted wrong and it is now $5900 for surgery and I have to have $4200 before surgery and the balance after surgery. I am just furious and will also be filing with the Better Business Bureau as this is fraud. It is like the quote you a low price to get you there and you have no choice once you are there but to get the surgery.

Donna Berggren

Shocked, upset, and completely disappointed by my experience today. I have been a client of Blue Pearl for several years, with several pets, and have always thought the service and care was exceptional until today. The hardest day that you have as a pet owner is the day you have to make the decision that it is time to let them go. Today was one of those days for me. I have had to bring a few pets to Blue Pearl over the years for this. However, tonight while my dog was being prepped and having a catheter put in, one of the desk workers came in and asked me for payment. When she came back with my charge card receipt to be signed, my dog had been brought back to me to hold, and I had to sign while I am holding her on my lap. I didn't comment other than to ask if the cost had increased since it was somewhat more than previous visits. I was appalled by this whole scenario...it wasn't the right time for any of this. It was wrong on so many levels. This should have been a solemn, quiet time for me and my pet. Payment should have, and could have waited until my pet was gone, like the previous visits and my question answered afterwards. Still can't believe this experience, and how awful it felt.

horrible service

My kitty had a seizure and I was pretty sure he was blind. The vet was quick, so compassionate and understanding as she told me what she thought was wrong. I ended up having to put him down. (My friend, Lord Greystoke, will always be remembered and loved.) She didn't try to influence me one way or the other, just told me the truth and then gave me time to decide. She was so kind, and even though it was a horrible reason I had to go, they made it a tiny bit easier for me by not drawing the process out, by letting me make my own choice without influence, and by being so empathetic and understanding, even when I was sobbing so loudly. I would highly recommend this vet for your emergency services. They clearly care, want to do what's best for the animal, and didn't judge me when I decided to put him down because of the stroke/brain tumor. (If he had just been blind, I would have done anything for him, but I didn't want to put him through so many tests, he could have another seizure at anytime, he was scared and I didn't want to be selfish and make him suffer.) Sorry for the long, rambling review, I will never forget how kind everyone was, how respectful they were of him and his ashes. Thank you to all the people there for making this time a little easier, for not making me worry about my wonderful kitty, that he was being taken care of, that he was treated with respect after he passed. Thank you. Edit:: Autocorrect put in the wrong word.

Our puppy was bitten in the face and bleeding badly. Took two hours for someone to see him. The doctor asked us what our 'primary concern' was after he'd been already been checked over. Uh, he has a huge gash on his face.... Didn't clip around the wound or do stitches since he wouldn't sit still...he's a puppy. Gave us antibiotics and a cone and it was $300. What a scam.

Dorrian Auxier

Our cat wasn't eating or drinking and a bite on his head. We brought him in and he was treated very competently and compassionately. The bite was infected and was cleaned and he was given an antibiotic shot by Dr. Punt. I would recommend Blue Pearl very highly. It's really worth it.

Katie Townsend

I had to rush my dog to BluePearl and unfortunately we had to put him down, but Dr. Vance was so understanding of everything and made us feel like he really cared. He made sure Buddy was comfortable and taken care of until the end. They were just so great for not having been our normal vet.

Christian Ramos

Blue Pearl tried to help my dog but he unfortunately passed away. What I'm here to really complain about is the attitude. Not so much an attitude as the fact they placed a bill in our hands before the even said they could treat him. Not to mention we had a good 5 mins to cry and mourn before we go "okay so you owe $1000 before you leave". Like...can you all let people mourn their loss? I had to witness my dog getting hit on to revive his heart the most you can give me is a damn second to grieve before a bill is placed in our hands.

Aaron Ernst

Every veterinary clinic should have a strict code of ethics when it comes to dealing with deceased animals. I don't feel that this places policy could possibly meet any such code. I was both angered and hurt by the way in which my dogs body was received by this clinic. I am thankful that they do hold emergency hours but I truly wish my dog could have received more respectful care.

Rachel Amitrano-kang

Excellent place. We had to put our pet down unexpectedly on the weekend and I can't say enough about the staff. They treated her with respect from beginning to end. The staff was friendly and kind. They had a beautiful private room. The receptionist sat with us and was a great comfort. Beautiful facility.

I sat in the waiting room for an hour, and watched multiple other people get called before me. I finally left to go somewhere else. Not sure how you can call yourselves an emergency room.

I came in a little after 2 am because my dog Gracie was not eating, vomiting water when she drank and seemed to be in pain. After waiting a couple of hours for an answer and possible meds to give her..I was told after the blood work was done and the x-ray was done they could not find any issues. So I just paid $510 for absolutely Nothing! Its 4:16 am and I have to be at work at 6:30 am..I literally feel like I've just been robbed. Actually I just received the final bill and it was $601.77.

This place is ran purely for profit, they could careless about your pet. I was sent here by my dog’s primary Vet because he was in a very bad way, and needed a more advanced hospital. Before they even tested anything or did anything for my dog (who was in a very urgent need of medical attention) they took him to the back, put him in a cage, and sent a “tech” out to ask questions. “What’s going on, how long has this been happening, and, in order for us to help your pet, we will need to run tests to find out more blah blah blah... That can cost between $99-$200, I need you to sign here, saying that you will agree to pay that. -Keep in mind my vet sent over 3 pages of information via fax while I was rushing him to their office, and I confirmed they revived it when I walked in, so they knew everything other than “will I pay them” . Pause - Of course I agree to pay, I’m worried about my little guy in the back... Then he says, we also need you to understand this will be very costly and we will have the doctor come talk to you after looking at him to let you know what we find and how much it will be. -Again setting me up to pay vs helping my dog . 45 mins later a very “matter of fact” Dr. comes out with someone shadowing her (I believe was an intern) and walked me through what she felt was wrong, and what needed to happen. Then, once she bullied me into fear that my 5 year old family dog was potentially going to die (which I found the next day was exaggerated dramatically) she told me it was between $1300-$1600 and I need to leave him over night .... Pause - what I’m I going to do ? “No, just let him die”? - of course that’s not an option ... So I say what anyone that can afford to would say ... Yes, take care of my pup. They make me pay all of it upfront and then (this is where my heart sank because I realized I’ve walked into a trap and they don’t care about my pup) ... She said “ we need you to sign here, this says that if his heart stops you give permission for us to preform CPR in attempt to resuscitate him, it may cost between $300-$450 “ Pause- Let’s recap on that last statement, you are a VET, you see a dying dog, and before you save his life you need to confirm you will be paid $300-$450? Again ... of course I signed it ... That isn’t even the end of it, they tried to strong arm me into agreeing to do another surgery with them which would cost another $3500 ... When I went to my home vet the next day .. It only costs $1200 ... Awful, heartless people in this place !! If you are a fan of them you are blind to it, know someone that works there, or, well, just don’t care to throw money around in hopes that they will take care of your pet, I guess ... People, I’ve never wrote a review this detailed... I’m telling you the truth, this place is like a used car dealership (no offense if you are in the car business).. Just saying, they are out to get money and they use emotions to do it. Absolutely disgusting !

Absolutely a great experience. Our baby Toby swallowed a sewing needle. We get assisted right away when we got there. They have a sense of urgency and gave us a few options on how we would like to deal with the issue and that shows they care for both you and your pet. Needle taken out thru endoscopy and my husband and I were both relieved and thankful. We were able to take Toby home with us right after the procedure. Highly Recommended!

Mindy Seeders

Highly recommend! I just left after bringing my dog in after being attacked by another dog. The staff is so friendly and helps you to feel at ease in an emergency situation. After speaking to them, I knew my dog was in good hands. They did everything they could do to keep cost as low as possible and discussed everything with us before making any decisions. The vet was amazing and explained things very well and was just someone who makes you feel really comfortable. I will be recommending this place any chance I get!

I took my dog to the dermatologists at blue pearl, they wouldn't give me no service without having to PROMISE to pay the $200 upfront cost. I took him to his vet first who told me you need this such and such medication but go here they should give it to you it would work. My dog might have had an allergic reaction to his dog food but yet they wanted me to run the full exams of allergies +$450 "to remove an standing worries". They kept pushing for the testing on my poor dog but I wasn't taking the bait. I just wanted the medication and to leave. I finally got it. To a certain extent they care about your pets is say. But are extremely hesitant on providing care without seeing money come their way. It's all a scam. $200 for an intial exam?? Never in my life. Another $150 for medication. Don't go here.

Will Thompson

Everyone was so friendly and put as at ease. THey provided our puppy with antibiotics and fluids and by the next day he was getting back to normal. We really appreciate the kind service and prompt attention and would recommend Blue Pearl to anyone in need of their services.

Johna Picco

The doctors and associated staff at Blue Pearl are of exceptional status. I couldn't speak more highly of the service and the care provided to our dog. After learning that our dog would need to stay overnight for at least one night (ended up being two), I was relieved to know that we could visit her anytime we wanted--literally. My fiance and I took Blue Pearl up on this offer (twice) and the staff couldn't have been more kind and accommodating; during our evening visits we weren't given a timeline of stay nor were we treated as if our unscheduled visit was a bother. The veterinary care and bedside manner provided by Dr. Becca Hodshon was also top-rate. Her intellect and care are impressive and immediately apparent. Any and all of our questions were answered and we were never rushed during our appointments or telephone calls. This was our second experience with BP (the first was after our dog ate chocolate) and both instances receive 5-star ratings.

You're at your worst when you are in need of emergent care for your bloody family member. The staff did an amazing job from the moment we stepped through the doors to the point of discharge. Thank you Dr. Robbins, Teresa and staff for taking care of my Annie...

I thought they'd already left review. Regardless. This place is amazing. The level of service is beyond belief. I'm so grateful for them they've helped me through a real traumatic event. Expert doctors.

Not competant. My dog needed emergency surgery. I called to confirm they could do it. When I got there my dog was taken to the back for "assessment" without any meeting of a dvm or discussion, while the desk person worked on getting payment arranged. I was told they wanted to run several tests, observe her for a few hrs., then call a surgeon in - guess that was to make the time more convenient and rack up the charges. And they took forever to do every little piece. I took my dog out of there, found another vet that was wonderful (Jefferson 24 hr Animal Hosp.), who took 2 seconds to assess my dog, did emergency surgery, and was significantly less than Blue Pearl in price - they did not want to run un-necessary tests. Luckily I had a good out come. I shudder to think what would have happened if I left my dog in Blue Pearl's hands. Why run an E.R without a surgeon?!

Excellent service right from the start. My girlfriend and I had found a kitten meowing at our apartment door yesterday morning. It was storming and we had figured maybe she was trying to find shelter away from all the rain. We decided to take her in and give her a warm spot. We wanted to keep her. She had done fine earlier that day but close to 10 o'clock that night, she seemed to start going downhill: losing energy, not eating, feeling cold, going limp. We tried giving her a warm bath and wrapping her up in towels only find out there was a massive infestation of fleas on her body. My girlfriend decided to look online for a 24 hour animal hospital to take the kitten to. We came across Blue Pearl and decided to give them a try. We had to drive one hour to get there. As soon as we arrived, Triage had taken our kitten (whom became unresponsive) before we could even blink. The girl from the front desk brought us into a room for our doctor a few minutes later. Doctor Cullman came in and notified us that the kitten was suffering from anemia due to all the fleas that infested the kitten's body and would either need a blood transfusion which would cost us almost $1,500 or euthanized which costs $70 plus $35 for cremation. We already struggle with money alone and with the extreme critical state the kitten was at this point, we decided to go with the euthanasia. A nice man who was also getting his cat put down came in and told us he would pay for the euthanasia for us, which made our hearts swell with joy. Doctor Coleman also told us to not worry about paying the $94 fee that we would have to pay for being seen. We did not have to pay a single penny last night. The staff was also very kind, sympathetic, and patient with us as well as quick and thorough making the euthanizing process easier to cope with and to understand from the moment we set foot inside this facility to the very end. Never have we had such incredible service for our fur babies like we did with Blue Pearl. They made it even easier for my girlfriend as she was the most emotional with everything going on since she's such a huge animal lover, especially for cats and kittens alone. It broke my heart to see her feel so helpless and distraught from everything but with such caring staff, she was able to leave with peace of mind.

Small dog hurt her leg last week. Took her in, they did x-rays and then things went poorly. The vet was very young and extremely unsure of herself. Her explanation was filled with "could be, might, possibly, if you look at it this way...." and so on. She said an ortho had looked at the films and was not sure either! Told us to come back on Monday and see another ortho, only this time a surgeon. There was a possibility she tore something--might have, could have, not really sure, can't tell from the films, etc. Took dog to regular vet on Monday and was told there was a slight break and just keep splint on for another week or so. No big deal. NO surgery. Add in they kept me waiting for a couple of hours with only one time that anyone came in and that was the vet who admitted she didn't really know what was going on. After waiting another hour I went to desk to ask for update. They had been waiting to check me out! I was 15 feet away and they just left me sitting. I was extremely surprised by all of this because last summer we had to take our other pup in to be put to sleep. The care, consideration and kindness was fantastic. No clue what happened in the past 8 months, but we'll not be back. UPDATE TO REVIEW: Jenny reached out to me and asked that I call her. We had a very good conversation during which she was very professional and actually listened to the input. She was not defensive, but instead thanked me for the input. Her approach and response was great. It is nice to interact with someone who wants to improve and relies on input from the clients. Class act. It ups my review by one star.

Dr. Peace and the staff was fantastic and was able to help our German Shorthaired Pointer. Being able to save our dog was amazing. The staff was helpful and kind to our (normally scared) dog and took great care of him.

Dog was hit by a car. Took him her on a Sunday afternoon. Jasper was very lucky and only had minor injuries. Vet let me know the cost of x rays up front before they did them. This is 24 hour emergency care. Just like a human ER, it will be expressive. Why does this surprise people? Staff was courteous and helpful. Pleasant experience considering the emotions of my family at the time.

Zackary Ensminger

Super happy with my experience at BluePearl. They took amazing care of my Kitten and probably saved her life. She had to stay over night tonight so they could be sure she was okay. Im super impressed with the care they gave, and not to mention the price. 24 hour care for my kitten the price was exactly what i had in mind. Highly recommend these folks. They do amazing work. They saved my mom's dogs life once also. You might pay little more here, but trust me care this good wont come cheap. Thank you guys so much for everything.

Some of the staff are nice, the doctor said "she needs to learn manners and not jump" I went off on the doctor, my dog is a rescue, we are teaching her. Not everyone likes or loves pit bulls, learn some damn manners.

Believe the reviews that all they care about is money. We took our 12 year old cat in at midnight with heart and kidney failure. The first thing that offended us was taking our suffering cat away from us for examination. We were not allowed to stay with our cat! Finally, after they examined him, the money play started. There was no sympathy or empathy. There was only one treatment option offered which included overpriced laboratory tests and x-rays (~$250 each). We were told it would cost us $1000 for the next 12 hours to keep the cat alive. We were not allowed to see the cat until after the money pitch. For us it was not about the money (I could easily have spent $1000 to keep the cat alive), it was about the impersonal treatment and obvious attempt to leverage our love for our cat to bring in revenue for the business.

I brought my dog in for heavy breathing and vomiting. They took an xray and said they saw nothing abnormal but wanted to keep her overnight for observation. The next morning when I picked her up they said she just had a belly ache and charged me just under one thousand dollars!!!! I could not believe it. I will never go back there.

They were absolutely wonderful, we had to get out dog put down, it was heartbreaking news but they made it the best experience that they could. The nurses were so sweet as well as the front desk staff. The doctor was great, he was very upfront with the issue and was very comforting when he gave us the bad news. I could not recommend this place enough. They were great.

My pet had biopsies completed 2 weeks ago. I have called and left messages, but no one has returned my calls to tell me the results that were to be in last week. As others stated, I spent thousands of dollars to find out what is wrong with my pet. He is still having issues, but no treatment because now that the tests are done and the money spent, he is not that important. My vet referred me here with hopes for answers and treatment for my pet. It would be nice to get my money's worth to help him.

Carrie Nicol

Great, knowledgeable doctors and staff. They are 5 star. Here's the kicker.. predatory fees. I would rate a negative 5 for how they gouge you. Don't mind so much paying $150 for a weekend daytime office visit, but when they charged $150 for a perscription that was $15 at my vet.. seriously. So their profit margins to run a 24/7 emergency clinic do hit you in your wallet. If money is no object.. you will probably like them.

Faith Nation

They are horrible sent my dog there she was throwing up blood they kept her for two days cost me 1800 still never told me what was wrong then 1 day after mg dog was home she had worms.

Our little dog was attacked and sustained bite marks and open wound on her neck. Since it was 9PM our regular Vet was closed. Blue Pearl folks were kind, supportive, and efficient in getting our little dog sutured up and back on the mend. Cost seemed reasonable for an emergency visit. Will recommend and return if needed (hope not!).

Darcy Demetre Hill

This is a true veterinary hospital. Our dog was in cardiac arrest when we arrived. The staff rushed to provide her emergency care. Although she didn't make it, it wasn't for lack of trying on their part. The fees were reasonable. We expected emergency care to be expensive, and were actually surprised that the final bill was lower than we expected. I wouldn't hesitate to bring a pet back here.

Doreen Radtke

We had to rush our Husky over on Sunday morning. Thank God for Blue Pearl. The staff was terrific. They treated us so well and treated Shiloh as if she was their own. I highly recommend this facility to anyone who cares to get the best for their pet. The only thing I would suggest is there are people who sometimes can't pay thousands of dollars in full. Maybe consider a payment plan of some kind so more people can experience the top notch treatment for their pets also.

Kelly D. Linne

Blue Pearl isn’t the closet Animal hospital but it is the best in my book! Our dog had a mast cell tumor on his nose 4 years ago. They did his surgery and had to keep him for 3 days. They gave us updates before we called in every morning. Follow up after bring him home was just the same. All of our pets have been there at least once. They are always friendly, caring, and up front.

Maylynn Harper

We had to come here when our baby Suka injured her leg on a Sunday night. She had lacerated her leg and severed a tendon in her back leg. We were quickly greeted and given patient paperwork to fill out. We didn't have to wait very long at all before we were back in an exam room. The vet tech was VERY sweet and gentle with our baby. Some people are standoffish due to her breed (she's the most tolerant dog ever). The vet was able to examine her leg without sedation, which I was thankful for. The vet was very kind, and I was totally embarrassed because I was THAT owner, the one crying worried about my dog. She was very nice about it, I still feel bad about being such a mess. She walked us through our options and made sure we understood them, and we elected to have her do the surgery that night. She began the surgery within a short time and within a few hours we had our baby back at home. *YES they are more expensive, they are an EMERGENCY vet. You are paying for the privilege of being able to walk in and be seen by specialty veterinarians. Honestly for the services rendered I expected to pay much more than what we were charged. IT IS WORTH IT

jaz barnett

we took our 8 week old kitten to eastside animal hospital because she was really lethargic and was shaking bad, they ended up sending us to blue pearl where they took our kitten straight back once we got there. one of the veterinarians took us to a room to talk to us and pretty much told us if we didn’t have $1500 up front we should euthanize our kitten and even if we would’ve paid that she probably still wouldn't make it. i also asked her if there was any hope for our kitten and she said no she’s gonna die. i felt like she was rude and had no compassion towards me or the rest of my family , i understand that you have to have thick skin to work in that field but you don’t have to be heartless. so we pretty much paid $400 for them to tell us to kill our kitten. im glad i didn’t take the professionals advice because our kittens up and running around and better then ever!

I was nervous to come here when reading the reviews, but frankly, we went to other ER's that had phenomenal reviews before coming to this one and had horrible experiences. So take everything you read with a grain of salt. BluePearl was the ONLY place we could find over labor day weekend that actually had the ability to call in a full staff for an emergency. How is that? It was insane to me that so many other ER's had such limited staffing due to a holiday. Thankfully BP exists because our cat may very well not be with us if they didn't. We were treated with immense compassion and understanding after how stressful the days leading up to our visit at BP were. Specifically I want to appreciate doctor Lee. She took the time to explain all possibilities to us without being too alarmist. She answered every question, didn't just skate around it. And probably most notably, she got down on the floor to sit with us with our cat because he was so angry and scared. We felt like Dr. Lee truly cared about the stress the three of us were under and gave us time to contend with what was happening and make our decisions. Our cat wound up needing an ultrasound and subsequently emergency surgery. Everything was done from the comfort of the exam room, until it was time for any procedures. We were allowed back to kiss him goodbye before surgery. We never felt in the dark about what was happening like we did at other places. They had the internist and surgeon on call and at the facility within thirty minutes. Our cat had surgery at midnight and we got updates exactly as expected. We knew going into it that this was going to be an expensive weekend, but thankfully the clinical judgment of Dr. Schwartz saved us a lot of money. Our cat was able to come home with us without staying several days at the hospital. Dr. Schwartz respected that the ER was stressing our cat out and that he wasn't going to make any more progress there than he could at home. BP could have easily insisted our cat needed to stay and made a couple grand more off our case. But they didn't, and I respect that. Our cat came home woozy and tired but he has been recovering beautifully and feels so much safer here. I got a follow up call to make sure everything was going as expected, which is always nice.

If I could grade them in the negative it would be negative one million stars. They have all people by the short and curlies when your dog or cat is sick. We brought our dogs in thinking they ate some advil, but we did not know for sure. Instead of taking blood work to see if they could determine if they did they proceed to keep the dogs, two small under 15lb dogs, for 2 days. Then they ran blood work with no concerns found at all. Oh yeah, the little sandy blonde haired doc came in when we brought them in, mind you this is 30 minutes after we got there, and said this does not look good, the outcome is not promising and basically playing up every song and dance routine possible. There are ladies at the front desk that are great, but as a whole the place is a total rip off. Though who am I kidding, so is the medical profession for humans but this place is a joke. In total our dogs spent 3 nights in this place with no issues and in fact it was our 80lb dog who had eaten the pills. But Blue Pearl got there almost $8k from us. Now yes if our dogs had eaten these pills, would I want someone their 24/7 checking on them, the answer is yes, but what I do not appreciate is being jerked around when everything told to us by poison control that with the weight of our dogs if they had eaten the pills they would have been gone within six hours. Again, they have you because your local vet is not equipped to do this type of service and guess what else they are the only office out there. #monopoly #greedy #scum #karma

We were introduced to BluePearl Paramus in early Nov 2017 when our dog broke her leg. Her regular vet sent us to BluePearl. They were professional yet so compassionate from the first visit. Everyone was kind and helpful. Brandy needed surgery and had to stay for 2 days, they encouraged me to call whenever I wanted to check on her and were so caring with her. When the biopsy that was done (due to age and circumstance of the break) came back they were comforting and informative without being "clinical". They care about you and your pet. They understand these animals are family. Brandy was never scared or nervous to go for a visit, and the staff was always happy to see her. When the day came that we knew we had to let her go they couldn't have been more supportive or gentle. You know it is a good place when the staff is visibly saddened by the loss as well. It's only been a few days and yesterday in the mail we received handwritten condolences as well as a few keepsakes such as a lock of my Brandy's hair and some flower seeds to plant in her memory. These are good and kind people who will give their all for you and your pet. They are professional without being cold. These are the type of people you want caring for your pet in any emergency situation.

THIS IS A WARNING !!! Outrageously expensive is one thing but to charge almost $10,000 is another, and lose your cherished pet. I took my Sheltie in on a Friday and by Tuesday, after calling me everyday and saying he just needs one more transfusion and he will be fine to, we need to put him down. He was misdiagnosed from the beginning and they would not listen to me. After researching I realize he was terminal but if I had been given the correct diagnosis and prognosis he would have been home with me and not lying all alone 2 hours away from me. I would not have had a 10,000.00 vet bill either. I will never get the vision out of my head of him looking at me with those big beautiful brown eyes, like Mom want is going on.............Miss you Zackie

My dog ingested a small piece of object. A small piece of toy I'm assuming. Went to my vet she's suggest that I go to blue pearl or otherwise I would possible wake up to a dead dog. I get to blue pearl the vet tech gives me options to either get surgery or keep my dog overnight to see if the piece of plastic passes through the intestine.. I ask her if it could possibly be a ball of hair beside the piece of toy I observed earlier and she tells me that "they can actually see what it is." (she got an X-ray done) Take that which ever way you will. But I felt a great sense of pressure to her through surgery. I couldn't imagine my dog staying the night and needing surgery the next day. She stays overnight gets the surgery and it turns out that she somehow passed it. I am now 4,000 in debt for a surgery that wasn't needed. I suggest if you have young healthy dog to invest in insurance. Do you're research and check reviews on vet hospitals. I sure learned my lesson to avoid unexpected things like this. Next time Ill head down south for emergencies as such.

I took my precious 2-1/2 year old standard poodle to this facility with an autoimmune disease and was told she had a 75% chance of being ok. Dr. Day was on duty and treated her. i went home to get my husband, upon my return, oops, she was given a double dose of chemo. we sat with her in her cage and witnessed another dog put down with the family. once the family left the dog was treated differently than when the family was around. i was appalled. My baby began to deteriorate rapidly. went home. around 2 a.m. i was called and said she suffered a stroke, likely from the medicine. she was in very bad shape and i authorized her being put down but their first question was how was i going to pay for it. they wanted credit card authorization before the call ended. my heart was breaking. I had given them $2K when i admitted her to cover costs. all they cared about was covering costs. i felt like her death was a result of their incompetence and there was nothing i could do about it. I will never, ever, ever take another family pet there again. when i returned to pick up her belongings and cover the cost i felt they were faking their feelings for my loss. I was less than impressed with Dr. Day, his tatoos and his interest in his young help.

Horrible experience for both me and my cat. They have zero communication skills or compassion for animals and their owners. My cat is such a gentle animal and would never hurt a fly and she was so traumatized by the way they handled her that she peed all over herself. None of the staff ever introduced themselves to us, just took our information and our cat back and we waited for 2 hours. Had to track someone down to get an update and when the vet tech was bringing her back, she was just swinging her cage back and forth with no care for her. The only reason I took her there was due to the nature of the emergency and that they were the only vet open. Thankfully I was able to take my cat to our vet the next day and was seen almost immediately and received the service BluePearl should have provided. I will never take my animals there again and will never recommend them to anyone. Edit: I declined the “diagnostic test” because at that point, my cat had been in their possession for 2 hours and when someone finally came back to the room, they didn’t introduce themselves and just sat down and said, “So what’s going on?” I don’t know, you tell me. You’ve had my cat for 2 hours. Has she even been examined? And then they respond, “Oh your cat wouldn’t let us examine her. She was too aggressive: hissing and growling. And then she peed all over herself and me and my tech. So before we can do anything we will have to sedate her.” I’m sorry my sick cat was not making your job easier on you. I will not put my cat (who is extremely well tempered and would have had to be traumatized to react the way she did) through being sedated just so you can do your job. And to top it all off: I brought in a stool sample and they said they don’t know how to do a fecal exam. I thought this was supposed to be an emergency hospital.

We took our german shepherd in tonight and Shaun was absolutely great with him. Our doggo is normally nervous at the vet and he was so comfortable with Shaun and actually went up to him to give him kisses. He listened to what we had to say and asked several questions to better understand what was going on. The vet thoroughly explained to us all of our options and even gave us a budget of what we could expect if we decided to go with each avenue. I cannot say enough great things about how friendly and kind this vet was towards our dog and ourselves!

Matt Brummett

The doctors and techs here do wonderful work. My dog Jack had cancer and was given only a few months to live, but with the help of Dr. Heebe and staff, he lived for another year and a half. Jack passed earlier today, and Dr. Heebe actually called me with her condolences. Unbelievable that she would remember and just shows you how much they really do care about these animals. Blue Pearl should be very proud of the work they do.

Sharon M

They are very compassionate and professional. I can not speak highly enough of everyone. The critical care team is amazing and not only saved my dog but also took the time to explain things to us after she was stabilized. Also the cardiology staff is amazing. I never am concerned that the care is not the best.

Rachel Bogom

Dr. Sherger is the very best Veterinary Oncologist in NJ. I took my cat to him close to a year and a half ago. I thought I was about to lose her. He diagnosed her with Multiple Myeloma and he has been treating her ever since. He explains everything thoroughly and patiently. He is available by e-mail and phone. He is knowledgeable and compassionate and interested in hearing updates. He is a true animal lover and I am very happy with the results!!!

Lisa Karlsen

Wonderful care!! From the front desk reception to the veterniarian everyone was friendly, compassionate, and caring. Love that they are so close and open 24/7.

Brittney Army

The staff at blue pearl is amazing! Over the last few weeks of our dog's life they spoke to us over the phone and guided us in giving him the best care. Letting him go was hard but blue pearl made it a peaceful experience. Today we recieved a note with their condolences in the mail. Truly caring staff!

Truly excellent veterinary practice for emergency treatment and specialist treatment/procedures. The staff, from the reception staff to veterinary nurses to doctors are so thoroughly well trained, professional, caring, and compassionate. It's very apparent that the veterinary doctors here are the very best; they make you feel informed, explain the situation thoroughly and clearly, and importantly make you feel like your pet is in the best hands possible. The practice is clean, well-run, modern, and would thoroughly recommend for emergencies and specialist situations.

My beloved pom recently had a bout of pancreatitis. His symptoms continued to increase over four days at which time I was certain there was something seriously wrong and felt that he needed attention immediately. Although it probably was not a true life or death emergency, I perceived it as such and therefore I chose to take him to Blue Pearl instead of my regular vet. I cannot say enough good things about Blue Pearl. Yes, it may be more expensive than a regular vet, yes they do extensive testing but that is why I took my baby to an emergency center. I wanted no stone unturned and I wanted it done immediately. As for the price, I can't put a price on someone or something that I love. Dr. Schmidtchen and Dr. Cummings as well as the entire staff were so wonderful and empathetic especially in dealing with me as I was probably in worse shape emotionally than my baby. I have been taking my babies to LVES/Blue Pearl for almost 20 years for emergencies and I am very grateful we have an emergency center like Blue Pearl in Louisville. Thank you so much.

Michael Guzman

Took my dog so they can deliver puppies, since I didn't have 3 grand on me they told me, they can't do anything and told me to take my dog to another vet or she will die

Jeff Turner

They are so amazing hear words can't express how grateful I am to them ! Thank you so very much !!

Ivy Huynh

They save my dog and of course when you go to emergency it will be expensive. I love every one from the receptionist to the doctor. They are nice and friendly. Highly recommend it if your pets need emergency services. I really satisfy with the services even I pay a lot of $$$. It worth it.

Jay G

I love this place the staff was very friendly and very professional the service was great and pricing was very reasonable. I would highly recommend this place to everyone.

The 3.2 out of 5 stars speaks for itself.

nathaly pizarro

If i could rate you guys as zero star i definitely would ! Terrible place dont take your pets here they do everything behind closed doors you dont know what they really do behind them closed doors ask you irrelevant questions as if you were the vet and then charge 200 just for a consult . Never again all they want is your money !

Colleen Blackwell

We are SO very thankful for the staff, doctors, and vet techs who cared for our six-month old puppy. When we visited BluePearl, they were able to identify the issues she was having, explain the situation to us, share care recommendations, and provide a low-end and high-end estimate of her care cost. Murphy spent three days in the puppy icu receiving IV fluids and around the clock care. We were able to visit her and were comforted by the attention that she was receiving. They kept us up to date by calling after they ran tests, and we could even call in for an additional update if we wanted to. It was a very scary situation for us, but the BluePearl team helped to keep us at ease knowing that they truly knew what they were doing. We will always be appreciative for the care and love shown to Murphy and us during those three days. Thank you!!!

Steve Ayers

Had a sick puppy. The day we took him to Blue Pearl we were quoted a minimum of $600 and maximum cost of $1100 for his treatment. We were told the maximum was the "worst case scenario" and that we wouldn't be charged any more than that. Picked up puppy today, Christmas Eve. Bill was $1800. When we asked about how the bill ballooned they said "Well, if you want to try and get it lowered, you can wait for the Doctor. But she's running errands and it will be a few hours." So basically wait hours just to talk to the Doctor, on Christmas Eve, or pay the giant bill. Looking over the charges, they basically upgraded every possible thing they could to a higher cost alternative. We will definitely be looking elsewhere if we ever need emergency vet care again. BUYER BEWARE. Don't trust any estimates from this place. They'll jack up the charges and basically threaten to keep your animal if you don't pay.

Kelly Bastidas

Dr. Jeffrey Beverley was nice, however, he said one thing first-- he said he would show us how to take out the dog's stitches-- but when his technician came out afterwards, she said he hadn't said that, which was total BS. He didn't come out to clarify what he had said like any doctor would've (there was no one in the ER but us). We know what we heard.

Nicole

We brought our eldest hamster here who was passing away but we wanted to put her down so she wasn't in pain. We rushed here at around 11 pm and they saw us immediately. Everyone that worked there was so incredibly sweet and respectful and caring. I've never experienced such amazing customer service at an animal hospital. They took Shae in and put her down and let us know how it went. They even went the extra mile and got her footprints and sent us a card that put me in tears. After everything was over we were worried about the price because we have had many experiences where a vet overcharges us but they were kind enough to only charge us for the cremation which was also way cheaper than any vet we've been to to put an animal down and cremate them. I don't think I'll ever be able to thank BluePearl Pet Hospital enough, but thank you so so much to everyone who helped us!

Lacey Padgett

We have been to Blue Pearl twice in the past two years. Once to visit CVCA with our pup Nash, she needed heart surgery and they recommended us to Purdue. The team was so helpful and kind, and answered all of my questions (even when I called multiple times a day). Then about 8-9 months later, Nash needed another surgery, this time we did it at Blue Pearl. There wasn't a surgeon there that day, but they called one in, and he treated us with so much respect and kindness. Every person there was so helpful. Is the cost high, absolutely. Is my dogs life worth it, absolutely. They even helped us find options to pay! We will forever be grateful to the staff at Blue Pearl! They treat your furry animal as if it were their own.

tina heston

Last night we had to rush our cat on an emergency visit to BluePearl and I am very thankful for everything they did for him and us in the last moments of his life. Everything from the directions to their location when I called to the moment we walked out the door was filled with compassion, professionalism, and a sense of urgency. Thank you again.

Denise Zeydel

Our older kitty recently had to have emergency eye surgery at BluePearl. While yes it was expensive I love how they have treated myself and my kitty. Dr. Tolar called me herself twice prior to the surgery and twice after. She even called after hours to check on my kitty. They have all been very kind. I have even received calls today checking on him. I recently had to take another kitty to a different emergency vet. The experience was completely the opposite. This was very welcomed and appreciated for a very stressed pet parent.

Matt ElSabry

The entire staff is amazing! They saved my dogs life!

Laura Mehta

Dr. Davidson, Jose, Gena, Ally and all of the staff at Blue Pearl Paramus treated our dog with such compassion and kindness. We started taking our beloved Micky to Blue Pearl in July of this year. There was little hope for him at this time. He was dying from chronic kidney failure, which came quite swiftly. Several other veterinary practices dismissed us and said, "put him down". We called every animal hospital from NY to DC, Blue Pearl was the only place equipped to to help. We were provided realistic expectations of what treatment could do for our dog. Our time was limited, but we got another 3 outstanding months with our baby dog. A chance to say good-bye to him, a chance we would not have otherwise had. I am ever grateful this sad journey was spent with such a competent team of animal loving people.

WiseRock Man

Your staff is heartless. I'd give you negative stars if i could. Be warned people the "Staff" here is very cruel towards your pets behind closed doors! SHAME ON YOU!!

Diane Waterman

I was from out of town and my 3yr old puggle ate some mouse poison. They were the closest and only hospital open . I called ahead and they were ready when I arrived . I was extremely upset and nervous . The staff and Dr . Ruth Schmidtchen were so kind and understanding. They kept my Molly overnight for observation . I felt confident my dog was in good hands . The next morning Dr Schmidtchen called to tell me Molly did great and can go home . Thank you for taking such good care of my little Molly !

Worst place ever to take your loved one. Lost my dog with these money bandits. Stay away from this place.

They were very helpful. I brought my cat in, who sadly needed to be put to sleep, and they handled the situation very well. I was a shattered mess, and they helped me very much.

Ii don’t feel they did everything possible to save my 5 week old chow puppy that had gobbled to much food and got stuck in her trach! They didn’t x Ray her or try to scope out the blockage. I seen my baby one last time for about 5 minutes and seemed to have something stuck in her airway, did not see them do anything to her,. Then she had cardiac arrest because oxygen was cut off to her by a blockage, they did nothing to save or clear airway? To them it was all about money. Like we were millionaires ! My chow baby Paisley was expensive and I will get an attorney to file a suit of malpractice for not doing x rays and not trying to clear her airway!!!! Would not recommend this place to a working man!!! Will contact my Lawyer to see suit for damages and the loss of my 5 generation Champion blood line chow chow 5 weeks old!! I want reimbursed for champ line chow and a red female or I will ask for more.! They could have cleared her airway and if we said we had lots of money they would have done that! I called and ask for the CEOs number, and they connected me to a branch managers voice mail. I will file a complaint with the Attorney General w the state of Kansas . Read further and you will hear the exact thing from other people! They killed my dog!! They will pay!

While the vets got my dog in , took Xrays and gave her some fluids last night that was the only good part of my trip. I brought her in concerned about a blockage so that’s what they wanted to look for. The xrays didn’t show anything so they wanted to do an ultrasound but that couldn’t be done until 8am when other staff came in, and if nothing was found there they mentioned exploratory surgery. keeping her overnight with an iv was going to be $500, after the $500 we already paid for the emergency visit and an X-ray . We took her home around 2am and she was stable for a couple hours. 6:30am it was time to get her in again so I went to my usual vet who immediately wanted to do blood work. Comes to find out she has an infection in her pancreas. He kept her all day on fluids and antibiotics, did another X-ray, and sent us home with 3 prescriptions. $360. I’m enraged now that my dog is starting to feel better knowing that blue pearl was willing to do surgery without trying all other options. And what’s the point of an emergency vet when the people there can’t do what needs to be done?? Not the first time I’ve had this sort of experience with them. Blue pearl will always be my very last option and I dread having to use it.

Katrina Cosico

I came in as an emergency with my cat who had labored breathing. They placed him in an oxygen tank as soon as we arrived and came back to me with an explanation of the bill. I was confused because it had 2 estimated prices of what needed to be done. I’ve never seen a place give you 2 prices - a low amount and a high amount in which the high amount included $400 miscellaneous charge. They wanted me to pay the median of the low and high price to be able to proceed with the needed care for my cat. Needless to say, I took my cat home the next day breathing better but with a bill close to $3600. My cat ended up having cancer and I brought him else where. He was treated with the same procedures twice and it was 1/3 of the cost of Blue Pearl. They didn’t make me pay up front nor did they have 2 unnecessary low and high bill payments . Even the medication Blue Pearl gave were expensive -15 pills for $50 whereas the other Vet had it - 30 pills for $25. They rob you of your money. Point being, I’m thankful Blue Pearl treated my cat that day but would I go back? That’s a definite NO.

Our experience at Blue Pearl was excellent! My 12-year old beagle mix was diagnosed with cancer in her lip... we were referred to Blue Pearl after it returned from surgery with my usual vet. Dr. Millard was able to remove all of it and my dog came out of that 2nd surgery at just as lively as could be! There was virtually no down time for her, so their use of anesthesia is top notch. Doctor and staff were very comforting and professional!

Karla Salazar

Very unprofessional service by the receptionist. She was unfriendly, rude, and incompetent. She was bothered when I asked her what type of examination they would do to my dog and raised her voice when she had to answer, and even pushed herself off the counter and said "Somebody take care of these people". I can say she is definitely in the wrong industry. Unfortunately, I was unable to get her name but it was the heavier girl with the reddish hair. I came in very worried as my dog was feeling sick and the last thing I was looking for is to get yelled that in the clinic I am bringing my dog to get examined. I did not feel comfortable and left without my dog being examined. Never coming to this place again.

Steve Dieker

The staff was nice and they were open on a Sunday. Beyond that they didn't help my dog. They misdiagnosed, well really didn't diagnose it at all and sold us some medication that we are not using since we went to another vet for a proper diagnosis. I would understand if they had just said " I don't know what is wrong with your dog." Instead we spent a bunch of money for pretty much nothing. I am not a big fan of leaving a business a crappy review but we gave them an opportunity to try to make it right, they chose not to. I will add that I edited this review. I had initially said the staff was nice and that it was expensive. Then the dog continued to decline until we went to 2 other vets. Finally found one that knew what was wrong in about a minutes time.

My Brittany ate a big rock and these guys kept him safe! Great staff!

Klita M Velaj

What a horrible staff! Essentially went in for an emergency appointment that costed $1300. They ended up messing up my pet’s medication, and then proceeded to rudely hang up on me when I called to ask a question about a post op. Who hires these morons?! Some 20 year old young girls working at the hospital who don’t want anything to do with you after you get a procedure done by them. I am appalled at the way they handle things. It’s truly sad how they talk to their patients. I am waiting patiently to see if my dog heals because I am just about ready to sue. Best, A paying patient

We took our dog in about 3 weeks ago because it has been peeing blood. It took us forever to be seen by the Dr. When the doctor spoke to us he recommend some antibiotics which would be $100 or we could do a little less effective antibiotic for $50. He STRESSED that the antibiotics for $100 would definitely get rid of the issue. He said they would "Knock this out of the park" and that he wanted to "bring in the big guns". That being said, IT DIDN'T WORK. So, after paying $200 total we're left with the same issue. In fact, it is now worse. We tried calling and they just keep saying we would have to come in and pay another $100 for an appointment to even be seen or speak to the doctor. I really feel like they were just trying to make money off of us by talking us into paying for the more expensive antibiotic. If they really cared they would stand by their word, but they wont even let us speak to the doctor. Now we have to go and try to find a new bet to take our dog to and start all over. I wouldn't recommend anyone going here. They are very dishonest and don't stick to their word. I would even be fine with paying for a different antibiotic if that's what the doctor recommends, but like I said I cant even SPEAK to the doctor without paying $100 for an appointment.

I went to the closest hospital when my little girl got a hold of some brownies on a Sunday. The closest place was not Blue Pearl. After waiting 30 minutes in the waiting room at this other place worried about the chocolate digesting as we waited to be seen. I called Blue Pearl. They told me the longer she waited the worse it was. The longer that it was digested the less likely it would be to come up and it might get to far gone depending how long ago she ate it. Immediately I had to make a decision, wait or drive the 10 minutes to Blue Pearl. The staff where I was at showed no regard for the situation or my concern and could not answer how long it would be when I walked back inside after hanging up with the polite girl from Blue Pearl. They had called for triage 4 times in a 30 minute period but no one came to get my dog, she could have died in the waiting room and no one would have cared. That horrendous place is called Metropolitan Animal Hospital. I will never go back and I thank blue pearl for the advice and practically meeting me at the door and taking my baby back to induce vomiting. Everything came out fine and I am so appreciative to them. Money was no problem when it came to this emergency I would have done anything, but on the bright side it was actually cheaper for the initial exam at blue pearl. I will never go anywhere else, and I can't believe that other hospital is still in business treating flat out toxic emergencies like a small cough.

I have been to this location now 4 separate times in the last 10 years. This morning's visit was another wonderful experience. Dr. Bloudin was kind and thorough. There was no push for diagnostic tests, simply a discussion about various courses of treatment. In reviewing the bill, I believe we paid about $15 more for the visit than we would have at the regular vet, who was not available. I will continue to use Blue Pearl for emergency services for my pets.

I have to say I had no where to go on a Saturday night and I found this place my cat was 18 years old my strong girl so she couldn't get up to walk I guess from her age it was time. I rushed her over to blue pearl and when i got there they came out so quickly, and took her from me which I found to be great and after checking her I had to put her down I love that I could stay with her as long as I did and there all so nice and kept checking on us..The only thing i wasn't crazy about was the receptionist after I had put my cat down I had to pick my cat up to take her to the funeral home to get my ashes done for her which wasn't easy, she made me wait while and said the phone are busy, so at that point i got very upset besides her the doctors and everyone else was GREAT. it was already hard to do this and I chose to do this cause if they did it was going to be over $400 so me picking her up cost me $215 to have her put to rest

Our dog got hit by a car, and we rushed her to Blue Pearl immediately. She was immediately put on a stretcher and rushed to the back where she was seen and assessed by the staff. After the initial workup (approx 30 min), a vet came out and told me what the immediate issues were (broken paw), possible ancillary issues (internal trauma, neurological damage), and the next steps forward. She told me prices before doing anything, and because I am uneducated in veterinary medicine, helped to guide me to an appropriate decision. As the various tests came back, I she kept me informed of how that would affect things. Our dog was kept overnight until the surgeons could see her the next day. The day, I immediately got a call from the surgeon (not a staff member) telling me the results of the evaluation and what my options were. Luckily, she did not require surgery and and there were no other issues but the broken paw. The surgeon made it very clear I was free to call any time 24/7 to check on the pet and, with small children who were extremely worried, we test this out. Each time we called, the staff was amazing! They were friendly and were happy to go and get an up to the minute report on our dog. This put my kids (and myself) at ease! Whenever we had questions, they were absolutely honest in their responses (for example, they suggested we get our dogs bandages changed through our regular vet as it would be cheaper) - so this was a great thing. Yes: the other reviews are all correct: Blue Pearl is extremely expensive. However, with that being said, I do not feel ripped off or taken advantage of. They provided FIRST CLASS service in terms of veterinary care, customer service, cleanliness of the facility, etc. And, at the risk of repeating myself, even through they were expensive, they were extremely forthright in their pricing and even went line. by. line. in explaining an estimate of what I could anticipate. While much of the wording on the estimate reminded me of studying for the SAT, they had no problem putting things into words I could comprehend. Also, it is worth noting that they provided an estimate BEFORE doing things, rather than after the fact. Further, the estimate included a sort of "best case" and "worst case" where they projected the least and most expensive case scenarios. This greatly helped to guide the decision making process. So, the flow of information was timely, efficient, and thorough which, when dealing with a high-stress event, is extremely nice. Each and every person there was extremely nice and helpful to the point that I even went back to thank them for all their help!

Don't go here! The Doctor was very helpful and nice, but the front desk staff is a nightmare! I rushed my dog here after suspected ingesting anti freeze, I thought she may die! They told us that it would be 30-45 minutes, but we waited over an hour in the little room and no one came to update us. We went to the front desk VERY POLITLEY (the sign says to go there if no staff has seen you in over 30 minutes) and they flat out refused to get off their chair, walk 10 feet to give us an update. We were begging to be told if our dog was alive or dead and they actually mocked me, laughed at us and refused to update us and sent us back to the room with NO INFORMATION!! . We had to sit there for another half hour (1 hour 45 minutes total begging and waiting for an update) finally the Dr came in (super nice and helpful) she apologized for the staff but we were shocked that the staff that mocked us did not come to apologize! I can't believe a hospital would employ people like this and allow them to treat clients in a crisis paying $500 like this! Never again!! This place should be shut down, it was a horrible experience.

Bloodsucking money place but 2 of their staff were friendly and helpful not the others...

I have unfortunately had to come here twice in the past 10 days. The doctors and staff both times were amazing. The 1st time, they correctly triaged my dog and got her in immediately. The care was timely and appropriate. The second time was at 3 am about 10 days later. Dog had stopped breathing and they had her in the back and intubated within a minute of us running through the door. They were unable to save her, but they tried hard. She was just too sick. The doctors and staff were very professional and compassionate in what turned into an awful night for us. Thanks, Blue Pearl, you all did your very best.

Brandi Markert

Brought my cat here for an emergency issue in the middle of the night. We were seen promptly (it helped that there were few other patients when we arrived). They were great about answering my questions, even when I called them afterward with some follow-up questions. In terms of payment, the visit was a bit more expensive than a regular vet visit (because it's emergency services). It was about the same price as I've paid for other emergency vet visits for similar health issues, though. And they do take Care Credit, which is always a plus. Would definitely recommend, in situations where you absolutely can't wait to take your pet to their regular vet. But after the visit, definitely follow up with your regular vet, as they know your pet's history better and can provide a second opinion.

Leslie

The team at blue pearl were so responsive. As soon as a patient entered, the team was there taking the patient for treatment. Very caring and loving personnel. No words can express , how fast this team worked. They dont forget your setting there waiting to see your little one.

I agree totally with BigH FunCo's comments about the disrespectful way Blue Pearl handles deceased dogs and their owners. I had been a client of Blue Pearl before it was even Blue Pearl and always felt they were a good clinic. Things have changed as of late, however. From the staff at the front desk loudly discussing politics and their hatred of Trump, as though the people sitting there with their pets aren't important to the judgmental and conflicting things Dr.Gill said to me during my boy's last weekend that made it difficult for me to determine what to do, and then the insulting "remembrance" Blue Pearl sent me of my beautiful boy (a piece of paper with a badly inked impression of a couple of his paws), I just have to cry every time I think about it. I thought you guys had more class and empathy. It appears I was wrong because now it appears that all you care about is getting as much money as you can without putting out even a decent remembrance for owners when their pets die.

Thad Perez

The staff were all friendly and considerate of everyone's different pet situations. The doctor on staff was very explanatory of what was going on with my pet, what steps to take moving forward, and if there was anything else they could help with to not hesitate to call or bring our pet back. They sent the blood work to our primary veterinarian and we were able to get our pet started on a proper diet and medication needed to help his general health the next day. Thanks Blue Pearl!

Kirsten Biocic

I found our emergency visit to be much better than expected. Having needed the service of other emergency vet (which I was most unsatisfied with) I expected to be overcharged and pushed to do expensive testing. It was quite the opposite. They saw us almost immediately on walking in the door, the receptionist, vet tech and especially the vet himself were kind, patient and spent a good amount of time listening and diagnosing. The vet offered us a few options and at no time pressure or presumed we needed to proceed with advanced and expensive testing. The facility was immaculate and modern, the only downfall is that it located on a second floor so stairs or elevator are required which isn’t ideal. I wouldn’t hesitate to go back.

Dj Diener

Amazing experience at BluePearl. Took my dog in who hadn't eaten in 2 days and was vomiting and lethargic. Staff was very quick to get her in, very up front about the cost, and the doctor sat me down and explained everything and answered all of my questions; very professional but also very empathetic towards our situation. Even though the news was not good, they did a great job explaining different treatment options, prices for care, etc. Will 100% be bringing by dogs back here in the future with confidence they will be getting the best treatment possible with staff and Doctors that genuinely care about their patients.

I encourage everyone to read the 1 star reviews b4 going here. Like me I'm sure those people would leave 0 stars if they could. This place misdiagnosed my dog & wanted me to put him down when my bill got to 4k just in 2 days. I pulled him from this hell hold & took him to Shively. With the RIGHT treatment he's fine now & it's no thanks to these crooks. This place is owned by Mars Candy Corperation. I overheard a vet tell a client that Blue Pearl does not provide affordable quality care. Also pleasee read their Facebook 1 star reviews. They've over medicated dogs resulting in death & done surgery in the wrong.

Ryann Green

I have been to this vet twice and each time was very disappointed in the level of service. The first time they misdiagnosed an eye issue. It ended up costing $300 there. What they provided didn't fix the issue. I ended I going to the regular vet and they gave me $20 meds that cleared up her eye within a couple days. This last time I have been even more disappointed in the service. My dog is having issues and got significantly worse last night and we were there two days ago. I called to talk to someone and see if there is anything else we can do. Someone answers the phone. I explained the situation and asked if there is anything else we can do or medicine we can provide. The person tells me no they probably have already done everything and just to wait it out for 7 days. The discharge paperwork clearly states to call and have her reevaluated if she worsens. I have a 80 lbs dog who can't even go outside to go to the bathroom. She was getting better yesterday and walking. Yet, I can't even talk to a vet on the phone.

Kimberly Faith

My dog had an accident and the staff was prompt in treating her and explained things clearly to me and multiple times (as I was distracted the first time). Dr Stamper was patient with me and very helpful. I have called a few times with concerns and they always treat me respectfully and answer all my questions.

Michael DeSalvo

One of the worse pet experiences as a pet owner is finding your pet after they have passed away. After a super quick google search for emergency vets, Blue Pearl was the first to come up. I phoned and spoke with a very nice lady who informed me that they could provide a cremation service for my cat Cali. They welcomed me to bring her in immediately and said that they would take care of her. As I arrived my roommates and I were seated in a 'comfort room' where we were told the doctor would look at Cali and confirm she had passed as well as discuss some cremation packages. A nice man brought a exam table out to my car and he got my cat, then moments later wheeled her into the room in some blankets. We were given as much time as needed for our grieving. The staff was very patient and apologetic for my loss. I was sent home with a keepsake clay paw print, as well as a card with a paw print in it as well. Overall I was highly satisfied with the care, consideration and service provided by Blue Pearl.

Venkatesh Sridharan

Very friendly staff. My cat’s tail got stuck on a very strong fly trap tape and a chunk of hair came out. There was still some glue stuck to it and i was worried that he might get more covers or clothes stuck to it. I got him here on a Friday night at 11.30PM and they took care of him very well.

Tomek K1334

Everybody stay away from this place. Bunch of i..... work there

Thomas Friesema

Called them first to give the heads up on our dogs issues only for them to tell us to go to Oradell Hospital 45 mins later and a $400.00 bill. We also witnessed a owner and her dog wait for an hour while their was an available DR in the back . She got up and walked out disgusted. 0 stars on this place. Go to Newton or Oradell

Ayhana Jordan

WORST PLACE, Dog arrived dead and prior to treatment I asked clearly is he dead and they would not tell me until they started treatment of course which charged me and couldn't give me an exact cost. Do not take your dog here. Even one of the staff says she takes her dog to Oradell that tells you more than enough.

Kevin McCarthy

We visited the center this past Saturday evening for a "emergency" checkup of our "loved one" . The staff proved to be exceptional and genuinely caring. The pricing was in line with most good vets in the area. I feel we were lead to the right place and will recommend to anyone in need of a good vet. Thank you BluePearl. Continue the good work.

Gregory MacBeth

The nurse and doctor were amazingly nice and took the time to talk to us about our pet and her condition.

K Dan

Very happy with service. My vet's office was closed and I chose BluePearl. Sadly we were going there to have my dog euthanized, but BP was very professional and compassionate. The attending vet had an excellent mix of empathy and clinical explanation. Thank you.

Elli Cantrell

Our dog has been acting off since we got her neutered. Our vet recommended us coming here. We are thankful that our dog is okay after the ultrasound. I would've gave them 5 stars but while we were there we saw a dog that was hurt pretty bad and the woman only had $250 and she was told that it wasn't enough. My wife ran after her to see how much she needed and we were going to help her out. But she didn't even know how much herself. Little off putting to know you just turn people away without knowing how much they need.

My cat developed labored breathing, and my regular vet diagnosed it as all sorts of horrors and recommended Blue Pearl for a second opinion. Since I already had the cat in the carrier, I drove straight there, Blue Pearl being a 24/7 emergency facility. I was shown into an exam room. A young male vet came in, reading my description of what was wrong with the cat from the form I had filled out. He did not even look at my cat. He did not even touch her. He rattled off all possible sorts of horrors even worse than those suggested by my regular vet, curtly told me that the cat requires all sorts of expensive tests that guarantee nothing, scolded me for taking up his valuable time while I was processing all that he had just said, reminded me that he was doing me a favor by seeing me on a moment's notice -- IT'S AN EMERGENCY FACILITY -- and informed me that he had to go and didn't have time to wait while I was making a decision. This cost me $197. I'm never setting foot there again.

Surgery was September of 2017 My pup had a 3 thousand dollar surgery to repair a left condyle femural fracture over a month ago. Post surgery all instructions were followed. I kept calling with questions to make sure I was doing everything right since there is so much money riding on this. At the two week check up I was told that my pup isn't using his leg as he should and may require another surgery to his ligaments. HOW DO YOU HAVE A DOGS KNEE OPENED UP AND NOT SEE LIGAMENT DAMAGE?! 3 GRAND FOR THIS!? For Specialists?! I don't think this place is worth the money. I'm sure there are other procedures they probably do well with... but pay attention to the other reviews regarding being price gouged. I feel like I let my pup down for choosing this place, unfortunately for him I can't afford any further treatment after financing 3K... don't end up like me, do better for your pet. He still isn't using it and we may end up having to amputate even after paying 3 grand already. Get an honest opinion regarding outcome. I was never given a straight answer. I kept hearing "he may or he way not" or "It may or it may not" and that's about all I got out of them for probability. At what point do you find it ethical to be honest about probabilities?! The people seemed nice though. Unfortunately that doesn't help my pup.... 9/28/2918 Update: I felt like I needed to provide an update regarding my previous post. So its been a year since his surgery and I can tell you that is bone is completely healed, I'm not sure the state of his ACL or Knee joint but I can tell you he uses the leg today. The leg has built up muscle though it isn't as muscular as the unaffected leg, but he uses it to walk and somewhat when he runs. That may be because its shorter than the other leg so may not be a comfortable run to alternate his weight evenly between the two legs... but its moving and hitting the ground when he runs full speed and when he walks around. He does treat it differently than he does the unaffected one, again I'm not sure if its because its shorter than the other and he can feel that difference or if its painful. I don't think he's putting his full weight on it a year later... that just may be what the rest of his life will be like. So the surgery he had at Blue Pearl was fine in retrospect. I don't think the place is the devil like I did during that first post. But my pup is happy and running around and not just limping around on his bum leg so I'd say its worth it. I've upgraded my score from 1 star to 3 simply because I still think the price is outrageous for a 15 week old pup. Perfect price for a horse maybe, but not a dog. That is just my opinion. Hope this helps someone.

Everyone was amazing!! From the receptionists, to the vet techs, to the doctors I would bring everyone of my animals here. They were absolutely incredible. Very caring and wanted the best for my dog. Would recommend to anyone and everyone!

A tad upset. Working in the Veterinary field, I understand emergencies, critical care patients that are in need, etc. Having arrived at BP for the second time ( first I had a parrot with a ring around his beak. He got stuck playing with a toy, I was told they do not see exotic. As the tech/receptionist went in the back, we managed to get the ring off ourselves. Butter and olive oil works.) This time, my bully had an issue with his leg/and who knows what else.. the tech and receptionist ( tech I believed had a tattoo and receptionist with blonde hair) were absolutely wonderful.. One came downstairs and another with a gurney, helped us get teddy upstairs. He was taken in the back, vitals were good, he was stable. So we waited, and waited, and waited. Again, I and my mother understand things happen... we asked another technician after waiting as long as we did to know how much longer. He started panting and we did not want him having a panic attack.. originally it was suppose to be a few minutes. We were informed once the first emergency was done, the doctor would be out.. wish we were informed right away that she has ICU patients.. The second tech came back out saying "it will be awhile". I asked if it was ok to bring him home. "That's up to you, you can wait". Trying to explain about his breathing ( bullies get this click when they start to get nervous) she kept saying "I understand". I do not think she did.. it was as if he was getting brushed off.. which hurt. When I had asked about getting him downstairs, as the other two girls were super great, and they would gurney him back down. We were told "the elevator is right there". Expressing the gurney in elevator, we were informed about the elevator again. Teddy is scared of floors, and he had a leg issue.. his breathing from panic was off slightly... it was as if it was an issue helping. I been in a car accident with a shoulder messed, and tare in my acl. Helping my dog into a elevator, with my mother was hard. He is 82 pounds.. it's rough. I have advised many people to go there, from other hospitals. Always recommended... Sad thing is, it always has high regards by doctors and practices.. we were questioning about whether we should have just gone to Oradell. It is more expensive and not as new, but they would've seen him right away... we would be home with a diagnosis, meds etc.. instead of waiting for our regular vet to open. It was over 2 and a half hours of waiting. We took him to an emergency because something was wrong, he had a problem. He was unable to walk at first, in pain. All we found out was he was stable. What is the point of going to an emergency hospital.. if not treated as one? He is at 6am still trying to calm from his panic. End of story, ended up going to Oradell. Seen right away, getting chest X-rays and ultrasound. 2.5 hours gone, when he could've been addressed sooner.

I called for a pricing on a surgery. They told me they don't give prices over the phone I would have to come in and have my dog examined for a price. My dog was examined and surgery was set for Monday but it had to be done on Sunday. They just care about the money not your pet. Removing kidney stones is not a uncommon procedure

James K

Mariah Romines

I went there when my dog was diagnosed with lymphoma. I was actually referred to metropolitan veterinarian hospital but they were not able to fit me in in a timely manner. Blue pearl was able to fit me in. I met with oncologist, Dr Alstadt. She was nice and very Gung ho to kick cancers butt. But my dog was almost 16 and having severely abnormal liver enzyme results and had kidney disease. I was assured that she would test my dog to make sure that elspar treatment she was going to give her would be okay. And the other words that it would be appropriate for a dog with liver and kidney issues. They went ahead with the treatment. I found out later that everyone no its not to do that treatment when a dog has liver and kidney issues but I was assured that this would not be an issue. My dog got extremely sick almost immediately. Prior to that visit my dog was at least eating and enjoying walks. after leaving there she had neurological issues, stopped eating, have constant bloody diarrhea, was confused, wouldnt go on walks, and at times would not even move when she was laying down. I was told it would take 24 to 78 hours. I was told it would significantly improve her quality of life while she was still around. It never worked and I had to euthanize her because her deterioration got so bad. then while greiving I received a card from Blue Pearl signed from Dr allstadt saying I am sorry that she did not respond to the treatment fast enough. It made me feel like I was accused of killing my dog. I strongly do not recommend anybody take their dog here. They don't know when it is not good to treat them. My dog was not a science project.

Abey L

They were very busy when we got there, but they got us in as quickly as possible, although they did let others in before us that were in more serious conditions than my dog, which is fine. They seemed to be nice to my dog, did tests quickly, and provided a solution that was effective and not too expensive. On the way out, the receptionist also gave my pup lots of love and treats!

Amanda O'Bryan

Our dog ate rat poison and they quickly to control of the situation. The vet gave us the options and the cost and helped us in our time of need. We are so grateful to them for helping our sweet baby

Melissa Greenblatt

Kind and caring staff at Blue Pearl especially Dr. Suliman Al-Ghazlat, who spoke with us st length in the middle of the night regarding an emergency with our puppy. He also called us and our vet the following morning to check up on him.

Lindsay Dress

I am usually lacking compliments for an emergency vet clinic, but I cannot say enough great things about Blue Pearl. We had a very serious surgery done on an older pet and the level of detail and explanation they went into and still maintained a high level of empathy, was just unbelievable. They have some of the BEST and kindest doctors working for them. Cannot say enough good things about Dr. Miller and Dr. Blouin and the entire staff.

Helena Zh

How can you believe a doctor keep pushing you to put your pet down? It is the killer not life saver. "If he has cancer would you like to put him to sleep?" "If he will get worse would you like to put him to sleep?" "I suspect he will die, take him back to blue pearl and put him to sleep?" Agree with other reviews the doctors here are good at using your emotion to seek money. Paid thousands of money there. Taking care my pet home now. I am so happy to make the right desicion to leave this hospital. My pet is not died as your suspect.

Kathy Perry

I don't like that they will not let you be worth you pet while they examine it. Also I was there once when I overheard a conversation with another pet parent. They were going to treat a dog that ate some raw hamburger. Dog's eat meat why would you torture this animal to make a quick buck. Avoid this place if you can

Rachel Kowalski

I went to this animal hospital when my dog's eye was injured. I was very upset and concerned, but the staff and veterinarian handled everything very efficiently, professionally and most of all better than any veterinarian I have ever taken my pets to. They have specialists for all kinds of areas, such as an eye specialist. They offered many options and helped walk me through all of them until I chose What I thought was best for my dog. They put me at ease and got my dog back to full health on the best path possible. I would recommend this animal hospital to anyone seeking these kind of services. The only drawback was that the services can be on the pricey side.

Lindsay Nice

***update*** i received a message from paul M. On here (no phone call even though he has access to my account and contact info) i called and asked for him, he was "busy" so i left my info for him to call me back, its been days and i have not got a call back. I know it looks like they care because they posted a response to a review. However it's a shallow gesture if they never actually talk to you. ****I will Never, Never Never go back to this place. My husband, 8 year old son and I rushed our dog to the vet last saturday, she had thrown up on the porch, was unresponsive and had a major head wound. The front desk girls were great, they got us right back and were very nice, however when the "Vet" came in to talk to us she was rude, crass and down right snarky. She told us our options are to leave the dog there over night for observation and that would cost $1,500-$2,300...if the dog gets better great, if not they would have to do "exploitative surgery" and that would cost close to $5,000. Then when we made the comment of taking her home and seeing how the night goes (knowing that if she got worse we could always being her back, but if she got better than we would have saved the extra expense of them keeping an eye on her) she flat out said that if we take her home we need to prepare our self for her to die. Remember my 8 year old son was in the room. After asking her and our son to step out of the room so we could talk, we decided the best option was to take her home, let her be with her people and do everything we can to make her comfortable. when she came back in we told her our plan and i asked if we could get some pain medication to give to her for the next few nights, she rolled her eyes and said "ya, i guess". We asked a few times regarding the large wound on her head and asked if it should be stitched or stapled up, every time we asked she avoided the question and final said "im not concerned with the cut on her head". Fast forward a week....The dog is doing fine however the cut on her head was still not healing well, shes been on antibiotics so there is not sign of infection but it's still very weepy and bloody and not healing. I took her to my vet, the second he touched her head it split back open and he said "this should have been stitched up right away the tissue is to far apart and will not heal right without stitches"...as i type this she's now back at the vet, getting sedated so she can get stitches. moral of the story....i paid almost $600 at bluepearl to see my son cry and get a bottle of antibiotics and pain pills, now i have to spend another $300 for her to get stitches...something that should have happened last week at BluePearl!. i just talked to Greg Harvey- the manager at Blue Pearl and although he was very nice and willing to look into this matter they are not going to do anything to remedy this situation and the lack of poor service/attention. He flat out said "we are not the only emergency vet in this area and people need to know that", he also told me "be glad your getting stitches at your vet because if you got them here it would have cost 3x as much". I am so beyond upset with the way this place does business. i will be contacting everyone and anyone that will listen...my local news, every media outlet i can get my hands on as well as BBB to draw attention to the fact that this place does not care about pets, they care about how much they can make off a person and the sad situation.

Experience started OK, finished poorly. Was quoted in the exam room one price for a procedure and was charged another. After speaking with the vet and getting the finalization of actions 30 minutes later was able to receive the medicine

Super happy with everything. Our cat was half-dead when we brought him in. They saved his life. The price estimates we were given were on target (they were uncertain at first as to what exactly was wrong with him) and everyone was very up front with his plan of care, estimated cost, etc. Dr. Dennis was great, kept us informed and I trusted him implicitly; the nurses who walked us through the insulin and tube feeding process were kind and helpful. We even brought him back because he had started acting lethargic again and they switched his antibiotics and monitored him for the day at no charge. I never at any point doubted that he was getting the best care.

We had an emergency situation with our dog and these people were so rude. They gave us dirty looks from the time we walked in to the time we left. The vet yelled at us and called one of the owners of the dog an a**hole. They treat you like you don't know anything about your own dog. (Calling me a liar when talking about my own dog) They price gauge unbelievably. ($417 for an ultrasound that costs $80 at a normal vet office) If you need to go somewhere, or if you are in an emergency, they will take advantage and charge you more money than you should be paying, especially when you are in a crisis with your fur baby.

I can't say enough great things about this place. Came in on emergency bc my small Chihuahua was hit by a car. As a veterinary professional myself, I can not thank you for the compassion and care you provided all from the Assistant, Tech, and Doctor. The Treatment plan (aka estimate) was not an unreasonable price in order to manage the issues at hand, however we chose to euthanize due to age, pre existing diseases, and ect NOT because of the cost. I was hesitant to bring my dog bc I have always went to Oradelle but it was well worth the switch for an emergency hospital. Side note, my 1 dog and cat also donate blood here and we are grateful to be able to save other pets lives. Thank you Blue Pearl Staff for all that you do ❤

I am very disgusted with the simple fact that this place just wants money. I called them the other night expressing concern for my three month old morkie. The fake sense of empathy that I felt from whoever I was on the phone with disgusted me. My little Daisy slid down an entire set of stairs in my attempts to prevent her from being near the stairs in the first place, which I take full responsibility for. “She’ll be OK” is what they said after I said that I know she has a poor history from D&G Puppy Store. I don’t know why this damn lady on the phone had the nerve to say that if I want immediate attention for my puppy that it would be $170 just to come in.. that is a load of bull, do not take your business here.

My dog had to have a cardiac ultrasound for a heart murmur recently at Blue Pearl, the staff was very friendly and took my nervous dog back and the procedure was completed quickly. It was expensive $350 but I felt like they took great care of her. The waiting room was a little busy with so many pets freaking out and people but that was my only complaint.

So impressed! I had heard good things about Blue Pearl but last night I experienced it! I own a dog training school so over the last 30 years I have encountered a LOT of vets directly and indirectly. From the moment I walked in, Blue Pearl's staff was patient, thorough and empathized with the high cost of emergency care for my dog, without my even saying anything. It was clear that their motive is not to charge as much as possible because the owner loves their dog, it was "let's do the right thing for this dog without overcharging the owner!" My dog training school will be referring ALL of our students to to Blue Pearl for emergency care!

My kitty had a major diabetic episode at 3:00 am this last weekend. Thank god Blue Pearl was there for us. They took great care with my Opal Ann. The staff was very caring with both myself and Opal Ann. My girl is on the mend but still has a long road to recovery but knowing that Blue Pearl is there if we need them when my regular vet is closed gives me much comfort. Thank you so much to the entire staff.

The staff was extremely professional and kind. Dr. Tolar was very nice, helped us to understand the treatment plan, and medications to treat Ellie’s condition.

They only want money. I was send there by my regular vet. Thinking they fit everything emergency. My dog need a ultrasound. It extra to call the person back to do that. I figure if it is emergency why wouldn't one be there at all times. They all just want money. They don't care about your pets. At all. They care about what they can make I love my dog. And they take advantage of how you feel about your pet. Just beware

Make sure your oxygen chambers are actually working and temperature controlled. Nothing worse than an old dog with lung function issues locked in a oxygen cage and its not functioning. I came to check on him n he's covered in his own blood n feces. If i had not insisted to go in the back for a visit no telling the out come..shut ur hospital down.

My Saint Bernard received wonderful care at Blue Pearl over the weekend! We had never been there before and were referred by our primary vet. Our experience was fantastic both times we went. The staff treated me friendly and respectfully. They took great care of my Saint. I had the opportunity to observe the practice as we waited the 2nd time we visited. The staff appropriately prioritized their service to the animals based on their emergent needs. I was approached twice, while we were waiting, by staff apologizing for the wait. There was no need to as it is was evident they were very busy and busy with severe cases. I would not have felt right if they had served my pup before taking care of the ones in critical serious trouble. Shout out to Doc Bluin for answering every last question I had and there were plenty, with patience ! You all are doing good work. I, for one, am thankful we are fortunate enough to have this service and the talent within right here in our community!

This place is as top notch as it gets. My dog had emergency surgery and they were quick, thorough and beyond helpful to ease our minds. They were clear and straightforward with all of the information throughout the whole process. Post surgery I've called a lot and they are unbelievably helpful. Linda is amazing and is willing to listen to every concern, big or small. But really everyone there is that way. They never make you feel stupid for asking questions or making mistakes. Im just so thankful for them during this time!

I took my Shih Tzu in on 4-18-18 for an ultrasound...notably one of the staff, Jamie, absolutely, positively made me feel so less stressed I cannot thank her enough. She was thoughtful, kind, caring and sincere when we spoke prior to the procedure. I am certain the Dr performing this procedure, Catherine Peace , was as compassionate and sincere as Jamie. I was a nervous wreck and Jamie calmed my fears . Sincerely...Bill Crable

Veterinarians are great and honest about treatments, receptionists not so much. Our dog was showing symptoms of a stroke on a Saturday night when our veterinarian was not going to be available until Monday afternoon so we took her Sunday morning to blue pearl. They said it could be vestibular disease or a tumor in her brain and suggested we either put her down or keep her in observation for the night. As Monday approached, she showed no signs of getting better so the veterinarian suggested that she should be put down. As we were grieving and laying on the floor with our dog’s lifeless body, the receptionist barged into our room to ask us if we wanted to pay for her euthanization and cremation now or when we were done. There was no apology for interrupting us at such a sensitive time, it was not as if we were about to skip out on paying either.

Took my dog into blue pearl for excessive bleeding from her nose. We had to go in late at night because how bad she was bleeding from her nose. They talked us into a ct scan and every blood test they could. I visited her after the scan because they wanted to keep her another night. There was blood all over her pen, feet, face, and outside of the pen she was in. No food or water in sight. She looked miserable. We took her home the next day and was told that the ct scan and biopsy results would be in 3 to 5 days. Today is the 5th day. We have called all day trying to talk with the dr. They would not let us and said they would call at the end of the day. When we did get a call back it was not from the dr, it was from a receptionist that told me that our dr is the only one that can go over her test results and he won't be back until Thursday! This is unacceptable! By the way I have already been charged 3300.00 and do not have any answers. This has been the worst experience I have ever had with a vet. Seems like these people just want money and don't care about the animal. You would think if you have as many bad reviews as good reviews you would try and make a change?

Excellent, caring staff. Very competent and professional. Our dog of 12 years was experiencing obvious internal distress late Saturday night. We brought her to Blue Pearl where she was quickly but thoroughly diagnosed and the options were patiently and professionally explained to us. Thank you for for your kindness, patience and competence.

took my lil pompom there. they were very honest with pricing and options and even recommended a few other places for less immediate treatment in order to aid in cost. Everyone was pleasant and informative. I would recommend for the emergent cases.
