This Movie Theater is classified in the category of Movie theater.
Love $5 Tuesdays! Also love the downtown location.
Small old movie theater but it doesn't pretend to be anything it's not. Food the job of playing the movie and selling snacks just fine.
This theater doesn't have the largest screens, but it's location and atmosphere make up for that! The staff are pleasant, and tickets are only $5 on Tuesdays!
Great local venue. Nice screens comfortable chairs popcorn consistently good, and super friendly staff!
Great downtown movie house! 6 screens, offering a mix of major studio releases and smaller, independent films. Friendly staff serving up the usual movie time treats, popcorn, candy, sodas. Regular restrooms are up a flight of stairs, but a wheelchair accessible restroom is available in the lobby. Also available are various devices to assist hearing impaired individuals. Evening ticket prices are $10 adults, $7 children and seniors; All matinee shows before 6 pm are $7, and on Bargain Tuesday, all shows are a measly, very affordable $5! There is a parking garage right next to the theater. This cinema is adjacent to the Old Port section of Portland, a multi-block area teeming with specialty stores, unique restaurants (some are nationally recognized), popular clubs and bars, and other attractions.
Clean. Big screens. Nice folks
Great place.
Great small in-town cinema.
We loved it and we will be back. Takes you back in time.
Best date place and rainy afternoon local haunt. Love it for what it is - downtown, local, and charming in its vintage qualities.
I've been going to this theater for almost 19 years, since I first moved to Maine; it's far different than back then, when they played older movies, and cost $1.00/$1.50 to see a movie. I went this time, spontaneously. I was waiting for a doctor's appointment that I was accidentally early too, having mixed up another appointment with another. Fortunately, they had a 12:30pm showing of the Black Panther, and it ended with time to walk to my appointment. I paid $7 to see a matinee, which seemed high. I didn't order any concessions, as they were ridiculously expensive; I know that is where theaters make their profits, but $4 for a very small drink, was crazy. Fortunately, they were nice and let me keep my Starbucks coffee I'd just purchased. At first, I was the only patron. Shortly after the film started, a few teens, maybe early 20s, came in, and were loud talking to each other, and were using their cellphone flashlights to find seats; again, I was the only one there, and was sitting back row center. They decided to sit back row left, but were still loudly talking to each other, using their cellphones, and rustling through backpacks. It was absolutely obnoxious, but I was still able to focus on the movie, and enjoy it. I'm giving this theater 3 Stars for my experience, because it's been a while since I've gone (I think the last Twilight movie on a date with my ex-wife, was the time previous), and was hoping for a decent experience, but wasn't tio thrilled with the lack of staff attention to disruptions, or lack of decent matinee pricing. I know this is a small theater, but it was the only movie showing, and the kids who came in, were quite disruptive. Still, a great movie, which I absolutely recommend seeing.
It's right in downtown so it makes it a good location but the seats are a little uncomfortable
Quality movies in a very special neighborhood. Today I grabbed a Bubble tea next door (and after finishing the tea because outside food is discouraged) I literally walked nextdoor and for $7 (matinee price) watched RBG
Five. Dollar. Tuesdays. Frequent art-house films and blockbusters are well balanced. The only cinema in the Portland area that doesn't have magic in the title. Cozy and unique.
Love the new set up!
Quaint little movie theater. My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time seeing Deadpool 2 on our visit to Portland, and we'll definitely return to this theater next time we're in town. Definitely worth visiting.
Nice movies. Kind of dirty. Hard parking. Expensive
Don't expect a state of the art theater experience here but it's definitely good enough. If you want to catch a movie before or after a great downtown meal and don't want to deal with driving/parking, this is the place. It's located in the heart of the city with easy walking from pretty much anywhere in the city.
Best movie theater in southern maine, ain't no doubt
Great place to see a movie at a fair price
Don't remember ever going here. But take this free 5 star review.
Always too cold. Otherwise love staff, cleanliness and handicapped resttoom accessibility
$5 tickets on Tuesday! That's crazy
Best movie selection of any multiplex theater screens at any given time in a fifty-mile radius. In Portland's Old Port district located conveniently near fabulous restaurants and taverns worth a visit before or after the show.
I really like this movie theatre. Recent movies and more reasonable prices than most theatre's on admission and snacks. Was newly remodeled at the time.
Good Films
Always a good visit!
Ever since I moved back to Maine after three months in Maryland during my senior year in high school in South Portland, I have started going to this theater. There were extremely reasonable prices, which I wished those prices would be again to help improve the national economy and avoid the needless deficit. I now frequent this theater for 20 years, and it was usually a pleasant experience. Whenever I go to the movies, I always make sure I have enough money for concessions (i.e. popcorn, soda, and nachos), and lunch or dinner at a restaurant. Normally I'd give it five stars since I enjoy this theater (and probably still do), but as far as the recent outing, I'd give it at least three. The reason for that is the staff were too slow to clean the theater while we were waiting in line for the next showing. He had the nerve to stall us---especially me to allow the pre-show segment to start before we were even allowed in, and I don't like it. I hate it when the pre-show starts before I actually arrive in that theater where the movie would be playing. I would strongly, positively insist that I and others would arrive at least 15 minutes before the damn pre-show starts, just to get settled in a little more properly. I am considering the last paragraph a grievance complaint. The one like I said the staff were not finished with the cleaning of the theater in a timely fashion, and it was stupid of them to stall the movie patrons by allowing the pre-show to start before we were even allowed to be seated. That raised my blood pressure and I was stressed out since I cannot and obviously refused to handle not arriving to the movie in time (again I personally insist I'd arrive at least 15-20 minutes before the pre-show stats. I was really humiliated and upset, and I was in a bad mood since there were some incompetence with the blatant lack of progress. I did not appreciate the unreasonably slow progress of the cleaning of the theater since the listings have tight schedules. And I was very angry. But since I have been visiting this theater for a long time, I've decided to give this theater another shot tomorrow. Just as long as the staff really pick up the pace and get the cleaning done a little faster so we can be better settled before the pre-show starts. Don't ask me why. It's my preference, and I am extremely adamant about it. If they really comply to the point, then I will improve the rating up to a five. Consider the three stars a probation.
Awesome selection of films and each cinema isn't too crowded. Can get a little chilly in the winter.
You get what you pay for, of course. Expecting more would be silly. You might want to bring a cushion to sit on; the seating is somewhat uncomfortable. All things considered, I'm glad the Nickelodeon is there in the Old Port.
Very small thaetor. Interesting movies playing.
Nice little theater
..thanks God we have that in Down Town Portland
Nice mix of films.
Old theater but staff is great. They offer $5 movies all day on Tuesdays. They show new releases as well as art movies.
Great movie on a dreary day...
Great prices!
Quiet audience. Dated facility.
Might as well go to the Cineplex in the suburbs. This movie theater shows nothing but mega-blockbusters. I miss The Movies on Exchange....
Good downtown movie place. Comfy chairs.
Great films and staff. Wish the theaters weren't so freezing cold.
is ok... is much better on Tuesdays hahaha low prices
This cinema is right downtown, has great film choices and easy access after a great dining experience in one of Portland's terrific restaurants!
Get the big popcorn. Don't be a baby
A Portland classic. Hasn't changed in thirty years!
Nostalgia gets it 2 star's actual quality of theater 0 stars you could literally pick about any theater in New England and you have a 90% chance of it being a better quality theater....that said the prices are more reasonable than most but so are McDonald's prices and they aint getting a single star from any food critic and this review has nothing to do with affordability , People Talk as if it was a Classic Theater with ornate design on on the balcony of Box seating or something ....it's just a very typical theater but small and not as well maintained as most.
thethadamans ,game sharkers ,evrywichway most love in neckolodeon
Favorite spot to watch a film
Tuesdays are $5 movies! Great to check out, albeit an old theater. No IMAX out special screens
This beats cinemagic by far!
Best place to see a movie fairly priced on everything
Typical movie theater, fully accessible.
Love this theatre. Shape of Water wonderful!
I go here when I'm in town.
In town, walkable, nice mix of blockbusters and art films, fast rotation so there's always something new on.
Handicap accessible and still the most afortable theater around. They always have a good selection of movies and are willing to take a shot on an indi or forien film that larger theaters might shy away from.
It's so great to have a movie theater downtown. A very clean theater, and there's typically a book at the ticket desk with descriptions of each movie; I find that really helpful when I decide to just pop in and see a movie.
Great prices and location
Best theater ever!
This is a really nice little theater that usually plays a selection of more limited release movies. As it is an older theater, it doesn't have all bells and whistles of a suburban multiplex, but being in the heart of downtown Portland puts it near all the great restaurant and bars, which makes for a great night on the town.
Cute nostalgic theater in the middle of the city, park to the temple at garage and then go see movie, you’ll get a parking discount. Tuesday movies all $5, cannot be beat.
$5 movies on Tuesday. Can't go wrong.
Love the Nickolodeon theater. Has a very old timey feel to it. Located right in the heart of downtown Portland. Prices are very reasonable too.
Love going on Tuesdays $5 anytime.
Patriot Cinemas (otherwise known The Nick) is a last surviving gem from the bygone age of Movies. From the red vests and black bowties of the attendants to the homey and clean interior you feel like you're in a theater from your childhood as soon as you walk in the doors. Concessions are priced much more reasonably then popular chain theaters, the screening rooms themselves are always clean, and same with the bathrooms. The Nick has multple sized screening rooms, 1 normal theater size and a couple smaller rooms that make the whole experience much more intimate. (Though i can see some people not liking the smaller room it didn't bother my wife and I at all) last but not least this theater is one of the last to do $5 tuesdays. Any movie. Any time. 5 dollars. As long as it's tuesday. Cant be beat! Stop your search for a movie theater now and go support Patriot Cinemas!
Old fashion cinema with at least one "Art File" every week.
Be warned though, they start the actual movie at the time listed. Which is great once you know it, I wish all theatres did that. But if you like previews and you don't get there early you'll miss them :-(
Love ya boo’s!
A wonderful in-town theater. It's small and has a good habit of playing blockbusters in the summer and Golden Globe/Oscar bait in the fall and winter, while having special event showings and support many local filmmakers by giving their work screen time. As someone who sees most every film they play, I find they have a good rotation. I see a couple new films a week into the six audatoriums. The cinema is simple and small, which is an obvious juxtapose to the larger cinemas located outside of Portland, but it is perfectly serviceable, clean, and best... They have a small and knowledgable staff that are dedicated and add in a unique & significant way to the movie going experience.
Always a great time
EXCELLENT CINEMA PROVIDING GREAT FEATURE FILMS WITH WARMTH AND COMFORT.
The movie was great but the Nickelodeon is a tired facility. The seats are old and uncomfortable. The place is very clean, however, and they validated my parking garage ticket so I was able to park in the garage for three bucks for five hours.
Love this place.
Froze my ass off. With winter gear on.
Its ok , nice staff
I love my local Cinema. Smack in the middle of town, always something good playing.
Nice classic old-school theater. If you want fancy reclining seats and frigid AC, go to the competition. But if you want a cozy local movie experience right downtown, this is for you. I'm here nearly every Tuesday for $5 Tuesdays. Extra points for vegan cookies at the concession stand. (I'm not actually vegan but they're *really* good cookies.) Minus 1 star just because some of the rooms are slightly behind in maintenance (one or two seats need fixing, a few ceiling sections look like they could use work), but nothing to acutely change the movie going experience.
Great little theatre!
Nice, smaller cinema. Well maintained. Good popcorn.
Here in Maine, we often get completely skipped over in the distribution of independent movies. Patriot Cinemas in Portland does a great job of mixing in smaller-release movies with blockbusters, and their ticket prices are reasonable. I'm guessing that people who complain about things like lumbar support in the seats are from elsewhere -- what matters here is getting a chance to see Oscar contenders in a theater setting.
Awesome! Great service, prices and accommodations!
It's easy to just show up and watch a movie. Not popular with kids so you never have to deal with that
We sat through over 25 minutes of advertisements before the previews for our movie even started! Chairs have absolutely zero lumbar support. With all the movie theater options in the area, I can't imagine this place will be around much longer. We won't be back.
The energy there is kind of judgmental what movies are good
Small old school theater. Seemed clean, staff was nice, prices are way lower than big names theaters. I liked it.
why are you in my face i am just sitting down
You know what they say: location, location, location. The Nick ain't the biggest, it ain't the prettiest, and it's seats are pretty sub-par, but I'll be damned it ain't my favorite theater by simple virtue of being right-the-hell-in-town. I can grab a bit at Bubble Maineia, catch a flick at the Nick, and then go for drinks at one of Portland's 1,647 bars. It's friggin' perfect
Just a normal theater, nothing too special. Decent show times.
Clean and quiet. Thanks.
O on Tuesday for $5 movie night! Nice little theater. Neat look and feel to it; like an old 70's brothel, lol. Kinda scared the whole time you're watching your movie that the ceiling tiles are gonna fall on you and crush you. Some are missing with electrical lines dangling down, some are sagging and wet, and some are looking like they just got replaced about a year ago. All of it adds to the character of the place. It's definitely a dive theater.
Good, almost great, movie theater in downtown Portland. One negative is that the staff seems bored and not happy to be there.
Clean, comfortable with convenient parking
Great and cheap but the seating isn't great
I often don't come here. I decided to try this theater out because of the 5$ Tuesday deal. Once I got into the cinema I noticed that the ceiling was in horrible condition. Like I could see the dry wall. Additionally some of the employees seemed to dislike their job. I did not feel safe watching a movie which was the most surprising part. Somebody should fix that!!!
such a cool place. loved the weird after hours film screenings and filling my Starbucks cups with red wine with my buddies and drinking coding the movie.
Cute little theater. Some might say it's a little worn down, others would call it character. I've never had a bad movie going experience here!
Enjoy Tuesdays at Patriots Cinema $5 tickets
The movie was great "Green Book" everything was good though the bathroom across from the refreshments counter definitely needs some paint to say the least.....
The only theater left on this coast that still lets you pick your own god damn seat!
Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman
Good little theater, they have deals on Tuesday. Great value.
In town? Want to see a movie? It is just that easy, great little theater with a great selection of movies always on tap.
A cozy cinema with a friendly staff!
Good theater, fair prices. Friendly staff as well!
Interesting but u need to upgrade ur movie screening
$5 super Tuesday, cant beat it
Small intimate movie theater. Smaller screens than the newer ones, but it makes it up in character and the great location.
Was Great.... the film was nice... the theater is clean and comfy... bathrooms too!!
True classic movie theatre in The Old Port. Been around for ages. Its been renovated over the years & has never looked better. I wish they would show some classic vintage movies from the 70's & 80's once in awhile. Not crap either. Show the blockbusters!
No better place to catch a movie in the he middle of Portland. And they show some interesting stuff.
Ideal place to be during a blizzard!
A small, compact cinema in downtown Portland. Very convenient cinema for locals looking for a place nearby. There are definitely better movie theaters in the greater Portland area but this one is simple, cheap, and convenient. Hard to beat.
Kind of like a dollar movie cinema (interior wise) that shows first run films. Seems like Tuesday is the best day to go because movies are $5 all day. Only choice for new movies downtown
Its employees are friendly and the cinema is clean.
Small downtown cinema with a good selection of films. When we went there was a strange smell though. Not sure if that's the norm though.
Nice neighborhood cinema, clean, with good service.
My favourite local cinema by far. Staff always friendly, and it's right downtown!
Great little movie theatre. My girlfriend and I go almost every tuesday for $5 movie night. Only thing I could complain about is parking. But thats Portland for you. If you dont mind walking, Park at another lot around the block instead of the one next to the theatre for $4 an hour.
Film "VICE" should have been shown in the largest theatre seating, though it was shown in smallest theatre seating, to a packed, sold out crowd during 2 venue showings!! The young movie staff handled situation well under the crowd ed circumstances!
It's nice.
Love this gem of a theater that pays careful attention to the quality of its films and the affordability of seeing them. Reduces Portland's carbon footprint - we can walk to the show!
Excellent place to see a movie. Comfortable seats, standard concessions. The day we went the ticket sellers creative appearance and good attitude set a positive vibe for the outing. Highly recommended.
Sweet little neighborhood theater in the heart of Portland, the theaters are small and intimate but I love that there's a great place to go to a movie within walking distance from anywhere on the Portland peninsula. Lots of great memories from here.
Great selection of movies, friendly staff, easy parking (they'll stamp your ticket for the parking structure next door)
Very charming theater
Really nice, small business owners cinema. Reasonable ticket prices and comfy seats.
If you have ever been to Nickelodeon, you already know exactly what to expect. It is not change, it is still very old-school in it's charm.
Small theatre with decent selection. Very convenient for a quick flick on date night after dinner
Went to see a movie and it was all the good things you expect a theater to be. Food was pricy but it always is. Picture was great, sound was excellent, and the seats were comfy. I love this theater and you can't beat the location.
Not a paricularly modern facility
It's a great little local theater, if small, they show some popular films and some art house/indie type films. I appreciate the contrast. It's walking distance if you live on the peninsula. Lots of good memories, here.
Great place to see a movie small but adequate good popcorn and drinks very available to the bus and close to coffee and sandwich shops.
Dirty theater and extremely rude employees.
$5 movies on Tuesday is Great!
Super aggresive blonde hair glasses wearing guy at the concessions stand. Wanting to kick my friend out of the place for asking if his great hair was real and he could pull it. #fml #smh
Very charming!
Cool old theater.
Very enjoyable.
Comfortable seating, and a tasteful retinue of current films make this movie house the best and most affordable choice in the Portland, ME area to watch the most current movies, without staying home in your Snuggies to watch Netflix.
Good place to watch independent movies.
It's nice and small but I wish the have more options on movies
Convenient with good selection of movies.
Local, easy, 5$ tuesdays and an interesting selection of films.
I saw Solo here. I was disappointed in the movie but the theater was great.
Good popcorn, great movie....
$5 tuedays are the best!
Film was jumpy to start and it got out 15 min late but the attendant got it corrected....eventually.
Great place, great price.
Our sweet downtown cinema with a good selection of movies. I Love this cinema. Also discount coupon books and discounted parking in the attached parking garage.
Great theater, great staff, and great snack options!
Great convenient location
Not amazing theaters, but the tickets are reasonable and the sound and picture were good.
Got a bag check for weapons but found it funny that I wasn't searched. Seems like a partiality.
Small and a little outdated/worn out.
Small theater ..but nice just as is..
A Portland staple, this theater is small, but Tuesdays are 5 dollars and they usually have a good variety, although small, of movies
What a wonderful place. Clean, perfect seating, friendly staff AND friendly customers. It's a great "feel-good" place! Tuesday nights $5 for a movie... can't be beat!
This is the cheapest theatre and the cheapest concessions despite what others say. In comparison the prices are way better than anywhere else in Portland.
