What a little hidden gem! A bit off the beaten path, but well worth a detour. The lake was such a refreshing dip after a long day driving through the New Mexico heat. We had the entire lake to ourselves and a beautiful sunset to boot. Only $10 for a full hook up pull-through site, and we didn't need a reservation!!
It's a good place to go spend time with your family and friends. You can take your grill and they have tables in a shaded area. They allow pets, you just need to clean up after them. Swimming there is nice but the water isn't exactly the cleanest. You can go and pay for a paddle boat when there are people on duty. The bathrooms don't have working lights so it's a bit dark in them. Paying for parking at the lake is pretty cheap but it can get pretty crowded when it gets hot.
They need to answer phones so peopl can make reservations not nice when people drive 2 and 3 hours and no spots for RvS
This is always a great stopping point when on our way back to Lubbock. It was 102 outside when we arrived today. Great value at $5 per vehicle! Sometimes can be a bit crowded, but weren't that many folks there when we stopped on a Monday. Very refreshing oasis!
Super beautiful, but there was litter everywhere and it smelled awful
Looks great, salt lake??? No fish,??? Beautiful looking area and camping
A very nice park....great for kids!
Amazing little gem! You can swim, Mtn bike & camp here. Nice bathroom facilities with showers. Great place for a family outing
A fun inexpensive place to take ur family and just enjoy a day in the water
The experience is really good for you and your family
Nice if they took better care of it. Most things there were not accessible or closed
Great hidden place to get away
Beautiful scenery, with picnic area. It's a must go for my family when visiting Roswell.
I couldn't believe there is such a beautiful place so close to Roswell NM.... It is definitely beautiful, and worth the visit. This is a state run park that is well maintained, with very reasonable prices. If you are visiting the area, I think this is probably one of the nicest places to park your RV.
I had a great time and got some very interesting pictures.
Good if you have kids.
Nice trail. Not very long (3miles). Lots of turns, etc. Foggy morning so pics aren't the best.
Very beautiful and cun..
Ten out of ten, cant believe this place right outside of roswell. Worth the trip it was an awesome little day adventure. Cant wait to fo back camp and swim in the summertime. Bottomless fun
Really beautiful and fun to spend the day with fam!♡
Had kids birthday party there. It was a great place for the kids.
It was absolutely stunning. The drive there was in bleak sage brush areas, really flat. The lake cannot be seen until you are right on it. Made me wonder how many pioneers dying of thirst missed this place on their journey west.
Neat place to camp or visit for the day. Lea Lake is great kayaking, swimming, having fun. Bring your picnic; nothing open at this time of year. Maybe a concession stand later in the summer.
Absolutely beautiful. Great mix of geology, and wildlife, with the lakes makes for a diverse landscape. Have had an amazing time here so far. This is also a big fishing area. Which draws a bigger crowd. With bigger crowds comes a little bit more to clean up. There was lots of broken glass and scattered trash. The crowds, trash and broken glass are the only reason this state park and camping areas didn't get 5 stars.
The water is great. Has a good trail to run, bike, hike.
It's a really good place to swim with ur family
Love this place every time when I have visits I will come here with my friends and family
Beautiful place to spend a lazy day. The water at Lea Lake is clear, cool and refreshing on a hot day. There are pavilions with tables and charcoal grills right on the lake shore but get there early as they fill up quick.
Its worth the drive from Roswell. Family Fun picnic area w Restrooms. You do need to take your own Food. Plenty of seating around lake area.
A little picnic spot that we caught at the beginning of the season so it was kind of dead but was probably really great for summer fun.
Its a fun place to hang out with your family and friends
This my third New Mexico State Park driving in from the north east side of New Mexico and will stay my two weeks before moving on. I was surprised as what Roswell had to offer. The Cowboy restaurant is a must stop as the gift store at Crash with US RV park.
This is a neat park, the views are endless and beautiful. The lakes are impressive. Port-a-potties are available throughout the park. There are campsites and BBQ stations. Picnic tables and pavilions are also available. Definitely a place worth visiting if you are traveling anywhere near Roswell. If you are getting into hiking, this is a great place to start.
Beautiful sites and a nice clear lake to swim in. Very affordable family fun. Bring your swimsuit and a picnic and enjoy a quiet getaway.
My kids absolutely loved hiking about here. We found natural quartz and had a really great time.
Awesome State Park in the middle of New Mexico. Quite a few different lakes spread throughout the park, including a side-by-side Twin Lake where one side of the lake could support fish and the other side could not due to the saline content. Very very quiet park. Besides the lakes, it was also home to a bunch of Wildlife, creatures, insects and an RV park for us outdoorsy people who love to hike. Highly recommend!
First time visit, myself and a couple Michigan girls. Nibbled on the entire time in the water... we stayed giggling... enjoyable
Ambience...good campsites. Cold water in lake. Good place for families!
Fantastic place to visit for the day, water is the perfect temp for swimming. Good walking trails. All for $5.
Very cool place. I love the calcite on the ground.
Showed up during the week and had no problem finding a site. We stayed at Devil's Inkwell. Vaulted toilets, fairly clean and spacious sites with shelter, table and grill. Great place to see if you are passing by. The creation of this park is fitting for Roswell. Fun climbing, exploring and bird watching.
Worth a visit be prepared to go for a swim if you want the full experience.
Beautiful here. Doesn't matter if you are driving hiking or camping. Get outdoors and come see the beauty
Wide open spaces, and beautiful cliffs. Great camping spot. Also very affordable. Will come back in the future!
Beautiful and fun. Kids love it.
Great place for the family. Super clean and peaceful
Best place to go for a family outing.
A great view and a great place to take your family a little distance from where my brother lives but glad he brought us here it was beautiful can't beat the view you do gotta pay money to swim or fish
Bathrooms are available. Nice camp sites with shade. The lake is beautiful. Super affordable rentals for peddle boats and paddle boards. THEY DON'T TAKE CARDS! Cash only, is their only problem.
Beautiful little slice of paradise in the desert. We had a great time
Loved it! Wished we would have booked for a longer stay. The RV side is great! Clean and roomy. After the weekend on the public side was just pitiful nasty. It seemed like people didnt know what a trash can was! I felt sorry for the clean up crew the next morning. We did walk a trail. It was nice with benches and informational signs. We will go back!
The lake was warm little smelly but lots of fun
Wonderful place to check out nature, swim, hike, playground for the kids, and picnic with Family & Friends
They have really cleaned it up recently water was clear today definitely reccomend
Unchanged, except for the better, in over 30 years
Wish we could have planned it as an all dayer but we were just passing thru.. enjoyed ourselves
Great place to camp, and they have showers! The hikes are also really nice and of course the bottomless lakes are spectacular!
My family Love's this place ❤️
Good place to go and gang out with the family.
Packed with people. Fairly clean area. Good vibes and energy. Fun place to hang and enjoy life.great spot to throw a party or gathering. Enjoyed the paddle boats. Fair prices.
Stayed at Lea Lake area for our first family RV-acation and we had a great time! The park is beautiful and the lake is perfect for swimming. We learned so much about the origins of the Bottomless Lakes and about the park at the Visitors Center thanks to the very friendly volunteer. The campsites are spacious and well-maintained and come with a covered picnic area. Loved our stay here!
Very nice and clean park. It's $20.00 per night but when we were there, there was nobody monitoring for fees so our night was free.
Great state park. Loves the full hookups and the paddle boats for $10 an hour including life jackets. This has become one of our new favorite places to camp.
Had an AMAZING time!! The water was clear and beautiful!! Really enjoyed paddle and peddle boating!! Over WONDERFUL family trip ❣️
This is a super nice place for camping or just visiting for the day. The staff in this location are friendly and there's plenty of oversight from Park rangers. For camping purposes there is plenty of space in between each camper and or 10th and it gives plenty of privacy for what you want to do there's also picnic tables associated with each campsite
Very unique place. Beautiful. In the summer there is swimming, paddleboating, grilling and a beach available on the lake. There are several smaller lakes located in the craters that are really cool. Some camping is available. Two of the lakes are stocked with trout from November-March.
A must see when in the area! So beautiful! Its seriously a hidden gem. You can drive through and see all the little sinkholes and admire them but make sure to take a look at the visitor centre before you leave and sign in! These places get funding based on the number of visitors and the only way they can dovument it is if you sign in. Do your part in keeping the park around and in good shape go sign in! And look at the exhibit that displays how deep each pool is.
Loved the place, One of the best places ive been to in a long time. I loved how clear the water was and the scenery on the drive im was AWESOME. Ur able to rent paddle boats and other things. The entry fee was very reasonable.
Very impressive and knowledgeable park managers
We stopped by on our way into Roswell. It's definitely worth a visit! It's beautiful and well maintained!
Always a good time, a nice beach area, covered picnic tables and not to far from home for a late afternoon trip and a lil dip in the lake that knows no bottom...
Peaceful. Nice water. Loved the geological value. It's connected to the Caverns!! $10 for a paddle boat rental. Color is gorgeous midday.
Great place to explore an hike around the lakes! A large lake for families to swim or sit on the beach!
nice little state park outside of Roswell, looks like a good jump off spot for Carlsbad caverns and Guadalupe mountains.
Beautiful natural formations but it felt like a city park. We intended to camp here but moved on fairly quickly
Only 5 bucks for all day access. Paddle boats 10 a hour and life jackets 1 all day. Had a sectioned off beach for kiddos. Loved it family had a blast.
A great little spot that we stopped on our road trip. Unfortunately the visitor center was closed when we got here, so I didn't get too much information on the lakes. We did a quick hike to the first few lakes and then drove back to Lea Lake. There seems to be plenty of campgrounds available, a small beach for swimming in the one lake and several gas grills for BBQ'ing.
Not ideal for hiking but beautiful scenery, clear and clean lake, and more than satisfactory campsites
A true gem in an area you'd never know. A must visit if you're from or around this area. It is new mexico's first and oldest state park and a great spot to stop and camp.. climb.. bike.. walk... just go.. thank me later! You're welcome.
Loved the visitor center. Lots of historical info. January is dry season so the lakes were low., But the scenery was still great. Loved the campgrounds and trails. Saw 2 road runners and a flock of wild turkeys on one trail walk.
Great place to spend some time! The lakes, geography, hikes, and wildlife are wonderful! Inexpensive as well, $5 day pass, $10 for no hookups, $14 for electricity, $18 for electric, water, sewer. Drinking water and on sight dump station available for everyone. Camp hosts at Lea Lake (Rita and Kevin D’Elia) are some of the nicest, most friendly and helpful people you will ever meet! The only negatives were the annoying houseflies, and stickers in some spots. Watch your pup’s feet! Indoor showers are available at Lea, but they are pretty crude (hey, you’re camping! I was happy to have any showers!) However, I didn’t feel right not giving 5 stars due to all the other great aspects of this place.
Great campground... I came here with my 6 and 8 year olds and they enjoyed the park. We rented pedal boats and paddle boards as well as played on the ‘beach’ and we all really enjoyed ourselves for an overnight camping trip in our RV. No sewer hookups but a convenient dump station on our way out of the park was nice to have.
My 1st time camping. Grounds were nice. Lake is clean and cold. Showers and restrooms clean. Hot water only issue was light over showers was out. Very impressed with safety measures. WiFi excess.
Amazing place!! You must visit for yourself!!
Beautiful red cliffs and a giant lake to swim in
We came here to swim because the website said you could swim in “90 ft deep sinkholes” but when we got there you could only swim in one tiny part of the whole park. The only part you could swim in was like 2 ft deep.
It was pretty and if you love camping it is for you.
Very much enjoyed our stay @ Bottomless SP campgrounds - our electric site was spacious. The bathhouse was clean & well maintained. The hosts, Al & Mary, were extremely helpful - pointed out some great hiking trails through the wetland area - we really enjoyed visiting w/them - of course, it didn't hurt that they are also from Michigan. They keep the sites & grounds spotless. Exploring the various lakes was very interesting - found Mirror Lake to be just gorgeous & there are steps going down to the water. The sunsets are spectacular.... Dan & Chris Dubey, Upper Peninsula of Michigan
Really neat and it has little fish!
So beautiful! I enjoy going to state parks in different states because it show's how each state is beautiful in it's own way.
Cool lakes! Though they aren't technically bottomless, but definitely deep enough for a perfect swim!
There was very little water on my scenic drive, so I decided to not even stop through. If you go straight at the sign pointing left, then you can see the scenic view before you get to the campground. It’s alright... maybe it would be better in a month with more rain.
Beautiful state park lake.
Gorgeous sinkhole swimming hole with bathrooms, shelters, grills, sandy beach, cool clean slightly salty water. Silent & full of tiny fish. Absolutely wonderful state park, well worth the drive.
Awesome place to take your loved ones once their life insurance policy is approved because no joke people die out there way too often.
I would give it a five but the men's bathroom and showers was closed for plumbing repairs. Camp sites are huge and level. Lakes are beautiful. Three trails for hiking.
I love this place. Close to home for me!
Its one of the most beautiful places I have been in a long time!
Awesome little lake. $5 per car is very reasonable for the day use area.
Clean, not crowded, beautiful and peaceful.
Great place to take family for a swim .
Not a tree in sight, but most sites have power so you can run the a/c. 96 degrees at the end of September! Nice swimming area, but no one in the water.
Beautiful state park, so much hiking and walking and different sceneray, walking the wetland area or hiking up to the top of the sinkholes, or swimming in the beautiful lake they have. Really nice atmosphere, the hosts at Lea Lake were wonderful. Its difficult to get anybody in the visitor centre or a ranger for that matter. However if you need help i would head to Lea Lake and find the volunteer hosts they were happy to chat and give all the information i needed!
We were blown away by this New Mexico State Park. So interesting and beautiful. I was so intrigued I had to research the history. Great place and highly recommend.
Our first time and we enjoyed
Great place to camp, friendly camp host (second one was on duty), decent bathroom but if you want warm shower water be sure to hit the buttons a few times before stepping in! Nice price, our spot was $14 for the night...there are other spots that are more and less.
Beautiful park and very affordable camping wether tent site or rv with hookups.
Nice experience overall, could use more tables and shade areas.
This place is really great. It's beautiful. The water is cold and refreshing. The entrance fee ($5) and camping fees (tent $10) are very reasonable. Half hour rentals for paddle board ($5) and peddle boats ($10) is cheap. I did try to sleep outside with just my sleeping bag though and got attacked by mosquitoes until I had to leave in the middle of the night because I couldn't take it anymore. Bring a tent.
Nice little campground and day use area. The area is pretty. The small "bottomless lakes" are beautiful. They are just a series of sinkholes. Not much else to see here other than the lakes. There is a campground with covered picnic tables. Restrooms. RV parking nearby. I did not see an on site ranger or attendant when I came. It was a nice escape for a one night camp out. I did not venture off into the surrounding area.
A really excellent park to visit right outside Roswell. Loved arriving after hours as it gave us an opportunity to explore the area with less congestion. Lake was cool, loved the facilities but the real highlight was the view on the ridge that overlooks the lake/park. Driving along the ridge was phenomenal. Go during sunset and watch the sun set over Roswell. Spectacular.
Just okay. Campground was nice. Super quiet!!! Gravel, level pads. We got here about 5 days after a MAJOR rain that blew out campsites and main road coming in. Had to do a 40 min detour (our fault because we didn't read the alerts). Bathrooms are clean and showers are the push a button every 30 secs but water was hot. The flies were horrible!!! Maybe because there are feed lots in Dexter? Mosquitoes were bad but that is probably due to the flooding days prior as there was lots of standing water. I think this is more of a summer destination with the swimmable lake and facilities. Camp hosts were GREAT!!
This park is absolutely beautiful! My family camped here one night and it was extremely affordable and safe. Sunset and sunrise over the lake were amazing! The only issue was that all of the light bulbs were out in the bathroom, and the bathrooms were not clean after a busy summer of day of being used.
It's very picturesque for the otherwise pretty featureless area. Pleasant park, friendly staff and good camping. I just don't like screaming children and noisy campers but what can you do....?
Beautiful place to visit. Water can be a bit cold, but worth the drive for sure.
Small for lakes atleast by my Ohio perspective but awesome for being in the middle of a desert
It’s worth seeing but not if you have to travel far, I traveled 3.5 hours and it wasn’t really that glamorous after all of that. But hey it’s still water in the desert so that’s something!
Beautiful place for scenic views and a nice swimming area
Not really sure why I stopped here, I think it was on my way home from a road trip... Totally worth it though lots of small lakes to swim and play in, camping, 4x4ing, there is even a nature preserve. There is lots of parking clean restrooms and a larger lake with paddle boats and boards plus great swim area for kids.
I've ridden the "skidmark" bike trail a few times now and it is such a great semi-technical trail for mtb's. You are able to run it, walk it or bike it. There is also an 8 mile loop around the bottomless lakes that provides great scenic views. I think this is a great stop if you are traveling to see some of New Mexico and experience some of the recreation and beauty that it offers. The city should really put in an actual bike path around the lake so you don't have to ride on the road. Otherwise a great spot!
Love going there. Anytime we go through Roswell we try to stop and enjoy it. We take family members there to see it as well.
Closed closed closed. No warning until you get close to park. Website says it's open. They lied so don't waste your time.
Much needed swimming and relaxation! Pedal boats were a blast.... Yes pedals!!!!
Awesome place for the family sense Roswell dnt have anything
Staff was very informative in the visitor center. Water is very clear and cold in the swimming area.
Quiet. Peaceful. Beautiful. Cool waters in a hot desert.
Such a beautiful place! Lake is very popular and entire park is clean. Stayed 2 nights in 24' MH with 2 pets
Beautiful place to stay for a few nights... the racoons can be brats at night though haha
Very interesting place. Great views Enjoyed our visit.
Hidden treasure! Please start taking cards at the pay station! Pack a lunch, cooler, and cash ! Sit back amd relax. We loved the paddle
I was so excited to see the lake but when I pulled in I was told that everyone had to leave because a wildfire was getting close.
Love taking my kids and grandchildren!! Beautiful place and love that lifeguards are there in summer.
We camped here overnight during a cross-country tent camping trip. We really enjoyed our stay here. We chose a beautiful spot right on one of the sink-holes in a private location to ourselves. For once, the tent sites were MUCH better than the RV sites in a state park and we were grateful. This park is large and there are many spots to choose from. We didn't use the lake or hike, but it looked nice and that there was probably a lot to explore if we did. The sky is beautiful at night in this location, and we saw the biggest and brightest shooting star either one of us had ever seen. The bathroom facilities are located near each part of the camping areas on each sinkhole, and they are mostly pump-out toilets that were pretty clean. No running water however near your tent area. As other have stated, the raccoons are a bit aggressive here. We are very good at packing our food and garbage up overnight, but we had a raccoon steal our trash quite early in the evening before we could secure it. In talking with the park ranger (who was very nice--we had a 15 minute conversation), it seems that they are trying to control an aggressive raccoon population. We would definitely stay here again.
Awesome for an afternoon getaway, close enough for a day trip
My grandchildren love it!! And it has a camping and day use also has restrooms..
I was surprised by how clear and clean the water looks. We came to sight see but would definitely swim if I come through here again.
We visited in late January. The park was quiet with few visitors. The park was easy to get around. The ranger station was clean and well informative.
Fun place to go check out. Well hidden and you wouldn't expect to see that here in the flats. Nice short hikes.
Beautiful location but grounds were dirty from all the people throwing trash and spilling food
It would be nicer if the paddle boats and concession stand were open.
Great place for RVers. They do have WIFI. Swimming. Great for families
It was nice and quiet not crowded cool clear water
Nice drive out to see the lakes.
Loved that we could let the dogs take a dip in the lake. Also the lake was just steps from the campsite. Everyone was pretty quiet and pleasant.
The real gem of this place is surprisingly not the beautiful orange-red cliff-sides, or the cozy serpentine campground, or the fact that you can swim in an amazing, crystal-clear, spring-fed lake. The real gem is the people. Many times travelers go on tunnel-vision road trips where interacting with people along the way is not on the itinerary. If that's your goal, this review won't matter to you at all. But if you slow down and make time for human contact outside your own RV "safe space", you'll find that many of the guests, the supervisor of the campground, and the exceptional volunteer hosts (whose departure from here would be GREATLY felt by the management) are awesome, respectful and helpful people. So while you enjoy God's creation and dodge a few rattlesnakes and scorpions in the summertime, take some time to get to know the staff here. They definitely like what they do and treat people very well.
Really enjoyed this salt water lake.
Good place to have a family gathering.
Great little swimming hole.
It's a nice place to relax and enjoy some family-time.
Was expecting more lakes...there is really is only the one that's bottomless, that we saw. Wish we had had time to go swimming in the nice beach area.
Nice place to cool off in the summer. Good campgrounds and trails. We enjoyed our short stay here.
Great hideaway campground although it was almost full. Electric & water for $14.00 per night. Very quiet, good walking/biking trails and amazing stars at night. Campground hosts are very friendly as are the rangers.I just wish there was recycling.
The lake is really cool and refreshing. The covered picnic table privided nice shade. Make sure you lock up your food at night as there is a raccoon who knows how to open latched boxes to steal and make a mess of your food. Bathrooms were fairly clean, but there was a leaky pipe at the sinks. Close to Roswell. Pretty nice overall.
Beautiful. I plan on returning!
Interesting place to visit. It's more like a park. You can barbeque, swim, rent paddle boats. They have an interpretive center with displays
We arrived around 6:30 in the evening. As soon as we got out of our vehicle we were swarmed with mosquitoes the size of dinosaurs. They were so bad we had to lock our dogs up in the car. After we set up camp we began to make dinner. Every time we turned around there was a raccoon getting into our stuff. They were EVERYWHERE. They were under our cars, in our stuff, in every dumpster around. We camp ALOT, and have not experienced a park this bad. Oh, there are sicker burrs all over and the restroom were kinda gross. Tried finding a light for the shower and never found one. Save yourself don’t come here this time of year.
Love this place, going here every weekend because of how friendly everyone is, how inexpensive it is, and how down right fun it is to be here, absolutely love it, also I saw a turtle maybe 10 feet from me, incredible place
Fun swimming. Great floating in salt water. Cheap fun for a day with family.
