This Movie Theater corresponds to the category of Performing arts theater.
Had a wonderful time there and was very comfortable seating.
Very nice Historical building. The seating wasn’t so great in the Mezzanine section. I was in attendance in a sold out show, but the way the chairs were set up, myself and many other people had to look over someone’s shoulder, in between couples or had to sit on top of their chair to actually see the stage. For the price I paid for my tickets, I was very disappointed with my seat!
Love this spot! Such a cool environment, a must visit
My favorite time is the summer movie series. Excellent atmosphere and great value. I cannot wait for the holiday series!
Beautiful building! Would love to come back for movies.
Great concert venue! Beautiful & ornate interior.
Great time. So much history. Wonderful seats. View of stage made show so much more enjoyable.
The building is absolutely stunning. It feels like your stepping back in time as soon as you enter the theatre. The cartoons , singalong and organ performance before the show is a rare and fun experience. I could just sit in this theatre for hours admiring how beautiful it is. It is such a great piece of history for this city. They have free parking in a lot across the street designated for the theatre visitors, they have plenty of security and the staff is very friendly!
Beautiful theater!! Such nice staff!!
I only came here to service the alarm, but I would very much like to bring my wife on a date here. This place brings you back to a time when craftsmanship and nostalgia were thriving. Its was like stepping back in time and in a this crazy modern time we live, I could use more of, thanks and I hope you enjoyed your experience as I did at the Alabama Theater since 1912.
Definitely one of Birmingham's "Must See" attractions!
Loved the music from the organ and the story behind it. It's a beautiful place. And, I enjoyed the Christmas movie.
This venue can't be beat for live performances. The acoustics are awesome. The history of the Alabama theatre adds to the charm and the ambience. I love seeing my favorite artists here. Jackson Browne was no exception. He played some of his set, but also you audience requests. Hard to believe he's been doing what he di does so well for so long. Can't wait to see him again.
I went here for a probate, had a great time and the seats were really comfy.
Beautiful place! Went to buy a beer and my license was expired by a day. Wouldn't sell it to me.. So, yeah, great law abiding establishment lol
I like it. Beautiful place. 2 stars because the "handicapped" seating was not. It was literally in the isle... But it was an enjoyable experience other than that. Helpful staff.
Always a pleasure to visit the Alabama. One issue is that by the end of the movie we were so cold we couldn't wait to get outside. The temperature was cool when we arrived but the AC never went off, had to tuck my hands under myself to warm them. Beautiful place, a must see for out of towners but if staying for a movie long sleeves are advised. And yes, we all had long pants and shoes.
My favorite venue in the Ham. I love the rustic values of the theater and the step back in time you take when you walk through the doors. Very helpful staff.
Saw Gone with the Wind. Beautiful theater
I used to go to Alabama Theater every Christmas with my Mama, daughter, sister, best friend, and a bunch of other family members and friends to see It's a Wonderful Life. The only movie my Mama ever wanted to see. She would make fresh pralines that would melt in your mouth and put them in baskets and make sure that there was enough to go around. We would meet and eat somewhere before we would all pile in cars together to ride to Birmingham to the Beautiful Alabama Theater. We always got there in time for the sing-along with the organ. The Alabama Theater is like stepping back in time with the beautiful light fixtures and the pop up organ out of the stage. It is just breathtaking. My Mama died in October 2011 and I went a few times without her, but it's just not the same. Though a group does continue to go. I will never forget the first time I went and stepped foot inside the Alabama Theater, that memory will stay with me forever.
The Alabana is fantastic. From the architecture, the acoustics, the incredible Wurlitzer, it is a great experience no matter what type of event you see there. Highly recommended.
We attended the Cody Jinks concert last night. The building is absolutely beautiful. However, you should be prepared to climb up and down stairs to go to the restrooms. I never saw an elevator in the building (not saying there is not one), so if you have any physical limitations or use a wheel chair then you should take this into consideration. We had to pay $10.00 to park directly across the street. The building got very hot with so many people in it trying to move around. In my opinion, this is not a good place to have a concert where alcohol is served. The seating would be more comfortable if the seats were just a little larger and there was more leg room.
Went to the Rocky Horror Picture Show masquerade ball. It was AWESOME! We are going back next year.
Awesome place. Loved the ambiance of this theater. Great event.
This beautiful, historic theatre was built in 1927 and seems to retain the splendor that was originally intended for its guests at that time. Everything from the entry-way to the bathrooms has antique finishes and fixtures. The seating is comfortable and padded, which is nice, and really most seats have a pretty decent view until you start getting into the upper part of the highest balcony, when it can be a strain to see. The concessions have a reasonable amount of snacks, candies, sodas and water, and even a small selection of alcoholic beverages. Since we've been here for a symphony orchestra concert and a dance recital, I can honestly say it's one of my favorite locations for any type of theatrical entertainment. Looking forward to our next visit!
It is such a beautiful theatre! Chris Tomlin was awesome! Sound was good. Friendly staff.
This is truly a beautiful and historic landmark of Birmingham. It's a great event place, too!
great place,,ole time venue,,saw beatles tribute band,,serve adult beverages,,nice
Great place loved it, my girlfriend and I had a blast there. Will definitely be back
Such a great time we had there, the place very organized & the staff very nice & friendly. Will back there for sure.
Great atmosphere especially the old organ enjoyed the sing along
Very nice theater to see the classics
Great and beautiful venue. Just not ideal for a large dance competition. The dressing areas and backstage are a tight squeeze for 10+ studios with 300+ parents teachers and dancers all trying to move quickly.
Gorgeous movie palace with a stunning Wurlitzer organ!
The restoration is stunning. This special place deserved to be saved.
It is an experience to see the old classic movies back on the big screen. The theater harkens back to a time when the theater was a place that captured American audiences. The organ still played before every show.
Beautiful, Significant, Respectfully cared for. You are in a place of significance. The Theater (Pipe) Organ grabs you. The experience moves the soul.
Great spot for a wedding. Who knew? I was a big fan of the venue for the wedding I saw. The stage was also a fun spot for dancing. I enjoyed the bar set up in the back of the theater and also thought the venue was nicely decorated. The theater organ sounded great! I'd go back for a show when I'm in town next.
Awesome experience. It is a must for any event. Great bar inside. Very beautifully restored.
Beautiful! Great venue.
Watching the 85 south boys was phenomenal.
This theater was beautiful. Amazing detail. The best seats are Mezzanine if the floor close to the stage is not an option. I'm my opinion the Mezzanine was best seat in the building. We were from row. Could see and hear everything without tall people or being crowded. My first time here was to see the Miranda Sings tour.
Great people and Great Toto concert
The Alabama Theater is a beautiful historical location. It host many great events... I have never had a bad experience at the Alabama. The organ is awesome.
Saw Jackson Browne tonight the show was awesome the only thing that would have made it any better is if he could have kept playing till 5 in the morning or till the end of next week etc great show in a great venue always always always get my money's worth when I go to see a show at the Alabama theater
Wonderful place, wonderful experience. There's a small snack bar with limited snacks and popcorn and sodas. The interior is beautiful and worth exploring. A fantastic atmosphere and a great place for kids to visit as well, especially during the Christmas season.
Great play for the kiddos on a field trip. Age appropriate and high energy performance.
Classic and historic venue. This place will transport you to the past if the glory days with the glitz and glamor of the roaring 20’s. You can feel the nostalgia even before you walk into the building. The marquee and signage out front are just amazing. The Owner and leader are passionate about this venue and you can tell it with the details.
Such a symbolic place to visit. Unique atmosphere. Went for a Christmas movie and it was wonderful.
Absolutely beautiful! Grateful to be able to attend events at such an historic building!
Excellent concert by the Piano Guys. Beautiful old theater. It is old so be prepared to walk stairs and not near as nice seats as a new theater but well worth it.
Amazing theater! Plan to go back as much as I can.
Enjoyed the graduation ceremony for my Jeremy Duke from ASFA (Alabama School of Fine Arts)
Went to the Sidewalk Festival, it was wonderful. The theater is magnificent and kept up very nicely. I'd love to go again.
Great hospitality. Clean and we'll kept to be as old as it is. I really enjoyed watching the Muscle Shoals feature. Learning how the music industry started there along with competition. It was quite interesting to learn about all the musicians who had recorded there. The last time I went was in 1977 to watch Billy Joel, I think. Lady's of the night were walking the streets back then which seemed odd to me back then but I found out it was common. It's a whole different atmosphere now. I'll be going back soon to see some movies. If the staff reads this I'd like to thank you all for such a great evening.
Attending the Rocky Horror Picture Show was my first time visiting the Alabama Theater. Wow, what a beautiful building. I have been in five other Vintage Theaters throughout the Midwest, and the Alabama Theater ranks in the top five. Did not hear the organ play, but I have heard legandary accounts from other theater goers marvel upon the playing of the organ.
Awesome theatre. Staff is so nice. Love any event here
One of my favorite places in Birmingham. It's beautiful. I love bringing the kids to watch movies and sing a long with the organ.
This is always such a great venue. It has the old theatre charm and there really isn't a bad seat in the house. We prefer the floor or side mezzanine seating if we get the chance to go to a concert or play. Only negative is bathrooms are either in the basement or all the way up stairs.
Sidewalk Film Fest was great summer retreat in our own beautiful city. Alabama theater always host a spectacular performance. Glad I volunteered to get to see an exceptional show.
The facility was very nice and clean. Only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the seats are very small and squeezed together, I have more room from a seat on an airplane.
This was a beautiful facility and very easy to find your way around.
If you get a chance to see someone or something you even slightly like, you must go. It's a great venue. Vince Gill was outstanding.
Just watched Top Gun as it was intended.
We love all of our visits to the Alabama Theater! It is a beautiful showplace with great old movies and entertainment.
Beautiful old theater lovingly restored. The mighty Wurlitzer organ, Big Bertha, makes wonderful music. The venue hosts many different shows and concerts. The summer movie series is always fun. Catch a show, make a donation.
History is still alive here. Saw The Wizard of Oz on the big screen. The Wurlitzer is always a favorite. Go while you still can!
Beautiful venue for every event I've attended here. A Must see!
Wow. What an incredible venue. Good service, adequate makeshift bar locations helped handle the crowds. Great place.
Beautiful detailed architecture. Historic landmark that I hope is there forever. I danced in this theater as a child and now my young family does.
The Alabama Theater is always beautiful. If you ever have a chance to see a movie play or concert here take it! Its a beautiful historic venue and the acoustics are amazing
Beautiful and spacious preformance venue. Comfy chairs too!
Immerse yourself in the beauty of the 1920's at the Alabama Theatre. The opulence of the decor surrounds you and the shows are intimate in the 2,500 seats. This is a must for locals and visitors alike.
Alabama Theater is the most beautiful theater! I grew up going to the movies there. Saturday matnees, popcorn, and a kiddie newsreel! I am so glad they refurbished it and it's still bringing enjoyable shows. The Muttcracker was fantastic!
Absolutely gorgeous theatre, excellent staff - a perfect place to come enjoy a concert!
Beautiful old venue. I would recommend going a few minutes early if you plan to take advantage of the bar or concessions, and picking up everything you need. The wait during concerts can make you miss large portions of the show.
Wow. The architecture is amazing! The acoustics are great. Fantastic acts.
Went to Bethel concert here. Nice place. Needs for bathrooms.
Really terrific theater for concerts or movies. The concessions are very reasonably priced & I’ve never had a problem finding a parking spot.
Such a beautiful venue to see,we saw Modest Mouse perform here and it was fantastic..this place is gorgeous.
We attended several events at the Al Theatre this year. The best one yet was the Grease Sing Along. Concessions were available at every floor, the seats are comfy and the performance was a blast!
This is a really beautiful building and I highly recommend you see a show here if you have the chance.
I've been here several times for different events. My last visit was a sing-along viewing of Grease -- so much fun!
Great but over priced tickets. Decor and sound is awesome. Get ready for $16 doubles...
Always fun times!
A beautiful place of history in downtown Birmingham. Nice venue for a live event or an old movie.
Family night. We absolutely love the movies played here. Hubby and I always attend date night at the Theater. Beautiful building, great staff, who knows how to mix a drink!! You have to visit while in town!
They like to keep it cold inside!! The organ player is amazing the atmosphere of the theatre is perfect and authentic.
Beautifully restored. A must see Birmingham landmark.
Absolutely beautiful theatre and the staff was awesome.
We had a really fun time at the Grease Sing-along! We've been here numerous times. Tonight we celebrated my 15yo daughter's birthday and enjoyed every minute of it!
This is a beautiful old theater. Love the architecture and setup. If we lived in Birmingham we would find more excuses to go. Theres no immediate parking but theres a small pay to park lot at the end of the block. There's a great coffee shop across the street near by the pay lot.
Best concert I have been to in years. Love Vince Gill. You need to have special events like this one as the Alabama is such a fabulous and historic market of our great State.
Awesome setting, not a bad seat in the house. Truly a hidden gem in Birmingham.
I really enjoy going to see pretty much anything here. Thoroughly enjoyed Die Hard as part of the Christmas series!
This is really cool. Old time movie theater. If you can see a film there I highly recommend this. Its a beautiful restored building.
Went to Sidewalk Fest to see the director's cut of Midsommar. The movie was fantastic and Alabama Theater is gorgeous but the crowd was awful and unbearable, hard to enjoy the movie, I feel bad for anyone who was there to see it for the first time. Should consider getting rid of the ability to drink in the theater as it ruins the viewing experience.
Went to see Chris Tomlin Christmas a night of worship. Love this venue! Absolutely beautiful!!
I have heard about the Alabama Theatre forever and have never been inside. This past Friday I went there for an event and was blown away with the beauty of this venue. Hands down gorgeous. Highly recommend attending events here. I'm now wanting to visit for one of their movie showings just to enjoy the atmosphere of this Birmingham Landmark.
Saw Vince Gill & enjoyed every minute! He is as good as it gets when it comes to country artists!
Love the organ at the beginning!! Watching "Grease" on that big screen was awesome!! It is so fun to sing along!!
Beautifully maintained. All original. One of last few Wurlitzer organs and it plays beautifully.
Incredible historic venue. Been seeing performances here nearly 30 years. Just saw the Wizard of Oz in Technicolor. The Alabama was built by Paramount in 1927. It's an incredible journey into what "going to the theater" used to be like before Carmike, AMC and $17 popcorn. You won't regret visiting the Alabama Theater. It also has the largest pipe organ in the southeast!
Always a awesome experience. Beautiful venue!
Nice venue!
Always a awesome place to go
Beautiful theater but very poorly built seating wise. I attended the 85 South Comedy show and although I had a good time listening to the jokes, I could not see them. The seats were too close and the rows are stacked directly behind each other. Most people in the balcony with me had to look over someone head or completely stand in their seat just to see.
Wonderful venue! Gorgeous historic location and it has been lovingly restored. Everyone in Birmingham should experience a concert here.
Beautiful place. Bertha sounds absolutely magical and is so fascinating! (and that's coming from someone who is not a huge organ fan at all!) The man who plays her reminds me of someone from a classic movie. So sweet and knowledgeable.
This is such a beautiful theatre. There’s not a bad seat in the place. So much history too. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful.
This is definitely one of my favorite things to do in Birmingham, after living here for six years. It's a beautiful palace theater . If you go for one of their movie series, go a half hour early or more, just enjoy walking around and looking at the building, the staircases, the mirrors in the lobby, and even the restrooms. The sound could be better throughout the theater for sure, but this is a traditional hundred year old building. If you want the best sound, try to get there a little earlier and sit closer to the front on the lower level. It almost doesn't matter, because the place is just beautiful. If you are a music nerd like me, be sure to set closer to where the Wurlitzer organ rises up out of the stage floor for the pre-movie sing-along, easily best feature of the night. They have a whole series of films which they show at Christmas, and we usually make it to two or three of them. Nothing like a night at the Alabama theatre.
Needs a face lift
Always fun! Their movie series are always great selections. The nostalgia there is second to none. Such a cool venue with incredible history and great entertainment. A proud part of Birmingham!
I visited this theatre for the first time for a podcast show and found it charming. It was very decorated and pretty small compared to the theatres I’ve been to. It was in need of some detail maintenance for sure. Chipped pint here and there that was pretty noticeable. There was something wrong with my boyfriend’s chair and he had to switch to a new ome. The concessions were well priced for sure. We got a popcorn, candy, water and beer for only $14!it was hard to find parking at first because we were from out of town but we figured it out in enough time to see the show on time. Overall, a decent theatre.
Absolutely beautiful. Stunning decor and very, very ornate. I would absolutely recommend a visit here!
Always an amazing event, we go every year to watch White Christmas and thoroughly enjoy it, and notice colors and sounds we didn't know were in the movie.
85south comedy show it was a clean place..
The Alabama Theatre is on my top ten things to do in Alabama. The architecture is breathtaking and everyone should experience a movie here at least once in their life.
Absolutely gorgeous place!! Thanks for letting us have or Shipt summit there
Awesome & a very friendly atmosphere!
Very classical looking. Decent seats.
Beautiful venue, prices are so affordable $9 movie, soda large popcorn $6. Nice alternative to the summer heat.
Great place to see a concert. Good acoustics. Fabulous decor!
Wonderful theater had a conference there..awesomeness
Gorgeous venue, historical landmark & the acoustics are amazing!
Nice building keeper clean.
Went to see "The Muttcracker" and it was such a great experience. The ballet was fun and the Alabama Theater was decorated beautifully for the holidays.
It was nice the DD4L All 3 house
It just feels amazing to be there. So much history, so many great performances, and the structure itself is just breathtaking.
Beautiful theater! Birmingham's most well known theater with the Lyric across the street too! You want to sit in the first mezzanine on one of the side wings, the view is incredible! They play a summer movie series and a series at Christmas time. I love going to see White Christmas! Also, make sure you visit the restroom lobby, it's haunted!
Wonderful organ and atmosphere to see movies
Loved it the character of the place is phenomenal , the lobby could use a remodel because it's small .
Absolutely amazing and beautiful theater. The sound was great while seeing Jackson Browne. The seating is perfect. To sit in such an historical place and see one of my all time favorite singers was a a great birthday gift. The parking was literally around the corner for just $8 (the Mcwaine Center).
My wife and I really enjoy coming to the Alabama. I'm so glad it was saved and is still being restored to its former glory. The Christmas movie series is always fun. Concerts sound great inside the theater. The wurlitzer is amazing.
An excellent experience of old fashioned theater, best organ in town, and amazing atmosphere. Perfect place to take your family and you'll rarely be at lost to find a good event here. Also, fairly reasonably priced concessions. Highly recommend!
Great concert, and the Alabama Theater is a wonderful venue. I was a little confused that there were no concessions available, though. Definitely could have used some bottled water after scream singing for an hour, ha ha!
Saw A Christmas Story. Very pretty and ornate atmosphere but felt like I was back in the womb! It was so crowded and the seating is too close quartered for me.
Loved seeing the Piano Guys here. It is a great venue. Not a bad seat in the house!
Great Venue. Christmas movies are great hear and they sell out buy tickets early.
Awesome, historical piece of Alabama! Love going to the movie series they have in the summer and around Christmas. The mighty Wurlitzer organ is a nice touch of uniqueness as well. Would definitely recommend anything here.
I went there for the Applause Competiton. This was my second time being there, it is always clean and nice. There was some cups and candy wrappers in the walkway, but other than that the place looked nice.
My first time & it was a beautiful venue. We saw Jackson Browne. Ticketmaster won't let me pull my tickets up or I would list my seat #'s. We sat on the bottom in the very back on the lefthand side. It was very convenient as a door was right beside us but we were the end of the row that ended shorter than the regular rows so we were the only ones I saw use that door. We could see & hear everything beautifully. The concessions moved very quickly. The bathrooms (in the basement) were very big & clean. We got there early & bar hopped (walking) beforehand. All of the ushers & employees of the Alabama Theatre were nice & helpful. I would definitely recommend this venue & plan on returning!!
God daughters dance recital
We love the Alabama! It's a part of what makes Birmingham so amazing. Such a fun venue!
Theater is beautiful. Lines for an hour to buy drinks is rediculous. Band concert from the balcony meant audience blocks your view in loud talking, cell phone sharing takes away from the show. Buy lower floor tickets!
My family loves the Alabama Theater! From romance classics on Valentines Day to Christmas favorites in December - seeing a movie there is quite a treat not to mention a live event! You'll always be warmed by the sounds of "Big Bertha" the pipe organ which is worth the price of admission. This is a can't miss opportunity!
Was just here for the Shipt Beyond conference. Beautiful place. Reminded me of the Fox Theatre in Detroit. Stunning architecture and well taken care of.
Great place to see Concerts..like Toto
Truly an historic piece of Birmingham, the decor alone is enough of a reason to see a movie or concert at the Alabama.
Still one of the greatest Showplace of the South
Beautiful theater.
Always have a great time at whatever event I'm there for.
Love the organ and the musician. He is a great host
Had a blast with my man and family!!!
Had a blast at this beautiful place.
A beautiful grand old palace. No one should miss out on attending some kind of event here.
Such a beautiful theater! It's like stepping back in time. And the size is great... every seat has a good view!
