So glad I found this place! I’ve known how to dance basic salsa for a while but always wanted to get better. Been taking the salsa on 1 basic step new beginner and beginner which is Thursdays at 6 then 7. The way the class is set up is great and I’ll keep coming here till I become a pro, which might take a few years :)

This studio is the source for all you Latin dance training. Offering sound and effective training in fundamentals to more advanced technique in Afro-Cuban body movement, Salsa on1, Saksa on2 and Bachata. The environment is welcoming, and classes are focused yet fun! The owner is not only an accomplished dancer, but an accomplished musician (percussionist). Dance training will also include understanding of rhythm and timing so that you are fully grounded in moving to Latin music! Try a class and get hooked on dancing! Meet new friends, exercise for your mind and body, and joyful!

Solid, foundational dance instruction. I've been attending the group classes for awhile and have really enjoyed the balance of new material and in depth analysis of rhythm, style and timing. Abdul does a great job of recognizing your struggles and is adept at suggesting strategies to help. As a lead, Abdul shows you how rhythm and timing affect how you guide your partner and why leading on just the right beat makes all the difference. You will learn to really connect with the music and your dance skills will benefit. The group classes are both fun and productive and the other students are great. If your goal is to learn or get better at dancing salsa or other Latin dances, this is the place to go.

This place takes learning Salsa dancing to a whole new level. It covers all types and levels of dancers....if you are serious and committed or just want to learn enough to enjoy a night out on the town. The people you will meet coming to this studio (students) are so accepting and make you feel like you have been friends for years.

Hiland Dance studio offers a comprehensive program of classes to target different aspects of dance. Salsa and bachata partner classes have helped me to connect better with my partner as a follower and produces great leads in my experience! Individual work in classes has sharpened the skills, strength and balance I need to execute fabulous turns. My favorite class “Body Movement and Isolation” has given me a greater awareness of my body and its wonderful abilities as well as the strength and freedom to express myself in dance. The studio is a very friendly environment with great people and great music. If you want a strong foundation in Latin social dance, this is the place to be!

Hiland Dance Studio is a safe place to learn salsa and bachata. In my opinion, Abdul is an expert dancer and keen observer of Latin dance, music and culture. He emphasizes connecting with one's partner and being in tune with one's body. He treats the body as an instrument, which we can fine tune with repeated and diligent practice. He teaches from a place of love for the art form and his students, accepting them as they and gently pushing to expand their vocabularies. Abdul is a cultural treasure and as the lead instructor at HDS, Albuquerque is lucky to have him! I am grateful for his knowledge, expertise, humility, generosity and wisdom.
