Tires changed over for the season quickly, 3lbs low each- an easy fix. Girls at front were less than professional.

OUTSTANDING! Walked thru the door @ 2pm this afternoon, inquired about 4x new winter tires for my Expedition, was given pro/cons of each brand, bought 4x tires, installed on the spot, military discount. That level of service will gain you repeat business and GREAT word of mouth. Bravo guys! ~ C. Wood, Eagle River

I have always had great service at the store in Eagle River. I've given a good review before for their customer service. Yesterday I left their store and had a tire issue, neither they or I knew about. When I returned to the store two days later regarding the issue, I already knew I was going to do another review, just didn't know good or bad yet. After leaving the store, they had addressed the issue after we had discussed it, and handled it as I would of hoped. Because of this kind of service, I will continue to use Alaska Tire for both of our vehicles. Great job.

Great, fast service! Scheduled an appointment to buy and install new Snow Tires in minutes. Showed up for appointment and got in within 5 minutes. From there it was a fast, easy process. Got in and out in just 30 minutes! As a new driver and car owner, I can say the staff was very friendly and helpful!

The best place in Eagle river to get your tires done.

Andrea Kincade

I appreciate that they have appointments. The only real issue I have is showing up early and leaving rather late.

Daniel Moseley

Quick service, by appointment only during the busy season.

In and out really quick for my tire change over

Steve Frost

Edit: I had a bad experience once, detailed below, but have had much more successful, non-eventful, experiences since. ------------------------------------ Had an appointment around noon on a Sunday. Got there early and checked in, no issues. I hang out, wait about 30 minutes past my scheduled time before I ask what's going on. I was informed I'd have another 30 minutes to wait before I would be helped. I could understand if I had just walked in, but I had a scheduled appointment. That should have been honored before walk ins. A 45 minute outing had more than doubled to a two hour wait. I wasn't even notified that I was, in fact, still on the list or that they weren't expecting to meet my scheduled time. No apologies either. Just some stone cold, expressionless, "30 more minutes". Incredibly frustrated with this place's ability to manage customers expectations and their 'scheduling'.

I needed a tire repair because of a nail in my tire, which was losing air and low. The gentleman I spoke with on the phone was nice enough to squeeze me in for the repair during a very busy time. After the repair and once the technician got to the front desk after working on my tire he kept insisting that my sensors in the front were out. They were perfectly fine and working before I went into the shop, not to mention the repair was needed on a rear tire so I have no idea why he was messing with the front sensors. After I drove off the lot and checked my front and rear tires pressure, the sensors were reading fine. I did find out that he overfilled my tires by a lot. The next morning however my sensors in the front stopped working. On the advice of a family mechanic I decided not to go back there to fix the sensors and I went to my dealer because I did not trust this shop or it’s technicians. I am not sure what the technician did to my front sensors but it felt like a scam to get me back into pay for something I didn’t need. Other than that my tire seems to be holding up, but a $30 repair ended up costing me more because of whatever they did to mess with my sensors or because the technician was not properly trained.

I had an appointment for a tire change over. The prices were reasonable but the best part was the toy table for my 3yo son to play with in the waiting area. They even offered him a fruit snack when we walked in. A+ for customer service!

I have been a loyal customer for nearly 20 years. I have only one complaint. Last month I took in a tire to be patched and the counter person told me that it was not repairable. I took it to an auto repair shop and it was repaired in less than an hour.

Read before you Visit! Alaska Tire Center, is it buy new tires or take a hike? Thats what its felt like since Johnsons Tire went out of Business. The Eagle River Branch has given our family rather poor service with excuses to buy tires in stock followed by outright lies. So starting with today I went in for a tire change-over & plug/patch a small screw that got stuck in the tread. #1 They wouldn’t patch or plug a screw that stuck in my tire tread because (& I quote), “They couldn’t Guarantee it”, & “Thats not Fixable”? I don’t know which answer was more ridiculous for a tire shop. Especially when 3 guys are standing outside doing nothing! I’ve never had a guarantee on a patch or plug anyhow, but to lie and say they cant fix it is rude. I’ve had 90% of plugs/patches last longer than most tires life-cycle. Its OK, Midas right next door handled (patched the tire) just fine. #2 They Refused to replace my summer tires with the Winter Tires that the dealership gave me when I bought my vehicle as a “bonus” (used on the Audi last winter), because they were size 255/50R19 VS. 255/55R19. If you know tires, you know this is ridiculous! For those who don’t, the tires are the exact same wheel size & width size, and the diameter is 1” in difference. So negligible and yet insulting, Its OK, Midas did it with no issues right next door (again), You see where I’m going here now... #3 They had 255/55R19 winter tires in stock that they wanted to sell me, but no studs, & I wanted studs), yet I was told they had NO WAY of special ordering, or obtaining 255/55R19 Studded Tires, they could get the 255/50R19 Tires (Like the set I had in my Audi Q7 I brought), but no way to get studded tires in my vehicles size? I even offered to wait a month if it took that long for them to make a special order... Nope. Apparently they make studded tires for cars, trucks, and SUVs both smaller and larger, but not my size, in ANY brand? I asked if they could put Studs in the other snow tires like the Blizzak’s, (they had in stock), Nope! I was told, “The tires are too soft to stud”? My 1st call to Muffler City & they said they could, would, and have done it. Too soft to stud, yet the same brand tire with same stats comes studded or stud-less. So in the end, Midas took care of everything.. Past experience when buying new tires for my Chrysler 300. Not 5-star! Its a tire shop; they did an ok job putting new tires on, but one wheel wasn’t balanced past 60mph and caused shaking. Plus when I went to pick-up my Chrysler 300, they “forgot”, I wanted all but the flat tire back, So I had to drive it back around, let them bag the tires and load them. Lastly, When I got home I checked the tire pressures due to the shaking and 3 of the 4 tires were under inflated by 6-11psi & were warm! I would have turned around to get it all fixed, but I let it sit a month then took it and traded the car in. So everything I’ve said is exactly what Ive been told by their staff and Dealt with personally. You judge for yourself if you want to use this business. Maybe losing x1 customer doesn’t matter to them, plus everyone I tell about this business? However, just me buying x2 sets of run-flat tires every 3-4 years, and x2 vehicles getting 4 change-overs a year adds up over the rest of my life. Johnsons got 15+ years of my money for treating me honestly & with respect. It sure irks me that they refused to put any tires on my vehicle that were not stock size? I guess no 4x4’s better visit this shop, because they will not install tires that dont match the stock tire size on your door vin sticker. Yes the guy checked my door VIN sticker and refused to put the tires that were used on the SUV last winter. The Tires The Dealership sold to the original owner and gave to me (as a bonus) when I bought the vehicle.

David Murphy

Great selection but their customer service sets them apart.

These guys have astounded me every time I've had to visit. I asked if they had punch cards for frequent fliers (really bad luck with nails on the road) and they said, 'Actually your repair is free since you got the tires from us. Also rotations and more).' Quick, accommodating service, and very reasonable cost.

Sinaed Graves

Refused to put my husbands tires on because one sensor was about to go out and then the next day when I went for my appointment they with a smile on her face told me they sold my tires to someone else. I asked for a discount (because she said she could have the tires by this afternoon) and she said she could give me a total of $20 off.

Wil Attwood

Excellent service, free tire rotations when purchased there.

Chris W

Been here a few times. Everything is conveniently a "liability" because they want to squeeze $800 for new tires out of you. Expect to be nickle and dimed. Dont get me started on wheel sensors... Walk next door to Midas or better yet, s&p car care - they will actually help you and they have that local small business feel and use common sense. Im sure the owner will reply with bogus platitudes about caring for safety but dont believe him its garbage they just want to sell things you dont need. UPDATE in response to owner, apparently Continental Honda also "finds it okay" to install the wrong size tires because thats who put them on my Honda originally. I had no problem at a competing local shop that day putting them on btw. Two other E.R. shops also stated in regards to AK tire: "they just want to sell you new tires". I have been nickle and dimed (or attempted such) at this location before (I wont bother typing up another AK tire story...) and while I understand that you find this an appropriate and effective business model, it causes your shop to lack that "friendly trustworthy local mechanic" feel that many people including myself look for. Now, having said all this, I would like to add that the desk workers and mechanics here have generally been polite, professional, and friendly. For this reason im upping my rating to 2 stars. Customers just get so tired of hearing businesses say they wont help you for "fear of liability" over what seems like nearly everything.

Sandie Gilliland

I gave a 1star rating not because of poor quality work, but because of one of the worst customer service experience I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing. I have used Alaska Tire Service before and even recommended them to several people until recently when I had two vehicles to do a mount and balance and summer/winter tire swap on. I always swap my summer winter tires myself, but since I needed to have tires mounted and balanced for two vehicles, I called Alaska Tire Service to make an apt. The associate tells me that there will be no bolt up charge with the mount and balance package. Great! I exclaim, I'll let you do it all then. One vehicle is a truck I use for business and the other is a personal vehicle, so naturally I want to keep things septate on the invoices. I check in at the front desk and the guys in the back do a stand up job on my tires. All goes well until I walk up front to pay the bill... I am charged two mount/balance fees for the personal vehicle and a bolt up charge for the business one. I explain that this is billed incorrectly and politely ask them to change it. No can do I am told. I explain a different way why this is billed incorrectly and again politely ask them to correct it. I am told the that is not possible and am then handed off to a co-worker and told "She can change it if she wants to." Naturally coworker #2 doesn't want to change it (it takes a little bit of time and effort) and says I am bring charged $40 for a bolt up for the business vehicle and two mount/balance charges for the personal vehicle since the work has already been done. Now the only reason I had them mount/balance AND bolt up the tires was because I was told there was no extra charge for bolting up. Now I was charged for the bolt up and I payed it. The associate who booked me said there was no charge, and the associate at checkout charges me. Sure it happens, but I would have done the work myself like I usually do if I had been informed correctly and no effort was made by Alaska Tire Service to resolve the issue. The invoices being billed incorrectly was completely resolveable with just some effort and at no cost to the company, yet no effort was mad to do so. Update: After reviewing Alaska tire service on Google, I got a personal call from AK tire service saying that they would be more than willing to redo the invoices. That was appreciated and helpful, but why did I take a poor review on Google to get it done? I've given them a 3 star rating now because someone took the time to notice the problem and call me personally to help sorry it out.

I had a pretty big tire issue with my motorhome, they were super helpful, fantastic service and was willing to go out of their way to make sure I was taken care of. To top it off, they had fantastic prices of the new tires they sold me.

Nancy Harpel

Awesome as always!

I needed my winter tires switched for summer tires. They told me they could not do it because the summer tires did not have Tire Pressure Sensors (TPS). They tried to sell me 4 new senors. Good thing they were not in stock. I couldn't wait for them to order them. I took it to another tire shop and they showed me that the TPS were installed.

I called around to find a set of used rims for my car when these guys had the cheapest deal.. I was doing a brake job on the car at home so I just had them mount the tires I had from last year on the used wheels.. I got home (two hours out of town) to find the rims didn’t even fit my car.. when I called they told me all they have now were the new ones for double the price.. not happy they called back and said it will work out for the original price and actually have the used ones still.. now I’ve been sitting here for an hour and they still haven’t started even though I had an appointment! I would not recommend this company especially since there are so many other places to choose from within a $20 difference.. (they even tried to charge me again for the remounting)

Alex Medina

Great service and good customer care. I was checked in and out with new tires on my truck in less than an hours time. Will come back for future tire services.

A+ service. Prices fair.

I like this place but the ice in front of there service bays needs to be addressed. Almost positive it contributed to my flat tire when we went in for a different slow leak on a different tire. Customer service is good. And speed is nice. The ice is my only complaint.

Tired of the excuses for not being able to help and very rude desk people. Not all of us grew up in alaska. So after then not installing my 800 in tires my wife goes in the next morning to buy 2 new blizack and she has a appointment at 8 am this morning and they sold her tires out from under her. I'm so done never coming here again. You shouldn't either

Quick service easy to work with for swapping tires. Very knowledgeable also.

Awesome customer service. Have had them do all of my mounting and balancing for my wheels and tires. Recently had an issue with getting them balanced and had a slight wobble and hop in two of the tires after driving the Dalton Highway. They actually went the extra mile to fix the problem and rotated the wheel on the bead of the tire to fix the issue. Not even the dealership could get it right, but Alaska Tire Service did. Very friendly and I will always come back.

Wade Coleman

I brought my Mazda 3 in the other day, they had me drive my car into the bay, I had a low pressure in my passenger side rear tire, pretty sure there lot in the ice destroyed my front drivers side tire, it was full when I left my apartment 900 feet away, damaged sidewall, they told me that my sensor battery was dead in the tire that was originally flat before I went to there shop. Funny how I took it to the Alaska Tire Service on Dimond and they said they were all fine. Don't take your car to this place in the winter. If you do, have them drive it into there bays because they will try to swindle you for repairs caused by there terrible driveway and it can cost you alot of money.

Winter hit fast and hard and the crew at Alaska Tire was incredible. As I was getting my tires changed over the phone at the counter did not stop ringing for the 45 min I was there. Each customer was treated professionally and cordially. Even though half of the town was desperate to get snow tires on...they remained patient and helpful. Well done at the front counter ladies...I truly applaud you!!!!

Ricky Mitchell

I have given this place the benefit of the doubt on more times than once. It seems every time that I attempt to do something here whether it’s a change over, re-stud, or repair there is always a problem. I have been to this location for my last time and will not be back here. No questions asked! If i could give this location -10 stars I would.

Went to ATS in Eagle River just before 5 to have new tires put on, lady at the counter said they were unable to do because they close at 6. There was no vehicles in the shop and mechanics setting around up front. Second time this has happened. Drove to Anch to another establishment and was able to put tires on within 40 min while they had three other vehicles they were working on. Never again.

Got a set of Hankook studded winter tires plus installation for $500 this morning. Staff are friendly, laid-back, and efficient - service didn't take more than 20 minutes on my vehicle. I would recommend scheduling an appointment over the phone first though.

The front desk didn't seem very people friendly. You check in. They don't verify appt information in detail. Just your name. I bought 4 new studded winter tires and had them installed. They didn't verify any info about the tires, my car, size, or cost. They do process the jobs in & out pretty quickly which is good. The front desk definitely needs some upkeep on professionalism.
