Highly skilled tattoo artist and pleasant to collaborate with on getting my tattoo done exactly how I wanted. I will for sure be going back for another tattoo here some day.

Yesterday was my second time getting a tattoo done here. The first time I saw Lucy. I was very pleased with her work and the color in my tattoo. Yesterday I had a tattoo done by a man named Mike. His work was absolute perfection. I was pleased with the colors, his artistic style, and his pleasant and easy going demeanor. I will definitely be returning to get more work done by Mike. I've gotten tattoos done at a few different places, but this one by far is the best.

I did alot of searching and hunting for a tattoo shop that was reasonable and fairly good standing within the tattoo community. I chose American Classic out of all the shops around, and let me tell you, it was one of the best decisions I ever made. Clean shop, superior artist, and an all around great experience. Lucy was patient with me in trying to decided what I wanted to do. The end result was one of the best tattoo experiences in my life. I would recommend American Classic to anyone and everyone. I wouldn't go anywhere else!

From pulling up to the outside to walking inside and seeing real traditional Americana flash. This is the place to go. Very clean and fun atmosphere. Staff from front counter girl to Eric and Lucy Day the owners, you just can't beat it. When getting a Tattoo you should always look for a clean shop and artist portfolios which American Classic provides. Simply put it feels like your back in High school hanging out with your friends when your in this shop.

Went into the shop a few times over three weeks. Talked with the shop manager and the Male tattoo artist. He quoted me a price and told me I didn't need to schedule an appointment or anything. Second time, I went in and talked to the manager to make sure an appt didn't have to be scheduled. Verbalized my intent on returning later that week. The third time, I came in to finally get tattooed, artist said i had to have an appointment. He tried to offer me other appointment times, which didn't work seeing that I had two jobs. He later used that fact to sarcastically insult me to his coworker "she apparently works seven days a week so she can't come back on this day!" I had to come back the next day, I saw Lucy. She did a phenomenal job. I'm happy I was able to get it done by her and not Eric, he was unprofessional. Never apologized for being rude or, giving me the run around. Lucy made it worth the wait, very knowledgeable, kept my mind off the pain by talking to me the whole time. Definitely come here for your tattoo work, another one of their artists did some work for me. They always do a great job, just make sure you get all the info first.. in WRITING apparently....

I understood why she said she couldn't do the artwork (it wasn't her style, I wanted something specific and she'd rather do her own interpretation, which isn't a bad thing).. but her demeanor was as if my presence was annoying her.. very different from the welcoming receptionist.. one star because I couldn't put zero..

I've had Lucy do 2 custom pieces for me, one of them pretty involved and I have been really happy with her work. These are "tattoo" people- they have a love for their craft and they really care about their work. I strongly recommend them. Their shop is clean and nice, easy to find and professional. They are also a new small business- keep your money local and give it to a good local family that lives and works here in Newport News!

Lucy created the most amazing custom piece, that ended up becoming an upper leg sleeve. She took the time to explain what she was doing and checked up on me throughout the process. A very good experience for my first tattoo. I would 10/10 go back again.

Overall good experience. The shop is well appointed, clean, with a comfortable waiting area. I do wish I would have held my ground on the size of the piece or found a shop/artist that could do the piece a lot smaller. That is on me not the artist though. Lucy tried to make conversation and I probably came off as rude, for that I apologize. Tattoos are very private and personal to me. Despite it being larger that I wanted I still love it and am happy with it. A friend was getting their first tattoo from Eric (?)at the same time. They asked for the piece to be about 2" long and when the print out was presented to us it was closer to 3.5. When they asked what size the print out was Eric answered in a snarky tone, that he didn't know, he had not measured it. My friend held their ground and made sure the size was what was wanted despite the comments and negativity about the possible loss of detail from the artist. Again, happy with the end result. While we appreciate an honest assessment of how the final piece may be different from the reference art, the tone and manner from the artist could use an adjustment. I would go to Lucy again. My friend agreed they would be willing to have work done by her but would not use Eric again. Again, the loss of one star is for the attitude from Eric.

Have been to American Classic Tattoo 2 times now and both experiences were A+++. Staff are friendly and artists are professional. The waiting area is nice and comfortable and the privacy of the tattoo space is nice. Lucy made sure that everything was to my liking from the initial size of the original sketch to the placement and the choice of color used (she made sure to take into consideration how different ink color would play off of my skin tone). If you are looking to have a quality tattoo experience, this is your go to spot!

Lucy Day is a tattoo artist who is not only talented but incredibly genuine and very personable. She talked with me about my ideas for my tattoo and came back a week later for my appointment and was not disappointed with her rendering of my ideas. Throughout the whole time she was tattooing me we had one hell of an awesome conversation and I was so comfortable and no where nearly as nervous as I sometimes get when I'm being tattooed. The shop is the only one in Newport News and well worth looking into. The inside is very welcoming, clean, and immaculate in it's appearance. I am going back again to have another piece reworked and I can't wait. I WILL NEVER GO ANYWHERE ELSE!!!!

Got my first tattoo here and Eric was very nice and funny. I got a small detailed piece behind my ear and I loved it. It was pretty quick and not really painful. I went to some other places before checking here out and the people tended to be rude, or not want to do a tattoo behind my ear. One guy actually tried to draw up the picture I wanted and drew something totally different. But Eric did exactly what I wanted. The place was very clean. He made me feel welcomed and comfortable. All the other places I looked at made me feel out of place and uncomfortable. I am definitely going to come back here for my next tattoo. Would definitely recommend!

Lucy Day does all my big tattoo pieces and I wouldn't go to anyone else for large pieces! she and I talked back and forth a lot before my outline was done and very much helped me piece together a wonderful tattoo idea! I love each sitting I have with her, she's a great artist! American Classic Tattoo shop is the only one in newport news, but even if there were others-there would be no competition! Great place to get your first tattoo. They prefer cash as payment and have an atm located inside. Walk ins are welcome but for more complex tattoo is it better to have an appointment. My tattoo artist is Lucy and I am excited to go back for more in the next few months.

Awesome place! My friend and I had a spur of the moment decision to get tattoos and looked places up on Google. We wanted a good shop for our first tattoos. This place was nearby and had great reviews, so we called to inquire about pricing and time (closes at 8pm, we called around 5pm). Fantastic price for quality, service, cleanliness, and a Newport News tattoo parlor. Our artist was friendly, as well as all the other staff present and it was very welcoming.
