Where to begin with 9Round Gambrills. <3 I’m 30 years old and grew up playing sports, all the way through college. When I graduated, I struggled to find a workout routine I could stick with. Everything was either too boring (big box gyms), too expensive (pay-per-class cycle), too monotonous (bootcamps), or just too terrible (outdoor running—blegh!). Then, a friend introduced me to 9Round! Truth be told, I couldn’t move for about a week after my first workout... something that hadn’t happened to me since college, and it felt fantastic! I was hooked.
And that’s not to say that it wasn’t several weeks before I could jump rope without tripping every 4 seconds, or hit the fast bag more than twice in a row, but once I made the regular commitment, I couldn’t believe how quickly my skills improved and how quickly I could actually feel myself getting stronger. A year and a half later, and I can honestly say I feel stronger and healthier at 30 than I did at 20.
Not to mention, the people—the owners, the trainers, the members—are just the best out there. Jack and Angela have this incredibly ability to read people: If you’re someone who wants to be pushed? They’ll push you! If you’re someone who needs some space during workouts? They’ll back off. If you’re someone who typically enjoys being pushed but is having an off day? They sense it. The trainers navigate this balance just as effectively. And the support the members show each other is something I’ve never seen in another gym; 9Round isn’t just a place for a challenging, always-changing, high-energy workout (although it is that too!), it’s also a place that has been extraordinary for my mental health... the people are just that uplifting and fantastic.
I had spent the better part of my 20’s dreading my workouts, trying to find any excuse in the book to bail. Finally, I’m in a position where I avoid missing a workout at all costs! To be able to improve my physical and mental health doing something so enjoyable, surrounded by the most supportive and fun community of people—you can’t beat it. <3
