A true oasis for travelers. Super clean restrooms, nice souvenirs (and reasonably priced), and an interesting museum--that's free. Friendly, welcoming staff that even encourages you to build your self-serve soft freeze as tall as you can build it. Highly recommended.
Interesting museum of western history
Great place to visit. Fun for the family. Best place and free. AMAZING.
Amazing!!!! A must stop on your travels!!! Lots of history and lots of buildings!!! And we didn't stop at all of them!!! Thanks for letting us view this. And it's free!!!!!

This truly free tour was amazing. There were plenty of volunteer guides to add and enrich the tour. Well worth the time to visit this site!
The movie was very informative about how the town was settled. The people in the welcome center were wonderful to talk to.
Very clean restrooms. Typical gift shop. Would be a great place to take young children.
Wonderfully restored and beautifully interactive. A must stop for the area.
Visitor Center closed on Sunday but the grounds were open and very interesting exhibit.
Excellent setup, well worth a visit.
It's really pretty amazing what they have done to this place. Great place to bring kids and get a little history lesson!
A nice place to see more of the southwest history in a lot of different languages. Perhaps you must test the Icecream....
Cool historical site with dress up photo opportunities.
Very nice place with a wonderful staff!
Be sure to stop here and have a n ice cream and watch the video of the first settlers of Bluff. Amazing. This place is staffed by the nicest volunteers you will ever meet.
Kinda cool. It's free and a good spot for kids to stretch their legs on a road trip. Very nice restrooms and water. I only gave it 3 stars though because it is a bit of a mormon propaganda center. That's the cost of free I guess.
Interesting place. Very very very nice people!!! You must see de video really great You must buy something too suport this place. The cookies are great
I love learning about the Western history. I love The gift shop and fresh baked goods. There are so many outdoor things you can do here to learn how Native American's lived in the area.
It is a nice spot to visit for one hour or so. It gives a clear view of what was like living as a pioneer in America back in the 1800. Mainly self guided tour.
What an amazing place this is to visit. Free to enter you will be greeted with a warm welcome and have all the details given to you about the founding of Bluff. We saw excellently filmed recreations of the first settlers and how they endured 6months of hardship to get to the spot where the settlement would be. In the grounds were cabins filled with family items from the descendants of those settlers. Taped stories in different languages were available in each cabin. There is also an excellent gift shop. A truly wonderful wonderful place.
This place is pretty cool.
Friendly docents. Know their subject. Informative. Interesting place. Worth the stop.
Really neat. Lot of hands on displays
Very cool place with loads of UT history. Been riding by Bluff Fort for many years and decided to stop this time. Really glad we did. And, the homemade cookies are excellent!
Very cool place ..full of history .volunteers are VERY nice and helpful
cool atmosphere and gift shop. the cookies, brownies, and ice cream are THE BEST.
What a great stop!! Definitely going to hit it up next time we're passing through.
You can learn some good history here about the settling of the town of Bluff by the Mormons. The staff in the visitors center, who are decedents of the original settlers, were very helpful and informative. There is a wonderful free fort replica and nice gift shop. We enjoyed it all very much.
Wonderful visitor's center! Excellent restorations historically. This would be especially great for children. Very educational!
Hello So great place. Friendly crew. Nice historic place. Game for children. A window in time for the pionners who find this place. We love this place and never forget
Nice place to visit with fam
We loved the history and all the displays, this really helps you imagine yesteryear. The stories you hear are amazing, the one most touching is the video reenacted by a 9 year old that tell her story...its a must see for yourself.
Helpfully, knowledge staff.
The docents were very friendly and helpful. Try the homemade candy. It's wonderful. The history of the area is really interesting. Definitely worth the stop.
Great stop, very helpful folks at the visitors center, we watched a really nice video with the story of the Hole in the Rock and the Bluff village. Would definitely recommend it!
We passed by Bluff on our way to the Grand Canyon and it was one of the best stops on our trip! You get to dress up, you get to walk around and their gift shop is nice. I recommend to all my friends to stop by here if they're going to be in the area. It's honestly great!
Beautiful site to visit for free
Interesting for sure. It was great to learn about the Mormons and all they did to settle Bluff
We're very happy that we stopped at this place! We purchased a few items that were unique and very affordable, in contrast to items at other highly trafficked tourist areas we visited. The best part of this place was the outside area, which offered very rich insight into the history of the Pioneers. This was free to tour at our own leisure, and it was very well kept.
If your not in a hurry make sure you stop by this little gem!! Totally free to enter and walk around. Educate yourself on the history of the area and the different ways they lived at that time. With recordings in 5 different languages it is great for all ages! I really enjoyed the teepee and little river that runs thru the center. You can even own for gold!!! After your done with the beautiful scenery, and your done educating yourself, head in to the trinket shop with many tourist type things to purchase! The lady behind the counter was very informative of what else is in the area!!
History at its finest..
This is a very well persevered historic site to visit on your way to moumant valley. Great little gift shop and great interactive information boards at each site.
Very nice place, worth to stop here for a rest
We were just driving through Bluff when we saw this historic site. The staff were so friendly and informative. I found it incredible to find out that one of the original settlers, Samuel Wood was born in my town back in the UK!
Interesting place.
Awesome place to go and it's free they have a donation box .... which is definitely worth leaving a donation... lots of History they even have buttons you can push and they tell the story over the speaker well kept up I think we spent a couple hours here... checking out each fort and listening to the history
Great free place to stop. There is a lot of Mormon history as it is a mormon settlement.
Great place to stop for an hour or so. Free entry and very nice people on hand to welcome visitors. The short video depicting the challenges faced by the original settlers is eye opening. While acknowledging that the American Indians almost always got a bad deal, the courage and endurance of these and the others who settled the "west" should be recognized and honored.
Excellent adventure
A great place to visit. A lot of history here. A must see when you are in the neighborhood.
Free admission, completely awesome and gift shop with a wonderful variety of local crafts.
What a wonderful history gem! The docents could not be any nicer and very lovely gift shop.
Amazing little museum and the perfect pit stop when driving through town
There was a lot of very interesting things to see. The people working there were very nice and friendly.
Fabulously surreal exhibition of colonial terror but very nicely sewn goods
Staff were so friendly and knowledgeable. Was such a good stop on the long drive for my 2yr son, even stuff he could touch and play with. Dress ups to take pictures with. Free entry. Store had toys, games, ice cream and home-made baked goods. Came away very satisfied.
Amazing historic, interactive place to visit to understand some of the struggles the earlier settlers of Utah went through in a dry, rugged area of land
Visited here in the evening. There was lots of things to see! I just love places like this where you can see how people lived in old times. You could even pretend to drive a covered wagon.
So wonderful to see history like this. Great tour with short film was amazing. Tour guides were soooo nice and willing to answer questions about anything. Nice gift shop.
Interesting history Nice museum clean restrooms. Great candy and cookies.
Docents were very knowlegeable
Wonderful place to visit and learn about history and pioneers.
Very informative and gives a real picture of what it was like
Real intersting and very recommendable. Staff really nice. If You travel trough you should have a look.
The volunteers who maintain this place are really passionate. This is a great reconstitution of pioneers’ life. This is a free attraction but I guess that donations are welcome.
Great history learning place! Cool things to buy here including the best ice cream I've ever had.
A very intriguing museum. Full of informative history. Great place to visit!
Such a fun place to explore the history of Southern Utah!
Really interesting stop off. Kids enjoyed it.
Kids loved visiting this monument. Truly inspiring story of early pioneers
This place was amazing. We were driving back from Arizona and saw this place off the side of the main road. Kind of in the middle of nowhere and we weren’t expecting much but we were pleasantly surprised! Cute little forts with detailed stories about the people who lived there years and years ago. Super neat and nice to see that the families contributed the items you see. The people who work there are so nice and accommodating and welcoming. We even brought our dog. She was allowed everywhere except the gift soft.
Fascinating look back in time with very knowledgeable and friendly guides
Found this place almost by accident when driving through Bluff. Thought it was a great display of the history of the western settlers of Bluff and their story. The people were all really nice and highly recommend the ice cream!
Lots to see. Fun for kids and educational. Demonstrations. Nice shop. Donations only.
Really informative with a interesting history. Great for families. Lots of stuff for the little ones at the outdoor play area!
Very nice historic park. Free admission. Has dress up area to look like the historic pioneers. The Theater plays a movie in several languages including German and French. The store is well staffed and the volunteers are very knowledgeable. There is a wood shop that one can watch through a window. Plenty of parking
Great place to stop, the staff are all amazing! So friendly, warm, welcoming and a great sense of humour. They run a clean and interesting site which preserves a fascinating history. Keep it up and thanks for your hospitality.
Loved the history captured here.
Great experience for history buffs and very family friendly
Great place to visit.
Very clean and so fun to visit
A great place to take kids, plenty of things for them to touch and try. Lots of historical information and cool historical structures to see. Very kind and knowledgeable guides.
The people here are lovely and very willing to share their knowledge of the local area. The facility is clean and well maintained. It would be fun for children. The outdoor displays are cute and more fun than truly historical.
Lots to do, especially for small children. Very interesting historical displays. Great gift shop with low cost hand made items and treats. The volunteers make the experience fun, even in the hot summer months. Definitely worth a stop!
This is an incredible stop in the middle of nowhere. Clean bathrooms and tables for picnics. The kids loved panning for gold and being able to dress up like cowboys and cowgirls. I highly recommend stopping here. We spent more time here and had more fun than when we were at the 4 corners.
Very interesting and informative.
Totally Amazing! A must stop.to say hello to some of the most lovable people !
We had so much fun dressing up and seeing the way things used to be..great experience
A must stop to learn about history for free!
Always a great place to visit. Amazingly nice people and just a great atmosphere to learn about the pioneers and some of the challenges they faced in the local regions. Awesome place to visit.
Lots of interesting things to see from pioneer days. Info on the place and people in most languages. Funny, modern day touches (like the big screen TV in the lig meeting house). Nice store with home-made goodies and ice cream! Free, so even better!
Interactive fort with plenty for children to enjoy. Plus, many volunteers dressed as pioneers ready to educate
Great stop! Our kids loved pulling handcarts, dressing up like pioneers, and pretend lassoing cows from play horses. The couple running the place was so friendly and there was so much great history here.
Awesome place. Awesome people! Volunteers are very nice. We were also allowed to wear costumes and take pictures for free. This is a good stop!!
Love this town.. I grew up there and always come back to visit the town.
Bluff Fort gives a wonderful insight into the life of the early pioneers and settlers to the region. It shows the challenges of settler life and tells the personal stories, complete with houses, wagons, photos and other possessions. Very interesting and moving experience.
Great place to learn about history with lots of hands on activities. Dress up like a pioneer and get your picture taken in a covered wagon. Push a handcart. Tour replicas of pioneer homes. Watch a video about the pioneers arduous trek to Bluff Fort. Nice restrooms and all activities are free.
Rustic fort museum with modern amenities. Lots of art (some for sale). Local history & maps. Very helpful staff. Separate bathrooms that were will maintained. Covered picnic area. We stopped for veterans memorial in center of fort. Well worth 30-45 minutes.
Deep vibes on this place
Friendly people
Place is clean well kept. Saff is friendly and informative. Must see.
Great if you care about colonialism
This place tells a story of the original pioneers who settled this extremely tuff land long ago to establish the community.
Good stop to make along the way
we saw a sign for free tours and as we were on vacation and not in a huge hurry to get to our campground we opted to stop in. What a wealth of information about the settlers in this area. It was well worth the 20-minute movie and then lots of fun activities for the kids and fascinating history for the adults. The kids got to pan for gold or dress up in pioneer costumes and take pictures sitting in a wagon or go into a teepee and a wigwam. Then there were couple dozen log cabins that were decorated by the descendants of those who originally settled this area included we're audio stories of the people who moved and lived there. The gift shop was really fun with very affordable ice cream and unique trinkets and treats. If you're passing through it's a fun place to stop for an hour or two.
Awesome place. It wasn't on the itinerary, but it was fanatic!! Amazing story. I highly recommend going to see it if you're in the area
What a awe inspiring historical landmark. I have visited many pioneer sites across the west that contributed to shaping our great nation. None have touched me more than the saga of the Hole in the Rock Expedition. The Fort and the surrounding sites are must see!
Tranquil and beautiful place!
Fascinating historical place with amazingly nice people.
I think that the Fort is open on every day of the year - well preserved and shows the history of the settlers in Bluff. Totally worth going, but make sure that you plan for plenty of time so that you can listen to all of the stories in each of the houses that are there. Also, the video is really cool - talks about how they had to lower wagons over the cliff walls - super crazy.
Sign said open and when we arrived it was closed
We had a chance to stop by Bluff Fort. We were driving from Grand Canyon to Grand Junction, CO. The reception was very friendly, warm welcome, and very nice. They gave us an explaining information about Bluff Fort. It was a very good to know the history of this town. We were very happy to what a wonderful small town.
Good stop nice and learn adout are history
Great little place, lots of history ,the couple from Mesquite Nevada who volunteer there for a year, were very nice to myself and my group from the Netherlands, we got there in sure just as it closed on a Sunday afternoon and still were so nice, any where else that WOULDN'T OF HAPPENED !! You know how I know this ?? CUZ I'M THE BUS DRIVER WHO PULLED IN THERE AS IT WAS CLOSING !! THANK YOU !! 5 STAR STOP !!
Great but of history right here.
Old west adventure with real history.
Such a great little spot we noticed as we passed through town. I am glad we stopped, it was a great way to spend a couple of hours. Lots of great museum exhibits and informative displays. So much for the kids to enjoy, particularly exploring the cabins, wagons and gold panning. There is also a great picnic spot, sparkling clean restrooms and the gift shop sells very reasonably priced baked goods and ice cream. And the most amazing thing is that it is completely free to visit (although a visit is certainly worth a donation). The staff and community maintaining this attraction are to be commended on such a wonderful facility.
Well maintained grounds and buildings, with functioning videos and audio tours! Very informative and all staff was friendly and knowledgeable. FREE and you can walk around at your own pace. Don't miss this if you're in the area!
Amazing place, amazing history, amazing People!
Our kids could not get enough of this historic fort. This is a must do for anyone passing through the area. The staff is awesome and the history of Bluff and the pioneers is portrayed in a fun environment. They have a nice shaded area for picnic lunch and restrooms close by.
best historic museum ever! really. very authentic
Very informative enjoyed the experience
Bluff Fort is definitely worth visiting. It is a fabulous place full of history. One gets a very good feeling for the difficult pioneer times. Also on the doors to the different exhibits, there are buttons in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish that tell you the history. Mandarin will be added soon. Bluff Fort is definitely one of the best outdoor exhibits featuring Mormon pioneers settling the Southwest of Utah.
Was a fun place to visit! Nice & friendly staff Very educational
Great place. Lots of history. People there are very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. If you're in the area it's a must place to see.
Bluff Fort is awesome because you are able to pan for gold and take a look at the int and resting housing and buildings of the past
The people that run and take care of this place are just really awesome, nice, and considerate
Interesting place. Just like movie. Do not drive fast cops everywhere
Nice exhibits well laid out. Worth a stop
Fun for kids and adults. Historical site. Fee.
Very interesting learning about the early settlers of the area. Educated and informative hosts. Great for the kids. Good little stop.
Excellent! We were greeted immediately and given some history of the area along with 2 short videos concerning the pioneers and the hole in the rock trek.Wonderful cabins and authentic era decor and tools.
This was much better then i thought it would be..its a pioneer fort and its worth exploring if your ever down that way about 54 miles south of monticello ut.
Fascinating re-creation of a pioneer time gone by. Staffed by very nice volunteers. Good gift shop. It was not a planned stop but definitely was worth the time. Free admission.....and very clean restrooms.
On a road trip with two pups. After several hours in the car, were looking for a safe place to stop and walk around and just happened up on Bluff Fort. Great stop for us. Took a break, saw some interesting stuff. A thank you to the staff for their warm welcome and kindness. No cost to visit.
I am reviewing it based on their store. Didn't take time to do anything else there. Their peanut brittle, toffee and lemon zucchini cookies were really good!
Very impressive exhibit of the expedition to settle the area. With all the beautiful geology in the area, it's easy to forget the human history as well. This site helps interpret the story of the mormon pioneers and their extraordinary journey. Much more than just a video, portraits talk and relay the story. Outside, recreations of the cabins used by the settlers further tell their stories with audio. Plenty of wagons and things for kids to climb and play on. Co-op sells confections and their own soda pop. Jet the jalepeno peanut brittle. Very highly reccomend during a trip to Four Corners region, especially if you have kids.
They make thier own handicrafts and dessert items. You can dress up like a pioneer and take a picture in front of a wagon. It's a fun place for adults and children.
It is a pretty awesome place.. for a place that is free
A great place to learn some of the local history, definitely worth the stop. Make sure to see the videos in the visitor center, well done. My kids loved being able to dress up in the pioneer clothing.
Really great history of the settlers and the cabins. It does leave out some of the history of the native people; however it is worth a visit to learn about hike in the rock. They also have bathrooms, water fountains, and ice cream across the street.
A treasure to be visited. Very well maintained. Good educational tool for children and adults
Interesting site
Was pretty cool little town to check out
Very interesting recreation
Although many people consider the Church of Latter-day Saints borderline cult worshipping they have done a lot to promote the frontier and even assist in the settlement of lands acquired do the purchased of the Louisiana Purchase I found Bluff fort really intuitive and really appreciated the break from the drive
Great place to learn about the history of settlement in this area. Guides dress in period costume and are very helpful. There are things for the kiddos to do so they can run off some of that pent up travel energy. Nice little shop selling local handmade goods and foods. Stop here to learn a little bit and stretch your legs.
