REVIEWS OF Virginia Museum of Fine Arts IN Virginia

Steven Lowell

Really neat museum! I do have to say the layout of the building is a bit of an artwork itself. Actually thought the building was quite small but it seems like every turn there's a new gallery. I was there 3 hrs. Had some lunch too and I love sitting outside by this really cool art piece. It's hard to look at LOL

Peter Tan

Really nice museum. A lot bigger than it seems when you first walk in. There's a very good selection of art pieces dating back from the ancient Egyptians. The fact that it is free makes it all the better. Pretty quiet place. Would definitely recommend!

Jule Mueller

Discover something new about history, art, or any part of the world in VMFA. I love to stroll through the gardens or spend a day finding new pieces. The special exhibits are amazing.

Daniel Breach

Great selection of fine art and no required admission. Lots of variety, plenty of events on the weekends as well. Highly recommend it.

Pappa Behr

Went for the Chinese festival and was amazed by everything there was to see. Saw a few different performances that were apart of the festival it's self. Managed to catch the "Congo Masks" show they had there, as well. Managed to explore a few other sections from modern art to the "marble hall". And I'm sure I still did not see everything there was to offer. Parking was $5 for non members. Cafe was a little pricey but considering it was a museum, the price point is right in line with all others I have been to. Staff was friendly and answered what questions I had. Definitely looking forward to returning with more time.

Boris Budagyan

Great place, free admission to main expositions which allow you within one hour to walk through the history of world cultures and the art. Faberge exposition was amazing! Surrounding the museum area is very beautiful and well taking care of.

Jaye Lambert

I've been to museums all over the world, but have never encountered one that is so welcoming and eager to make the museum experience enjoyable for everyone. It's situated in a beautiful, natural setting right in the heart of a busy city. The permanent galleries are open and inviting, and the traveling shows are beautifully staged. Best of all, the main museum is free for everyone to enjoy.

Kevin Pye

A very well laid out place. Many different rooms for the different regions and time periods of art.

Lia Riris

Free entrance with something to do for everyone. Really diverse exhibits from ancient Roman cases to 20th century Russian Faberge eggs. Highly recommend!

Alex Alexander

Outstanding museum. You need 2-3 days to see everything. Take your time and explore

Heidi Engel

Free entry, all kinds of exhibits, both wall hanging pieces and artifacts. Multiple buildings and a nice snack shop as well. Very good for a few hours visit to a very nice Art museum.

Beatrix Roman

This is an amazing place to spend time with your family or friends, the art is beautiful. The pieces outside of the building are stunning. I would 100% recommend this for a fun evening

Monica Dailey

The absolutely perfect spot for a hot day! The Elizabeth Locke exhibit is amazing and will be open through the summer. The gift shop is beautifully done ... from jewelry to books, exhibit-related section, greeting cards. VMFA provides Richmonders with a world class venue that regularly offers first class traveling and permanent exhibits, e.g., the recent Holler collection of stunningly impressive etchings, in an aesthetically impressive complex.

Christy Eliades

The pride of Richmond! The VAMFA is a vibrant, dynamic and forward thinking art museum. Open 365 days a year with many special events it is the gem in our crown!

Modisch H

It is a Richmond landmark and the city is fortunate to have it. Having lived in DC, I was spoiled by the Smithsonian. Having traveled to other cities, I've seen how expensive many museums can be. The VMFA's exhibits of their permanent collection are free, excellent, and change regularly. You only need to pay for the special exhibits and they are worth it. Discounts are usually available for educators, military, and state employees and there are often opportunities to get free tickets or view the special exhibits during free events.

jessica

Paid a visit to the museum for the first time for a class. It was incredible and every exhibit/collection I looked at left me astounded. I am not the most art-inclined person but I can appreciate works of creativity, passion, and history. I highly recommend anyone to come see this place for themselves!!

Rajeh Malaeb

Omg this place is great.. if you're into ancient history please make sure you have a good breakfast and hydrated because there are so many things to look at that will blow your mind .. love this place

Monica Garrison

Great museum with a nice variety of permanent and special exhibits. Cafe had good food and tasty coffee. Museum grounds are lovely.

john calhoun

Great museum and it's free. The Tibetan Buddhist exibit was amazing(ticket required for this particular one)

Helen Coynor

We went to see the sand art ceremony and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the beautiful artwork and the monks who created it. I have been a member for many years and am continuely encouraged and delighted with the exhibits and variety of artwork shown everyday.

Elizabetha Benjamin

Beautiful and clean. Had an amazing time with my family. Totally worth the drive

Wykitia Anderson

Beautiful! An absolutely wonderful experience, a must see for anyone in the Richmond area.

Sharon Lopez

Virginia Museum Of Fine Arts is a beautiful museum that brings in a variety of interesting exhibitions. The Faberge' collection is just amazing. We visit the museum regularly. There always seems to be something for everyone! Highly recommended

Veronica Baker

A treat. Very beautiful, well kept. Fun for the whole family. Be prepared to spend some time, there truly is something for everyone.

Pat Odell

Cool place specialy on a hot day, the bust sculpture out side is neet when you walk around it at different angles, really cool

Tiffany Coleman

This is one of my favorite Museums in Richmond. They have great exhibits and they also host a lot of events here. The space is beautiful and the museum is a Richmond institution.

Tee Jay

Such an interesting building. Its located in a very good area. The parking is ok. It's very big so be sure to wear your walking shoes. A lot of art to see. The cafe is nice, clean and airy with an outside patio they have jazz musicians that play for free on Thursdays but you have to get there early to get a seat. The employees in the building are friendly enough. There is a kid area in the museum that I enjoyed a lot more than some other areas. There is also a very big ball room that you can rent out for special events but I think it may be a bit pricey. This is a nice place to go for free to beat the heat on a hot summer day.

ALTHEA HARISON

Beautiful and charming. Family and dog friendly. Romantic and scenic. Healthy choices for food

Jacob Woodward

This museum feels so modern! Plenty of fantastic exhibits from countries and cultures across time, plus easy access to the exhibits by either stairs or (really cool) glass elevators. Wonderful experience here.

Stephen DuChemin

A great place to learn about at history and sirens the day getting some real culture. Entry is FREE with the exception of the current exhibit. Take a good long look at the Art Deco area; amazing!

Art Espey

Great exhibits. Really enjoyed the Tibetan Buddhism exhibit as well as the Cosmology exhibit. Such a great, well organized art museum.

Alexandra Alcantara

If you are visiting on a weekend, try to catch their happy hour on Fridays! Enjoy a glass of wine before enjoying the rest of the museum before closing. Smaller crowds and still enough time to see most of the exhibits

Jacob Bratcher

Great rotating pieces and they have a student discount.

Liz Grasty

Several museums in a quad. Free except for special exhibits. Displays were spacious with good descriptions. I was impressed by the variety. Nice gift shop and restaurant was exceptional.

Brandon Allen

A very large building with many great pieces, impressive sculptures, beautiful paintings, and many many eras to explore. The only downside is that it would be nice to be able to bring sealed water because of how large the building is and how few water fountains are available

Joanne White

Loved this museum. Great displays and plenty of staff to explain and answer all your mom.

Emily Yates

I've been to almost every art gallery in DC. This one is better than all of them combined. Literally the best art museum I've ever been to. Their collection is astonishing and so diverse. Take the time to really explore or you might miss something amazing :)

Kimmy Edwards

Such a great experience with so many genres of fine art. Have been several time with small groups and large groups and always a crowd-pleaser!

David Doucet

The outdoor garden area is a perfect spot to sit and drink coffee.

Holly Kreiner

The VMFA is one of my favorite places in Richmond. You can get blissfully lost in the halls for hours and hours. It’s a great place to wander on a hot day. The special exhibits are always a treat and super affordable. The permanent exhibits offer something for everyone and because there’s so much to look at you can always find something else intriguing with each visit. The sculpture garden is also a great retreat to walk through either day or night.

Christin G

The interactive space for kids was the perfect way for my little to blow off steam after looking at all the gallerys.

sonia montalvo

So beautiful

Rebecca Bertok

An interesting place if you like art & history. Of course there are the Fabrege eggs. I liked the Japanese samurai armor suits they used to have. A cool place to get lost on an afternoon. Always something interesting.

Elizabeth O'Meara

This museum always surprises out-of-town guests that our city has such an impressive fine art museum. They keep a good rotation of the art pieces regularly. There are also restaurants and great outdoor space for families to run around. Make a morning or afternoon of it!

Sashanna Hart

This museum has really excellent permanent exhibits. The American art I found to be especially wonderful. There was a ton of variety including a Hopper that was a nice surprise. Our son loved the Greek, Roman and Egyptian wing. The one photographer they have is very interesting as well. We will definitely be going back again. There is way too much to see in one visit! And it's free, which is amazing!

Sam Farahzad

What a museum! I’m both shocked and pleasantly surprised to call the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts one of my favorite art museums I’ve ever visited. Incredibly modern, large and with beautiful exhibits, I can’t wait to visit it again. Do yourself a favor and come early so you have time to explore this brilliant museum in all its glory. Oh and the best part? It’s free! But it doesn’t matter because I would have gladly paid a regular admission fee.

Lyndrea L. McNeill

Great ambiance, wonderful music, fine arts, diverse crowd of all ages & good food! Definitely a place where your time is well spent!

Shona Malhotra

VMFA happy hour on Fridays during the summer make for some of my favorite highlights of the season! So classy and an excuse the get a little dressy and picnic out on the lawn with friends and get wine drunk on good stuff for cheap (half off the bottles from 5:30-7:30 pm)!!! Not to mention the museum itself is very well kept and the exhibits that rotate through the basement are so interesting, the last one I went to see was the Terracotta Soldiers exhibit.

Harpreet Singh

We had a tour guide to ourselves and the museum has a very diverse mix of art, displayed in a very roomy and elegant environment. Considering a membership

joey rogers

So many styles of art to view here in a spacious & beautiful building & free to the public, too! Whether you have all day to explore or just want to hit the highlights, this is a great museum to visit!

Anton Nekhai

Great museum with a large variety of things on exhibit, from ancient Roman and Egyptian art to modern art. Definitely great for what it is and since it's free it's a very good destination for students and people seeking to save money! Parking is also not super expensive and is free for vmfa members (which is ten bucks a year for students and also gets you into the paid exhibitions for free so I highly recommend it). Totally worth checking out.

Zach Vickery

A great palace to visit in Richmond. Nice and varied collection of artwork. Best past is the free entrance admission (except for the special touring exhibits). There are good options open during operating hours, and wine & beer for the afternoons and evening programs.

Carol Rae

It was a lot to see and something for everyone to enjoy! Beautiful outside the museum!

Sabine Allen

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is always a nice day out, whether I revisit the regular exhibits or enjoy one of the travelling art shows. There is always something to learn and admire. The atmosphere is inviting, staff is always friendly and helpful, everything looks well cared for. I love the open spaces, they offer restful pauses for my brain so I can better absorb what is offered. The cafe occupies a most beautiful corner of the building, the glass walls allow a view into the park with water basin, gorgeous old trees, and sculptures. Another asset is the free parking for members in the parking garage, $5 for other visitors.

Patrick Hiltz

I love the VMFA! Such good exhibits, it is a fun space in general. They have a beautiful outdoor green space that is popular with a lot of people, particularly Fan and Museum District residents. and 2 very differently themed restaurants inside. It is a great place to go, they don't like it if you use pens inside though. They will strongly advocate for pencils.

Marcus

Absolutely loved it. Such a beautiful facility, extremely clean, and nice restrooms. Wide range of exhibits with traveling exhibits coming and going. Grounds are also beautiful with lovely water features, sculptures, and landscaping. Can't wait to go back.

Felicia Smith

Highly recommend this museum if you haven't been. I came last year for a temporary exhibit and thoroughly enjoyed the permanent exhibits while waiting for my event time slot. Would definitely come back again.

judith Ellis

When she was pre-school age my granddaughter called it the “Museum of Great Art”. She was right. Living so close to a museum of this quality is a privilege and joy. Every visit we make new discoveries. Our favorite exhibit remains that if Fabrege, which has several of the famous eggs and so much more. Please visit soon.

Barrett Benton

Fabulous, wide-ranging, beautifully presented, and free. So get there already!

Emma Chou

I came here during vacation, and it is a nice musume with a nice courtyard. I recomend you visit if in the area.

Tony Jordan

Always a great visit, whether checking out the temporary exhibits or the permanent collection. Also, it's free, so it's a great place to bring kids and expose them to art without having to feel like you have to stay all day because you paid a lot to get in.

Ryan Nelson

Awesome place to hang out. Beautiful outdoor area, which houses some fun events, and the indoor part has some really nice artwork. Highly recommended

Thomas McNulty

Excellent collections and always have special exhibits worth seeing. The current Tibetan Buddhist exhibit is especially worthwhile.

Meetal Shah

Great collection and a perfect stop if you’re riding around the city on a bike.

Kaylynn Knight

Best museum I have ever been too!!! It is HUGE and enthralling. There was something there for everyone. I spent 2 days there and didn't see everything. Highly recommend. Had an amazing time. Would say this is a must for any art lover in the area.

M A

Worth the drive from Newport News. Wonderful museum. Many Sargents. Gorgeous grounds. Can easily spend the entire day. Wish the cafe had better food.

Mary Anne Zinda

We had an amazing tour, enjoyed the exhibition on the Faberge Firm and the African culture especially Esther Mahlungu's art. Thank you for your dedication to African art.

Perry Ervin

I could have spent the entire day there enjoying the collections.

Ana Edwards

Alwayss a pleasure to spend time at VMFA. Awaken was compelling in explaining how Buddhism works for the individual but I couldn't help wondering how it played with the masses? Also with Impermanence being one of the essential themes, the depictions of flayed human skin and the tools of it's implementation were more than a smidge disturbing. Impermanence and oneness.

Shannon May

I've been asking the hubby to take me some of our local museums for years. Finally, my day came and to my surprise he took me to the VMFA. Despite living in Richmond we didn't know what all it had to offer. We were beyond pleased. There is something for everyone. There are artifacts from the Renaissance period which we enjoyed but the highlight for us was the Egyptian area. We are both huge Egyptian history fans and to our surprise there was an expansive area filled with art, statues and even a mummy in his coffin. Honestly I could go on about this place for days. The terracotta army was also on exhibit. The Saturday crowd was rather large so we purchased tickets for the Terracotta Army exhibit for Sunday morning. We have watched the shows on discovery and natgeo and were always fascinated by, not knowing we'd one day be standing in front of the the very artifacts we were watching. The entire experience was honestly one in a lifetime. You really must go

Dennis Drahos

Enjoyed our trip here with the kids. We especially liked the glass making.

Adrian Sewell

Huge collection with some really amazing exhibits. Update: I took my two year old daughter today for an experience and she loved it. It is never too early to begin to have an appreciation for the fine arts and her enthusiasm at seeing all of the wonderful artifacts made my heart glow. She was respectful of the galleries and kept her hands to herself throughout the entire experience, understanding the barriers. We had to check our water at the door but that was a no hassle affair with very kind museum staff on hand to pass or things off to for safe keeping.

S Bozeman

Great exhibits and pieces. Free admission. Would definitely recommend. Only issue is with staff...they huddle together and talk so loud, that it ruins the experience.

Mike Shetley

Great museum. Rotating exhibit items, so it's often different each time. I do miss certain items that leave. The outside and inside are both great. It's easily overwhelming and tough to navigate at first, but in a fun way. Great gift shop.

carol green

Fabulous Tibetan Buddhism exhibit on view now. Also extensive Asian art collection - not to be missed. Hiighly recommend this museum, especially if you can avoid I95 getting to it.

foxy da pirate

Surprisingly excellent! Free admission so I thought it might be small and unimpressive. Completely wrong. This place had beautiful art and will take you all day to see and enjoy. The sculptures outside are beautiful, the different departments of art immaculate and there is so much to see and enjoy. I bought my 11 year old and 4 year old and it wasn't crowded on a Saturday. This place is like a hidden gem in Virginia. I highly recommend and the parking is right next to the museum.

Denise Valentine

Relaxing, meeting people of varriious cultures and back grounds. It was very nice, something different to do.

Machs World

A pretty decent art museum with a large and varying collection from many periods and many places it is probably one of the best art museums in Virginia outside of the Smithsonian

Kris Petermann

While visiting the area decided to go to the museum on a rainy day. So glad I did! The had an amazing faberge exhibit and one of the largest Sterling silver and Tiffany lamps exhibits I have ever seen! The museum has something for everyone! Also, stopped in the cafeteria and had a wonderful light meal!

Thomas Cummings

One of the best places on a Thursday night take a tour listen to kool jazz nice

Cecil Shorte

Always great experience. Good jazz in cafe.

Virginia Stockwell

Live this place! It's a high quality museum with a warm welcoming staff. Excellent museum store offerings and five star cafe.

Dillon Forte

I've been here dozens of times and am a member. This is one if my favorite art museums I've been too, and I've been to many. This is a great museum for students because memberships are cheap (it's actually cheaper to buy the membership if you want to see the paid exhibit). Other than that though, the free parts of the museum are absolutely incredible. It's definitely a good activity for tourists, dates, students, and people that just live in the area.

Lila Orrock

Free museum with great grounds and a wonderful collection of art. The space is truly open for everyone. Jazz Cafe on Thursdays, Friday night events and specials at the cafe. Cool venue for private events. The Faberge collection is exceptional.

Mario Garcia

In 19 years here in America this was my first time and I love it

Shirley 'Genie' Ruiz

Amazing peices of art and lots of historical information. My childrenoved it!

S R Tinsley

My wife and I visited the VMFA for their seasonal After Hours event featuring Richmond native DJ Lonnie B. You had to purchase $45 tickets prior to the event. This particular time they actually opened up the entire museum and most of the exhibits! We spent 2 of 5 hours available experiencing all the artwork. There were also live performances by the Fillmore Duo(excellent) and Lyric Ave. Great music, good food, amazing location. I would definitely recommend VMFA After Hours for anyone who enjoys 80s-90s Hip Hop and live R & B with their art!

Elizabeth Long

Such a beautiful place inside and out. Today I did yoga in garden and then enjoyed coffee and scone in Best Cafe.

Summer Conley Payton

Great museum with fun events like Jazz nights on Thursdays seasonally.

Edwin Vaughan

We were here about two weeks ago and had a pleasant experience until we were told we couldn't see an exhibit because I had an UMBRELLA!!!??? I really wanted to see THE TREE OF LIFE EXHIBIT but I got stopped at the door and the young lady that worked there told me abruptly YOU CAN'T BRING AN UMBRELLA IN THE EXHIBIT!!!??? OMG

Jada Rojas

Very nice museum the pictures were cool some where even creepy when entering they had a very nice atmosphere outside with the basement being amazing and getting to walk through the basement was definitely the best and had a tv screen and if you turned around there was a mirror it made it absolutely look like you were in the tv at the same time

Trina Putnam

Chock full of many interesting and varied art exhibits. It's huge - we couldn't tell that from the outside. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.

Angela Shelton

Great museum. It's free admission and would take several hours to cover everything.

Cam Bam

Such amazing art and powerful pieces. Everything was full of meaning and depicted a story.

John Riddick

Absolutely amazing, good food and good people, but the icing on the cake was the band fantastic.

Celia Jones

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts only charges an admission fee for special exhibits. During our visit the special exhibit was A Tibetan Buddhist Journey Toward Enlightenment. In the exhibit lobby is a map called a Mandala that is made from sand and required 3 days to create. The extraordinary exhibit that we experienced was the Faberge and Russian Decorative Arts Collection. Don't miss this outstanding collection of 280 Faberge objects. This exhibit is considered the largest public collection outside of Russia.

Jessica García

An amazing art gallery with many exhibits. It’s so nice and the staff are very helpful. I especially enjoyed the live jazz show that they were hosting! Definitely check this place out if your in Richmond.

Masih Ullah Safi

History : The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts has its origins in a 1919 donation of 50 paintings to the Commonwealth of Virginia by Judge and prominent Virginian John Barton Payne. Payne, in collaboration with Virginia Governor John Garland Pollard and the Federal Works Projects Administration, secured federal funding to augment state funding for the museum in 1932.Eventually, a site was chosen on Richmond's Boulevard. The site was toward the corner of a contiguous six-block tract of land which was then being used as an American Civil War veterans' home, with additional services for their wives and daughters (the state having earlier acquired title in exchange for helping to subsidize the operations).

Mac A

I had a great time here! I thought the variety of art that they presented was very admirable. There were seriously so many exhibits, and they were all pretty captivating to look at. My favorite exhibit by far was the Faberge exhibit. Not only were there cool eggs, the other work and history of Faberge was on display. They have free coat checks here so definitely take advantage of that. Since the admission is free a lot of the time, I definitely want to go back when I’m in the area again.

Nowetah Arthur

Love the Louis Comfort Tiffany display, the Punch bowl exquisite. Must see in Richmond

Bradley Johnson

Very nice and clean. Peaceful, as well. People there are so so nice and friendly.

Katie Poterala

I have been here several times and am always impressed. They have a beautiful location with great exhibitions. I recently saw a fantastic collection of English silver and Faberge that was extensive and amazing to see in person. The museum has a great outdoor seating area and hosts evening events that draw a large crowd. Thursday and Friday nights are very busy.

J L

The VMFA is a wonderful art museum. It's never crowded, free admission, extremely pleasant, and well laid out. The static collection is varied and full of quality objects. The seasonal exhibits are always top notch and focused. Yet one more way that Richmond punches above its weight in comparable sized cities.

Kristy Inus

Free admission. Anyone who loved Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, Va would enjoy this too. Huge section and would take a good couple of hours at least to go around all the galleries of different sections. The gift/souvenir shop is also amazing and offers various items. Parking is a bit confusing, also further away families with children might consider dropping them off first but it is not really that bad.

Gil Henry

Extensive and varied collections. Enjoyed the outdoor sculptures and water features.

Melissa Sullivan

Definitely worth a visit! Amazing art, beautifully set up, and also free! The inside and outside of this place are peaceful, spacious, and a great place to relax while seeing many different mediums of art. Also have a children's creation area on the 1st floor. We always enjoy our visit!

Lamont Berkeley

Easily one of the best museums on the East Coast. Highly recommended!

Steffon Cumberbatch

This is a wonderful art museum with lots of variety and free admission is a huge plus. There is enough art on exhibit here to spend the entire day here and still not really get to see everything. On a nice day the outdoor area is a really nice place to relax, take in the art, or maybe take in a good book.

Han Chen

Lots of fantastic artwork!!! From Andy Whorl’s Triple Elvis to ancient Indian arts. And it’s free except for special exhibitions. Also, the staff was very friendly and helpful!

Frankie Price

Very good Jaz Band. And audience were some great dancers

Gabbi N.

It was a beautiful gallery and definitely could get lost inside. Amazing art, relaxing atmosphere.

Paul Ackman

Everybody loves VMFA. Free admission (some special exhibits cost extra) 365 days a year. Good food in the cafe' and restaurant at reasonable prices. Lots of special events, especially Thursday and Friday nights. Friday night happy hour is super popular. Comfy nooks for sitting. A comprehensive collection of practically everything, with exceptional galleries for Faberge', East Asian, and decorative art.

Jeffery Lowe

Lovely outdoor area with lots of chairs and shady spots. Perfect place to walk to with you lunch and enjoy the weather. You can also bring a picnic blanket and hang out on the greens!

Ashley M

What a relaxing slice of the city. They offered a wide variety of art and beautiful outdoor spaces. I found the staff notably helpful and loved the architecture of the building. Worth a visit

key jay

Went for the fri eve wine event. Very nice, good wine, atmosphere/ambience, very relaxing. Nice kickoff to night out

Hitesh Nagpal

Detailed Meuseum for Art students and Explorers. Got multiple sections and will need 3 to 4 hours to explore.

Veronica Williams

I was lucky enough to attend the films about my hero, Arthur Ashe. I thank the museum for its contributions to thus effort. VMFA has some of the rarest pieces in the world. The statue of Caligula; there are only 3 left in the world, resides at VFMA. It memberships are super reasonable. They have both free and paid exhibits. Go. It is worth it!

Ben Dalling

This museum features some really extraordinary works of modern art that really stood out to me personally.

Gareken

Incredible art of many different types. Easily one of the best curated museums I have visited.

Steven Jones

A place to hang out with friends and family. Beautiful!!! What museums should strive to be.

Deborah Crowe

We loved it. The exhibits are beautiful. Free admission to almost everything. Easy to find. A great lawn. Delicious food in Amuse.

RoyaleeCrafted

This museum is free to the public. So if you are looking for an inexpensive venture in this area, this is the place to go. I ended up buying a membership so I can partake in some of the exhibits that do require a fee, but all is understood. It is awesome and a fun time for the family. A magical journey.

Nicole Gaines

First time great experience! Art is rich in color and amazing. Oh and happy hour on Thursday and Friday. I enjoyed watching the kids ride their bikes and chatter amongst friends on the lawn.

Andrew Pfeil

Rating A+ for all ages and cultures. A very nice experience! The museum is full of very amazing and breathtaking exhibits! They are always offering new exhibits to go and see. The family days they offer are really great for kids and actually whole family fun time. Full of many friendly faces and the staff is very knowledgeable when it comes to the different exhibits. This museum is a must see in Richmond!!Bathrooms very clean and the museum is spotless.

Stephen Enders

Very nice museum. Lots of antiquities which are always fun. It's also FREE!

Francesca Iyengar

By far, one of the best museums in the US! The curated shows are brilliant, and the main collection is always mesmerizing. The venue is beautifully designed, inside and out, the staff are knowledgeable and accommodating, and even the food is terrific! A real treat for all the senses!

Jess

What a great museum! The museum is mostly free - sometimes they have special exhibits that cost money. If you are a teacher (not just k-12) you can get in free! Just bring your ID badge. What a wonderful thing for educators! There is way too much to take in in one day. I recommend spacing it out - otherwise your brain overloads. The cafe is a little pricey, but not too bad, and it's so nice to sit out on the deck next to the water.

Gosia L

Amazing museum, definitely worth visiting. Very good restaurant - try crab cakes and chocolate mousse there.

Wakas Alubaidy

I love visiting this museum every now and then. It took me days to go through all the galleries. Definitely a place to learn more and have fun with family, friends, and your loved one

Cedric McAfee Sr.

We had a very nice time. Very informative!

Krystal Sajjad

Beautiful museum. Well laid out. Beautiful and thoughtful exhibits.

Emily O'Hare

A perfect place to bring friends or enjoy an afternoon. We've enjoyed many exhibits here.

Amy Miller

So much to see here! Beautiful free museum. Great Friday happy hour.

S Newbill

A monument to the achievements of mankind. Also happy hour on Friday nights. 5 stars.

Megan

What a treat to have a place like the VMFA in Richmond. The art museum is superb and a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. While a lot of the art stays the same, I still find different things to look at each time. Plus the extra exhibits they bring in are always amazing! The food and happy hours every weekend are a great time and I also really enjoy the outdoor space. It seems that no matter what time of day, the grass and tables outside the museum are like an oasis in the middle of the city for people to gather with their kids, dogs, or just a book.

Amanda León

This is one of my favorite places in the city! The exhibits are enchanting and it's a great place to grab a cocktail and socialize.

Jacob Joseph

Fantastic collection - the furniture is worth the entrance price. Always something going on here, live bands, food, wine. Worth many visits. The special exhibits are quite good.

J S

Well worth the time. The house collections are superb and their rotation of exhibits is well done. They have some interesting colloquial displays of Americana such as livestock and horses, hunting and racing. Not my taste, but some will find it intriguing. The furniture and jewelry are top notch. For a city of this size, you will get a taste of the level of financial aristocracy residing here, by spending at least one day ambling through the halls. This is no musty gallery. Newly designed, the museum is first class.
