You know that we do not usually stop to set tatings when they are good and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Movie Theater belongs to the category of Movie theater.
like being at home with the family. kick back and relax
an unassuming, old historical theater that offers cheap tickets and your standard movie theater fare at the concession area. the staff are extremely laid back--maybe too laid back
Old school theater with cheap first-run movies, you gotta love it. Their pizza is delicious, and the brews on tap are always excellent. Being old school, though, includes the seats, which basically means I prefer shorter movies at this theater! Special props to the staff for handling a belligerent patron when we were there.
Good movies, good pizza, terrible seats. I only see movies in theater 1.
I love the area I love the fact that it's around the corner and it's cute! But they need to remodel make it look clean and newer, either way I still love it.
Great beers, nice food, good candy options. Low prices and good viewing from every seat. The seats themselves are a little worn, and in some cases wonky, but with two screens showing the latest hot films you won't mind too much. Do skip the pint, and go for the mini pitcher of beer though.
Portland area has a lot of ni e boutique theatres. This is not the fanciest but is still pretty nice and charming. The upstairs auditorium has suprisingly good sound and almost prefer it to down stairs. Some of the seats are a bit worn though.
Excellent theater experience. Great location and value for your buck. Well worth the drive to see newly released movies over a pint of craft beer.
What’s not to love about affordable first run movies, pizza and adult beverages!
It's fun being old timers there!! Hi Jeremy and Theresa. Hope all is well with you and family.
There are plenty of nicer theaters, but St Johns Twin Cinema is cozy, down the street, and cheap, so I'll usually go here first. The upstairs auditorium is alas a pretty compromised experience though - shallow, wide, awkward seats and annoverly large projection. Suggestion to management - upstairs could be made a better viewing experience for most by projecting SMALLER. Currently, any but middle seats in the back few rows have a hard time seeing all of the screen.
Always my go-to! Able to enjoy drinks and pizza along with traditional popcorn and movie snacks. Comfortable seating, and prices are not outrageous like commercial theaters!
Fun casual theater
Great place! Only has two theaters, but for the price, it's worth it! Speaking of, go see IT: Chapter Two!!!
St. Johns Twin Cinemas are the best place in North Portland to catch a movie. First run, two screens, great staff, really good pizza to enjoy during the movie. The only negative is that the seats in the lower (bigger) cinema are showing their age, and can get uncomfortable during longer movies.
Great place to catch movies. One of the few theaters that you can see a movie opening night that hasn't sold it
A good size theater. Has areas for food and drinks to rest which is nice.
Excellent pizza and fun theater! Always enjoy going to this local place. Highly recommend!
I have been coming to the St. John's theater since I was a little girl and I love it. It's so convenient. The customer service is amazing as well!!
Great theater, still has reasonable prices. $6-$8 You can actually afford to take the family snd enjoy great popcorn and pizza . Also Has friendly staff..
Great pizza and friendly service. They do need to upgrade their seats. Not comfortable at all, sagging.
Great theater, decent pizza, great little place for seeing first run flicks without having to really leave my neighborhood. Will definitely come again.
Reasonably priced (which is hard to find nowadays), friendly staff and a vintage feel. I love bringing the family there to see new movies!
The building is beautiful. The first floor theater is old timey and gorgeous. The selection of beer and other drinks is great, the popcorn... I could go just for the popcorn. There is a bit of sound bleed between the two theaters, but nothing substantial. I love this place and the price is $8 for a ticket, which is amazing. There are even tables in the back of the main theater for food and in the middle of the upstairs theater.
Epic old school theater in the middle of at Johns. Good pizza and beer selection. If possible don't see movies in the upstairs theater if possible not the best place to watch. Still can beat the prices
It's a lovely old building. Audio system is updated. No bleed through sound from 2nd theater. The audience does get the big screen experience. A cinema in our little downtown contributes to the livability of the community. I'm not beer drinker and no pizza for me as I'm gluten free so I can't comment in the food fare. When I'm ready to see a movie this will be a place I'll consider. The +21 rule after 8pm does seem to mean you're not paying to hear children and babies in the background of your show.
Great old theater with reasonable prices, buttery popcorn.
~ Always A Pleasure To Visit Anything St John's ~ ~ The only theater I have been to in Portland that has a small town feel, reminds me of home. ~ I also love that you can buy + drink craft beer in the theater, and they have cool Hollywood stars on the sidewalk out front. I think some local legends even sign them!
Great prices for new movies. And good pizza
Pizza, Coke, beers, popcorn, candy... And it is all very affordable!!
Nice cinema but they changed their pizza some time since I have last been here... and it's not an upgrade.
Love going to the movies their. One of my favorite places to go.
Love your place, and a great price. Plus good food & drink. Only downside is some of the seats are rather uncomfortable (sorely in need of refurbishing). Still worth going to.
This was my first time coming to this theater. I went to see 'Crazy Rich Asians ' with my daughter. I like having a table by me to put our food on it. And I love the fact we can drink beer here. Price was better than I'm used to. Other than that, this was an older place and small, which I don't mind at all. It definitely works for me. I will come back again for sure!
My go-to cinema whenever I want to watch a movie (and as long as they're playing it, of course). Seating is cozy, especially if you opt for the long tables when you get pizza and beer. Ticket prices are actually pretty OK, especially if, like me, this place is within walking distance.
Great old school cinema with everything you need. Two screens, a bigger one on the ground floor and a smaller theater upstairs.
Love going to these smaller theatres where they sell booze and pizza. Some of the seats downstairs have tables. Overall a nice theatre for a good value.
This place is a gem. Affordable prices, great films, and a snack bar with nachos and beer!
Good prices. Main stream movies. Pizza. Beer. Get there early. Line for beer and popcorn can get long.
Old school neighborhood theatre. Nice staff and decent beer prices.
Fun spot for a date night
Great local community cinemas. They have 2 screenings, hardly ever busy. The best of all, you can have pizza & beer during the movies & ticket price is only $8
Corner stone of cool! A friend of the eyes...a place to go and have a slice of pie and a cold beverage of delicious proportions. It’s local as cuss and it should live forever.
Been going to this theater since I was a child and I don't plan on stopping.
This theater's employees are awesome, cheerful & friendly! Has nice architecture, easy access for alter-abled people and has it done right with the movies! Multiple movies and times! A far sight better than the standardized chain run theaters!
Since I was a kid thia place has always been good.
Beautiful theater. Comfortable seats, Great pizza and pleasant staff
Cute theater close to home. We would really really really love if y'all served vegan pizza slices, I know it would do well in St.Johns. They have good crafties too, cider and beer.
Love this place. Good people, decent seating, feels like a friend's living room. The ambiance of the place is what's so good, just an easy, laid-back vibe with the folks behind the counter bringing the real essence of awesomeness. Not fake niceness, just real character in the best possible way. The pizza is decent, beer is on the menu, the popcorn is salty, and the candy is all the standard goodness: Reese's peanut butter cups, gummies, junior mints, etc. And water with paper cups on the side, which is a really smart idea and is great for customers. This small act counters the many things I hate about your average commercial movie theater: given the high cost of everything, what a nice gesture that you can get a cup of water for free. Other drinks are also available, like Nantucket Nectars, and other brands I can't remember but they're in the drinks cooler. Good sound, big screens.
Good prices, great environment, small town st John's feel..
A great neighborhood theater. First run movies on a budget.
The theater was still the same as when I last visited back in the early '90s no reservations seating was very uncomfortable and it was not as enjoyable as when I was a youth was not any less expensive then if we went to a more modern theater this is a place my wife and I will most likely never visit again untell certne comforts are met would be a cool place to go if the seating was redone and the painting in the theater was gon over not new design but freshen up the old and more leg room for your customers
This is the friendliest and most relaxed theater I have ever visited. It is the only place I go for movies in Portland.
On most occasions I love this place, you can have a beer, but on this occasion it projector and the upstairs theater was down and I could not see the movie that I wanted to see.
What a great local theatre. St. Johns Twin Cinemas and Pub is cozy. It's my kind of movie place. The movies are affordable and the seats are comfty. I can't say anything about the food, because I didn't get any. If a movie theatre could be homey, this would be it.
Great local spot. Love watching movies at this venue.
Nice theater. Clean and friendly workers. I will return.
Love this theater. It's simple, has a great sound system and the staff are really cool people! We always look here first for movies.
Had a great time! Remind me of the old cinemas from my childhood days. The theater was cozy and the atmosphere was like a home theater. We were in the 2nd floor theater which is the smallest. The seats were close and very old with none moving armrests but comfortable none-the-les. Big Positive is the Pizza! It was Amazing
Not fancy or large-scale but prices are very reasonable and the seats and viewing angles are fine.
Good movie prices. Fyi The "smart pizza" is terrible.
Nice vintage theater. Rows with bar tables in back. They serve popcorn, pizza and beer.
Great spot. Very reasonable prices. Comfy seats and a rad older building.
It was good but it was a snake in there! I almost got bit yo!
Great place to watch a movie.
Funky retro local movie house. Adult drinks, good popcorn and steep seating.
Really fabulous smaller cheap theater. The two screening rooms give very different movie experiences. The pizza and beer are a really nice touch
Keep this place alive folks! Local business, still showing actual 35mm film on the big screen, pizza, beer, reasonable prices. This is what we're here for.
I took myself to see Aqua Man recently !! The consesions are quality and affordable, especially compared to a mega chain. This theater is a small run, neighborhood gem !! Very comfortable, and the audiece applauded at the end of the film !!
Cheapest movies theater around with great service!!!
Been coming here since I was a child. Love this old neighborhood theater. Great staff, food and drink. Current movies.
Love upper Cinema II, I miss watching movies from the balcony in most theatres of the day.
I love a good neighborhood theater, and pizza and adult beverages make this place one of my go-to's in NoPo. They've got a great sound system, though it can be a touch loud. I think they used to get their pizza from a different place than they do now. It's still pretty good, but it used to be really good. Still way better than a chain theater, though.
Good pricing on concessions compared to a first run chain, theater is aging but cute, staff is great.
Love the Twin Cinemas so much. Good pizza, good beer selection, great staff, and $6 matinees makes movie viewing a wonderful experience. Usually have a kid friendly movie and a popular one, we check here first for a movie-going trip.
love supporting this local gem
See first-run movies for less than at this well- maintained historic neighborhood theater. Also domestic and microbrews and pizza.
That sour cherry cider makes any movie enjoyable
It's often a bit warm and the audience is in motion noticably. Sound dampening needed in minor degree. Very much love this theater, I appreciate it for what it is!
Great place to catch a flick
I LOVE the St Johns Twin Cinemas. Great prices, great movies, love having delicious beer and pizza while watching a flick! Locally owned and operated and all the folks who work there are great people. OH! And they open new blockbuster films THE DAY BEFORE EVERYONE ELSE!
Cozy and quaint St.John neighborhood spot. Very inexpensive, uncrowded, and they show the newest and/or popular movie releases. Within walking distance to eateries and bars. A great date night experience!!
Comfy, cheap and local. The only place I ever want to go see a movie ever again! I love that they turned the balcony into an enclosed second theatre. Steep raked seating upstairs so you're super close. Recent renovations really improved the sound quality too.
Old fashioned movie theater. I really enjoy the vibe here. They sold popcorn, pizza, soda, and beer. The bathroom was pretty small but the theater was a nice size.
Simply can't beat this place. Crazy affordable matinee or evening first run movies. Fantastic classic theater. Worth traveling to St. Johns just to catch a flick here. "Small" pitchers of beer available. Tasty popcorn. I like the sweet crust on the pizza they cook fresh on site. Movie + beer + popcorn still cheaper than a national chain.
Can't wait to go back!
Great old fashion style. Cozy, comfortable
The cutest theater you could ask for! Tasty food, cheap shows--if only it didn't shut down to minors after eight pm... St. John's is lucky to have it around. The Hot Lips soda is far superior to the fountain drinks. Candy prices aren't extortionate, but the pizza's the good deal. Sometimes the kiddos get obnoxious, but it's sort of fun to hear everyone around you reacting to a kitschy trailer or something.
Movie was great, the pizza crust was way to salty .
Historic a la St. John's. Cosy, good snacks, cider, beer, wine....current showings. Supporting our local merchants.
I like it here! It's not supported on 'movie pass' and I come here anyway, that's how much I like it. But I wish they still had local radio station KMHD playing before previews. And I wish there was convenient parking. Most of the whole block is not movie friendly, with parking time limits less than 2 hours ...I don't know who makes those decisions but. ...why? And they don't want you to park in any of the parking lots nearby, either! So you have to go early to try to find a parking spot before the movie starts. Irksome.
Such a great place for movies, good pizza, and beer. Very reasonably priced. It's my favorite theater!
Love coming here with the family
Such a wonderful and cozy theater! The staff is friendly, the space is so welcoming. As a shorter person the seats felt a little low for me, but it didn't bother me very much at all. This is one of my favorite spaces in North Portland for sure.
I love this place! Historical!
Love this place. Great prices. Good sound system ( better than some multiplexes). And reasonably priced snacks including Pizza beer wine and cider.
Nice seats and they serve beer. Get there early or you will not have much of a choice. Excellent ticket price.
Great prices, comfy seats and nice screens!!!
Great. 3.50 for a large drink is fantastic.
Went to see, A Star is Born, great movie. The theater is older and not crowded, yet beer and several flavors of pizza usually available and seats with tables for your goodies.
In a prior life this little nostalgic theatre was for live performances with a stage and orchastra pit. It is now converted into two movie theater spaces (main floor - larger and mezzanine - smaller). In addition to the usual soft drinks, popcorn, and candy, folks can enjoy pizza, craft brew and wine.
The price is great for first run movies. Its a older theatre so dont expect it to be like a regal cinema. But the do serve beer and pizza as well as the standard movie snacks
Great prices & excellent pizza!
Always good movies the prices are right pizza food beer fun
Great theatre with very nice retro feel. Also extremely cheap!
I love this theater. It’s lovely, affordable and well stocked with food, snacks, and refreshing adult beverages. if that’s your thing. They play all the latest movies and I feel completely safe letting my 12 year old go there with a friend. Two theaters. One big, one small. Genuinely friendly staff. It’s a gem. Support them! I always see someone I know there. They are such an anchor for this neighborhood. So happy to have St Johns Twin Cinema in our Main Street.
Cool vintage theater that serves beer and food.
Great theater- intimate started life as a vaudeville theater in the 1920s!!
I love neighborhood movie theaters.
We had a wonderful time. Love the quaint- ness
St. John's gem. Cool old movie theater showing first run movies at a reasonable price. They serve pizza and beer and you can bring coffee drinks in from Affogato next door. Awesome, friendly staff. Don't forget to tip!
Beer, pizza, popcorn, soda, candy- all you could want. Nice ambiance theaters that are cool but not sub-zero. Love it for the family.
Tiny double cinema in St Johns. Has the usual snack offerings you would expect from a small independent cinema, including beer and pizza. Prices are decent. Most of their showings are first run, tends to have at least one kids feature. For more artsy showings, go to Cinema 21 or Hollywood. Feels like a neighborhood theater, which is largely a thing of the past. My one gripe is that I wish they had cheap canned beer, like Rainer.
Historic independent theatre with just two screens. Upstairs is the much smaller theatre. Downstairs theatre also has more seating available with a table. Parking lot "for Oregon plates only" and inexpensive ticket prices. Candy, soda, popcorn, pizza, beer, juice, water, and wine are able to be purchased for a decent price.
A great niche theatre. The seats are comfy, the screen is large, and the sound is excellent. This theatre provides a homey vibe to it
Love this theater, but the chairs need replaced.
I love this place for the local character. But the seats are small and not comportable.
It was my first theater, went there with my mom,was her first theater as well, and my children and now it's my grandson's as well. A memory still accessible. A lovely family tradition. It's charming has lots of personality and now it's got beer and pizza.sounds like maybe a bad date but trust me. It could be a great time, and just maybe a good memory .
Good pizza, good beer, perfect old theater.
First run movies, excellent price point.
This is a gem of a theater in downtown St. Johns. I've been going here as long as I can remember. Be sure to order up some popcorn and a plastic pitcher of draft beer to properly enjoy your movie. Upstairs theater is a little small, but theaters are clean and comfy.
Its a nice theater. Needs a little remodel but a great place for cheap movie tickets.
Hello, It was my first time in this area. I had a very hungry child and was looking for food for her. I walked by a pizza window. I did not realize it was attached to this theater. When I did, I went to the theater door and saw an employee inside the ticket booth. I tapped on the window to ask if it would be possible to purchase a slice without seeing a movie. The staff member was sitting at her workstation, wearing earbuds with her back to the window. She did not acknowledge me but used her finger to point to a sign that stated that the theater would open at 1.pm. I believe it was about 15 minutes till 1pm. I was shocked by the rudeness and could not understand why an employee at their workstation would refuse to speak to a possible customer. I tapped again and got the finger again. I tapped a third time and she took off her earbuds, made a face and opened the window. I asked about the pizza and she answered. I then asked her for her name (Cornelia) and I asked her why she could not have answered me the first time I tapped. She stated she was not on duty until the theater opened. I do not know of any workplace where staff is not paid to come in before opening to set up. I also do not know of any workplace where employees sit at their workstation, off the clock, in the public eye. I certainly have never been ignored by any theater employee while they were sitting at the ticket booth. I told her that I thought her behavior had been ignorant and that I would speak to the manager. She stated she did not have to take this from me and that the manager would agree. This person represents the theater when on the premises, clocked in, or not. It is her responsibility to treat customers with respect and courtesy. I found her behavior significantly unprofessional and rude, and as a result, I will not buy pizza or see movies at this theater. I also hope if the manager is in the habit of allowing his staff to sit in the ticket booth, off the clock, and disrespect possible customers, he changes the sign on the ticket booth so his off the clock staff won't be disturbed by possible customers.
Best place to see a movie in North Portland/ St. John's area. Great pizza.
Awesome
Five stars because popcorn on the floor from past showings is part of an authentic movie-going experience! Catch a flick and improve your gut health in the same sitting -- they have killer kombucha plus popcorn with nutritional yeast. Yum.
Great prices and concessions. Seats aren't super duper comfy. But hey, great ticket prices.
Fun local movie theatre. You can drink and eat as you watch. Relaxed crowd and friendly staff. If you live in and around north Portland, you must go at least once!
This theater is nearly perfect. The only reason I'm giving it a one star review is because they have nothing to help my hearing impaired mother watch movies. Other theaters we've gone to have had a small device that allowed her to read captions, but this one doesn't have anything like that. This theater is fantastic for people who aren't hearing impaired, but you'll have to find your own solution or find another theater if you have impaired hearing.
This theater reminds me of the small town I grew up in. It's sorta small with two screens, but the workers there are very friendly and the food/beer selection is delicious! My only complaint is the current state of the seating. Most of the seats are old and offer little support for one's back during a 2-3 hour movie. My suggestion is to go early to ensure you find one of the non-broken seats, trust me, it's worth it!
I like this cinema because it's been around a long time, they play new movies on the cheap, but the seats are all kinds of ripped up and are extremely uncomfortable.
nice relaxing neighborhood friendly place to view box office favorites on the big screen. serve beer and food while dining.
Love that they actually play NEW Movies right as they are Released & for only $6 a ticket!! Awesome 2 large soda's & large popcorn combo for only $12 also.. Seats aren't that great BUT for less than HALF the price as big theatres it's DEFINITELY worth it!!! Only con's: I understand it's the very beginning of Winter but the heat was on FULL BLAST for over half of the movie, all three of us were SWEATING! Even my husband that is ALWAYS Cold asked if the theatre doubled as a Sauna haha :P.. And the seats.. Take some ibuprofen with you ;)
Movie was really good prices went up on food and drink 12.50 combo(2 drinks n popcorn)
Then my friend for over 40 remind me of my childhood and easy on the wallet as well
A great, small theater. Comfy seats, and even though it isn't stadium seating, it is hard to have a bad view of the screen. If you're looking to see a movie while eating delicious pizza while drinking a beer, look no further.
is it a kid friendly a theater with a past of one of our great president getting assassinated,i'm upset that it was shut down even after.
Go to another theater. If you read other reviews, you'll repeatedly see "not busy". There's a reason for that. This is the theater everyone goes to who gets kicked out of real theaters with security. If you like people talking, texting, singing along with songs in movies, etc., this is your theater. Don't take my word for it though. Go see a blockbuster movie opening weekend. It might be half full because every audience has 10 Judd Nelsons from The Breakfast Club.
I love this place this is my go to movie theater where else can you go to the movies for 6 bucks get a piece of pizza and a beer and watch the most current first-run movies in historic movie theater recommended highly to anyone that likes to go and just be comfortable in a cheap movie If you're looking for more that Living Room Theater feeling this is not the place for you but if you're looking for a place to go have a nice time and enjoy film with friends this is a wonderful place to go
Love the popcorn here! Widh they played more of the kids movies
Afordable entertainment clean theater, newer movies. Well worth it to come sit in history.
Great prices. CRAPPY PIZZA!! Used to have better pizza. We used to go to this theater all the time, but since they changed their pizza, the kids just don't like going here anymore. They still have great ticket prices for first run movies and excellent popcorn and drink prices.
Their pizza was a little burnt. Nothing ever goes wrong with popcorn and soda at a movie tho. Looks like they hook it up with butter flavor.
Have not been there in 30years
An iconic theater in North Portland. Still very reasonably priced, especially for matinees (pre 5 or 6PM) on weekends. Freshly made popcorn with (I think) real butter, good craft brews, pizza, etc. It has 2x fun, small theaters where you're right in the action and most seats are great.
Nice theatre except for the guy who made noise during our movie and the cops who came to pull him out.
Love the prices
Beautiful old neighborhood theater with first run movies and great prices!
Great food and friendly employees. Only problem was parking. But everything else was fantastic
Great service but movie chairs are uncomfortable
Cheap tickets and great popcorn.
Great local cinema. Comfortable seats, beer and pizza available. Good deal - Only $6 per person before 6pm.
Amazing pizza....the crust is a real stand out. Good beer. Comfortable seats. Great price. Will continue to go again and again!
One of our favorites. There is no greater theater in the known universe.
Awesome
Pretty pricey but still better than most
Kinda run down.. But have beer, and great pizza. Prices good also
