This Butcher Shop is classified in the category of New American restaurant.
Ok, bad part out of the way: it isn't cheap. The food is amazing. I had the Cuban Sandwich (pictured) which was very tasty. Although a little on the salty side, it was delicious and a good size. It came with a side salad dressed with oil. My colleagues had the cheesesteak and wouldn't shut up about how good it was. We also got the slaw and a side of ribs. Slaw was solid. Ribs came in a vinegary barbecue sauce. Wasn't a huge fan of the vinegar flavor since I prefer dry rubs or sweet. Will definitely go back and try something else.
Food is a bit pricy but it is absolutely delicious. Cheeseburger was cooked perfect and the Chicken and waffles was delicious...
High key best lunch spot in Oakland. They try really hard to super hipster but it I go for the food. It’s that type of spot that should have a bike rack out front and give you a 10% discount for having a beard. But they know their meats and they cook them well. I kept it basic with the burger and opted for the upgrade of $1.5 tomatoes from some locale that I have no idea of. Loved the fact they included the side salad which was literally mixed greens in a light vinegarette but when you let the burger and cheese drip over it, you get double the flavors. This place proves I need to leave the city and hop the bridge more often.
Only reviewing for the meal we enjoyed. I'm too loyal to my butcher. The hot chicken biscuits and gravy was fantastic, cleaned my plate. My better half went with the lamb meatball sub and thoroughly enjoyed it as well. The beef fat fries were to die for. Fried green tomatoes were fresh and refreshing. Not deducting a star for it but there are much better Bloody Marys out there.
The burger had a perfect medium rare patty with caramalized onions, aioli, pickles and a few greens. I particularly don't like a lot of greens in my burger as I think it takes away from the meat and other ingredients. This was all harmonious.
Delicious!!!
Hot pastrami rocksl
The cheese steak was really big and extremely good.
Food is great here. I've had the cheesesteak, the fried chicken sandwich, and the steak at dinner. Pork belley is meh. Although I would rather come here for lunch than dinner. Dinner service can be scattered.
This place is so cute and so delicious! I was surprised to find that it’s a restaurant and a butcher where you can buy meat. We got the fish sauce caramel chicken sandwich, cheesesteak sandwich, and smoked cauliflower and fries. The chicken sandwich was delightfully surprising - loved the mint and bean sprouts on the sandwich and the chicken was juicy. The cheesesteak was my favorite - super tender meat and the cheese fondue was spread perfectly over the sandwich. The fries reminded me of in n out fries but crispier. Can’t wait to try the rest of the menu! Street parking was easy but it was a Sunday.
Great sauces, casual atmosphere
food always good. meat purchases are solid
This is the current place-to-eat in Oakland and probably one of the best (the best?) burger in Oakland? It definitely has the funkiest (read: delicious) chicken sandwich around.
Amazing food! If you appreciate great tasting food that is home made/cured, then you will love it here. I'm so happy they are about amazing food as well as amazing meat. And let's not forget their crisp salad, sides, sausages and charcuterie. I'm absolutely in love!
The meat is as good as you would expect from a speciality butcher, but the vegetarian panzanilla salad was amazing as well.
Fresh chicharones were amazing. Wings were great too.
Always a treat! Fresh amazing ingredients and friendly service.
Great high-end butcher
We take all our out-of-town visitors to the Clove and Hoof because it is an Oakland essential. The sandwiches and butchery are really incredible and delicious!!
Ordered the Cheesesteak and it was delicious! All the flavors- beef, cheese, mushrooms, and hoagie - were just right together. Service was excellent and food was prepared fast. Fries were extra crunchy with a side of this mayo garlic sauce that had awesome flavor. Will definitely be going back!
The oysters Rockefellers & saleds burgers & the different kinds of meats on display was fantastic. Will BE back.
Great selection of sandwiches that compliment the meat selection.
Great service, and the food blew me away!
Charming, bespoke restaurant and butcher shop. Service was excellent, as was the food. Best fries I have ever had; breakfast sausage like no other. Uncanny.
Delicious burger!
Very tasty and great place for game
It's not bad!
The food, the service, and everything about this restaurant was amazing, if you’re near I highly recommend that you try it out
The best meat and meat sandwiches around. Local, organic and delicious. Nice staff to boot.
This is a butcher shop and they know what to do and their job. Go there and enjoy your big and delicious burger. Burger side they gave you salad and also healthy burger.) Toilets were clean. Small tables and high chairs available there. I definitely recommend this place
On a warm, sunny April Sunday night at around 7 PM we two arrived, and every seat was taken, and people were waiting for seats. We ordered at the counter after about a 7 minute wait - no problem. Miraculously a 2 seat table opened up next to the windows right as we finished our order. I had the corned beef sandwich and cole slaw - both were good. He had the Cuban pork sandwich and tallow fried fries with pickle juice aioli - really liked both. I thought the fries were good. The retro updated interior is clean an inviting for casual dining. The staff was pleasant, and reasonably chill considering how busy they were... except for one cranky person. Tables weren't being bused, and people who'd been waiting for seats were sitting down and gathering up the previous diners' plates, etc. The cranky buser admonished three tables, including us with, "next time wait for us to bus the table before you sit down. This isn't how we do it here." My thoughts, but not my words were, 'when it's crowded, and people are waiting for seats, bus the tables faster so people don't have to mill around like vultures waiting for the object of their desire to die.' I recommend it, and I'll go back.
Awesome food! The bacon cheeseburger is great and the cheese steak is the best I've ever had.
Outstanding use of fresh local ingredients.
Went with a friend, counter person rand in my order wrong, i order beef burger med-well, brought it out to me rare, it was like eating raw flesh
We are visiting from out of town, and a local recommended this place. I have celiac, and was excited to see that they have gluten free burger buns. I have tried many gluten free buns, and they are all dry and cardboard-like. This was hands down the BEST gluten free burger I have EVER had. The bun was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The burger was tasty and oh my the cheese!!! I have never been so excited to eat a gluten free burger. Good thing I don’t live by this place or else I would probably come way to much! The staff was also very friendly and knowledgeable. Two thumbs up!
Fun food , nice people!
Every kind of homemade stock. I loved the whole chicken I got here. Haven't tried the prepared food yet, but it looks tasty.
High quality meat, small menu, locally sourced. Great staff and atmosphere!
Funky place, food is good, but can't say the digs are comfortable and there is no table service
My favorite spot in Oakland hands down. Saw the restaurant on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. Went for the chicken sandwich, and have now tried most of the sandwiches, all outstanding! Keep returning for the chicken. We have purchased many different things from the meat counter, and keep going back for the beef short ribs and filet mignon! Delicious. Staff are quick and friendly. It's clear that they work together well.
Food here is rather expensive but after trying it, I know why. Everything is sourced locally and they use the freshest ingredients in their sandwiches. Their fried chicken sandwich is simply amazing. The glaze on the chicken isn't overpowering but adds just enough sweetness to the mix. The sandwich comes topped with some sort of slaw and pomegranate seeds, which was rather surprising as I had never seen that before but I went along with it and boy am I glad I did. Their fries are the bomb; fried in beef tallow and served with some homemade mayonnaise-esque sauce just accentuate the entire experience. The establishment itself is very quaint and relaxing. Being that it is also a butcher shop, it can often be pretty crowded with people trying to buy meats and others buying meals.
Great butcher and restaurant
very expensive and all sandwiches are super salty
This place is the best, unequivocally, for everyone, all the time.
Great place to eat a large lunch or dinner; all the dishes come with a side salad. The Philly cheese steak was really good along with the chicarones with beans and pork. It’s a bit pricey,$30 for the sandwich and the fried pork.
Best burger and great fries
Food is overpriced and overrated
Dear potentially valuable customer, avoid this place by any means possible. However, in theory, you may enjoy the place if you like 1) dirty tables (see photo); 2) burned food (see photo): I still trying to get how it is possible to burn only one half of the bread; 3) eating your cookie from plastic wrap - why do you need a plate (see photo) and 4) watching raw meat while you are eating.
delicious sandwiches!!!
The burger and salad were very good. If you like meat this is the place, but their own twist in sauces. We will return.
When the only negative comments are about price and wait to get in from people who want value without paying for it, then you know it's great if you appreciate quality!
Dynamite meat sandwiches and excellent selection of beverages. A must for big Appetites.
Delicious burger!
Excellent food, all locally and sustainably sourced.
肉屋のやってるカフェ。食べ物美味い。
I've been here twice at opening on Sundays. Food is well worth what you pay for it. First I came as a group of five after a soccer game. Beer and sandwiches. Each person ordered something different and raved about their order. Philly cheesesteak and the cheeseburger looked best. I had the Cuban which was delicious. Had the Philly cheesesteak the 2nd time I visited. Excellent but better bread could have made it perfect. Next time I'm going for that double cheeseburger. I'm definitely a fan.
I love the food, atmosphere, people, menu, everything! Is our most frequented place to eat.
Arrived during lunch rush and the service and sandwiches were awesome! The beef tallow fries are a must!
Unique & delicious sandwich menu including sides & salads...if you can resist the delicious meats! You'll be back. Other reviews mention the prices (~$14 plate/$5 sides) but you get what you pay for...quality ingredients + great recipes = amazing flavor. Good selection of alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages. Plus, it's a butcher shop so buy your fresh chops here, too (including store-made sausages).
Excellent burger. Freshly ground and true flavor
Beside the Price The only thing that I noted is the chance of cross contamination when handling the raw meat. As I have viewed through the window I will see the sales persons touch the raw products bear handed from one to the next with out ever rinsing there bear hands then will touch other items and then go back to the products being interacting with. Service is fine but a sandwich is $14. Like I was told when I asked why not be open til 18:30. We may not want those people.
Enjoyed the food. Space is small and people linger at their tables so seating can be tough. But I was ok with it.i got a sit. Really liked my fried chicken sandwich.
Best burger in the Bay Area.
Delicious food, promptly served, friendly staff. A bit on the pricier side, so not a place you could hit regularly, but the meat is worth it.
Great service, good food, the chicken wings are awesome!
Super friendly and yummy food. I had the lamb grinder, if you like lamb go for it. One person had the Cuban and said it was good. The burgers looked amazing. Lives the side salad that came with my crispy bread.
Really great dishes, a bit expensive. Their philly cheese steak was delicious.
Very interesting concept. Food is great and you can always get something from the butcher to take home.
Best Burger I have ever had, and the fries are to die for! I always throw this place out when people are asking where to eat for dinner. HIGHLY recommend.
The burger and the cheese steak were absolutely delicious. Really good quality food
Quality in every way. Worth it when you want to treat yourself to a delicious sandwich.
Excellent burger, but a little pricey.
A table of 4, we had the breakfast sandwich, 2 burgers, and the cheesesteak. We also had the asparagus and fries. Ordering was a snap, and service overall was great (for counter service). It is very loud inside, really more "market" than "restaurant." The food was terrific. Asparagus was cooked perfectly - which is a feat. Burgers were sloppily delicious. I'm not a fan of pimento cheese but the pickles were stupendous. The buns (all around) were peerless. The cheesesteak looked a little restrained, but my sister applauded the taste of the meat, and said she'd order it again. The breakfast sandwich was fine, auntie was not thrilled but she can no longer eat the big beef items, so she was probably just jealous. The fries are top-shelf. Make sure to order more than you think you'll want, because you won't want to get up to order another round when your burger's half-finished and the line is out the door. Oh yeah -- the line. Go at an odd time, and you'll be fine.
I am afraid of how good this was. Amazing, sandwiches of perfection. No Joke. Also features a meat counter of some of the best regional meats a food lover can find.
Food was fantastic! Ordered the lamb meatball sandwich and it was delicious. It is a bit pricy, but I thought it was worth it. Will visit again, most definitely.
Very good.
Best butcher shop in Oakland Plus their sandwiches are inspired pieces of masterful preparation. The pastrami and pork chop are succulent but not greasy ever. For you veggie lovers, the eggplant Parmesan sandwich is tasty too.
Had the cheese steak, and it was excellent. Cool people.
I was there yesterday, ordered the chicken sandwich “Omg! Delicious” best decision made. I highly recommend coming here. I will be coming back for the burger.
Great food! Best Philly cheesesteak outside of Philly! But charging for iced tea refills! Really?! Who does this! I can understand the soda since it comes in bottles and cans but iced tea is the cheapest thing to make. Seriously?!The food is pricey but well worth it. So charging for iced tea refills seems a little too much!
Just had this place for lunch, people are friendly and hipster for sure, food is not bad but not amazing. I had the Cheese steak sandwich which set me back 15 plus tax, OUCH! Only in the bay area can I pay so much for a sandwich.
Very flavorful meat, excellent service, very considerate of dietary needs!
Nice atmosphere super nice cashier cheese steak just so so, but I'll be back to try the hamburgers they look good (:
Delicious and fresh. Staff is super friendly
Liked the simple straight forward menu. I got the burger and chicken sandwich. Found the onions in the burger deliciously caramelized. I usually don't enjoy onions period but I like what they did by making it almost like a jam. Worth a try for sure. Now the chicken sandwich was a bit dry and given it was a pretty large portion, I found it hard to finish. Still would recommend the burger though.
Overall the food was good but towards the end of the last half of my sandwich, I found a hair stuck to the chicken. I instantly knew it wasn't a females piece of hair since the majority that works there are men. Looked like it fell off one's beard. So that kind of threw everything off for me.
H & C is a meat market with an in house eatery. Here you pay for your order and they'll bring it out to you. You don't have to eat in. There's a to-go options too. Its a bit pricer, but what is not these days. Average wait time is 8-10 minutes.
Delicious burgers & cheese steaks! Friendly staff.
炸雞三明治棒棒。
First time there and I,say down to the Oakland cheesteak and it was the truth I had to get another one to go! Service was good I have no complaints!
THE BEST BURGER IN THE BAY PERIOD!
Delicious and pricey. This is gentrified butcher realness.
Second visit: we didnt have the same experience on our second visit. Sandwiches were very salty, pastrami wasn’t very tasty fried chicken still had a red blood vessel. Not sure what happened between visit 1 and 2. First visit: Food was super good! We ordered the chicken sandwich, cheesesteak sandwich, fries and broccoli fondue cheese. The sandwiches were fantastic! Super tasty and fresh. The fries fried in beef fat was superb. I would pass on the broccoli fondue cheese. I think the broccoli alone would’ve tasted better.
I got a Reuben on gluten free bread and the serving size was HUGE. The pastrami was excellent quality, the kraut was super fresh and honestly these fries. The fries were perfectly cooked. Like the crispiest best little bites I've had in forever. I kept eating them long after I was full. I will definitely come back!
Even though the menu changes every couple of days, the sandwiches are the best in the East Bay. The cuts of meats and the delicate green salad w/ each meal is fantastic. The staff is very knowledgeable and very friendly . . . kind of pricey, but well worth it.
one of my favorite places to eat. beautiful inside, lots of windows, very pleasant, kind of yuppie-heavy... great meat in their butcher counter, including pork belly, pancetta, nice cuts of beef, pork, lamb... i recommend the burger. good old burger. today, i ordered a 'special' on their menu... one of the few disappointments: a pork chop on a sesame bun, or was it a bagel... way, way too salty, the crusty portion of the hcop was...solid salt? altho the pork was pretty delectable, it was hard to appreciate in the overly salty and unpleasant crust. please taste test your specials better..................
Just a great taste and so fresh, love that all that I ate was from California!
Great meat selection and knowledgeable staff. All beef is dry aged by default. Outstanding sandwiches.
There’s so much good here—locally sourced, meat-heavy dishes that are upscale casual. The price kills me though. It’s $15 for a sandwich (in all fairness a very large sandwich) but a sandwich nonetheless. The service model is lacking. They take your order and bring you your food but everything else, including water, napkins and silverware are on you. It just feels like a lot of cash without a whole lot of return value.
Another trendy place. Prices are a bit high but the food is good and plentiful. Counter service to order, self serve for table setup amd bussing, food brought to your number, buss service to push people along. There is often a line. So it is not a place where one can feel welcome to have a long business lunch with discussion. They want your table. The selection is good. Offer if drinks and sides has gotten more varied (one can now get a normal diet soda). Their main draw is quality meat based sandwiches and on that they do not disappoint. I had the pastrami w/o a bun. Great.
Great food
My burger was not hot but lukewarm. Pricy: paid $26 for a cheeseburger, fries, coke and bottle of seltzer water! Service was good. Won't be going back though.
Rather Tasty
Food tastes amazing! You have to try the rosemary lemonade, it's mind blowing!
The food was good and the service was great. The space is very warm.
I GIVE THIS PLACE 7 stars!!!! I'm from the East coast and saw a CHEESESTEAK SUB on the menu... Literally one of the best I have had.. Coast to coast. It was gourmet. Came with an arugula salad I think. $14 I'm full and happy. Crisp cafe atmosphere, candlelit in the evening. Service was lighting fast. Less than 5 mins. Manager and server were charming and happy and informative about the menu. They gave me a carafe of water so I didn't have to lift a finger.
I love the chicken sandwich, is just amazing. this is one of my favorite places. also the service is great.
The chicken sandwich is amazing! I drive from Marin just to enjoy its sublime taste. Fries are good and the rest of the sandwiches on the menu are high-quality versions of fan favorites. Not cheap, but I'll happily pay for this quality every day of the week. And the butcher shop is outstanding.
I meant to visit this place ever since it was recommended by " PBS, Check please". Indeed, it's "pastrami" was really quality meat delicious sandwich. I can guarantee to your satisfaction to any meat lover to this location.
Great burgers and sandwiches. Some may say a little pricey, but well worth it considering all of their meat is sourced from local farms and provide local produce. Overall, great place
The cheesesteak is amazing! As is their selection of meat, sausage, bone broth, and on and on. So good. And the staff is friendly, patient and knowledgeable!
The pork shoulder sandwich was excellent
Above average. Pricey
Need I say more then these five stars, this burger is so very good and I know my burgers but this one, the flavor is outstanding the beef OMG is what I want to taste when I taste a burger, real beef!! thank you, my little inner child thanks you, oh my gosh thank you!
Sub par. My pulled pork was ALL mustard, couldn't even taste the pork. My friend's hamburger was way overcooked. He ordered it medium rare and it came well done. They're supposed to be a butcher shop... asked for one of their sausages on the side and they couldn't even do it
This is one of the best places I've been to all year
One of the best cheese steaks I’ve eaten in the Bay Area. It’s a little pricey, but you pay for the quality. All the food is delicious, but that cheese steak keeps me coming back for more. Deliciousness!!!!!
Excellent charcuterie, sandwiches, etc.
Cheesesteak, fries and Mexican coke. Delicious!
Great sandwiches!
