Although I was dismayed to learn this architect designed to the maximum allowable by code (to be fair is a separate relationship with what their client, the developer, wants), which in my case negatively impacted my home and my neighbors, they were responsive to my request to be a part of a larger discussion with the developer about possible mitigation strategies. We were not able to agree on a viable solution, due to lots of reasons, but at least they were willing to discuss things.
