I went to the store last Saturday afternoon (May 16th) with a promotional coupon I received from my mother who is a member of their loyalty club. There were two employees on staff, a male and a female. I went searching for the type of shirt that was covered in my promo coupon and ended up in the clearance section. The male employee eventually came over and all he said was "I see you are in our clearance section" and left. Big customer service tip: odds are people looking at clearance items don't have a lot of money. I was embarrassed that he pointed this out.
I eventually wandered to another part of the store when the female employee came up from behind and asked if I needed help and handed me a water. She immediately lost interest when she knew I was here for a free shirt and as she was explaining which shirts were available, the male employee popped in with "only plain shirts, no pockets, no patterns" just to make it clear. Both were snippy with their explanations.
I eventually settled on a shirt but felt compelled to buy something so I grabbed a t-shirt off the clearance rack. The female employee rung me up. She immediately asked for my name. Having gone to the Casual Male store, I knew I was in the system as a customer but not a rewards member. She couldn't find my name and became agitated with me. She asked if I was a rewards member and when I said no, she said "well that was the whole point of this, you just wasted my time". She never asked if I was a rewards member!
She went on to ask if I wanted to join which I said no and she then inquired about how I got the coupon. I explained it was my mother's and she abruptly asked for her phone number. At this point I just wanted to leave before I stormed out and said I didn't know it. Lastly, she rung up my clearance item and said I could get two shirts for a little more money. I politely said no and with a sigh she said "whatever".
This was absolutely the WORST customer service I have EVER had to endure! I called corporate to complain and they said they would forward it to management. I have yet to receive a call. It was implied they only cared about the rewards club members as the question was brought up three times by the woman on the phone who I found pleasant but patronizing. I like Casual Male and have shopped there whenever I can afford nice clothes. However, I will no longer shop at this brand again. Not only did you lose me but my entire family as well including my mother who is a member of your club.
Maybe I just got a bad pair of employees but it has tainted my views on the brand. Sorry. As for the store itself, it is a more elegant version of Casual Male but otherwise nothing has changed in my opinion.
