The animals that people normally think of as “pests” deserve to be treated respectfully and humanely, as wildlife. Too many “pest” companies (such as Neighborly Pest Management Inc.) use inhumane methods and care nothing about the animals that they are excluding/removing from man-made structures. Neighborly Pest Management Inc.’s treatment of bats is especially horrific and cruel (as shown below). This company needs to take a more measured and more thoughtful approach when excluding/removing wildlife (“pests”) from human structures. Neighborly Pest Management ought to work with bat experts and other animal experts to implement humane practices, rather than trapping animals so that they starve to death and/or die from severe crowding. Please do your research. Find a company that operates humanely. (Bats are communal animals. They are essential in keeping insect populations low. And they play an important role in the ecosystem as pollinators. The images below (Macy’s, 414K Street, Sacramento, CA) show how Neighborly Pest Management treats bats, trapping them so that they die of starvation. Two of these images show bats, both on the outside and trapped on the inside of the mesh.)

I have been using Neighborly Pest Management for 5 years and would not have any other company service my home. The entire staff is friendly, and very competent. The technicians show up when they say they will, and on rare occasion when they are running behind they phone me to let me know. I am on a monthly service for my lawn, plants, and trees. My grass is currently green unlike my neighbors who have lawns that look dead during these cold winter months. My trees and plants are also extremely healthy. I wish all my neighbors would use Neighborly so everyone's yards would look great. I also like knowing I am supporting a local business putting money back in to our local community and employing local people just like me. This is a great way to give back. Doug always does a great job of inspecting our property, listening to our issues and providing solutions, and giving us tips to prevent future problems. Just today he removed 2 wasp nests above the garage that we hadn't even noticed yet! Excellent service! I called them in the morning for rodent inspection and they came out within 2 hours. Detailed inspection around the house and in the attic. Rick pointed out all access points that rodents could enter and gave me advice on what to use to prevent it. I also signed up for pest control and they came out the next day. They were prompt and Doug asked for details of what type of bugs were experiencing. He also explained what chemicals he was using. Very professional!

Knowingly excluding a colony of bats during maternity season from a local Macy’s in Sacramento is downright despicable and shameful! Hundreds if not thousands of bats (that are incredibly important to our ecosystem) are dead and/or dying as a result of Neighborly Pest Control’s thoughtless actions! All they had to do was wait a few weeks until the baby bats were old enough to fly away before excluding. UPDATE: Thank you for replying and taking measures to dismantle the exclusionary barriers until maternity season is through!

From a hygiene perspective; these dead, stinking, rotting bats are now stuck in the structure and will decay attracting mice, rats, cockroaches, maggots, and flies who will feed on the bats. This 'pest control' company has created a whole slew of incoming problems by their poor handling of bat removal. The company needs to take a more measured and more thoughtful approach when excluding/removing wildlife “pests” from human structures. Neighborly Pest Management ought to work with bat and other animal experts to implement humane practices, rather than trapping animals so that they are starved or cooked to death. Please do your research. Find a company that operates humanely. Doors that let bats escape the building but NOT re-enter would have been the appropriate solution in this instance. Bats are communal animals as you can see from the image of colony members desperatly trying to get to members trapped by the netting. They are essential in keeping insect populations (such as zika, west nile, and malaria carrying mosquitos) low. And they play an important role in the ecosystem as pollinators just like bees. The images below (Macy’s, 414K Street, Sacramento, CA) show how Neighborly Pest Management treats bats; trapping them so that the bats die of starvation, dehydration, or overheating.

We had a massive invasion of very active ants, spread across all the kitchen countertops. Andy not only found the entry point, he put down a bait container to which they were instantly attracted. He explained that when this bait is carried back to the nest it kills the whole nest. Having done so, he then cleaned all the countertops free of ants. Instead of rushing off to his next job he stayed an additional 15 minutes getting rid of stragglers, and confirming that they were not scouts from another nest. In the five days since we have not seen a single ant. I cannot imagine a person doing a better job. As a bonus is his cheerful personality and his patience with all my questions. Be happy to recommend him to any and all.

They need to reevaluate the way they handle bats. Over 300 species of fruits depend on bats for pollination. Not to mention their role in keeping insect populations under control. These creatures are valuable and need to be treated with more respect.
